If you like corn, the corn milk matcha is now my new fave! It is made with oat milk & some condensed milk so still some dairy which I'm fine with. Delicious per usual. :) The team is incredible in moving the lines/orders through despite the lines.
I was excited to see a new coffee shop open in Redwood City, especially one with ample parking! Luma Coffee Lounge wasn't too busy on a Saturday morning. The interior was very spacious, but somewhat sterile. I prefer my coffee shops to be cozy, and this one had the bright shiny vibe of an Apple Store. I ordered a Honey Lavender Latte, which was tasty and well-made. I was tempted to get a pastry, but all their savory options contained pork, so I skipped it. Service was pretty quick, although a little lukewarm. Would return to try more!
Hojicha Latte 10/10 Panela Latte 10/10 Unfortunately, I got there around 1 PM on Saturday and all the pastries were already sold out I really wanted to try them, so I'll definitely have to come back! I love that they use Nami Matcha, which I've been wanting to try! The music selection was also really good and they have a nice sound system, which made the whole atmosphere even better. Another thing I loved was the parking situation. There's a spacious parking lot right next to the cafe, which is super convenient. The cafe is inside the church but has a separate entrance directly into the cafe, so it still feels like its own space. The seating area seems to be part of the church entrance, but during non church hours it turns into more of a cafe seating area. It was really nice, peaceful, and relaxing. Definitely coming back to try the pastries next time!
Service is amazing as always. I'm a huge fan of Kaizen so I was excited to try this place out. The flavored lattes are just ok. The Panela was not sweet enough meanwhile the salted toffee was too sweet even at half the sweetness. The staff was very sweet and made adjustments (added more panela syrup) but still it just was quite bland. Also, went here a second time and got their mango matcha and it was definitely better than the lattes.
I love trying new matcha spots and this definitely did not disappoint. Me and my friends came here and all ordered the mango matcha. To our surprise it was perfect, not too sweet and the matcha was not too earthy like others I've tried before. The layout inside was quite unique, as when you enter where you order seems a bit tight and small, but as you continue to walk inside there is a nice, huge seating area to chat or do some work. There is so much space they could even add more tables. We enjoyed our visit here!
Arrived right when they opened and it was the perfect timing on a Sunday morning. Walking in, organized and clean, I was also greeted right away. Esperanza mentioned how she was the only opener at the moment and said the coffee machine was still getting cleaned. No worries I wanted matcha, but I was thankful she mentioned it to me right away. She was very friendly and explained the sweetness level for the matcha. Overall, I liked the matcha. This is a perfect spot for anyone who wants to chill, work, do homework, or hangout with friends.
LUMA Coffee Lounge is tucked inside Rise City Church in Redwood City, and it has such a spacious, calm, minimal feel. I got the salted toffee latte, and my friend got the honey lavender latte. Both were sweet little treats in the best way. They also use Nami matcha, which is a nice detail if you're a matcha person. My friend said their matcha was pretty decent too, so I'd love to try that next time.
I'm so happy that Kaizen has expanded to their sister coffee shop, Luma! I was so concerned there wouldn't be any parking but it's located at a church, so there is ample parking! When you first walk in, you're greeted by the baristas and can try their chocolate! I think they're promoting their new product. The baristas are all kind and friendly. We didn't know what Panela meant, but they were happy to share it's a brown sugar latte and that their mango matcha latte were both popular drinks. Of course, that's exactly what my friends and I ordered! The mango matcha latte was delicious! The mango puree they used tasted freshly made and was perfectly sweet with the Nami Matcha they used. The Panela coffee was also really really good! Perfectly sweet and the coffee was so balanced. Another positive about Luma is that there is a lot of space to sit and enjoy your drinks! It has two pros that is a struggle when you go to kaizen... parking and crowding. All in all, really good drinks and vibes! I'm already looking forward to my next visit!!
Luma is such a cute café with a beautiful aesthetic. The space is bright, cozy, and has a great atmosphere for hanging out or getting some work done. I ordered the Panela and the Salted Toffee coffee. Unfortunately, the Panela tasted a little too sour for my liking, and the Salted Toffee reminded me of See's Candies--very sweet and candy-like, which wasn't really what I was expecting. The coffee itself was just okay. I'd still come back because the space is so nice, but I'd probably try a different drink next time.
Cute new coffee shop! It's owned by the same people that own Kaizen in San Mateo. The coffee shop opens to the lobby of an interesting modern church but I heard it's not strictly affiliated with the church. So sometimes you will have a live sermon going on in the background! There's a nice bright seating area in the lobby. There are also some clean restrooms here too. I tried the matcha latte and thought it was excellent. Not too sweet and good temperature. The iced hojicha latte was also not bad but a bit too sweet at the default level for me. I would get it slightly less sweet next time!
What a surprisingly spot! Redwood city has been in dire need of a solid coffee and matcha place and I believe this is it. This coffee lounge rivals the aesthetics and flavors that you find in Palo alto and south bay and I'm glad there's an option here now. Panela latte: Their take on a vanilla latte, but with citrus flavors. I absolutely love this drink because it tastes like an espresso tonic in latte form Matcha latte: My friend got no sweetness in hers and it's lovely how much matcha flavor there is and the ratio of matcha to milk Inside is super spacious and a great place to catch up with a friend or get some work done! On sundays they have the service playing over the speakers as well. Service is a bit slow, thus the long lines, but I'm a big fan and just go during less busy hours
Really nice high quality matcha! LGBT Friendly store ! Staff were super nice and sweet, gave good recommendations/patient with me when I had a long order. I liked the cute trinkets and vibes. Haven't had their espresso yet but they have one of those big boy espresso machines 10/10 They are not part of the church/just share same building/lot, I tried coming on a Sunday and it was swamped. Glad I came back today ! :-) There's a shared lobby u can do work in/sit at. There's Ada friendly bathrooms :3 Ham and cheese croissant was deliciousness
Luma Coffee Lounge definitely lives up to the "lounge" in its name! It's a spacious spot with tons of seating, making it a great place to hang out and enjoy your drink. A huge bonus is the plentiful parking, which is especially appreciated when visiting a busy coffee shop in downtown Redwood City. I tried the mango matcha and it really hit the spot. They use Nami matcha for their drinks, and you can definitely taste the quality. The matcha is also on sale on their merch rack. Dont forget to take a picture with your drink in the Luma selfie mirror! I'm looking forward to coming back and trying their coffee next time.

