Unfortunately, I left feeling completely disappointed and more stressed than relaxed. I went on a Monday morning hoping to avoid crowds and have a peaceful day. Things started off on the wrong foot almost immediately. While I was simply checking the size of the uniform, holding it up to see if there was a difference in the width, an employee came over and snatched the second pair out of my hand as if I was trying to take something I shouldn't have. It was not a great way to start when I had barely gotten in the door. Next, the layout was also really confusing. The spa is spread across multiple floors with different sections and stairways, but no one explained where anything was or how to navigate the space. I spent a lot of time in the morning trying to figure out where I was and it felt like I was nosing around someone else's house: uncomfortable. The biggest issue, though, was communication. A woman in the locker room offered my niece and me a deal for two massages for $140 ($70 each) and asked me to send the money through Zelle. I sent $170, including what I thought was a generous tip of over 20%. She arranged the appointment, but I didn't confirm what type of massage I wanted. I foolishly assumed they would ask before starting. We had lunch beforehand - the food was delicious and the portion was huge. Unfortunately, they don't offer to-go boxes, so I needed to reschedule our massages in order to finish my meal. Before even finishing my meal, I went to the massage counter to see if we reschedule our appointments. A younger patron helped translate at the massage desk, but she needed my time slot and took it for herself. She told me the woman would help me reschedule and then left. When I tried to figure out my new time, the interaction felt rushed and dismissive. I was given time without being asked if it worked for me, and when I asked about other options, I was told there were none. I would have cancelled but had already paid, so I took the L. When it was finally time for the massage, we were taken back without anyone asking what type of massage we wanted. I realized my mistake because it was a much more intense massage style and is not my preference. At that point though, after so many rushed and uncomfortable interactions, I honestly didn't feel comfortable advocating for myself to tell them I wanted reflexology. The final issue happened while I was changing before leaving. The same woman who arranged the massage came over and told me I hadn't paid enough tip. I was confused because... it was a tip. She told me I owed another $20 and (to add insult to injury) that I couldn't get my license back from the front desk until I paid. That brought the tip to over 35% on a service I didn't choose and didn't enjoy. I came to King Spa looking for rest and relaxation, but instead left feeling like I had spent my hard-earned money somewhere that never quite felt comfortable and certainly not welcomed.

They told us they had a Pal Park location that had the time slot we wanted, but it was two single rooms (which was fine by us), so we booked that one instead. The space (lobby area and rooms) looks a lot more modern and newer than most other similar massage places. The massage itself was good. My masseuse checked in a few times to make sure the pressure was fine. There are also hot stones included in the $50/hour massage. Overall, it was a good experience and I would come back, especially since it feels clean. Tip - it's located on a Main Street, so there is no parking lot but it wasn't too busy in the area during the time we went, so street parking is not impossible. Just make sure you leave enough time between finding parking and your appointment time.

She asked whether I want to try something different and suggested lowlights - I had never heard of the term but figured they're like highlights, just less obvious. The first and last time I had had toned down my hair (highlights, actually) was 22 years ago, but the AI photo apps had all suggested recently that I go blonde, so I thought this may be a first step in that direction. She said how long it takes depends on the individual's hair but should take no more than an hour, and I was intrigued. I can do an hour. I told her I really don't want that overbleached, orangish yellow color, and she was on the same page. We were going to aim for a light brown, but that could mean any number of things, right? It came out a copper-bronze that adds just a touch of light around my face. The color looks more obvious in certain angles depending on how my hair is tousled or parted, and I love how it shows up more prominently in the under-layers of my hair and when I put it up in a bun! This is a result of her gathering my hair, then taking some away in a zigzag before bleaching what remained in hand. I really like that she made the bleached hair blend with my natural hair. Btw, she's pretty opinionated and has a lot of comments, but knows her stuff. If you've ever been scared about toning down your hair color, give lowlights a try! It's very affordable here even with the wash and cut afterward. I was here a total of 1:30 including my wash and cut, during which three people walked in. She had to turn them away since she was doing my hair; one person came back at a time she had told him. Glad to see that it's a happening place but that she takes walk-ins like I did :D

The facilities are simple and cozy -- a lounge area with lockers, couches, and a tv, a bathroom, a 'sleeping' room, as well as a wet area that includes an open shower area and a steam room. The co-ed section is even more cozy -- two saunas and a small lounge. On the day I visited, I found my fellow spa-goers to be friendly and open, and from what I gathered from chatting with folks, that seems to be the norm. I'll certainly be back at some point.

Compared to an actual Korean spa, you have to bring your bathing suit. They have changing room areas all around the locker room. The inside has a ton of showers (both Korean style and American). They have an indoor sauna in the girls side and a couple hot tubs. Then you can go out to the outdoor areas. They had a cold waterfall. There were also several unisex hot tubs. This place also has a quiet area to lounge, several saunas with different medical properties, and a gym. The amenities here can go on and on. They definitely balance health with adding a coworking space. It's also interesting they have an infinity pool that shows NYC from the rooftop. The place also has a seasonal grill area and other food court options so you don't have to leave.

I was so impressed when I came here for my perm/haircut that I wanted to share about it. They had so many safety measures throughout: 1) Temperature check to enter 2) Hand sanitizer provided 3) Staff wearing gloves + face shields 4) Plastic dividers between seats 5) Single-use plastic coverings for each chair replaced for each appointment and 6) UV light disinfecting "ovens"/boxes for all equipment. It made me feel safe and comfortable throughout my entire 2-hour appointment there. And outside of the new pandemic-related aspects of my recent appointment here, I always enjoyed getting my haircut and perms here. All of their staff are very skilled and dedicated people.
