When your loved one is placed at Hebrew Home, whatever benefits your loved one is receiving goes to the nursing home (this is understandable). Hebrew Home will then place a $50.00 monthly allowance into a "personal account" for the resident for things such as haircuts, or for the purchase of other items/necessities that may be available through different vendors. BEWARE: In the event that your loved one passes away DO NOT attempt to claim any existing/leftover funds from your loved ones "personal account" directly from Hebrew Home. DO NOT tell Hebrew Home that the funeral has been fully paid for as they will send the funds from that "personal account" to the Public Administrator. Have the funeral home send an invoice to Hebrew Home and then have the funds distributed to you. When I tried to recover the funds from my loved ones "personal account", Hebrew Home told me that "by law" those funds had to be returned to The Office of The Public Administrator. Personally, I believe that "law" was designed to appropriate those funds. I now believe that this law was designed so that the city/county/municipality/state can stay with your loved ones money. Hebrew Home will never tell you this, but I will and I have. BEWARE....Where the law exists the trap or trick exists!!!

There is a strong sense of community and caring by both the staff towards the residents, and by the residents toward each other. There is always something interesting going on. I have had the opportunity to have lunch in the dining room. The food was extraordinary. Healthy and top quality. I have also taught 8n the Pavilion memory center wing of the Osborn. I have witnessed the lovely care and respect for the residents here too. The grounds are STUNNING. The interior is gorgeous and beautifully appointed. There is a distinct sense of grandeur at the Osborn. I have taught all over westchester for 20 years. Nothing compares to this magnificent place.

I have been a resident for a few months now and I highly recommend it. The location is extraordinary. It is on a quiet street, but two blocks from the hustle and bustle of downtown Flushing with its many stores and transportation options. Manhattan is an easy commute, just a 5-minute walk to the LIRR station and a 15-minute ride to Penn Station or Grand Central. I work part-time in Manhattan, and I've never had an easier commute! Queens College, with its plays and excellent musical offerings, is a quick ride on a nearby bus. Flushing Town Hall with its stellar jazz program is four blocks away. The beautiful Flushing Library is an easy walk, as is Macy's and one of the best pizzerias in Queens. Here at Flushing House itself, there are many interesting offerings - book club, language clubs, exercise programs, both domestic and foreign movies, and a lovely rooftop atrium that is open 24 hours a day. There are many food options at each meal and, once you realize all the choices you have ( on and off the menu) you can always find something you like. One can pick up meals and take them back to one's apartment, but the communal dining room has been a way for me to meet other residents and make the acquaintance of some lovely people. The staff is kind, hardworking and understanding with residents (even when a resident might be cranky!). My apartment is very sunny, clean, and comfortable, and weekly housekeeping is included. If you are an active older adult wondering what the next step in life should be, come to one of the frequent open houses that Flushing House hosts and see for yourself. I was just discharged from this shameful shameful sham of a rehab place. I'd had surgery and…read moreneeded a bit of PT before I went home. OMG, this was shocking it was so bad. I had to fight to get toilet paper, yes toilet paper. No one was on the same page. There were no universal processes so everything was CHAOS. You wait and wait and wait for even pain meds. Under staffed severely. I was "discharged" last Friday without knowing I had to do it myself. I had to call the nurse at the front desk to tell her I was leaving. No one ever told me this. OMG again, I almost lost the chartered car service waiting to take me home as this nonsense was so time consuming. AND worse yet, I was sent home WITHOUT my very vital meds (heart meds!!). I called and no one knew who could do anything. The meds were there and they were so stupid they couldn't possibly just call a messenger service or send someone to me (I live 10 blocks away). They did not call in any meds to my pharmacy. This just happened and I am now going into my 4th day of no heart meds. It is a disaster and disgrace. AVOID like the plague.

Also they have a very small waiting area and patients were walking up to check in and pulling down their masks without being told they had to wear them in a medical building. That is what troubled me the most. I actually had to step outside bc I did not feel safe in their waiting area, especially experiencing COVID symptoms. That is NOT SAFE for me or anyone else. Explaining the importance of MRHS is hard without a little history. Morningside Gardens was one of the first owner-occupied co-ops in NYC, and has about 980 units. Since it's development in 1957, the co-op has been home to many, most notably Thurgood Marshall, America's first African American Supreme Court justice, and formed the basis of the Mitchell-Lama law, which led to many similar co-operative housing facilities. Coming from mostly social work backgrounds, MRHS staff are dedicated to the residents and a newly redesigned space (paid for in part by capital funds requested by Assembly Member Daniel O'Donnell) ensures that residents have a clean, modern, and spacious place to hold events.
