I have tried very hard to like Penelope's. It is locally owned and in a great area where the kids can play on the playground while I have a coffee. It has everything going for it except... the coffee is awful. I have tried hot, cold, espresso, pour over, you name it. It's just bad. I don't know if the staff has no idea how to make coffee or the beans they use are bad or some combination. The food has always been mediocre, but I don't go to a coffee shop for food, I go for coffee. I just can't anymore. I would love for this place to be amazing and for it to be a regular stop to grab coffee, but after having to throw out my most recent $6 cup because it was undrinkable, I'm just done. Fantastic breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches! They provide a good, hearty breakfast with a hefty portion size. And the side sauce they provide, I'm not quite sure what it is but it's delicious with the sandwiches/burritos. Their coffee is a hit or miss, I've gotten their iced lattes and at times it's been too much milk.. and I'm essentially drinking a $6-8 cup of milk. so I've had to add an extra shot of espresso.. it shouldn't come to this point because the coffee taste should be there and not just straight up milk. They also have a small selection of pastries and I personally love the marble bread! so moist and not too sweet. read more

Overdue review! Penelope's serves coffee and tea, pastries, and breakfast items. The husband and I stopped by for some drinks and a light snack while we were in the area. We ordered the Penelope's Samosa (espresso shot, caramel, chocolate, coconut), Lillian Latte (espresso shot, lavender, French vanilla), and the Honey Berry Toast (cream cheese, sliced strawberries, almonds, drizzled in honey). Drinks and food came out quick, and the staff were super welcoming and friendly. Both drinks were really good, and I though the Honey Berry Toast was delicious! Highly recommend trying it out! Penelope's is a fairly sized with seating available inside and out. It is located within a residential neighborhood with plenty of street parking available. Excellent service and very pretty atmosphere. Coffee is delish! I've never had a womlette before so had to try the bacon. I would like a chipotle sauce to go with this. It's a little dry but tasty. Penelope's Coffee & Tea is kinda hidden amongst a residential neighborhood, but there were ample parking spots available when we arrived around 4pm on a weekday. Plenty of seating indoors and out. There's also a park across the way if you have children you want to tire out lol. We ordered: small Iced Matcha Chai Latte - best of both worlds small Iced Penelope's Samoas - dessert in a cup (in the best way) Both were really good! Just a tad sweet for my liking. Customer service was great. I overheard a customer concerned he was double charged, but the lady at the counter went out of her way to listen to his concerns, go over things on her end, ensure she would escalate the issue to her manager, and keep in touch with him. She handled it very well. Didn't mean to eavesdrop but it was kinda quiet in there lol. I will definitely keep this coffee shop in mind next time I'm in the area. read more

Walked in on a Thursday afternoon looking to grab a drink. It's located near an apartment complex and was pretty quiet and lowkey when we walked in; seems like it would be a good study spot. My friend ordered the gummy bear tea, and I got the Costa Rican Joe pour over. The gummy bear tea is just what it sounds like, tea with gummy bears, which was interesting! Found this little gem when visiting foster city before the 4th of July fire works. Space inside is big with lots of seating as well as patio seating. I tried the Penelope's Samoas iced and I will say the coffee is great here. You still taste the coffee with just the right amount of sweetness from the chocolate and coconut flakes. We also tried the lemon poppy seed muffin and that itself was moist and flavorful. The cashier was nice even though they closed early due to the holiday she still let us order with 5 minutes before closing. She was nice and friendly and she made our drinks! read more

This place is right across the street from my office so I go here often when I'm downtown. The coffee is fine, but I'm a huge fan of the womlets, despite the terrible name (though "eggfle" is worse). I like them because they're filling, but not too heavy, so I don't feel like I need a nap afterwards. The staff is nice, though the womlets do take some time to cook (which is fair). Place is clean and the pastries are tasty. My only note is that I got the breakfast burrito once and while it was very tasty, I felt like it needed more filling. I feel like the womlet is a better value for the amount of food you get and the difficulty of preparation. Definitely getting womlets every time. read more
