Marty and his team are great. You can tell the core crew has been working together for years. We contacted multiple fence companies for an iron fence for our property. Marty was the most responsive and, in the end, slightly better in price, as well. That is a win win situation. He showed up four times during the process (once to bid, once to confirm the layout, once to start the post setting day, and once midway through the panel hanging day) which was very helpful. Competing companies sometimes didn't even visit the site before submitting a bid. The process was much nicer since Marty was available multiple times. Was it a completely smooth process? Of course not. There was a hiccup or two, like every construction process. That is normal. But what matters: Marty and or his team would figure out a solution and make things right. And they were happy to do so. So it was a SUCCESSFUL process. And that is what matters: Did the job get done on time, and to spec, for the agreed price, at a high level of quality, with any issues that came up being addresses quickly and professionally? Yes, it did. And it was fast. More than 200 linear feet of iron fencing with two gates, almost all on a slope, all welded and finished nicely. Done in 1.5 days with minimal mess and fuss. read more

WARNING: Fraudulent Contractor - Marty Donahue (Sierra Vista Construction / River City Fencing / Gloria Landscape - License #1038484)   I'm sharing my experience to expose the fraudulent and unethical behavior, along with theft by Marty Donahue. In May 2023, I hired him to install a pool on our property. At first, things moved quickly--excavation, shaping, gunite, and he started to work on the waterfall. He requested frequent payments for equipment and materials, which I paid in good faith (unfortunately, I didn't do my due diligence in advance to learn that a contractor asking for payments in advance is against the rules and regulations per the CSLB). After taking over 100k of my money, work suddenly stopped, then the excuses started.   Marty ordered the wrong slide and claimed he needed an additional $10,000 to reorder the original slide that we picked out. We waited, but the slide never arrived. Marty gave us the excuse that he could not continue with the pool because the slide and the waterfall needed to be completed first. He blamed the supplier, and I initially believed him. While waiting on the slide, he offered to fence our 1.5-acre property, saying a cash payment would secure a discount. I paid in full (which, once again, I found out is illegal for him to do). He took the money, and we never saw a single fence post or any material we paid for delivered to our property.   For months, he dodged my questions about set completion dates, making every excuse imaginable--he was sick, too hot or too rainy, equipment broken down, short on manpower, or some other nonsense. Despite repeated promises from Marty that we'd be swimming before the end of the season of 2023, the project stalled completely. It has been nearly two years and yet we still have no pool.   To make matters worse, we lost our homeowners insurance due to the unfenced, unfinished pool. We later discovered he never paid the gunite company, and they placed a lien on our property. We've paid him over $160,000, and he has not completed the job. When I discovered that Marty Donahue Gloria Landscape do not hold a c53 license to build pools; they only have a landscape license, I demanded a full refund for all unfinished work and material that was fully paid for and never delivered. Marty told me he would not give me a refund.   Marty Donahue and his companies engage in deceptive business practices, taking payments without the intention of finishing work (this statement is a fact; you can go on the CSLB page and see there are two of the same complaints as ours). After reading Yelp reviews, I learned we are far from his only victims. If you are considering hiring him, save yourself the headache and frustration, and DON'T. We have filed complaints with the CSLB and are pursuing action.   I have signed contracts, payment receipts, and hundreds of messages proving his fraudulent behavior. He consistently blames others and refuses to take accountability. He often wins jobs by offering the lowest bid--don't fall for it. Learn from our mistakes and stay away. read more

BUYER BEEARE!!! Marty Donahue and his business, Sierra Vista Construction- deserves ZERO stars and a fine from the Contractor's State Licensing Board. We hired him in January 2020 to install an iron fence for us. He required a huge down payment, 50% of the cost, up front, insisting that it was needed to order the fence and get materials for the stone columns. He gave us an original quote of eight weeks for a completion to build us two columns and two iron gates. It is now March 2021 and we have two columns and no gates. The work that was completed was done poorly and we have several cracks in our concrete around where they built the columns. His crew also leaves trash piles with nails exposed and heavy bags of concrete out in the rain for weeks and weeks before removing them only after constantly texting him to request that they come back to clean up their mess. We have checked in with him once a week for over a year but he has never initiated contact with us or given us updates on his own. He has had several excuses for why he hasn't been able to finish the work; pretty much every excuse in the book, and has contradicted himself several times which indicates that his excuses are just lies. He has even promised many times to finish the project for free or refund us for our costs and yet he has more and more excuses about why he cannot bring us a check to refund us. We are now in the process of taking him to small claims court to try to get some of our money back so we can hire someone else to do the job. We are also in the process of filing a complaint with the contractor state licensing board. This is absolutely a sham business and you will be cheated out of your money if you hire him to do your work. Don't be fooled by his smooth talking and his responses to complaints on here by saying that customer satisfaction is the most important thing to him. That is the biggest lie of all! read more

