The views were breathtaking, the service friendly and the accommodations top-notch. Mike and Nancy were very welcoming and made us feel right at home. Each room was spacious, stylishly furnished and very clean. The beds were comfortable and the relaxing ambiance made for a great night's sleep. A complimentary breakfast was anything but ordinary. Just order any breakfast item off the menu, and Nancy cooks it up and serves it hot and fresh. Lunch and dinner were equally delicious. Our first day, we relaxed on the large, wrap-around front porch taking in the beautiful view and several deer and moose sightings. Later, Gary took us on an ATV ride to explore the property. The next day, we drove 10 minutes to the Fork Clark River and did some kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding. Perfect. Perfect. Perfect. The Amber Bear Inn is ideal for those looking to hike, fish, boat, kayak, paddle board, snow shoe, cross-country ski or get away from it all. We own the timeslot that is at the end of June and beginning of July over the Fourth of July. The weather is always 85 to 95° with warm waters and the lake is amazingly always very open. Meaning you can be on the lake July 3 or fourth and maybe see 10 other boats on a busy day. They also have a firework show that lights up the entire leg. It's put on by Sandpoint and it something we look forward to sharing with our family and friends every year. There are also some new people that come every year that you get to meet from all around the US and we have friends that we have seen there year after year and become close with every year for the last 20 years. This is also the fifth deepest lake in the United States with some parts over 1000 feet deep they used to do submarine testing and part of the northern mountains were a glacier tens of thousands of years ago. Same point is one of my favorite towns in the Pacific Northwest with great food, cold beer, and fun places to eat and explore around the city it's a perfect destination for a family to visit for a few days during the summer.

The main drawback at this time of year is the mosquitoes due to the standing water throughout the woods. They provide you with various repellents which helps, but I was still covered in mosquito bites when I left. The only noise besides the songbirds is a train which goes by occasionally. The accommodations are well supplied and well-kept, with a kitchen stocked with everything you need to cook. You can get some veggies from their garden for a dinner salad, including garlic spirals which are an interesting twist on chives. We cooked a simple meal over the open fire, which had a clever grill contraption to cook the food on. Water is pumped from a tank behind the kitchen. There is a clean and not smelly outhouse complete with hand sanitizer and old magazines. The breakfast was hearty - eggs (fresh from the chicken coop), bacon, pancakes, and of course homemade huckleberry jam. Even the apple juice they press and can themselves. The company was pleasant, with groups from two other tents. Since there were three of us, they sent up an extra tent for me next to my parents tent. In short, if you want the experience of camping near a farm, without the hassle of packing and pitching a tent, then this might be the place for you. I would give it 5 stars, except that I'm still scratching the mosquito bites.
