Very Disappointed with service and food today. Drove from Fredericksburg to come enjoy a nice meal only to be charged $20 for just a child to eat. Ordered hush puppies and a dozen chicken wings as our appetizer. The butter was rock hard. Asked for melted butter which never came as well as a refill that never came. The chicken wings where cold in the middle. When our food arrived the crab stuffed flounder wasn't even room temperature and the crab stuffed shrimp was lukewarm. When the chicken wings came out cold I initially thought it was the cook's fault. But as the evening went by our waitress mentioned our food was ready but it didn't bring our food out for several minutes. I also watched a cook bring food out and set it on the bar only for the waitress to take several minutes to take it to the table. Have to say not pleased about driving from Fredericksburg to Colonial Beach to spend $20 on 3 drinks, an order of hush puppies, Kraft Mac and cheese and a bun less hot dog. read more

CBVA doesn't have a large selection of seafood joints- so we decided to try this. Being in the midst of COVID, we decided to dine on the deck. We seated ourselves as instructed to do and it took them 10 minutes to come and bring a menu and gather our drink order. They had a great selection of soft drinks. Pepsi or Diet Pepsi.. It was just my husband and I and the restaurant wasn't really busy, so I didn't think it'd take but so long but I was wrong. Our food came out and I ordered a mixed drink and my husband asked for a refill. By the time we were both done with our food (we didn't eat it all b/c it was super heavy and greasy) - and waiting even longer (20 minutes in total!!!!) I told a different waitress (b/c ours didn't really come around much) to kindly let our waitress know I no longer wanted my mixed drink and we were ready for our check. read more

We stopped at the Riverboat for lunch yesterday. As we have numerous severe food allergies between us, it is often difficult, if not sometimes impossible, to enjoy a meal in this day of pre-prepared foods in restaurants. I must commend the waitress (who appeared to be working alone) and the manager, who questioned us extensively about the foods we could eat and how they could be prepared, and then communicated with the cook, returning to us to verify that the method of preparation would be acceptable. Overall, the manager spent nearly an hour with us to ascertain that our meal would meet our needs...and it did. Admittedly, it was the latter part of a Sunday afternoon, not much going on, but I have no doubt that these ladies would give the same attention to our needs should the restaurant be busy with in-season traffic. Went here as a child with my dad and took my fiancée to dinner here and both times I enjoyed myself definitely worth every penny.

My fiancé and I came Here for our anniversary and I really wish I had read these reviews beforehand! We walked in and to the left was a dingy depressing bar. A really nice woman greeted us and told us we could sit anywhere. So we walked all the way back onto the patio. It had a beautiful view of the water which we were thankful for because it took so long for the server to greet us and bring us our beverages. We ordered a shrimp appetizer and it was absolutely disgusting, There was a long hair tangled in one! Then our salads arrived and they were completely rotten, dry and wilted. I don't know why we stayed for the next event, but it was the prime rib. It tasted like it had been sitting out for days and the texture was like cardboard and it came with unseasoned canned corn, not worth the pricetag. As we were walking out, two men were saying it was awful and they were never going back. Needless to say, neither are we. read more

I took my husband and brother here for my husband's birthday for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. We had a lovely waitress named Olivia and she tried her very best to keep up with the crowd because two waitresses had called in sick. Unfortunately, and to no fault of her own, it seemed that things were not very well coordinated. Two meals were delivered to our table, but I had to wait another two minutes for my meal to be brought out because my baked potato was still in the oven, though my brother received his! Consequently, my husband and brother did not want to start their meal ahead of me, thus making their meals get cold. They are real gentlemen! The food was good but portions were not what one expected for the price. I had ordered the crab stuffed shrimp, baked potato and coleslaw. The four baked shrimp stuffed with crab were delicious but the shrimp were not as large as advertised, but they were very good. The baked potato was of average size. The coleslaw came in a small container. Over all, the meal was good for what we got, but the price was a little steep. The guys both ordered the small fried seafood entrée which consisted of a crab cake, decent sized flounder filet, baked or French fried potatoes. and coleslaw or the veggie of the day. The green beans were straight from a can! Will we return? Probably. But the Riverboat runs hot and cold. One never knows what to expect. Stay away! We had a reserved party of 25, so I understood that there might be a few hiccups in the level of service. However, they were understaffed (1 waitress for the entire party). When we received our food, which was about 45 mins later, the food was cold. It had obviously been sitting for a while as the cheese on our nachos was congealed and the meat on sandwiches was rubbery. We received our appetizers at the same time as our entrees. During the entire meal, we didn't have our drinks refilled even once. When we spoke to a manager, she proceeded to blame the spokesperson of our party for having more than 25 people (we only had 23!). It was a bizarre and unprofessional conversation. Just walking into this place makes you wonder, what am I doing here. It's really old and smelly. Looks dirty. We turned around and left.

