My rating is 4.5, but I'm rounding up. This place has been around for a long time and always has excellent poboys. I recently moved back to New Orleans after 20 years. After eating expensive subpar hot sausage poboys (my favorite) at Copeland's and New Orleans Hamburger & Seafood Company, I remembered this place and placed an order. The poboy was fantastic. Larger, more delicious, and cheaper. I took a half star off because I also got a fried seafood platter. The portions were large, the fish and oysters were great, but the fried shrimp were kind of small (slightly larger than popcorn shrimp) and were overcooked. read more

Clean little market. Has sandwiches and hot breakfast in the back. I got the BLT with eggs. She asked if I wanted pickles on it also I said sure let's try it. Wasn't bad. I've been getting my usual dressed hot sausage poboy and beer here since the first day I ever walked in. They offer a variety of your favorite poboys, as well as Hamburgers, Chicken and breakfast. My boy likes the oyster on a bun and the Pirate likes a 16" shrimp or oyster. I requested higher end beers and explained that I most people would have to drive to Rouses to find nicer items. Slowly but surely they started adding higher end stuff and now when a new neighbor moves in, I run over to grab a bottle of Veuve Clicqout Champagne. Fancy. It's my go to now, it should be yours too. Today I decided to try the River Fine Foods Store. I've been hearing for a while that they make a mean Po Boy and it's been on my list for a while, I just never made it over. The snow storm gave me the perfect excuse to go since it's so close to my house. I got the shrimp po boy 8" dressed, which for $9 is a pretty good deal. They were also SUPER generous with the shrimp. A very satisfying picture! They also have 32" Po Boys so if you want a good Yelp photo that would be it! You order the food at the back of the general store and pay for it at the front register. It's meant to be taken to go as there are no tables inside or outside. The Po Boy made it safely to my house and it was about 30 minutes before I finally ate it. Even so it was still really good! The shrimp was still crispy and the bread had a good crunch. This is definitely a great option if you're looking for a Po Boy fix! read more

my husband requested a 6 inch but rather than pointing out to him they only have 8 inch they "mis-heard" him and fixed a 16 inch instead. The food counter the back really is the shining star of this establishment. Their po-boys are generous in size, flavorful, and full of toppings at a great price. So far we have tried the oyster, hot sausage, fried shrimp, and beef debris po-boys and all have been quite good, although I probably favor the oyster. Every time we have a party, we order a few of the 36" (I think that's the largest size...) and chop them in pieces and rotate them through the oven to keep them warm; so far, they have always been the hit of these parties. The french fries are more steak fries in style (thick, absolutely the opposite of shoestring), and because you don't eat there, they haven't been the best when we get them home. The girls taking the orders are nice, but their English isn't always the best, so sometimes I try to use my Spanish (poorly...) to complete the order. The store itself is your average corner convenience store; some alcohol, beer, random things that you might need for your kitchen that you might have forgotten at the grocery store and just need to pick up quickly. read more

River Fine Foods is an interesting place. It is a typical inner city convenience store packed with merchandise with a small po-boy shop as part of the business. The claim to fame of this place is the ability to get a 32" po-boy or some similar length. I would assume that would feed multiple people, but you never know. Their sandwiches are good, but not spectacular. They get very crowded at lunch time so be prepared to wait, or call ahead. read more

I have gotten a sandwich from here before but after today I won't be back for a while. The guy in the front is super nice by the way but the lady in the kitchen she's tall has a funny attitude she miss heard me so she assumed what I wanted. I explained to her no that's not what I said. She fixed my order and apologized. However My fish had a bad smell to it when I took a few bites it tasted foul. I just discarded it. Great po boys at a very reasonable price. The place itself is a all store that happens to have a kitchen. The sandwiches are huge, always stuffed with shrimp or catfish or whatever you're getting. Those are the two we love. Soft French bread, loaded with full catfish filets or tons of shrimp. Dressed just right. I normally pick up and bring to the family but i took my husband the last time. Quick, friendly service. The food was plentiful and super cheap. We got a 32" hamburger dressed and a shrimp plate. I've lived on Bermuda for years and never knew this place existed. So much for giving up carbs now lol. Can't wait to work through the sandwich menu. We've also had they oyster plate and oyster poboy - they're super generous with the oysters considering the price. One of our party members always gets the porkchop poboy. I found it to be a little tough and overcooked but the flavor was nice. The only thing you absolutely should never order here is the roast beef. It's chopped deli sliced roast beef that's been reheated in some sort of brown salt they called gravy. Yesterday, I witnessed them allowing a woman to buy a 40 ouncer using food stamps. I THINK this is against the law. But that is just sad that they help people F! over the system. He made her pay for the candy with cash (Her entire purchase was 4 candy bars for her kid and 4 suckers and a 40oz for herself). Heard him ask her if she wanted to put the booze on Stamps. Watched her run her Louisiana Purchase card to pay. That's sad and frustrating. read more