BEWARE!!!! I NEVER write reviews of companies, but I feel like I would be doing our community a huge disservice not to review this company. We hired them to landscape our backyard back in March. We were told that the job would take two weeks to complete. It is now the end of June and it was just finished. I have never heard so many excuses from Wayne Gloria (truck broke down, multiple flat tires, multiple times forgot to hit "send" when I texted you, or equipment is in the shop)... you name it, he had an excuse for why the work was not getting finished. All I asked for was open communication. He was not able to provide this. He did not stick to his word and this company should not be trusted. We hired them to do concrete, a retaining wall, and synthetic turf. The turf was done HORRIBLY. They had seams in the grass about 6" from the fence (it was obvious that they had messed up when cutting it) and laid a new piece that did not even match the same color. Wayne came over and approved the work and told us that it would look better over time. There were also multiple spots where the turf rippled. It wasn't until we pointed out the flaws that he later said they would come out and replace it. We caught him in so many lies (we will be there on Friday... then we wouldn't hear from him for weeks and only because WE reached out). It was an absolute joke. They installed lights in our retaining wall and didn't finish the job. Wayne told us he would order more lights to finish and then kept having excuses about why they hadn't come over to install them yet. Two months later his partner Marty called and said that Wayne never even ordered the lights. Again, a flat out lie by Wayne. Marty said that it would take two to three weeks to get the lights in but he had some that there two inches bigger he could use that he said would look good. His guys came over yesterday to install them... they were 5" bigger and not even the same color! They look awful! His crew also came to finish the turf yesterday and the job they did was even worse than the first time. They were getting ready to leave (had already put all of their tools in the truck) and I had to stop them because the turf was lifting in numerous places, there was spaces between seams and ripples all over the turf. I have no experience in laying turf but I'm sure I could've done a better job. Please do NOT hire this company. They have been horrible to work with and flat out lie constantly. We hired Marty to do our concrete and brick work at our house and concrete work at our daughters house along with a vinyl patio cover in September. Overall about 60k dollars of work. It took 4 months to get work that was promised in 3 weeks. He has more excuses than anyone I have ever met. It is now April and the patio cover has never been installed. We finally told him to cancel it and refund our money. He still has not done this. We have placed our order with another more reliable company and it is being installed this week. What ever you do don't hire him. He's a great salesmen but a lousy contractor. read more

Any positive reviews these guys have MUST be family members or they just got extremely lucky! They quoted a decent price so we hired this company to take down an old fence and replace it with a vinyl one. After missing several appointments, they finally showed up and did some of the work. The work they did do was bad. NONE of the posts are the same distance apart. One pair are 65" apart,, the next pair are 93" apart. Next one 82", next one 74". Etc,,etc. I guess it costs extra to use a tape measure. Looks like a third grader did it. After leaving us with this sub-par fence and without the custom gates we paid for they disappeared. After three months of calling and texting we still had a pile of old fence that hadn't been taken away sitting in the back yard and the fence/gates STILL weren't finished. SO many times we were told we'll be out tomorrow or next week,,, and of course they never showed up,, over and over again. The owner's name is Marty. It was always like pulling teeth with him. Shouldn't have been too difficult for him to give an update, that he could actually meet even once! He would just miss appointments and not call. I needed a fencing company to install a fence in front of my existing fence which faces a busy road. I have horses so I needed a strong barrier to be put in place in front of the old fence. I contacted Marty via Yelp and he responded straightaway. He came out and I told him what I wanted to do. In addition to the ' DMZ ' fence I also wanted him to run no climb fencing up along the side of this one pasture. He sent me a quote, very reasonable, I might add, and we settled on a completion date of 20th April. He had his crew out one day to sink the steel posts, then 4 days later had them back out again to install the fencing. I am really really chuffed. They did a really good job and we now have a much more secure feeling knowing that our horses are secure in the event someone crashes through the old fence, they will come to a halt because of the new one. I am hopeful that later in the year I can have his company come out and put new fencing around the rest of our property. I would recommend him to anyone looking for fencing or gates.
