We got 10 pieces of chicken strips and a piece of cheesecake two nights ago. Yesterday afternoon we both start to feel our guts churning, and had terrible diarrhea. We figured it was the cheesecake. Last night my friend had the rest of the remaining chicken, and this morning had the same experience again. I've eaten almost nothing since yesterday, and I'm still not feeling well. Once again late night eats at Hank's. You can't go wrong this time. I indulge myself with the shrimp on bun dressed and it was delicious and under $10. And came out piping hot. Rude staff for hot food. The lady behind the counter made a mistake on my last food order (3rd time in a row for that to happen). After I complained to the manager in front, he told me I should go and get the burrito I actually ordered. The lady demanded I give her the one I had already taken a bite out of (only to realize it wasn't my fucking order). I didn't pay for my replacement burrito, so now I can "na b serve". As if. Took me far too long to try Hank's. My roommate kept telling me they make the best fried fish in town. Well, I love me some Brothers and some Joey K's so I'm not gonna go that far, but it was damn good! It was also affordable. I ordered 3 pieces of fish and got a bottled water with it, and it was only 6 something. They also gave me an extra piece which was pretty rad of them. Comes with plenty of tartar sauce. The fish was perfectly crisp and well seasoned. Ate every morsel. They had to make it fresh for me because someone in front of me bought out all the fish. Didn't take too long. The store is pretty good. They sell all the regular chips and snacks, and even some of my favorite brand of prepared curries. Would be a convenient place to live nearby. read more

I was burned badly when handed a container of food. When I asked to document the injury I was threatened by the security officer. The way they handled an injury in their store is by threatening the life of the customer. This is terrifying and shouldn't be the way a business is run. The police were called and they supported this behavior. This business should be ashamed... Also it's so sad that this is what New Orleans has become as a city. read more

We ordered from Hank's after trying to order from Felix's and Sala, which were both closed. We had a hankering for fried seafood. I ordered a shrimp plate, chicken strip plate, fish plate and a philly steak and cheese sandwich. I think the fried food was on point. It looked and smelled good. I had a piece of my wife's fish. It was a bit chewy, but I'm not sure if that was because of the travel from the shop to our home. The sandwich had a good flavor with the right amount of mayo. The hoagie was soft and fluffy, although I would've preferred french bread. The biggest sin was the lack of meat. I mean, it's a philly steak. Where's the beef Hank? Look at the pic. There was a line but not an outrageous wait. I was hungry so got the 12" fish po-boy and large fries. Damn--8" and small fries would've been enough--there were enough fries to feed a small village! Hank's pulled through for late night delivery when another place cancelled our order an hour passed the time that it was placed! I got the fried shrimp po boy and there were big, juicy, seasoned shrimp in every bite. The lettuce, tomato and mayo only created a fresh and creamy bed for the shrimps but did not take away from the main feature of the sandwich. The bread itself was also substantial and did it's job to tuck in the fried shrimp goodness. Definitely consider Hank's for your late night order. read more

It happened as so often it does when in New Orleans -- you're driving along and going back and forth about where to pick up food. You want to either eat outside (because, hello, still a pandemic), or find a place where you can pick it up to take back home. We were driving up St. Claude when all of a sudden, my friend shouts "IT'S HANK'S! PULL OVER!!" Turns out, she's heard great things and had never happened to stopped by as it's a little out of her typical range of errands, so we pulled over right quick to make a stop. It's tight inside, but that's only because the deliciousness fills up the entire space. It's like the best of local gas station food (which, in NOLA is an actual thing that you can take pride in) with out the gas pumps outside. We bought way more food than we needed (because who turns away great leftovers), and our beverages for the afternoon's festivities, and went home to enjoy. read more