Good prices for a neighborhood convenience store. Good selection too, especially local brands like Zatarain's, Blue Plate, CDM, etc. Deli counter has wide variety of to-go items including inexpensive breakfast, fried chicken to order, and very cheap po-boys (including 32-inchers). Quality of many po-boys is just okay, though. Deli has excellent selection (and price) of cheaper cuts of meat and ingredients used to make stocks, soups, beans, gumbos, etc. (very unusual for such a small convenience store). Have never had a problem finding any kind of neck bones, ham hocks, shanks, soup meat, gumbo crabs, smoked sausage, veal knuckle, pork tips, even chicken feet. My favorite place to pick up items for making stocks and just a few blocks from my house. Butcher will cut into small chunks for you (which helps avoid home meat cleaver meets bones disaster - lol) and their prices can't be beat. Decent selection of basic produce, too - onions, bell peppers, celery, carrots, fruits, etc. Only three aisles and small deli counter, but store carries enough of the basics to make a meal or for a quick stop to pick up necessities or perishables between grocery visits (including toiletries, cigarettes and alcohol). Not as large of a selection as Algiers Point Grocery, its only real competition in Algiers Point, but much better prices and just as convenient. Friendly, helpful owners and staff too. read more

The typical convenience store with po boy counter in the back. Don't take the "fine foods" part literally. The prices are cheap, the food is consistent, the workers friendly, and it's the best food place, in point (ish), in my opinion. You can also get the full 32 inch loaf, which is nice. 2.99 for an 8" Hot Sausage but no skimping either. They didn't cut 1 Pattons patty into 4'ths and stuff it into an 8" bun. Nope not these guys. They covered my bun with Pattons and the pickles were plentiful. Why do some people only give you one pickle slice? It's almost as if thats the most expensive part or something..... As you may know it's a little grocery so you can get your 2.99 Po Boy 1.49 hearty helping small fry and a MD 20/20 in many different flavors. Up to you really. Overall just a typical grocery/booze/quick-stop/Po-Boy shop. Of course you can also get all the gumbo, red beans, po man meat specials at the po-boy counter too. Stock up. Still worth the trip. Went in here today for a quick lunch. I bought a catfish sandwich on a bun and a Gatorade, cost: $5.21 including tax. That was an incredible bargain. They aren't small sandwiches, and the sandwich itself was $3.19. It's a steal, and what's more- it was dang tasty! I'll definitely go back for lunch, many more times :) read more

These are the best sandwiches (on French bread, buns, toast or white bread) around and at very reasonable prices. The shrimp po-boy is chock full of shrimp and they're good size shrimp, too, not those little bitty things lots of places use. You can get 8-inch, 16-inch or 24-inch sandwiches, so if three people split a 24-inch shrimp po-boy, you can really save some money. They stuff so many fried shrimp on the sandwich that it's hard to keep them in the bread when you pick it up! If you say dress your sandwich, they dress it; if you say mayo, mustard and onions only, you get it the way you order it. They serve a very inexpensive breakfast, too -- scrambled eggs, grits, buttered toast, and sausage (patties or links) in a Styrofoam to-go container. Their egg/sausage/cheese sandwich on toast is a super breakfast, as the only thing they don't have is biscuits. The owners and employees are friendly and polite and act like they appreciate your business, too. Their sodas and beer are very cold and they have a good selection of items you might need right away, like baking powder, vanilla, yeast, etc. They don't have discount prices but they don't charge an outrageous amount for things like some convenient stores do. This store is always clean, they police the people who come in and do not put up with any nonsense or cursing, so it's a pleasant place to do business with. They treat everyone politely all the time. We've been going there for 19 years and it's been our pleasure to do so -- best convenient store we've ever been to. You won't regret doing business with these men, trust me. This is absolutely my favorite sandwich place! I am born and raised in New Orleans (39 years strong) and have visited other sandwich shops that do not compare to the real southern poboys I'm used to. River Fine makes their poboys just the way I love em! They're inexpensive and always stuffed. The bread is soft which is the way I like it unlike my grandparents who preferred harder french bread. Here's a Fine Fact: They were the ONLY poboy shop still offering Patton's after Katrina and that alone saved my life, literally! I messed up and thought those other shops knew what a hot sausage poboy was.... But hey, while you're there check out the decorated house across the street and the River. Enjoy! read more