Perhaps this place can pick itself up once Maryland legalizes Vegas style gaming. For now go for the cheap beer and great view from the balcony. The view from the main restaurant is tainted by a gross moose lodge style dining room. It's pretty bad. We had a couple ifems from the appitizer menu wich were ok. I liked the hush puppies and the crab balls were good but too cool. Go on a nice night, sit outside with a drink and you will have a good time. read more

The River Boat breakfast is horrible. I ordered sausage that appeared old and discolored. I asked the waitress to exchange the sausage for bacon. The bacon tasted like it was cooked in old grease. The toast was hard and taste bad. Their salads appeared limp and filled with salt. The River Boat is a place for gambling not dining:-( read more

We love the Riverboat! We have been there multiple times for breakfast - both off of the menu and the buffet. We have always enjoyed it and found the food to be very satisfying! We have also been to the Riverboat for a few drinks and to play Keno. We absolutely loved it and will definitely be back! We consider it a gem! read more

I've only visited here once during business travel but I'd go back. I had the Shrimp dinner, fingerling potatoes and corn. It was perfectly okay (3 stars). Corn was from a can. Tuesday is prime rib special night for $11.95. Both of my coworkers got it and said it was delish. (4 stars, hence the rating). We got the hush puppy appetizer to share (10 puppies) and Yuengling on tap while we waited. The kitchen stayed open late to serve us and the waitress was attentive. read more

My family and I went there on Monday and didn't know they closed at 7 PM and we got there at 6:40. They stayed open for us and offered the full menu. The waitress didn't hover like most would because she wanted to go home. The food was delicious and fresh, not just the leftovers that would've been tossed in the trash if not used. We've gone before on Sunday morning for their breakfast buffet and it's outstanding also. I don't know why all of these other Yelper's were so critical of an outstanding restaurant. Went there with my friend last weekend. We weren't greeted and had to seat ourselves, service was so slow and poor. It took 40+min to get our first drink and it was not busy at all, the waitress was nice but not very well trained, she forgot our silverware and forgot part of my order. It was a mistake going here for breakfast this morning as it was the most expensive continental breakfast I've ever had. Billing itself as a $10 all you can eat breakfast buffet it consisted of scrambled eggs like the ones served at every "breakfast included" hotel stay you've ever had. They had them plain or with what appeared to be ham mixed in. The biscuits, which I topped with sausage gravy (which was good), definitely were not homemade as they were beyond uniform and had the appearance of the Pillsbury freezable kind, the ones that come in a resalable bag. They had standards like breakfast potatoes, mixed fruit, bacon, sausage, etc. The donuts were store bought, the kind like Little Debbie you can buy in a box, as were the miniature muffins. For $10 I expected A LOT more, especially after having breakfast at Lenny's the day before. I got one plate, one cup of coffee and called it a day. read more

We hosted my parents' 50th wedding anniversary celebration there in the "Tiki Bar" room. The room was clean, bright and cheerful on a cold, Fall day. It is separated from the rest of the restaurant and it truly gave the feeling of a private party. The staff was a pleasure to work with during the planning phase and they allowed me the flexibility to choose my own menu. The service staff members were very pleasant throughout the entire party and diligently tended bar, cleared plates, replenished the food, served cake, and cleaned up. My parents were thrilled and our guests were full of compliments about the venue. As a hostess, I was very pleased with my experience and I would recommend this place to a friend. read more

Good service up until yesterday. Waited for over an hour and still no food. Two tables that came in after us and were served their food. When asked why, the server stated a large take out came in before our order put in. We paid for our drinks and left. This is unexceptional service and no compensation was offered. We went to the Riverboat two days ago for the Belmont race and had such a great time. The seafood was great and it was such a fun atmosphere with the triple crown. All the stuff was super accommodating even though it was so busy. Next time we're in colonial beach we'll definitely come back, especially to watch a big horse race. read more
