I tried the Vietnamese iced coffee, which came with the owner's recommendation to add pandan and coconut milk. It was bold and delicious, though I wished the serving size was larger - just a few sips and it was gone. Despite the smaller size, the prices are reasonable. I was going to bring the gift of coffee to a friend and River Phin helped me find just what I needed! If you have any questions, Jana is very responsive over Instagram and explaining what she has. As a small business, River Phin finds it's greatest strength not only in making a great product, but also being able to connect directly with customers at the farmers market and online. They sell whole beans on their website and in-person, but if you need them ground like my friend they can accommodate. Jana offered to grind the night before, paid via Venmo, and I picked it up the next morning! At the farmers market, I also got the Old Fashioned Vietnamese coffee - rich in flavor and great to sip on. Right at 9am, there is a line to order. Looks like one of the hottest tents at the market! Since then I have followed Vy, who runs this small business with help from her mom. They set up at the Foster City Farmers Market every Saturday. It has become my weekend routine to grab my Vietnamese iced coffee there. Most of the time it is Vy's mom in charge of the iced coffee drinks. That family touch makes it even better honestly! The line can take a little time but every cup is worth it because it is always made fresh to order. I also pick up beans from their booth. My favorites are the Saigon Dark Whiskey and the Countryside Robusta. Both are strong and smooth with that deep flavor I look for when I brew at home. The beans are fresh and roasted with real care, and you can taste the difference right away. River Phin is the kind of local business I want to support. It is small, personal, and focused on quality. My favorite is the decaf coffee from River Phin, it is by far the best decaf beans I've had. I used to get Blue Bottle night light decaf and Counter Culture, but those don't hold a candle to the Mai Decaf. I also love the speciality coffee that they have at the farmer's market. One of the regular espresso has lychee notes in it. The beans are Asian ( Indonesia, Vietnam), so I find the profile really unique and not like your typical Colombian bean at most cafes. If you see the Son Pacamara roast, I highly recommend it. It's one of the best coffees I've ever had. Creamy, caramel, I can hardly believe this is the natural taste of the bean! Whether I'm making espresso at home or getting a latte at the farmer's market, the coffee really does set the tone for the rest of my day. Can't do without it. If you're deep into coffee, this is the place to get some really unique beans/pours. They locally roast, and the owner is in the booth to answer any questions you have. She's a q grader, which is equivalent to a wine sommelier (if you've ever seen that netflix special you'll know how hard it is to get this designation). Out of curiosity I googled it and there are only 108 q graders in the USA and only 2000 q graders in the world. Anyhow, that should tell you how serious they are about coffee. The beans are always nuanced and tasty. I recently had a lychee espresso bean latte that was super tasty and unique. This isn't starbucks where they pump a bunch of sugar into the drink to make it taste like lychee, the beans have the flavor naturally and you get hints of it in the nose and on your palate. They also make vietnamese iced coffee drinks and seem to rotate the specials and flavors here. Again, it's an elevated experience, not what you're getting from a pho restaurant. I guess that's the overall vibe here, everything you like about coffee, but at a higher quality/sophistication level. If you're into coffee, this place is worth the stop, highly recommend, two thumbs up, five stars, etc etc. read more