Loved the flavor of the matcha. Not super umami, but subtly present. If you like your drinks sweeter, I recommend telling the barista before. Nice and spacious seating area, it's a church lobby area so not cafe style. Would come again. read more
Even though it's called Luma Coffee Lounge, there's hōjicha & matcha available. A lot of menu items were either not available yet or out of stock. We stopped by during lunch and there was a short line, but it moved quickly. From start to finish, it took ~10 minutes to receive our drinks. Loved the free Pokémon cards at the register! Our order: Mango Matcha Latte ($8.00): 50% sweet, Less ice, Whole milk +Hand-whisked to order, the matcha was smooth and earthy w/no graininess at the bottom. +Layers of green, white, and orange made for an aesthetically pleasing drink. -I'm glad I ordered 50% sweetness, b/c I thought it was quite sweet. -No option for no ice: Less ice looked like 100% ice, except w/less matcha 2X Mango Matcha Latte ($8.00): 100% sweet, 100% ice, Oat milk +Not mine, but my companion enjoyed it! Side notes: 1.) Self-serve napkins and straws 2.) Plenty of indoor seating 3.) Free parking in the lot *Verdict: I didn't realize it was related to Kaizen & Coffee in San Mateo, which is one of my fave cafés. New coffee shop at Redwood city. It was nice shop with clean interior and plenty of seating. It was busy whem we arrived. If I am mistaken the shop has connection with Kaizen in San Mateo. It serves coffee ,latte, espresso, matcha and limited choice of pastries. The pastries also almost the same as Kaizen. We ordered latte and croissant. They are good but I feel the latte was made in hurry. There are plenty parking space available. read more

