Our room had a wonderful sitting area, gas fireplace and giant king size bed that provided one of the best nights' sleep I have had in a hotel. The innkeeper is so lovely, friendly and ensured our stay was exceptional. The thing we loved the most about our stay were the details. The well appointed bathroom and the coffee bar were both notable additions which made our stay more enjoyable. The breakfast in the morning was delicious, featuring a mushroom and prosciutto frittata that was next level spectacular. The condo unit I stayed in appears to have been recently renovated with fresh paint and new kitchen appliances. The place was immaculate. The restaurant, Millbrook Tavern and Grill also upped their game. The food served for dinner was much fresher and tastier. During my stay I had their fish and chips, Maine lobster roll, and the Southwestern Rice Bowl. For starters I had their clam chowder and wedge salad. All were very good. Service, which has been notably slow in the past, was terrific. Each night our servers were quick and pleasant. The bartender, was equally quick serving great drinks. The golf was fine. The area has been inundated with heavy rain for over a month. So the course was sloppy wet in many areas, so much so we were told to ride cart paths only for the first 2.5 days. But it was still quite playable and is a nice layout with some challenging holes. Scenery on some holes is gorgeous looking at the Maine mountains. We had a great 4 days at The Bethel Inn.

Not fun when every place is jam-packed and it's five degrees out. The in-house restaurant won't even do takeout, so forget getting a pizza in your room. Winter amenities - the pool (closed), s'mores, sleigh rides - there wasn't a word about them. So the hotel is advertising features that clearly don't exist, or at least communicating very poorly about their availability. The staff are overwhelmed. They are so busy trying to keep the place afloat that they don't have time to solve problems. There was no manager on premises the entire weekend we were there. We didn't need one, but there was a family there who'd just arrived at their Bethel Inn time share, only to find that the place the had partial ownership of was occupied. Again, no manager, no solution, ruined vacation for that family. That's right. This isn't a place that is simply poorly organized. They are in such dire straights that they actually RUIN vacations. Here's a clue as to why. Just look at the help wanted ads. Sunday River hotel jobs generally pay several dollars more per hour and include ski benefits, health care, and even housing. For example, an $18/hr hotel maintenace tech job at Bethel with no benefits pays $24/hr at Sunday River. Even a bellman at Sunday River's hotel makes $22/hr, also gets tips, free skiing, and subsidized housing. The Bethel Inn was bought by a large hotel chain a few years back. The chain owns a lot of Holiday Inn Express and Fairfield Inn locations, in addition to "luxury" destinations. It seems pretty clear that the owners have yet to decide which they want the Bethel to be.

From the moment you walk in, there's a cozy living room with games, books, and drinks (Bailey's Irish Cream, Port, and Sherry, I believe). You're also greeted by Jeanette's freshly baked goods of the day in the kitchen. I loved that the B&B was close to other Bethel restaurants and attractions. During our few days in town, we ate at 3/4 places that John recommended and even attended the Bethel Harvestfest and Chowdah Cookoff. Even though we had a car, we enjoyed walking, so we strolled past Gould Academy which had some nice views. I'd definitely recommend this B&B if you want a quiet and cozy place to stay for a few nights. It's really raised the bar for future B&Bs! Hopefully we'll be back one day.

Three days trapped in a tiny studio was too much. Even though most of the rooms were empty, they wouldn't upgrade us to something a little bit bigger leaving us in a lonely, negative, dark, and cramped space, which increased stress and anxiety. The temporary bridge will not handle the weight of a firetruck, ambulance or any vehicle of considerable weight. The staff that were confined with us for the 3 days were incredibly helpful and informative about the bridge/road that washed away being needed for repair for a very long time. Keep your family safe and away from the Grand Summit and Sunday River.

