My workday isn't over and I'm not feeling like I need another coffee, so I asked Yelp for breweries in the neighborhood and landed here. Yes, it's possible to sit here with a laptop and work. Maybe not as quiet as a library or as normal as a coffeeshop but it's like a coffeeshop. Just with beer! The hostess brought me to a table near a power outlet which was helpful and my waitress was friendly and understanding that I'm not eating. Just a beer and maybe a second. River City is comfortable and a great spot. I did seem some food come out of the kitchen that looked awesome. The parking was free. The pork belly macaroni and cheese was too sweet to the point that it's almost like eating caramel candy. The pickle dip was delicious and it tasted like cream cheese and salsa combined together. I can tell the chips were homemade and it was seasoned well. The chicken pot pie was good too especially the crust. Overall, I would eat there again but I don't recommend getting the pork belly mac unless you really like very sweet food. read more

What does one do in KANSAS of all places? On a business trip I was getting tired of hotel bars and chain restaurants, so I found my way to River City Brewing and was thrilled with this decision. Each beer was unique and looked SO tasty, I was wishing they had flights. Luckily, I was there during a slow period, so the bartender patiently poured me taste after taste until I decided on a dark and roasty porter. I didn't try the food, but the beer alone was so good I'm giving it the full five stars. I loved the ambiance--you could belly up to the bar, sit in the dining room, or enjoy the patio in a western-feeling atmosphere. The company I work for threw a holiday bash here and it's a great choice for your next party experience. The staff were very professional and friendly. The food was really good, too. We had salmon and mashed potatoes with veggies and cheesecake for dessert. They also have great drinks. I really enjoyed my Sangria. Overall, a very nice experience and would totally stop here on a next trip to Wichita. I was back in Wichita to close out my mother's estate. Needless to say I wasn't back in Wichita for the fun & entertainment. That being said, I channeled my inner sailor and found brewery, River City! I found a seat at the bar where tge bartender gave me a few samples to figure out which direction to go with regard to suds. I settled on an IPA and settled in. Afterwards the meal was messy and good, the bartender's old fashion game was on-point. Thanks River City being the high point of my trip back to my hometown. I always stop by a brewery if stopping in a new town. River City brewery was the Wichita stop. We came in for dinner on a Saturday night during the holidays. It was slammed! The wait for a table went quickly, quoted 45 mins got us sat in less than 30. Holiday decorations were obnoxious, which is what they were going for. The service was pissy. Slamming down drinks and barware. It was busy but don't take out on the guest who just sat down. Food was adequate for a brewery in a college town. The waiter helped decided between two meals and it turned out as a good choice. Chicken pot pie was more like soup than a cream sauce, but had decent flavors. They had a lot of holidays cocktails, I should have tried, but it was a brewery so had to have the beer. The holiday IPA was better than all year IPA. I gave three stars for the decorations effort and the variety and good food on the menu. I would like to go back and try outside the holiday time. read more

The pork belly was crispy and had a flavorful (not too sweet and not too spicy) sauce. The carrot slaw had pineapple and jalapeños. It was also served with sliced radishes and jalapeños. The main floor is a winter wonderland fever dream in the best way possible. Santa clearly emptied his entire workshop here, creating themed sections that would make even the Grinch crack a smile. Pro tip: Make reservations unless you enjoy waiting longer than it takes Santa to visit every house on Christmas Eve. We lucked out and got seated in the "Tipsy Penguin" upstairs - which apparently now serves food, despite what every sign, menu, and probably some ancient prophecy says. Our server was running around like an elf on December 23rd, bless her heart. The food? It's the Christmas gift that makes you say "...oh, thanks" while trying to look excited. The mac and cheese variations were basically fraternal twins - one just wearing buffalo sauce and blue cheese. The chicken pot pie had a crust worthy of Mrs. Claus but filling thinner than a budget Christmas bonus. Our cheese curds played hide-and-seek, finally appearing after our meal like a late Christmas card in January (though they did comp them, props for that). Cocktails come pre-batched, so forget about mocktails - it's all-in or nothing, like Christmas with distant relatives. Beer selection was... present. Bottom line: Come for the decorations that'll blow up your Instagram, stay for... well, just the decorations. As I was visiting to Old Town to see that The Anchor Bar And Grill had permanently closed due to not paying their taxes, I've had to stop there and see that The Anchor Bar And Grill in Wichita is permanently closed as it was empty. After that, I went to one of my favorite restaurants in Wichita, The River City Brewery, from there I usually go for their fish and chips which were the best part, however I went with their brisket sandwich which is melt in your mouth perfection, the inside of the restaurant is amazing as you're actually in a cellarer with people inside of it and it will give you a fresh reminder of a beer cellar except that it's a restaurant, I highly recommend going to this place, it will bring you the best in breweries in Wichita. read more

