We had heard bad things about Hobby middle school so we decided to look into private. Disclosure - I am not catholic and honestly, the catholic teaching does nothing for me. It was not a factor in attending. I had heard that most of the teachers at St G had Masters degree so I expected a really great curriculum. I was badly disappointed when I saw the condition of the school supplies (books, etc) and the classrooms. All the desks and chairs are mismatched. Like they are hand me downs from other schools. We paid over $14,000 in tuition for what appears to be a school with less resources than a public school. One of my kids is failing the required Spanish course because they don't do an intro, it is grade level. So if you are in 7th grade and you never took Spanish before well good luck because you are learning it at 7th grade level now. We had to pay for a tutor to help because the after school tutoring they offer at St G is basically supervised homework session. When we asked the teacher about additional assistance she complained that she had too many students (16 students!). My kids will not be attending next year as we got accepted into a charter school. If your kids did not attend from early grades (k-2) they will not know the culture when they arrive and all of the parents and students are very clickish. I would not recommend this school. After 1 year of attendance we are moving on to a different school.

The buildings are beautiful three-story brick buildings, with striking finishing details, and the ceiling of the atrium in the main building has a beautiful mural depicting the heavens opening for Jesus' return. Hear No Evil*See No Evil*Speak No Evil Hood said he planned on being there a long time, but he's apparently gone already, as so many before him. Could've seen that coming from a million miles away. By the way, Cornerstone had my first review taken down, as I now suspect many other critical reviews have been. Cornerstone has had some amazing people, Mr Harrison, Mr Puente, Mrs Puente (God rest her soul), Mr Hudspeth, Mr Sessions, Coach Navarrete, Mrs Ruvalcaba, and others, but the administration changes constantly! The big secret is, untouchable families, who do whatever they want, whenever they want, however they want; many are athletes and staff from the church and school. Shouldn't be that way, but we experienced it over & over. So, we left. Many others have left for the same reasons. A friend living near the school took their kids out because the administration wouldn't deal with the untouchables harassing their child who's on the spectrum. They told us 3 other families -on-their-street- left also. Cornerstone should be training up a righteous generation, but instead they're just coddling untouchables. Sad... Change must come from the top. We can only hope & pray.

However, once in middle school, things drastically changed. If you have a perfect, we'll-behaved child that is organized, this school is perfect. However, the middle school teachers have a sense of entitlement and are not willing to work with parents. They never call parents to discuss anything positive about their child. They are very punitive and expect parents to not question anything. Teachers are supported by not only the principal, but the "so called" priest. We had a teacher refuse to meet with us about my child's misconduct and she was supported be the principal AND the "so called" priest". Wish I could go more into details because there is so much to say. We will finish out my son's 7th & 8th grade years not BECAUSE of the school, teachers, admin, or "so called" priest, but inspite of them.

Every teacher he's had has been absolutely wonderful and communicates very well through the app, sharing activities and photos with us throughout the day. There is one child with a food allergy in the class and the director has been very careful with making sure no food comes into the school with those allergens (I was packing my son lunch for a little while before switching to their food program). They have special events around holidays for parents to come to class parties and participate. We just had a fun Easter "brunch" and egg hunt. It was so much fun to meet the other parents! I come to pick up my son earlier than most parents and have always been impressed by the care they show all the kids when parents aren't normally around. There's always enough teachers for the amount of kids in the class and they are miracle workers for actually getting the toddlers to take a nap at the same time! The kids get lots of outdoor play time on a wonderful playground. Babies go on walks and have a fenced in playground with age-appropriate toys. When the weather is bad, the kids get to play in the gym with fun indoor toys. We love the staff, the price, and the experience our child is getting here! Highly recommend St Matt's day school.

We understand we can't expect the same individualized care from the executive leadership that we could in a smaller congregation, but we look forward to navigating our walk here in the context of the system of delegation that is in place-- Thank God for the blueprint (Exodus 18). Anyway, there will likely be a learning curve. The campus is quite far from us, so we watched their services and podcasts online for a few weeks before deciding to make the drive to visit in person. Church is always better in person. We were welcomed warmly (not overly/fakely so but just enough), and we were given information on small groups which will be key for connection and discipleship. Pastor Ed and his wife Stephanie seem deeply rooted in and passionate about teaching the Word, and their love for each other and the flock appears genuine. Marge from the prayer team was so kind when I went up for prayer and anointing by an elder, and so far this has been a weekly option for those who want to obey the command of James 5:14-15. We're excited to learn more, go through the membership classes, and start serving on one (or several) their MANY weekend/community service teams.

I said ok, well is the any other minister or church representative that can attend the viewing and say a few words (the viewing was a week away). Don't you know that NO ONE was gonna be available, PERIOD So much for caring for their church members. We had another church pastor attend with a couple days notice.