But this resort, the staff went all out and was…read moreso friendly, personable and approachable that I felt compelled to write a review to acknowledge their customer service, the overall experience and the way the resort felt when we were there during our recent vacation in end of June to July 4th (6/27/25-7/4/25) Front staff Jay (3pm to 11pm shift) was great. Very friendly and had lots of recommendations of place to visit around the surrounding area of Newry, Maine. Always approachable via text message and always knew my name and called me by name when he saw me. The activities the resort put out in the lounge for the kids was also the best I have seen in the many timeshare resorts I been to. Thumbs up to the resort and team for thinking about the kids. Greg (11pm to 7am overnight shift) was extremely friendly and helpful , the first night we checked in as we got there at 3am after (15 hour) drive from NYC to Newry. On our second to last night my daughter saw a teddy bear at their mini gift shop and since my daughter refuse to part with it, Greg was so nice to buy it for her. The gesture touched my heart and may our trip extra special. Unfortunately we didn't know their summer season begins after July 4th. Most resorts the season begins after Memorial Day. But I guess, not here. So we were 1 week too early which meant most activities didn't start yet. But on the flip side, we had the resort all to ourselves and also the undivided attention of all the staff. Greg said the staff works between Sunday river and the other two resorts. The Grand Summit lodge and our resort - The Jordan. We went to visit the other two resorts and the golf course on our last few days and we loved the decor and feel of our resort more. It was more modern and sophisticated, also bigger. The sister resort looked older and less expensive in comparison. The room we got check into on the first night was a studio deluxe and it had problems. The closet door was broken and we didn't know it was a Murphy bed with a sofa bed. So we called front desk regarding a room upgrade. The staff in the morning Gary, saw the notes left by Greg and we were allowed to upgrade (on the house) to a bigger unit - two floors with two bedrooms, a sunroof, balcony and two private full size bathrooms with loft upstairs bedroom and a master bedroom with full living room and full kitchen. It was a surprise and well received upgrade on the house. We loved it to say the least. We didn't have our housekeeper do much except to change the towels and take out the garbage. I guess they must had been happy. They were friendly and gave my daughter rubber ducky and bubble bath soap. On second to last day another housekeeping staff got my daughter crayon, coloring pages and candy. Their mascot Eddy and Betty the yetis are quite adorable. And it's an ongoing theme throughout the resort. They are trying to make this resort an all season resort. But you can tell they are mostly ski and winter snow season resort and best time to come is during the ski season. Probably most popular time too. Our check out was July 4th, but we stayed nearby for the firework show at Gotham, NH. As the resort prepared for Independence Day they put out a lot of treats and glow sticks as well as stickers and candy. Which was a nice surprise. The resort also has grills that allow guest to use any times. We grilled! Also had a pool and hot tub ... too bad the hours were so restrictive and close early that we only got to use it for 10 mins on one of our days. Lastly the gym was open longer, and guest can use it whenever. Making s'mores on the fire pit seems like a big thing in Newry and in the neighboring town. So we did that activity twice. It was fun! The resort provided all the supplies. Personally, I love the feel of this resort and highly recommend them. If it wasn't such a far drive, I would go more often. Maybe in the future will try to go here for ski season.

Pleasant River is a nice, unassuming little motel. It is convenient to Sunday River (about a 10…read moreminute or less drive) and we stay there often during the ski season (we have season passes so don't need ski & stay packages). The place is clean. The price is great. The wifi always works great. They charge by the room and not, like most places around there, based on per person full occupancy. We almost always stay 2 nights on weeknights and the 2 of us get a room with microwave and fridge for under $60/night (that is for the both of us, not each). The McCartney's, the proprietors, are quiet, friendly and provide great service.

We where able to get a tow to the Pleasant River Hotel with the help from a nice couple and a few other bikers . We where able to get the last room .after long and trying day the owners Mr and Mss . Brown Made us feel at at home .. Helping me with my motorcycle so we can get back on the road.. Besides the clean and comfortable room and the southern hospitality.. found in Maine we are thankful for a for the Browns and are looking forward to staying there again under better circumstances.....

Here's the thing -- if you have a…read moredog, and you care about their well-being while you're out skiing or to dinner, there is no better place to stay. The inn itself is wonderful. Clean, cozy and Carol does everything possible to make sure you have whatever makes you happy. So there's that. But nothing compares to coming home after leaving your dog with a stranger to see that you pooch is totally happy and calm. Better? When you leave the next day and your creature spends the day with Carol, once again, your pup is happy to spend the day with her new best friend. So, there you have it. A great inn, wonderful innkeeper and a secure and happy place for your little beast!
