Tonight Doc got us reservations for a Speakeasy Mystery Crawl in Nashville. The COLD night air confirmed I better buy a black coat to match the new black dress since they have a dress code. Thankfully I found a bedazzled light weight black coat for $30, bling earrings and a ring to get into the mood for this evening's 7:30 pm event. This shop did not have that musty smell like Goodwill or Savers. We'd shop for music or Big Sky bears ages ago but not clothes. I think watching Twilight Zone in my school age years gave me the Willie's of wearing someone else's clothes. Hub's aunty even told them she had nightmares with her own mom's clothes when she passed. Hopefully the one sage bundle i saw in the shop will be cleansing enough with my purchases. Hubs stayed in the car with Grandpup and Doc decided to go next door and treated us to coffee. Thanks Doc for driving again today and the afternoon caffeine.

Worst place I have been in...ever. My wife and I will never go back…read more Worst owner. He was narcissistic, rude, condescending and cruel to customers who simply asked about prices. Vile human being. First. Super dirty feel. Did not feel like the "store" which is filled with junk has ever been swept. All the items are either overpriced, tourist crap (t-shirts, cutting boards, trucker hats.) the book and record selection was absolutely pathetic. Still we wanted to support this business. I didn't dare say anything because of what happened next. I witnessed the most ugly customer service ever in any business we have ever been in. First, another customer, an elderly man asked about book prices, and the owner basically told the man that he was cheap for asking. Then all hell broke loose when another customer bought some items that were clearly labeled as one price (I checked,) and the owner switched up the price on that customer to try to get more money. The owner lied to the customers face and then he got hostile. The customer said they didn't want the item, because the price was clearly marked, and it's the only reason he wanted the item. The owner reacted like he was being attacked...then he started screaming at the top of his lungs, basically calling the customer a liar. Then the owner started yelling profanities and vulgar language at the customer. Basically saying that he was going to "SA" the customer. It was CRAZY! Then, condescendingly, the owner told the customer to put the items back where they got them, and the customer refused. The customer told the owner that he didn't appreciate being called a liar, and the price was clearly marked. After the owner shouted "f- you." Four or five times, the customer, who was on his way out and said "f-you too, you're a liar." That enraged the owner to the extent that he started screaming and every other word was the f-word. Then it was a shouting match, because the customer had enough of the abuse and verbal assault for no reason. All over the owner either mistaking or forgetting the right price. The customer's friend was there and helped the customer walk out as the man was basically calling him a bigoted slur that shocked even people walking by outside. I ran into the couple at the bookstore down the block (Rhino Books,) where they were calming down. They pointed out that, over the years, they have bought over $100 on books, records and souvenirs from that place. At Rhino, the man spent over $500 on books, so they had money to spend that day--the customer was a really nice person who drove two hours to visit the VA in Nashville, and he chose to go to that store to support local businesses. The owner had been screaming at a decorated war veteran who was disabled! The customer was in the right this time. When I left "Cruel Stuff," I saw that the customer was right about the price. I usually only write positive things if I can. I have nothing to positive to say about Cool Stuff and Weird Things, I would call it "Cruel stuff and rude things." This owner was absolutely rude and what he did and said was completely uncalled for--the way that owner treated his customers...and then screaming I waited two days to say anything. I debated about posting this. That customer wanted to help this business out, only to be screamed at, and it was a good thing that customer had his family member with him because that rude owner was about to get violent. I don't care if they sell full-sized, brand new Corvettes for $20, me and my wife will never set foot in this store for as long as I live. Zero stars. Shame on this owner for verbally assaulting customers simply because his store is poorly organized and he doesn't even know his own prices. It's a damned thrift store, and he is so delusional that he thinks people don't barter in thrift stores. That's what is normal.

The guy in the store seemed friendly as he greeted us when we walked in. The shop is large, clean and well-organized. Very nice aesthetics. We spent most of our time looking through the racks of clothing which we found quite pricey. I normally will not hesitate to pay the price for a one-of-a-kind vintage piece (especially for my kids), but they had several shirts with the same designs or what looked to be new old stock. For the few true vintage concert/music shirts we did like, they were tagged at $300-$600. As lovely as it was to browse, it was not for us.

Ventured to ThriftSmart to donate a few containers of clothes and shoes, and initially had no…read moreintention of shopping, but once I looked around, I had to make a lap through this place! Situated alongside Planet Fitness in an older shopping center on Nolensville Pike, ThriftSmart is a solid spot that is doing good things for the Nashville community! I initially found TS due to their partnership with a local organization, so donating to them was very important and purposeful. The donation process is standard and easy. Pull up, grab a cart, dump your goods and go on about your day. All the donation carts were full when I arrived, which is a good problem, so I got a standard buggy and wheeled my stuff in, then dumped in the large wire bins. Once I was done, I parked and then hit the aisles. The variety of goods that they have is amazing, and the prices are excellent. The place was very busy for a Monday afternoon, and they had plenty of associates and volunteers on the floor and at the registers. Overall, big fan of ThriftSmart and the impact they make to the local community. Worthwhile to stop in out of need or curiosity for sure!

He suggested I pull up in front of his store to help me load the tables (as I had was parked across street at Richland Park Farmers Market). What a contrast to the business down the street where I bought 5 postcards for $2.00 each (grossly overpriced post cards of Nashville) bill total $10.92. Handed him $20.92 and he said thank you. I asked for my $10. change- he (about 30 years old) said oah it was $10.92 - - - other man (owner?) behind counter was watching and the man I asked for my $10.00 change pulled out $20. bill I had given him. Owner? said some people don't know how to make change. I replied it is uncommon that people hand customer their change and verbally count it back - an old school habit. This was a SIMPLE math calculation. All I am trying to point out is the feeling of honesty I experienced at Unique Thrift Store did by far outshine the experience of the Weird Antique business a short distance down the street - having to ask for my $10.00 change seemed purposeful.

I decided to check out The Hip Zipper because it is supposedly the oldest vintage store in Nashville and the prices from other reviewers said were fair to affordable! Selection made for the first stop. I was greeted by the lovely Gracie name suited her. She allowed me to browse quick to answer questions and showed me to the dressing room all while juggling other clients. The Hip Zipper has an ample dressing room for trying on. I think there is only one dressing room. However, in a pinch they might use the restroom. I must mention they do have a restroom which is lovely. I really love the layout of the store easy to survey every rack CLEARLY marked with what is there. The tags give additional help on the size and prices are CLEARLY marked. Please remember vintage does run smaller don't FORCE these garments to fit if you are having trouble PLEASE ask for assistance. I picked up two very fabulous dresses from two different eras of fashion. A sweater dress with amazing details and a matching belt dating from the 1940's to 1950's $ 52.00 and a late 1970's early 1980's dress for a mere $ 10.00! I collect vintage Christmas ornaments (old school satin pushpin style), and there is an amazing vendor at the flea who stocks them in spades! I almost don't want to share that as I want to keep that secret to myself so I can get my favorites every time. She is so kind and even let me dig through her back stock for ones not on display yet.
