big variety of boxed wines

River Fine foods is known for its generous and fair priced Po-Boys and cold ones (from PBR to Holly Roller). River Fine Foods Store also stocks a variety of household goods, groceries, dairy, eggs, a good variety of low end and high end beer, wine, liquor and champagnes, chips, cookies and t-shirts and hats. I've been getting my usual dressed hot sausage poboy and beer here since the first day I ever walked in. They offer a variety of your favorite poboys, as well as Hamburgers, Chicken and breakfast. My boy likes the oyster on a bun and the Pirate likes a 16" shrimp or oyster. I requested higher end beers and explained that I most people would have to drive to Rouses to find nicer items. Slowly but surely they started adding higher end stuff and now when a new neighbor moves in, I run over to grab a bottle of Veuve Clicqout Champagne. Fancy. It's my go to now, it should be yours too. Whether you live here OR are visiting this part of New Orleans in Algiers; stop by...grab a cold one...and walk up the levee to watch the boats go by.....

Shrimp Po Boy 8"

Today I decided to try the River Fine Foods Store. I've been hearing for a while that they make a mean Po Boy and it's been on my list for a while, I just never made it over. The snow storm gave me the perfect excuse to go since it's so close to my house. I got the shrimp po boy 8" dressed, which for $9 is a pretty good deal. They were also SUPER generous with the shrimp. A very satisfying picture! They also have 32" Po Boys so if you want a good Yelp photo that would be it! You order the food at the back of the general store and pay for it at the front register. It's meant to be taken to go as there are no tables inside or outside. The Po Boy made it safely to my house and it was about 30 minutes before I finally ate it. Even so it was still really good! The shrimp was still crispy and the bread had a good crunch. This is definitely a great option if you're looking for a Po Boy fix!

Full of shrimp poboy

I called my order in for a poboy. It was ready when I arrived. Great price. It is a convenience store with a deli but I have to get a poboy from there anytime I'm there.

Their poboys are amazing! Definitely give a try. They come in multiples of 8". We got a 32" (whole loaf) it was around $25! So many shrimp!!!

River Fine Foods is an interesting place. It is a typical inner city convenience store packed with merchandise with a small po-boy shop as part of the business. The claim to fame of this place is the ability to get a 32" po-boy or some similar length. I would assume that would feed multiple people, but you never know. Their sandwiches are good, but not spectacular. They get very crowded at lunch time so be prepared to wait, or call ahead.

Great prices & great food. The trout poboy is a personal favorite.

Great little shop that happens to sell po boys. Priced very fairly and they come in huge sizes. Be aware that the shop hours and the food hours don't always coincide, so make sure the food section is operational before going

Old School New Orleans Corner Store! One of the few places you can still get a true "Whole Loaf" Poboy. Hot Sausage is best value and a 16' Shrimp is like $10. The Best!!

My favorite po boys on the Westbank! Flashy, fresh and prices can't be beat. Shrimp or cheeseburger are our favorites!

You gotta come to fresh market on Thursdays for the $5 bistro meals!!! (Beware they do sell out of…read moresome items.) They also have a hot plate meal where you can get a rotisserie chicken, two sides, and 6 rolls - feed 4-6 people. (Perfect amount for 3 people sized family in my opinion.). Depends on the portion sizes your family eats. Either way, great last minute meal ideas after a long day of work. Or for your lunch break! The workers are all really polite here, but the checkout line is not fast so make sure to get a basket or cart to make waiting in line easier. It is always clean in here, and they always have lots of fresh produce. Plus a convenient parking lot.

This has always been my 'go to' specialty market in NOLA…read more The vibe is good, creative offerings and just a very pleasant, upscale place to shop. The staff, especially at checkout, always seem to be friendly and upbeat, which is nice. The pre-prepared foods, snacks, drink choices, bakery and deli are typically better than most, sometimes better than the larger Whole Foods on Magazine St. here. And, they have an amazing floral section at the back entrance. There's a convenient parking lot that wraps around the back and downtown side of the building, but the spaces can be tight, especially with a SUV size vehicle. This time I grabbed some coffee, bread, brownies, and wine. Unfortunately, I found many of the aisles and sections not stocked very well. The bakery section had very little product as did several other places. Just empty bins and shelves. Hmmmm? It is the beginning of Mardi Gras season so plenty of King Cake and specialty vodka. Nonetheless, I do like this store. Fun fact- this used to be the Bultman Funeral Home, in a classic building on the corner of St. Charles and Louisiana Streets. Yes, indeed, a mortuary as well.