While you might not find it listed in any tourism brochures, Hank's is a place of legend; from the locals who darken the door, to the fried chicken and daily food specials. Not only is there a 24/7/365 hidden treasure of an extensive craft beer and wine selection, but you can get a hot meal whenever you want it. New Orleans is known as a food town and the corner stores are no different. Everyone seems to have that one thing they are known for- for Hank's, it's fried chicken. My original intention was to enjoy this delicacy at home, but the smell of the 4-piece dark meat was so enticing, that I had to throw caution to the wind and sneak a few test bites in the car. The flaky crust and tender meat made for a delicious surprise, and for about $3.50 for four pieces, this might be one of the best fried chicken deals in town. Even if it's your first time visiting Hank's, there's something about the place that feels familiar and welcoming, kind of like New Orleans itself. We were quite tipsy coming from some local restaurant bar and it was passed midnight. Nothing else seem to be open but a friend suggested that I try Hanks supermarket because they have hot food. So after Hanks we go and I look at the menu and find out that they have chicken and french fries and hamburgers and I was super excited. I ordered a burger with french fries and my friend ordered chicken and some other stuff. The lady who only spoke predominately Spanish hook me the hell up. The burger was like the size of a gourmet Barneys burger that you pay something like 15 or $20 for I got for like eight bucks maybe 10 at most inc. fries!!! I ordered a grilled Shrimp Po Boy & a crawfish pie via DoorDash. In the notes/comments I asked that my Po Boy be dressed. Po Boy - I wasn't sure what I would get because in New Orleans dresses can be many different things. Omgsh it's so Good! The French bread seems to have been warmed on a griddle, the shrimp which are huge, are seasoned perfectly. The sandwich has lettuce, onions, pickles, bell peppers. I don't know who made it, but keep them making the sandwiches, Mmmmm. I was so full just from 1/2 (photo shows 1/2 sandwich), but wanted to review to crawfish pie as well. Crawfish Pie - It was Eh. I got crust only in my first bite. It could use much more filling particularly meat, also needs more seasoning (salt may help), if you are the type of person that like food a bit on the blander side then this is for you. It has a hint of flavor, but I was missing the flavoring of what New Orleans usually has, that the Po Boy had. Overall, this is a hard place to review. The employees were nice. I ordered two pieces of fried fish but the edges were thin and hard. But the taste was excellent. It was spicy but not too spicy. Yummy! And the Hispanic ladies who work in the kitchen are store nice. But the neighborhood at night is sketchy and dangerous. When I got there there were two men aggressively arguing in the parking lot. Another man was trying to diffuse it by hitting his car alarm on his car. If you want something to eat late night, this place is a hidden gem! I would say when ordering food, order the items that are already in the display. Those items are fast and you'll get your cravings satisfied. I made the mistake of ordering wings and fries and those are cook to order. The person working the front was on it, but the cooks kept telling her they were cooking them- and we could hear them arguing. After 20 minutes, still no wings, and we could see them just putting them in and making excuses like they were cooking them in the back. Either way, felt torn because we decided after 20 minutes just to get the ready to go items, and they were great! And our server in the hot food section was super nice and accommodating, so I liked her. Hanks saved me one night, late, when there weren't many options near by that were still open. I ordered fried chicken and a shrimp po boy and they did not disappoint. I ordered thinking I'm getting a small portion of chicken, because it didnt cost much at all. When I opened the box I saw that I could've shared it with atleast 2 other adults. Everything tasted really good. This is after midnight but the po boy bread was so soft like it was just baked. That was my first authentic po boy I had while in new orleans. Every time i come to NOLA i go on a hunt for the best po-boy in town, and I thought i tried pretty much everything until i was staying in Marigny and needed a quick late night snack. That's when i discovered that Hank's might actually have the best po boys in town. Sure they aren't the creative masterpieces of killer po boys, but they are a fraction of the price, twice the size, and the fact they are served in a run down corner shop makes them even better. Shrimp, friend chicken, fish, all of it is great. My server was super nice but pretty slow, and it wasn't even all that late, so don't necessarily except fast food speed here. read more

Finally made time to go to Hank's and I'm so glad I did. I went for breakfast and it is easily now one of my top favs in the city. I got eggs, grits, a biscuit, and sausage for $2. It wasn't a small either. The guys in here, especially the nice lady cooking, were very cool people. i didn't feel rushed or as if any of them had a problem with my indecisiveness. So good! I ordered about three times and each time the food was good. The shrimp poboy was great, nice and fresh and the shrimp were clean and cooked right. They didn't have a strong taste but a soft one of the sea, how seafood should taste. The sausage one was just okay but I think it was because I expected a very hot link type of sausage. However, the fish poboy is the best fish sandwich I have ever had. I ate a whole one and was so full but I wanted another one right after. Get it dressed with hot sauce and mayo, extra if you like a moister sandwich. They were so generous with portions and the food is quality, which is rarity in these times. read more

Came to Hank's off of our friends recommendation, we were surprised to see a beat up super market. However, we took her advice and got a shrimp poboy and some fried chicken. Sorry for the lack of chicken picture, we were too hungry on our walk home so we ate that, it was beautifully seasoned and delicious - juicy and oily, exactly what you expect from high quality fried chicken. The poboy left much to be desired though. Only downside of this place is the area.
