the county fair is half of the state fair but perfect size for kids. still have the fun rides, huge barn of animals, and exhibits of sale items. foods gotten more expensive, but so has everything else in life. plan to spend $300 for family of four for entry, wristband for rides, food and drink. was a nice half day out spent.

Our first fair as "guests" rather than "paricipants". :) For 12 years before the pandemic, we had our 4H animals at fair and were there for 5 days 24/7. This is our first year to go just on Saturday for fun and the rodeo. First, the things Iiked: Parking is still $10 (though $5 would be better), the new layout in the barn is much better, great selection of food vendors. Lots of neat rides, more so for the small kids. What I did not like: PRICES. My goodness. I paid $140 just for entrance & rodeo for 5 people. Buying tickets ahead of time for a discount is a joke. The fees per ticket basically eat up any discount. Food & drink prices are much higher, and I don't have small kids for the rides. I expect to pay more at a fair, but these prices make t hard for a family to go to for more than one day. The rodeo this year was not great. The animals were, but the pizazz was definitely missing. The beginning ceremonies were lackluster, the time between riders just dragged on. The rodeo clown was creepy, and his sets were just way too long. People started leaving after the bucking horses because they thought the show was over. Not sure if this is a different circuit than previous years, but this show needs work.

Sacramento county fair............. Eh? It's almost like, what's the point?! I understand that towns like to have a local fair, of course, but you have a STATE Fair that's like months apart. Really, really close together. Let's start with fees $10 parking. $12 for adults We went ON Memorial Day so military wife got in free AND, they tell my mom there's no senior discount. Really? Really? That right there was reason to not go. This doesn't even have the flair and fun of the state fair. No fancy exhibits. Just.... One SMALL vendor shopping place. Nothing of interest. Yes, they had fair food. And rides for the kids. Monorail doesn't even run! Save your money, save your time, and save me an eye roll that I even went for a few hours. Visit the Sacramento STATE Fair, only.

Let's just say I'm looking forward to the State Fair... bigger food selections, rides & more spaciousness. Still a fun event with the weather permitting. Prices are high, but what Fair isn't, so don't come thinking it's an inexpensive event. It's all about the memories you make.. .Enjoyed the fair activities inside and the outdoor activities such as the Pig races & dog pool jumping. Entertaining but not really worth the price of admission for a large family. Suggest this as a date night!!

This 2019 County Fair was whack as hell! They really didnt have much this year it seemed half the size of the fair last year. The only koo thing about this years county fair was the Rodeo bull ridding, just like any fair its always expensive, i paid 10 dollars for parking, the wife and i were hungry so we had paid 26 bucks for one bacon wrapped hotdog and a hot link with some chili cheese fries. We were waiting for our fries and were asked if we wanted tots instead because the fryers had broke down and they weren't able to make more chili fries. I passed on the tots and just wanted my money back. Honestly i was just disappointed that the fair was so small this year. The rodeo was pretty koo i had never seen bull ridding in person and it wad pretty awesome, other than the rodeo was the highlight of the whole fair. I dont think i'll come back next year i'll just wait for the state fair instead.

Honestly it did not occur to me that we had any local fair besides the giant State one. This wasn't half bad, and I can see the appeal. By far less crowds. Cheaper entrance fee ($5). Same batch of carnival rides for the kiddos. Large selection of animals in the livestock area. Goats, sheep, pigs, cows, rabbits and birds. It's definitely a tiny version of the State Fair tho. $10 parking, but a lot less parking lot trekking since it's such a smaller area of Cal Expo. No giant exhibit rooms, one mediocre shopping building and a lot less food. Bonus - virtually no lines anywhere. This seems like a much more family friendly mini fair. If it weren't for my niece showing her goat for FFA I personally wouldn't drag myself there for the cost. I am told there are Groupon deals though.

