Robert and his team are simply the best piano movers in the greater Sacramento area. We were highly recommended to River City Piano by a local tuning specialist when we needed to move an early 1900's 5-foot Howard baby grand piano from Auburn to West Sacramento. Robert was highly responsive and his pricing was reasonable. We had some urgency in the timing and Robert was able to accommodate us which was appreciated. The team was extremely professional and gave special consideration to protecting and safely storing not only the piano onto the dolly, but also caring for the delicate tile entryway of the original home location which was fairly expensive and already needing some repair. The move went without a hitch and the team was able to get things set back up quickly and professionally. What's more, Robert kindly identified some aftermarket repairs had been done sometime in the past to replace four of the original piano leg screws with lag bolts which left the legs wobbly and ultimately unsafe. I decided to take on the project to correct this issue myself (being the fearless and handy person that I am). I had an old, beautiful, piano that I was hoping to sell. I contacted a couple of piano stores and all said they were not buying pianos. Robert gave me an explanation, with this economy people are not buying pianos, but also gave me suggestions, such as listing it on FB Marketplace. He did warn me that I'd probably end up having to give it away. he ended his message by letting me know that he was also a piano mover. I contacted some friends to see if they'd like a piano and my old high school friend said she'd like it. I had her schedule the move with River City Piano. AMMMMMAAAAAZZZZZZIIIIINNNNNNNGGGGGGG SERVICES! Our piano job was completed 15 minutes ago and Robert Miller and his team from River City Piano just left. I am so impressed with their work, I just had to sit an write this review. The situation: Competitive high school with a large grand piano with no piano dolly installed. The piano front leg collapsed on itself as it was being transported on the stage deeming the piano completely unusable. With heavy hearts, we prepared for the worst, calling professionals in the Sacramento area to come take a look at it and advise our next steps. A company came out, assessed the damage and delivered great news: the integrity of the piano was not compromised. No major damaged was done other than a collapsed leg. We ordered a piano dolly and replacement leg through the company- not yet knowing about River City Piano. The company we ordered replacement parts from advised us to call River City Piano- "they will install the replacement leg and the dolly." We called River City Piano on a Wednesday, they asked us when we were available for them to come out. We asked "is 24 hours too late of a notice?" They came out exactly 24 hours later, replaced the collapsed leg, installed the new piano dolly, and cleaned up all evidence of their visit as if they never came in the first place. They were extremely professional behind their work, taking care not to cause any further piano damage, not even so much as a scratch. Our piano is now up and operational. Cannot recommend them enough. We are very pleased with them and are wanting to make them our main school contact for all future piano repairs and will not hesitate to recommend them to other music programs in and out of our school district. Today I witness an outstanding job in moving a 1905 Kimball baby grand. Robert and his assistant using only a small piano dolly loaded the piano, removed the legs, and moved it to my neighbor's house, down the street. They had to come down 2 sets of steps outside using a simple ramp. Loaded into their trailer and down the street they went. Again, going up 2 steps into its new home, unwrapped, legs put back on and set in place. The new owner sat down and played a wonderful concerto. Sounded beautifully. If you have a piano to move, down the street or across town, you will not go wrong in calling Robert and having him and his assistant do the job for you. The total time to make the move was less than 1 hour. I would use Robert for any future piano move. read more

I have to say, he has a huge piano inventory. I know the industry, am a professional musician, and he is a man with integrity. As he gets pianos restored, he sells them. And, he gets some in that only need a little work, and he sells them in good shape. He's very honest and will match people to an appropriate instrument. He has a wear house filled with pianos waiting to be lovingly restored. Use what clearly has been his life long obsession to get tons of gems in the raw. He does regulations and makes sure his pianos play cleanly. Others need a lot of work. Generally, he only sells ones ready to out the door. Frankly, from what I see, this is a good time to buy pianos. I suspect he'll take reasonable offers on a lot of instruments. And, his rental pianos are fine instruments for students. read more

I needed a 60 year old Baby Grand moved from Davis, CA to Reno, NV. I found Robert's company on Yelp and he had very good reviews. Our piano was picked up in Davis, expertly loaded and transported to Reno. It arrived in the same condition it left. Today, the owner, Robert moved our upright piano out of my grandmas house (30 miles north of Sac) to our home in Santa Cruz. It was neither the hardest or the easiest job. We were grateful for his expertise and attention to detail. His quote was fair and he didn't charge a penny more in spite of traffic. I called Rivercity Piano Moving yesterday (9/8/2017) around 9:30 am to get a quote for moving a piano. Robert answered the phone and I described to him the pick up and drop of locations. He clearly understood the city the piano is getting picked up and the city is getting dropped off. He quoted me $275. After calling a number of other movers I selected River City Piano. I called back early afternoon to make an appointment. At that point Robert said that he made a mistake on his quote and did not include mileage from Sacramento to the pick up location (35 miles east of Sacramento) and therefore the estimate now is $415! He blamed his "mistake" that it was too early when I called him at 9:30 am! He refused to honor his original estimate at which point I said I will choose someone else. Ironically, when I called the next company they tried to pull the same excuse increasing their original estimate of $325 to over $500! I was prepared the second time and after a long discussion the other company honored their original estimate. Buyer be aware it appears that bait and switch is standard practice for some of these companies! read more

I found River City Piano online while looking for information about moving and servicing an old piano. I gave him a call to request information about piano moving. He actually was able to move the piano for us the same day I called him. We needed it moved from the Bay Area to the Sacramento area. He made the whole process very easy. When he delivered the piano to our house he spent time looking it over and showing us how the different pieces come off so we could see the actual parts of the piano. He looked over everything and told us what would need fixing. He also explained what would be involved in getting the piano tuned up, and how to clean the inside parts. He was not rushed at all, even though he had just spent the entire day moving pianos and it was already past dinner time.
