My wife and I were driving down the Pend Orielle Scenic Byway and wanted to stop for lunch. There were a couple of options in Clark Fork but they didn't appeal to us so we kept driving about 20 minutes, crossing into Montana on Hwy 200 and winding off that road a few miles to reach the Amber Bear Inn. We learned of it here on Yelp. It's a 5 room Inn, restaurant, and "casino". There was a party of 5 there about 1:15 on a Wednesday. They were friendly and told us they all enjoyed their meals ranging from breakfast all day to tacos to elk burgers and more. We ordered waffles with bacon and a buffalo burger with fried potatoes. just a staff of two friendly ladies, one cooking and one serving, so it took a little while to get the food. My burger and potatoes were good. She enjoyed the crispy bacon, but said the waffles tasted like Eggo's. So... don't get the waffles, but they have lots of choices. The lemonade is Simply, not fresh, if that's important to you. They have a full bar with beer, wine and liquor. And they sell packaged alcohol too, I think. The surrounding countryside is pretty. The "casino" is a small, dark room with about 15 electronic slots. But a local hit an $90 winner while we were there! It serves the locals and tourists passing thru and folks seem to like it. It was an adventure in a remote area with nice folks doing their best to serve good food in a fun atmosphere.

Such a great place to stay! The owners are very friendly and welcoming, there's tons of hiking nearby, and it's a beautiful area. The rooms are big and comfortable and the food was great. SUPER dog friendly, my pup had a great time. I highly recommend staying here, I'll definitely be back :)

Food was great and the staff was nice. It could be a little more cleanly, but the property is beautiful!

The staff is lively and friendly - no surprise - and service is FAST. My espresso was prepped & handed to me before I even clicked on the "Tip Amount" on the card reader -- if on purpose, brilliant, if not, certainly made it an easy decision to tip generously. The baked goods perched in window at the front counter - between croissants, banana bread, tarts, cheesecakes,... - are beautifully crafted and tempt even the LEAST sweet tooth's of us. They have an EXTENSIVE list of crepes (both savory and sweet options) and sandwiches, so if you come for a grind session, you have plenty of (seemingly tasty) food options to choose from. Prices...$2.75 for a double espresso is a deal, especially at a well-staffed / newly(?) renovated / luxury coffee establishment such as this. They really could raise their price two-fold and I'd still be happy (at least coming from Californian like myself). My espresso was served hot but not burned, with low acid beans which contained an obvious LACK of mycotoxins & mold (at least based on my amateur judgement; I am a good judge, though, as I am extremely sensitive with coffee beans). So with that said, if you are sensitive and need high quality coffee beans, do what I do and make Bernklau your morning coffee spot if you are staying or live in the area. A+ all around. Kudos to the owner/manager and kudos to the staff.