For Californians, what better way to celebrate Memorial Day than at the fair in our state's capital? Every year for Memorial Day weekend, the Sacramento County Fair takes over the parking lot at Raging Waters for some good ol' country fun. DETAILS: ------------------------ Parking: $10, entrance at Challenge Way and Exposition Blvd Admission: Free for children 12 and under, $5 for everyone else THINGS TO SEE: ------------------------ * Demolition derby, the other favorite American pastime * Hypnotist show (free) * Variety shows like knife and torch juggling (free) * Live country music, cuz that's what we listen to 'round here (free) * Art and horticulture exhibits made by students from local schools (free) THINGS TO DO: ------------------------ * Mechanical bull riding * Lots of carnival rides and games * Livestock auction * Tons of shopping and food from local vendors * Zip line, rock climbing, water balls * Test driving Dodge trucks and Hummers The carnival rides are a bit pricey. $5 for a Ferris Wheel ride?? I remember back when I could ride one of those for two bucks. I'm sure showing my age... But fun is fun. And this fair has no shortage of it. So if you're within driving distance of Sac, get your cowboy hat on and head down to the fair before it's gone for another year!

It's like the State Fair's sad step sibling... I didn't think I had any expectations, but I guess I did. For starters, parking is still $10 to park here, even though it isn't even half the size of the state fair. You have to enter at the entrance near the race track (but not by the miniature golfing spot, you've gone too far over there). It's only $5 to enter and and kids under 12 are free. What a steal, that seems so cheap these days, then you get inside and you realize why. Don't get me wrong, it's worth it for a couple hours of good ol cheap fun and people watching. Kinda like its cool older brother the State Fair, after you walk in to the right is all the food booths and some random little stalls selling randomness. Toward the left is the kid friendly ride area. Toward the back, just like at the State Fair, is all the animal exhibits. One of the regular tent buildings is open and cool inside, filled with random vendors selling even more random stuff. We let L ride a few rides and single tickets were $1.25 each, but if you pay with CC you had to spend over $10. They had unlimited wrist bands and ticket packages. Most rides were an average of 4 tickets. She enjoyed two rides and that seemed to adequately satisfy her for our day at the County Fair. They had a smaller version of a main stage, where you could sit under a shaded tarp on folding chairs, while also enjoying some entertainment -- which was really good actually, while your awesome BF waits in the long snow cone line for you and the troop! The snow cone/slush/shaved ice vendor is awesome! Wall got their shaved ice and we weren't just happy because it was almost 100 degrees. The flavor of their syrups and the texture of their shaved ice was good. Not Hawaii good, but really good for Sacramento! For a kids size it was $4 and for a small it was $5, both of which were perfect for sharing. Also, like most of these vendors, they charge $0.50 for using your CC. It seemed more so at this Fair, versus the State Fair, the 4H groups/kids are competing more with their animals. I could be completely wrong on this front, but it seemed that way when we walked through some of the hundreds of stalls of animals. They also have a petting zoo for $3 to enter and $1 for a cone filled with food to feed the animals. For any PETA loving people, sorry to report that they had to different set-ups to have pigs race each other and then ducks or some other animal/bird, I cannot remember at the moment. No race was happening when we were there, but we saw the area. If you plan it correctly, this could be a great time. Just don't go when it's sweltering hot, which is an obvious suggestion. Now I know why we don't go to the County Fair often...

I finally had a chance to visit the Sacramento County Fair. Living in Sacramento means we have access to the California State Fair, making the county fair much less of an event. The county fair is located at the California Exposition grounds just like its much larger cousin. Parking is expensive and can be limited. The fair typically runs over Memorial Day Weekend for just a limited engagement. Most of the fair is on about half of the normal state fair area. On a positive note, the county fair is much cheaper and has a lot of the same food and shopping options. The weather can also be better. Mostly, the fair is constantly compared to the state fair. Attending a lesser event in the same location of the full state fair somehow makes it even worse. The exhibits are far smaller with a limited midway and ride selection. They do a decent job with limited resources though. I recommend just waiting for the full state fair instead of the Sacramento County Fair. It is a decent entertainment and option for the true farm competitions, but it just seems to be a tease for the full California State Fair later in the year.

