After many years they still don't have WiFi that covers the whole Cafe. They claim that they need to keep the router safely locked up in their office instead of placing it, for instance, near their 14' ceiling! C'mon. Fix this problem! Also, ordered the $2.50 cup of soup and was charged $5 for it. I assumed the server didn't hear me correctly so I didn't object or question. When my soup was brought it indeed was the cup not the bowl. What happened? Otherwise it is a charming place in St. Peter and open on Sunday! For the past few years, I've been a coffee enthusiast; that much I know. What I didn't know (up until I moved up to Mankato) is that I am also a grilled cheese enthusiast. Of all of the coffee and grilled cheese I have encountered in the greater Mankato area, River Rock in St. Peter has yet to be surpassed. My usual here is an all-organic grilled cheese (obviously) and a Golden Milk Latte, which can be described as "tastes similar to how a fireplace looks," i.e. grand, cozy, and inviting. However, unlike a fireplace, it will not burn your house down if you happen to live with a moron. At most, it will burn your tongue, but that's only if you're a complete wimp. It is apparently caffeine-free, but very useful to have during the frigid Minnesota winters. The beans are from Kickapoo Coffee (wherever that is). They aren't half bad either. Worth a shot if you're in Mankato or St. Peter. read more

Seriously great coffee for serious coffee enthusiasts. The density of the cappuccino foam was spot on and the espresso was smooth. I went to St. Peter on a Sunday afternoon to explore a bit. I've been wanting to try River Rock Coffee for a while since I moved from the cities and haven't really found my go to coffee spot. I loved the atmosphere: modern but industrial. I thought it a bit odd that the kitchen wasn't closed off but that's not a big deal. I ordered my coffee and waited. I got the one with rosemary and caramel, it was great! Although I do wish it was a bit warmer since it was luke warm within a few minutes. I also had a breakfast sandwich which did not disappoint. World-class third-wave coffee shop. I'm an unashamed coffee snob who loves really good coffee. That means different things to different people, but for me it's light roasts, with complex flavors that taste great without add-on flavorings. I stopped by on a long road trip to grab coffee and lunch, expecting at least a decent cup of coffee based on their great branding (usually correlates to good coffee in my experience). But I was blown away by absolutely top tier coffee, right up there with the best I rely on at home in California. Highly recommended! read more

So i moved here for the summer for an internship that is an 8-5 deal 5 days a week and doesn't pay a thing. Did I also mention I am car-less, yet still I walk 1.22 miles every Saturday and some Sundays just to get my coffee. That's dedication my friends. The coffee is wonderful, reminds me a little bit of Barefoot without the Hipster pretense and the staff is really nice, especially to newcomers to town like me, and know their coffee, which says a lot since I'm a coffee addict. Oh and did I mention they serve breakfast, lunch, and treats made from local farms? I didn't? oh well now I did. The food is good and the atmosphere is peaceful. Great for just relaxing from a busy work week. It's really nice to see a local business take advantage of all the great things a town has to offer and then give it back to the community. read more

This place is roughly 1/2 way between my Burnsville casa and the home of my parental units in Estherville, Iowa. As a result, I try to swing in to the dull the pain of that 2.5 hr. drive through corn fields with a little pick-me-up. Today I got lunch to go. A grilled veggie and cheese sandwich on multi-grain bread with kettle chips. It was very tasty with shredded carrots, red onion, field greens, roasted red peppers, dijon mustard and house made garlic aioli. Mmm. Their menu also includes 2 kinds of quiche each day (their self proclaimed best menu item) as well as homemade soups, salads and sandwiches. Fresh pastries, espresso drinks, smoothies and even homemade dog biscuits round out the menu. River Rock makes some of the prettiest drinks, just as seen in the Green Hornet movie. I'm going to upload a few pictures of their cappuccinos. They also have some pretty unique flavors: cardamom, lavender, gnoche, etc. Also, their home baked bread is some of the best I've ever had. Stopped by for some organic treats on the way home from a North Shore hiking trip. The staff was incredibly friendly and the desserts we tried - beet chocolate cake with cream cheese icing, cinnamon coffee cake, and vanilla bean cheesecake topped with fresh peaches - were all completely delicious, along with being freshly made and organic. The cheesecake was one of the best I'd ever had, and the peaches sealed the deal. Would love to stop by again and try the coffee. Everything is made fresh on site and it's easy to tell because the quality and flavor is amazing, I love this place. Great coffee, great food, great service and a great place to buckle down and hit the books! The 5th star is definitely for their awesome service. I don't know if it's a sign that I come here too much, but half of the staff know my name and are always friendly and attentive. My favorite snacks are the caramel apple bars and oatmeal raisin cookies, though you honestly can't go wrong with anything you get from their little bakery selection. I love Riverrock! Riverrock has well trained and knowledgeable staff who know how to make an espresso drink the way it's supposed to be made. They have excellent drip coffees and wonderful chocolate if you decide to order a hot chocolate or mocha. Their food is delicious. Whenever possible their ingredients are local and always thoughtfully crafted into wonderful pastries, quiches, and sandwhiches. My personal favorite is the tuna melt. Best tuna melt I've ever had, hands down. Make sure you order a side salad, because their homemade balsamic dressing is incredible! read more

Great stop for great coffee on the way through this quaint little Laura Ingalls Wilder with indy cred type town. They take coffee seriously and treat it ethically. They make their own flavors so don't come in here for some frappaccino milkshake anti coffee beverage. Good baked items as well. My wife and I just finished having both of their available sandwiches - they were as carefully constructed as their coffee drinks. Thoughtful. Delicious. We both have a love/hate response to the bread and chips... The artisanal corn tortilla chips were undoubtedly curated from the Central American region where they get some of their coffee beans. Excellent taste, but hard/crisp enough to rattle & tickle my eardrum on one occasion. The delicious bread was the same - toasted for the sandwich's sake... With enough crunch in the crust to rumble a molar. I don't reduce a star for these things because this is simply how it's been determined to be done in the artisanal food industry. Local art on the walls on exposed brick and well appointed interior make this corner shop a comforting place to be, winter or summer. If you want Starbucks or Caribou - skip it. I drink a lot of coffee and visit a coffee house in every town I go through. River Rock is my absolute favorite! I'm a huge fan of their lattes and their seasonal flavorings, but their straight up, hot coffee is where it all starts. Great taste, great finish. In addition, their baked goods are outstanding! Cookies, scones, breads, breakfast pies, etc., everything is wonderfully created with natural and local elements. Flavors are consistent and pure without all that extra sugar added. My favorite item, however, is the hermit - an oatmeal-y chocolate chip cookie. A perfect complement to a great cup of coffee! And their staff/baristas are very personable and exceedingly talented. Wonderful people with whom to interact. Take the extra few minutes and go to St. Peter to get your coffee the next time you're in the area. And I think they're just starting work on their bakery/store just down the street. Should be another stop to keep in mind. read more

I feel like this is the only coffee shop in southern Minnesota that has kept up with the changing coffeehouse trends. They really know what they're doing when it comes to coffee and espresso. Every single staff member I've met has been a delight. They do an impressive amount of baking every day, and often have a vegan option. River rock is definitely worth the trip, and I'd recommend ordering a drink in which you can actually taste the flavor of the espresso. It's incredible. read more