New matcha spot in RWC! Located on the side conjoining lobby with a church. Went on a Sunday, so got my church fill while waiting in line lol. Ordered the mango matcha latte with oat milk, Hojicha latte with oat milk, and a cortado with oat milk. They use nami matcha and minor figures oat milk! The mango matcha was good but I felt that the matcha was a bit grainy & had a slight astringent/bitter taste & there was A LOT of mango puree in it which kind of covered the astringent bitter flavor profile but may have over powered the matcha a bit. My friend liked the hojicha latte and said it was really good, not too sweet, and just the right amount of roasty. The cortado didn't taste like an cortado at all, just tasted like 2 shots of espresso. I also ordered a ham and cheese croissant. They don't currently have an oven to warm their pastries, but said they will be getting one? Nothing special with the croissant. It was flaky but a little plastic-y, soft but good. Maybe better warm? As far a line, I was the second person out the door when I went. Shop is small so the line isn't too long, but from lining up to getting my drinks it was about a 20ish minute wait. Parking is either the open spaces for the church parking lot or on the street. It's very limited if there's a service going on. read more

Located in a church, Luma is easily spotted with their sidewalk sign. The interior is clean and minimal, with seating that appears shared with the church. The employees are very friendly and happy to answer any questions you might have. There has been a line the two times I've visited, but the drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time. I've tried the matcha latte (oat milk) and the mango matcha latte (also with oat milk). Both were underwhelming. The matcha flavor has been very subtle and the drinks are a tad too sweet, especially with the mango. read more
New matcha located inside a church. The ordering area is small but they do have several tables available for you to chill at. Employees were all very friendly! We tried the regular matcha latte with whole milk which tasted like an average cup of matcha at first and really tasted like water after the ice started to melt. My friend did order it a second time with oat milk which really elevated the flavor despite the ice melting so highly recommend oat milk! The mango matcha was really good at first but as soon as the ice melted, it tasted like a cup of unripe mango fibers. So despite their cups saying to enjoy slowly, I do recommend that you enjoy it quickly to maximize the enjoyable time. read more

Great spot for matcha! The staff are so nice and you can tell they care about their products and customers. The place is on the smaller side but there is a large lounge. If going on a Sunday morning, I suggest parking down the street, just a short walk. Other than Sunday mornings there is plenty of parking. I've gotten matcha at many other places, the quality of Luma's matcha is much better than most places. It's smooth and sweet but not too sweet. It's my new regular spot! read more

Stopped by this newish coffee lounge in Redwood City after having lunch with some friends. The aesthetics of this cafe reminded me alot of the cafes I would see in LA! I love the minimalistic style and the matcha and coffees were unique such as salted toffee latte, mango matcha latte, and panela latte. I decided to try the mango matcha latte, and I would have to say it was tasty! It could be a bit stronger on the matcha but overall it was good. Service was also quick which I appreciated. read more
I don't really find myself going to RWC often, but now I have a reason to. Stopped by this new café and really enjoyed it. The space is clean, bright, and has a nice relaxed feel. One thing I immediately appreciated was the smaller menu. I know some people like a lot of options, but I actually prefer when cafés keep things simple and focus on doing a few things really well. You can tell they care about the quality and craft, especially watching the drink being made. I got the matcha latte and honestly took my sweet time drinking it lol. The matcha was smooth, buttery, and not bitter at all. They used a good amount of matcha, but it was still incredibly balanced. The vibrant green color was the first thing I noticed, and that's always a good sign. My son got the mango matcha and really enjoyed it too. Customer service was really good, quick turnaround around time from ordering to getting the drinks. As for pastries, I know they're still new, so I'm sure they're figuring things out. When I went, there were only two croissant options available--butter and almond. Both looked good, but I'd love to see a few more choices down the road. Maybe a couple of cookies (please please do like a black sesame cookie lol) would be a nice addition while still keeping things simple. Overall, a great first impression. Good drinks, quality ingredients, and a café I'll definitely be coming back to. read more

panela latte - kind of sour/acidic, didn't really enjoy it tbh matcha latte (unsweetened) - using 6g of nami matcha, maybe it's the nami matcha powder but it was still lacking in matcha flavor for me. tasted better after adding another shot. the space is nice and comfortable though, unlike many other coffee shops that dont have much space to sit around. I do think the drinks are better at kaizen though read more