Pretty small county fair, parking is $10. I think it would be better if it's little cheaper for parking since the county fair have few rides, shows & foods. It would be nice if they add more exhibitions so it is worth it to go and enjoy more than just short hours except the main shows.

Came here today spontaneously because my friend and I were driving by cal expo and saw signs! I came in with absolutely no expectations and I was happily surprised! Prices - make sure to bring CASH! a lot of the vendors were CASH ONLY. Parking was $10. Entrance was $6 and free entrance for children under 12. Then various other events like the tractor pull you can purchase tickets separately. Fair food is obviously overpriced so don't be surprised. I paid probably $8 bucks per food item, but the novelty and the experience of it makes it worth it! I didn't ride any rides so I cannot attest to the price of ride tickets. Food - I was really craving some fair food like fried Oreos and fried Twinkies and it did not disappoint! I got fried cheesecake and fried Nutella too! About $7-$8 bucks each. They also had elote on the cob or in a cup! Foot long corn dogs, tri tip sandwiches, cotton candy, ice cream, and even Thai food! There was plenty to choose from! They also had beer and wine for the adults who have small children! Needless to say, my belly was EXTREMELY satisfied. Atmosphere - there was a lot to do like rides, games, and shopping. The only reason im rating a 4/5 is because nothing, besides the food was really appealing to me. The vendors were a little disappointing, the rides looked cool but, again, I wasn't interested, and there seemed to be multiple of the same carnival games. There was entertainment that I did enjoy like dancing, a rock band, and a hypnotist...and JACK SPARERIBS! Overall it was a happy experience! I came for the food and did not leave disappointed !

This is the first time I have made it to the Sacramento County Fair. First of all, I really like the fact that its not in the summertime so like the state fair here at Cal Expo I wasnt getting too much sun and I didnt have to deal with the heat factor. What I liked: Lots of parking available, admission price was cheap, not so crowded, various events onstage, variety of rides for kids, local schools arts and crafts display, variety of food at the fair. Disliked: Price for parking could be a little cheaper, no pre-screen security check (just walk in after giving ticket), wristband for rides was $25, petting zoo was not free, zipline or hamster ball in water was a separate price. The corndog eating contest was classic, nothing better than a local eating contest to bring out the finest people stuffing corndogs in the pie hole. The hypnotist show was Awesome!!! I couldn't stop laughing at the poor people hypnotized hugging unknown strangers and making animal noises...the greatest... My daughter and I had a great time, great weather, and some great fried oreos. Definitely will come back to next years county fair, bring back the hypnotist please!!!

Had the best CA burrito here!

I've never attended the location at the Cal Expo but the location in Auburn was a beautiful park-like venue with lots of greenery outside in the open air. It was a nice place to hold the event. The weather was sunny and in the low 80's. Perfect weekend for ending the summer! Folks were out in their lawn chairs just enjoying the day. There was no shortage of entertainment (live native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander), fun workshops, Aloha merchandise, and delicious Polynesian food!!! There were resource vendor booths, educational exhibits, and an arts and crafts Keiki Korner, and lots more. Restrooms were nearby and the grounds was wheelchair accessible. We attended to watch my boss's little keiki participate on stage with the KŪHAI HĀLAU O KANOHEAOKALIKOLAUA'E PĀ 'ŌLAPA KAHIKO dance group led by Kumu Hula, Nohea Macugay. We also participated (attempted) at the Tahitian Workshop with the VAIPUNA NO TE HERE dance group led by Director, Stephanie Manuel. My daughter belongs in the dance group and was part of the workshop. -whew- what a workout. Also, saw my favorite band, Island Sunset Band, on stage. My favorite because "Unko" is a guitar player (married to Yelper, "Aunty" Ronnie B) This was a much needed coming together and made me miss the islands. There were definitely some houses that went above, while others were more simple, but all delightful to see. Here & there, Christmas trees were in the middle of a court or roundabout. We aren't familiar with the neighborhood & lost track of how we meandered through, so next year we'll try to figure out a good route. It was a first time for all of us and we weren't sure what to expect. We arrived around 7:30pm and it was already pretty busy, but we found some parking on a nearby street. Most of the streets surrounding Java Court were festively decked out and flooded with people - we made our way over to Java Court and I was so surprised to see a massive Christmas tree in the center of the court. There was Santa and The Grinch happily taking photos with families and a couple of fire pits that people were warming up by! They were handing out candy canes to passing cars and I believe they were even selling hot cocoa in front of a few houses! You can drive around the area, but I highly recommend walking it to fully experience the magic that Rockmont Lights has to offer! Make sure you bundle up though! Rockmont Lights definitely gives Dovewood Court and even some streets in the Fab 40's a run for its money! We will be visiting every year now and making it a new tradition!