The only complaint would be the holiday cocktail with vodka that had rosemary in just tasted like a vodka cran but it was still good. Perfect spot in downtown ICT if you have patio weather. Bonus points for being dog-friendly! If the weather isn't patio-ready, then the dining space is plentiful and airy. It's a brewery, so if you do the drink, then try a locally brewed beer. I go for the malt over the hop, so I was torn between the Rock Island Red (homage to the rail line that bisects downtown Wichita) or the Old Town Brown, and the brown ale won. Fabulous pint, nutty with caramel notes and a smooth malt. Such a winner! The Mrs. opted for a lighter variety with the Dim Wit, a Belgian wheat ale with a touch of orange on the back end, perfect for a pleasant evening. We couldn't just do beer, so besides opting for a couple of salads, we shared a Kansan pizza, hand-made and easily big enough to share between two. Amazing crust, done just enough to hold the toppings, and we left no trace of that pizza's existence. Super glad we followed our server's recommendation and we were completely happy with all of our fare. Brewpubs/brewery restaurants seem to be popping up everywhere, so it can be tough to distinguish a brand. But River City Brewery is delivering an outstanding glass of bier and melding a strong menu with a great space for a top-notch destination. I was with a friend l, neither of us from the area at all and she found this place. I'm glad she did because all of the food was great! Our waitresses (one in training) we're both very helpful and kind. We got the sausage board as an appetizer. She got a craft beer and I got the perzikboom or something like that! They do samples of their drinks so it was nice to make sure you like it before ordering a full size. She got a burger with a pepper jelly and I got the mushroom burger that had smoked bacon on it. Everything was delicious. I could have done a better job at taking photos of everything and remember the names of what we ordered but I was just enjoying my time and living in the moment. I'm surprised by the rating on here! I've been here a few times, and it's always been really enjoyable. The service is always great- we get quick service despite how busy it is. It does get a little slower if you sit outside, but regardless, it wasn't too bad. The food is really great here! The drinks too of course. I LOVE the fries here. I made my way here just in time for one beer. The beer I got was supposed to be reminiscent of Cherry Limeade, it was ok, a lot of tartness but if it wasn't for the lime wedge there wasn't much citrusy sweetness that I was expecting. I didn't get to stick around longer than for a beer. I realized it was a Thursday but as soon as we walked in were were told that they were closing soon, and by soon they meant 8pm. I didn't feel unwelcome, but definitely felt rushed during our visit. I was about halfway through the beer I had just ordered when someone came up to us saying it was last call and if we wanted anything else. I usually drink pretty quickly and looking at the other 3 in my group they had had a few sips at most, barely giving them time to form an opinion on their beers before hurriedly being asked if they wanted another. Can't believe I haven't written a review as many times we've been here. My youngest daughter and I have tried so many seasonal menu items and they all have been amazing. Our other not so adventurous family members have given the pizzas and chicken strips a try and say those are very good. The Jenny sandwich and homemade lemonade are also a hit with the family. Solid brewery and restaurant in Old Town Wichita. I was staying at the Courtyard in Old Town and this place is an easy walk from there. It is a brewery so it is laid back and casual. If you are looking to drink be ready to drink beer. Cocktail menu is 'meh' at best, but with that said the beer is really good. I had a couple of their Pilsners and I was impressed. Very casual menu as well; best options are pizza and burgers. I went with the Manhattan Pizza and I highly recommend. Pizzas are around a medium size. Good to split with one other person, or eat one by yourself if you are hungry. Service was good. A lot of TVs; we were watching the NFL playoffs at the bar. People were into the game, but no one was obnoxious or loud. I recommend as a casual dinner spot if you are staying close by. Good beer and good pizza. read more
