This past weekend we attended their 15th annual El Panteon de Sacramento. This community event has lots of performances, food and textile vendors, in additional to gallery artwork displays. We attended on the last day to view folkloric dances from local Sacramento dance groups. This event is donation driven and promoted community. We had a cucumber beverage and bought some pretty hand made earrings for my daughter. Hopefully they hold another similar event in early spring. The photography artwork is very beautiful. THE SETUP Located on Front Street just off of Broadway and down the road a bit from the Towe Ford Automobile Museum (south of the I-5 / Business 80 interchange), La Raza Galeria Posada in set amdist some nice rural landscape with a great Horse pen on premises. The museum looks a bit like a military hangar from the outside, but certainly is roomy & spacious inside, affording artists the opportunity to have ample wall and alcove space to set-up exhibitions. There is a requested donation box of $5 that goes to the upkeep of the gallery as well as provide funding for artistic endeavors. I fully admit that I have 100% bias in reviewing this show…read more Because I'm involved. I've been involved since a few weeks after the beginning. So take it with a grain of salt. The Vagina Monologues by Eve Ensler has been running at the Geery Theatre for 3 years. In a combination of small-theatre, good show and good performance, this makes for some record-breaking: this production is the longest running production in the nation. How is that for a feather in Sacramento's cap? The show is peformed by 3 women who share "group moments" together and each have 3 monologues. The stage is set with rich red panels and a single chair and stool, one where the actor sits and the other, where she addresses Eve. The show has been running so long that there's a few casts that perform in rotation, but both casts are strong, and they do the material justice. The show runs Friday & Saturday at 8 p.m., Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $14.50 general, $17.50 reserved (you can choose your seats) and special prices of $12.50 for students, seniors, SARTA, SAG members. I hear tell that the production might finally come to an end, so be sure to come see the show before it closes, cause you'll know you'll regret it!

But consider…read morethis as a testament to its quality: It's the longest-running production of the show in the country, and the cast is going to be performing in San Francisco in the near future, which I am told is a first for a Sacramento-based play. The Vagina Monologue, as the name suggests, compromises several monlogues featuring women talking about their "down-theres." (That's how one of the characters in the production, an older woman, refers to her vagina.) The monologues are diverse and entertaining. Some are laugh-out-loud funny (featuring, for example, a series of hilarious faux orgasms right there on stage); some are really poignant and touching. Importantly, this isn't simply a chick-flick -- er, play. While I expect women will be able to relate more to what's being said -- though they'll likely come away with new perspectives as well -- guys certainly will leave with some enlightenment about women and their monkeyboxes (another term used in the play). The play closes soon, unfortunately, but shows take place Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, and surely you have one of those nights free, right? So seriously: Check out the show and have a great time while supporting a local performance.

This museum is directly across the street from UCD's visitor and conference center on one side, and the campus concert hall (wine-named Mondavi Center). High-tail it over to the museum and keep your wallet in your pocket -- it's free. It's 30 minutes or so you won't mind giving up. A fun mix of modern art that is always changing, so i won't date my review here. At the very least, it's a beautiful space with some thought-provoking installations every time I'm in town. I believe there's some kind of rule that all the artists have some connection to UC Davis. Davis hates cars, so the adjoining parking lot is about $10, during the week only. Weekends? Cars galore, no charge. Inspiring!

I don't recall too many food options except premade items, but there were several drink options available. People bring their own chairs well ahead of the concert time and start marking their claim. We got there just after 7 when it started and there were tons of empty chairs and nowhere to squeeze the four of us in. I'd recommend concerts here. It's always been a great place for dancing and enjoying time with friends.

Our friends at our table had nachos that smelled like heaven! My wife wanted to help herself! Lol The service here was polite & classy. We had fun bottom line. Parking didn't seem too bad. Scott's Seafood was adjacent to this amphitheater! My wife was wondering where that restaurant was located. Now we know that there are many restaurants & shops close by. We were told to bring lots of tissue for the park like restroom facility but it looked like they had already presupplied it. I see my first for year 2017 has twenty nine votes. The Wednesday, I ask at the check in desk. They look up for me. The parade at ten am and the ceremony is one pm. Okay so the Thursday, get to the area nine fifty one am, not bad. The event, they are setting up. The parade actually started ten forty am. There is a place, think is their own business. They have a barbecue grill. They are selling hot link sandwiches, chili cheese dogs, hamburgers. After the parade, there is maybe fifty minutes before the ceremony begins. I get the hot link sandwich, comes with choice pork and beans or fries. I pick the pork and beans. There is presenting of the colors. I talk with a Navy person, ask if he knows my Navy man. He says he is age eighty two, I say, "Ah, he is age forty four. No wonder you do not know him. You are if I doing the math right, thirty eight years above us," he says yes. Another her shirt says Marine Grandmother. There are four of us, we all agreed those athletes that able to stand yet intentionally lock arms and not stand. We all agreed the lady I met one year at the airport, she was in a wheelchair, obvious she cannot to stand, yet showed more respect by taking off her hat, bowed her head, hand on her heart. Okay, presenting of the colors. Then yes, the National Anthem. The lady that sang it, I heard she is new USA citizen, three months earlier, from Jamaica. The different speeches. One speaker is Mayor of Sacra, I apologize if I spell the name wrong. It is no longer Kevin Johnson, tall, African American. The Mayor of Sacra now seems be a person, sounded as Dale Steinberg, short brown hair. Many speeches. Then the wreath. On this wreath they placed thirteen ornaments for the thirteen American Military that were killed in Kabul, Afghanistan. My sympathies to those families. Yes Armistice Day then year 1954 they changed the name to Veteran Day. A group of school children, Spanish is their native language, yet when they did the different Military songs, they did very good job. When they sang Anchors Away, yes I stood. Happy 2021 Veteran Day to all. Thank you Sir, for your noble service in USA Military. Thank you Ma'am, for your noble service in USA Military. The campus is gorgeous that it sits on and the Center is absolutely beautiful inside. What I love most about the seating inside is that it's designed well with comfortable seats that aren't crammed together and you can actually enjoy the show. There are vents under each seat to keep you cool, which is also a plus on warmer seasons. The sound quality here is absolute perfection as well and I can't imagine why anyone wouldn't feel the same way as I do about this wonderful venue! What a true gift it is to have near us! Oh, the parking here is great as well and so are the attendants!!!

Because of that, even though I've lived nearby for more than 20 years, I never made it out to a show. I finally made an exception to see the legendary Herbie Hancock at Jackson Hall, the larger venue that seats about 1,800 people. Even from the upper section, the sound was phenomenal. The acoustics are honestly some of the best I've experienced. The one downside to sitting up there is the seating layout: the rows are tight, and unlike other sections, there are no aisles. If someone in the middle needs to step out, the entire row--around 20 people on each side--has to shuffle to make room. Not ideal, especially for long shows without an intermission. Parking is close, but even on a Sunday (when parking is usually free), the lot across from the venue charged $19. Drinks are allowed inside only if they have lids, and there are no cupholders at the seats. Minor things, but they add up. Jackson Hall is a beautiful venue, and it definitely carries a "posh" or "elite" reputation that seems fairly accurate--it feels geared toward a more academic crowd. I probably won't return soon based on the current lineup, but seeing Herbie Hancock there was absolutely worth it.