The Spring Lantern Festival ("Lantern Festival") is a Chinese festival celebrated historically on the fifteenth day of the first month in the lunisolar Chinese calendar. It marks the final day of the traditional Chinese New Year celebrations. Fremont Park was the site for this year's festival and became a hub of activity with Decorated Lanterns, a music concert, a food truck convo, and so much more fun! https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/lantern-street-festival-sacramento?select=ud0mxk_sXgV9GGoSp91EdQ&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w LIGHT TOYS! A festival such as this DOES inspire some marked "branch-offs" when it comes to pleasing the sensibilities of children: many lighted toys make their way into the festivals. Many kids brought their light-sabers contributing to the visual array of lights. There are also some creations that I swear are Harry Potter-inspired, such as the "Lighted-Wands" that come with their own lighted globe on the end of the wand. https://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/lantern-street-festival-sacramento?select=a2aUOqyuUd10pTam9dVN9w&userid=3mNz5nQFTIBQm0oU5mBR0w ANCIENT HISTORY As early as the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC), the Lantern Festival has been imbued with great significance for children, who go out at night, carrying their paper lanterns, and solving riddles that adults have placed on the lanterns. In those ancient times, lanterns were plain, and often only the nobility could afford the making of large ornate lanterns. These days, lanterns feature many different embellishments with intricate designs, including being in the shape of animals or symbols. THE WEST Because of our significant Chinese communities all over the United States, including here in California, the Lantern Festival is a significant Cultural Celebration. It is noted in many other Western countries as well, especially in cities with a large Chinese community: for example, in London, the Magical Lantern Festival (the largest Lantern Festival outside of China) is held annually. THE LOWDOWN A beautiful celebration giving we Sacramentans to enjoy some more great cultural diversity with our neighbors.

I met up with friends and ran into friends I haven't seen in a while so this was a nice meet up. I arrived early as my friend has a table and we checked out the different food offerings and split up because the lines were going to be long so each person took on another order and got in line and bought the food to make the process faster. There was so much food to choose from I was so excited! We got Yakisoba noodles, Udon noodles, teriyaki grilled chicken, rice, and my favorite!! The beef sandwich it was huge! And Spicy tuna sushi rolls. They had desserts of all kinds for sell, but I didn't get any it looked amazing thought. It was a lot of people and long lines everywhere. I had a great time enjoying food with friends and just mingling. I will definitely come back next year it is well worth it and the food is fantastic! They also had a band performing ol'skool music. If you haven't been you have to check it out. You will not be disappointed.

We got there around 11:15 (it started at 11), and there was already a huge line of people waiting to get in. Parking was difficult -- we had to park in another neighborhood pretty far away. There was definitely a wider selection of food options compared to other bazaars -- karaage, teriyaki, curry, udon, sushi, tempura, Gunther's ice cream, mochi, anpan, and manju. The only downsides were that it was already very hot and extremely crowded, with people shoulder-to-shoulder- most of the food was outside. Sushi and udon were sold indoors. They also had taiko and some other performances throughout the day. Worth going at least once, especially if you've never been to a Japanese bazaar!