I got to visit the soft opening for Luma this weekend and I was left so impressed! It is located at the Rise City Church in Downtown Redwood City with its own entrance. I love the simplicity and minimal aspect inside! We were greeted by the staff upon entering and were asked for our opinions on their drinks so they can work on any improvements. But we were really amazed with the drinks we ordered! My friend, boyfriend, and I ordered the 3 drinks from their Signature Menu: - Panela Latte: Their version of a Vanilla Latte with a hint of citrus - Luma No 3: A nice sweet latte that wasn't overpowered with the spice that is in the drink - Mango Matcha Latte: Such a vibrant green & very refreshing! They also use Nami Matcha! The staff were very friendly and I wish them all the success with the cafe! I will definitely be coming back to try out the rest of the menu read more
When I got wind of this new coffee shop I knew I had to make the drive up to check it out. I walked in and was confused where the line started as there was no sign. I walked all the way to the other end just to be told by another customer that the line was by the entrance I just walked through. By then everyone that walked in behind me had made a line in front of me. I knew I had to try both the coffee and matcha and tried the salted toffee on my first visit and the mango matcha on my second visit. The salted toffee was delicious. I asked it for it to be less sweet at 25%. The mango matcha (less sweet) was a good matcha but the mango flavor was overpowered by the matcha flavor. I couldn't taste the mango. The space would benefit from clear signage of where to order and where to pick up orders. The staff benefits from welcoming all their customers and acknowledging them if they are taking a long time to take their orders. The vibe is not welcoming. During my second visit there was plenty of people available to take orders but no one did and the line just got bigger. None of the customers were acknowledged or thanked for waiting. The lounge area was loud full of laptops. Felt more like an open concept to work than a place to chill and catch up. I parked off to the side of the church the first time and the second time inside the church parking. I see this being difficult to access the coffee shop when church is in session. There's two entrances one facing the busy street and the other by the church parking. Bathrooms are clean. This shop offers another good coffee and matcha option for this area. read more

Went to Luma wanting to get their matcha but ended up chatting with the barista and owner and instead got the hojicha. It was nice and light, perfect for an afternoon caffeinated drink. The workers were super kind and helpful. Nice bright space to get some work done. I do wish there were more tables and seating options as they were all full when I was there. But that is usually a good sign! read more
What a cool spot! It's connected to a Christian church and is super modern. The vibes were great. The food and drinks were awesome! I ordered an iced matcha latte and a honey, sausage and brie danish. The matcha was perfect. The danish was to die for. The flavors worked so well together. My only recommendation would be that it'd be even better warmed up. The service was great and quick. If I'm ever in the area, I'll for sure be swinging by! read more

Coffee spot somewhat inside of a church. We were excited to try their matcha as we found this place online. I had ordered a regular matcha latte with whole milk and it wasn't the best taste for me. Once mixed, it was very milky, a little grainy, and color looked disheartening. Service was really sweet and vibes of the overall place looked amazing. Mini seating on the walls. My friend ordered their mango matcha which I had tried and I felt like it was super sweet with lots of syrup. I would be open to potentially coming back to try again but I wasn't particularly impressed with their matcha. Super unfortunate. read more

Tired to come here before and the line was too long but tried again and it was a success! We got a typically iced latte and a mango matcha. I would say it's a solid coffee spot. The Mango matcha I think it's good for people who like fruit matchas, I think the mango combination personally just wasn't a hit, BUT I can see WHY people enjoy it because it's quite refreshing and sweet. read more
Luma has quickly become my favorite coffee/matcha spot in RWC. They really take their time with each drink, weighing out the ice the milk the matcha so it's very consistent every visit. Service is fantastic, usually see the same faces every visit. Only downside is this location is very small so don't be afraid of tight spaces. Oh and also Luma is in a church and can be quite difficult to find on your first visit. Street parking is free but hard to come by. I highly recommend you give them a try! read more

I recently hear through a friend that there was a new coffee lounge in Redwood City. I was in the area and drove over to try it out. I was slightly confused at first because there's also a church parking lot but found it with ease. As you enter, it's quiet, clean and has a very relaxed aesthetic. I like that they had a very simple menu to choose from, I ordered an iced panela latte. The coffee taste was strong and flavorful, I can't wait to come back to try their mango matcha. read more
Sooo excited to have another cafe open up by work and somewhere with delicious matcha!! There def aren't many in RWC. I've already been here twice in the same week. Their matcha is perfect and you can just tell by the color. The toffee latte was also great, though the barista told me it was on the sweeter side so I asked for less sweet and it was perfect. Super modern cafe on the side of a church with open space and some seating. Come check it out RWC folks :) read more