The festival was Friday and Saturday for 2024 and we attended on the Friday. It's free to enter. We arrived on the earlier side, around 5pm and it wasn't too crowded and lines for food were short. We grabbed drink tickets, which were reasonably priced- $8 for beer, $12 for cocktails and I think $10 for wine (we didn't get any wine though). There was music, a silent disco, local vendors, and on Friday there was a private Grand Tasting event that costs extra and was sold out the day of the event. We ended up stopping for drinks with Midtown Spirits, grabbed some adobo bacon jerky with Baboy Boys, a chicken and rice plate with Sweet Mother 101 and a bucket of lumpia and chicharones from Lumpia Bucket. It seemed like prices were a bit more festival prices than everyday prices, but the food was good! We walked around for a while, visited some of the interactive booths/vendors and headed out after a few hours. As we were leaving the crowds were getting larger and the lines were getting longer. They had music going throughout the event, and it was fun to listen to. Next year we plan to come on Saturday and start early in the day again. We would also consider doing the Grand Tasting in the future.

It only happens for three days in November. This time I felt like our lives were starting to have a semblance of routine and normalcy. We chose a Saturday to attend. Masks of course, were required and we were even asked to show our Covid-19 vaccine cards. I looked forward to seeing several of my favorite artists, but alas, they were not present this year, except for one. I did splurge on a lovely glass blown sea creature design by Shawn Tsai. But many wonderful artists did participate this year, making it an enjoyable day. We still made a point of visiting the regulars, seeing some new ones, and missing the ones that were not there this year.  But at least we had a full and enjoyable day making special purchases and conversing with some of the friendly people. It's nice to have more culture in our area and this show is one that makes you more aware of the beauty that people can create and inspire! The yearly tradition resumes!

Hopefully I will find some great Christmas presents for the family at the same time. After a stop for banana nut pancakes and Belgium beer we finally made our way into the convention center while a band played some smooth jazz in the background. The first thing I noticed was that the venders had their noses stuck to their cell phones, i-pads, and Kendalls. No one seemed to be paying attention to their potential customers. Is this what our world has come to? I wanted to yell at them; "put down your phones, the real world is out here". This baffling behavior continued until I finally came across a tie salesman from Berkeley by the name of Mitchel Rubin. You might think there is not much interesting about ties, but that would be because your eyes have not crossed paths with these whimsical artistic masterpieces. Mitchel not only had regular neckties but had pre tied bow ties and bow ties that you had to tie yourself for the bow tie purest and if that was not enough to get you all excited he had whimsical artistic suspender masterpieces as well. This guy was talented! He even had matching sets. Of course my girl friend had to check out all of the handcrafted jewelry and we both enjoyed the various pottery and hand blown goods. Then my girl friend found a comfortable pair of sandal that she could not pass up and I found a couple of hand thrown coffee mugs with frogs and dragonflies to buy my sister for Christmas. We stopped for a couple of frozen mochas (this has become an annual tradition) before continuing on. It was not long before my girl friend came across a ceramic masterpiece she had to get for a family member and I came across a hand blown glass Christmas ornament that looked kind of like a sparkling avocado (I buy my daughter some kind of handcrafted ornament every year). That is when I realized that I had not bought my annual Todd Borg suspense novel yet so we went in search of the Novelist from Tahoe. After purchasing the latest "Owen McKenna Mystery Thriller" and having Todd Borg personally sign it, we had just about conquered the show when my girl friend decided that we needed to get a present for a very special friend of hers so we spent at least another hour looking for the perfect present that would most clearly express our love for this friend. It was truly another successful year at the Sacramento Arts Festival.

We went a little ahead of this year's December 14 start date, but many homes were already beautifully decorated and fully lit. One of the highlights of the evening was a young boy selling excellent hot chocolate to benefit the SPCA--such a sweet and memorable touch. We arrived around 6:00 pm, which turned out to be perfect timing. It was fairly uncrowded when we started, but as the evening went on, the number of people and cars steadily increased. My recommendation would be to go early, park nearby, and walk the neighborhood. It's the best way to take your time, enjoy the lights, and really soak in the festive atmosphere. Overall, it's a lovely way to celebrate the holiday season.

I'm…read morenot from Sacramento, so my boyfriend and I like to go right when it opens to make our moneys worth and to beat the heat as much as we can. We went to the fair during the last weekend and met up with a couple friends. I did some research beforehand, to see what the best foods were just because I didn't want to waste money and be disappointed on food items. I'm glad I did that because most of the food items I got from the recommendations I saw online, I enjoyed. We got hot dog on a stick (classic), pickle lemonade, chicken kebab, cinnamon roll, lobster fries... now I'm going to say hot dog on a stick was the best. Maybe I'm biased, lol. But, I do have to say, I didn't eat anything that made me say I would love to get it again next year. I knocked down one star because it is expensive. Be prepared to spend lots of money! Admission price is I believe $15 per person? I can't remember. Parking was $15. Each food/drink item ranges from maybe $10-$30. If you want to ride any rides and play any games, that is additional money as well. There are also vendors inside selling stuff. So, just make sure you come prepared to spend a lot but I feel like that is expected when you go to the fair. However, my friends and I made the most of it! So, we had a great time. There are lots of indoor exhibits as well that has AC, so you can take a break from the extreme heat. If you haven't checked out the state fair, I would recommend to check it out at least once. If it isn't for you, then at least you tried!

I was so excited to go on my day off and a HUGE THANK YOU to Aileen & her hubby for inviting me and my plus 1! We arrived separately from Aileen & her hubby. Parking was $15 for this event and we found a spot quickly and not too far away. When we arrived close to 4, there was not a long line to get through getting checked in. Thanks again to Aileen for giving me a heads up about what kind of bag I was allowed to carry, I showed up with a clear backpack and the strip search was a breeze... just kidding, lol, but the bag search only took seconds. As we walked in, our picture was taken and we were handed a ticket to check out our picture on the way out. We headed straight for food. The prices were a little scary... finding the least price corn dog being $7. My friend went with that while I searched for something exciting... long story short, I ended up with a corn dog as well, lol. We ventured into the beer garden and the wine garden. The blackberry slushi really hit the spot. It was a little sweet, you would almost never know there was wine in it. While the sun was beating down on us, heating up that black pavement, we appreciate the shades above, as well as some of the cool zones where giant fans were available to provide some relief. Those small tent areas were always packed when we walked by. Finally, we decided to go inside the buildings and found the air conditioning was the place to be. It was nice checking out the vendors. I bought some tasty beef jerky... a small pack for $10. I tried some pretty good salsa, too. This is where we found the cinnamon rolls. There were cool combinations like the cinnamon bacon bomb, the biscotti cinnamon roll... we decided to try the tres leeches roll. Service was fast and we happen to get a cinnamon roll fresh out of the oven where the cinnamon and sugar were still bubbling. What a tasty treat ($16). Feeling how overwhelming the heat was, we were very hesitant to go outside, but I was really looking forward to checking out the lowriders exhibit... I'm not sure if there are words to describe the beauty of the hard work they've put into perfection. Where can I see more of these? The Lowrider exhibit took my breath away. Next, I was excited to see there was an Egyptian exhibit for King Tutankhamun... King Tut Experience. We got to see replicas of the most iconic treasures, golden shrines, thrones, jewelry, ceremonial beds, his state chariot, and more. It was interesting me was laid to rest with 93 pairs of sandals to take with him into his next life. There was reading material available with each artifact. There was reading for Nefertiti, Anubis, and even Howard Carter; who carefully excavated King Tuts tomb in 1922... I am fascinated by ancient Egypt and the secrets they still hold... this history lesson was beautiful... Tina Marie was the hypnotist on stage a few times throughout the day. She was very entertaining... as well as her special guests who volunteered to be hypnotized. Bravo to all of them!!! Aileen and I met up again halfway during Tina Marie's show and high tailed it over to the Sky River Stage where we would be enjoying some of the best songs of the 70's and 80's by Yaht Rock Revenue. They were soooo goooood!!! They were singing songs I listened to as a kid with my parents.. we were surrounded by some of the best people singing and rocking out.. I had an amazing time with Aileen!!! In the end, I had to chevk out the rides. I didn't get on, but I loved watching other people ride and I laughed as they screamed with joy and fear, lol.. I wish they would've made it easier to find the water stations, but other than that, we had a fantastic time!!
