I am genetically unequipped to deal with a Mac, and finally gave it up, returned to my PC with a cry of rejoicing, and decided to sell off my Mac bits and pieces. I don't know why I've always been best friends with every machine I've ever met, but the Mac -- oh, boy! Somehow we have no common meeting ground. Heavy sigh. So today I took my trackpad in to Riverdale Mac to make sure the thing's still working and that I can in good conscience sell it (that's how bad it is! I can't even tell if it works or not!) and Kieren looked at it for me, tried it out (yay, it works!) and even told me what would be a decent price to ask for it. They answer every question without making you feel like an idiot, even if, in this one particular small area, you do happen to be one...! read more

I asked at Riverdale Mac about a problem (well documented and fairly widespread) with my iPadPro Magic Keyboard no longer connecting to the iPad. Firstly the person at Riverdale Mac didn't know of the problem and seemed disbelieving that it existed. They were dismissive, condescending, brusque, and only offered a solution which meant buying more product. When I contacted Apple (who knew about the scale of the problem and immediately set up an appointment for me at Genius Bar in the Raton Centre) I was told that Riverdale Mac is not on Apple's list of approved stores. read more

Basically, if you have a brand new mac they might be able to fix it, but if your mac is dated at all, or if they don't feel like actually investigating the problem then they don't do anything but take your money from you.I went here because where I wanted to go was closed on a Sunday so I figured I may as well because it's closer to my apartment.They told me right away "this is a vintage mac (apparently 7 years old is vintage) and we likely can't fix it". Ok, so i understand as an authorized mac dealer they can't fix certain things on older macs due to regulations from Apple. I still decided to leave it there in case it was a simple issue. They charged me the consultation fee up front, somewhere in the $55 range. They called me the next day and said it was the logic board and there was nothing they could do about it. I asked if they knew any place that would fix it. They said no, they don't know of ANYONE in Toronto that can fix it.They didn't offer me any solution at all, not even a data transfer to a drive or anything. Just a "sorry doesn't work ok bye" kind of conversation. I had a feeling they just took me for my money, so as soon as I hung up with them I called a place called All About Mac. I told the guy who answered the phone there what had happened, what Riverdale Mac said and asked if he thought he could fix it. He said most of the time the problem I'm describing isn't the logic board, it is the power supply and he has a bunch of working parts he could put into it to see if he can get it working. That night I brought my mac all the way across town to get him to check it out. I put my mac down on the counter and he could tell right away that Riverdale Mac hadn't even bothered to open up my mac. He said if they did, there would be space between the frame and the monitor, it's a sure sign whether or not the mac had been opened up and not. I left the mac there and unlike Riverdale Mac, he didn't charge me up front. I got a call back from All About Mac the next day. Good news, the problem isn't the logic board as Riverdale Mac said it was. It was in fact the power supply which was fried (which is what i assumed because it happened during a blackout). I got him to fix it and went back the next day to pick it up. He told me his assumption was correct and Riverdale mac did not bother to open up my mac. He said there is foil on the inside and even the best mac technician in the world could not open the mac without slightly damaging this foil. He said if they had opened it the foil inside would have small ripples and wrinkles. He said it was still in perfect condition, therefore, it had not been opened. Professional proof that Riverdale Mac just basically stole my money from me. So basically, I paid Riverdale Mac $55 to hold my mac overnight, plug the power cord to a wall outlet, try to turn it on, couldn't, then decided, yep it's broken and we'll just tell her this is the problem when really we did no sort of investigating at all. I should have known nothing would have happened with my mac while I was waiting in line. Another worker was helping another customer buy a hard drive. The worker who was helping me asked the lady if she wanted her drive mac formatted. The lady said yes. The worker helping me looked at the worker helping said lady and asked him "do you know how to format a drive", the worker said no. So, the worker helping me took it and formatted it. Seriously? You work in a computer store and you don't know how to format a drive? That's computer 101. I should have walked out with my mac right then and there, but hey, hindsight is 20/20 right. I wouldn't suggest anyone, even with a brand new mac, go here. They charge double what All About Mac charges and clearly don't do much investigation into your computers' problem. If I could give them zero stars I would. I suggest you go to All about Mac no matter how far out of your way you have to travel. If I ever have a mac problem again with any of my apple products i will again travel across town and go out of my way to go to All About Mac. Again, I understand I had an older mac and due to Apple regulations an authorized shop can't fix certain things on older macs. But they could have at least opened up the mac and tried to investigate the problem without just assuming what the problem was (which they were completely wrong about). Instead of taking my money and my computer they could have just said no, sorry, it's too old, we probably can't fix it, we'd be wasting our time, your time and you're money. The guy at All About Mac said based on principal and fairness I should ask for my money back by bringing my now working "vintage mac" back to Riverdale Mac and say look it's fixed, you didn't open it, you didn't investigate it at all, you wrongfully assumed what the problem was and you basically just stole $55 from me. I decided to just bite the bullet, it's not worth my time to have deal with this terrible shop with terrible employees again read more

Don't waste you time at Riverdale Mac Snobs, if you have a Mac that is over 5 years old with a problem. One of my iMac screen went dark and when I took it into Riverdale Mac, they told me it was the video card and that I should just buy a new one. Not even a recommendation where to recycle the computer or anything, just junk I was told. Not a very environmentally-friend store. I took it to Clickon Mac Solutions 5 minutes away at 400 Eastern Ave and they gave me a bunch of options: a) 35$ and they will run a diagnostic, b) they will purchase the Mac and recycle the parts if it is dead, or c) for labour and parts, they will fix it for you. Four hundred dollars later and I have a repaired iMac just like new. Clickon Mac Solutions will be servicing all my companies Macs from now on. read more

These folks offer amazing customer service! I bought a computer from them and have been there twice for service issues, and each experience was excellent. They were incredibly attentive and explained things to me in ways that I could actually understand! Yesterday I went it - without an appointment - and asked for help clearing my MacBook Air computer so I could give it to my brother who was only in town for 2 days. It was very, very busy and I was treated very patiently and the service I got was amazing. They walked me through all the steps to clear my computer of my data and made sure I was satisfied before I left. It was an ideal customer service experience. While I was there I observed another employee assisting an older women with her Iphone. He was so kind and patient with her, it really made an impression on me. Thank you, Riverdale Mac! I would go no where else for sales of service for my phone or computer. read more

Came here after my computer graphics card died, I had done some of my own research and it was abundantly clear the graphics card had died and that this was an apparently common issue. (2012 macbook pro.) Brought it to the store, they had a techy check it out. He agreed it was probably the graphics card and was knowledgeable enough to mention that many 2012 15" macbook pro laptops have been recalled due to graphics card issues. He had obviously seen the issue before. He explained how it would be better to buy a new mac then replace the graphics card. He explained that since many macs have been recalled due to this exact issue, it was possible apple would cover it. However, in order to 'correctly' diagnose the problem, a $50 down payment is required. I was then called by a representative from the store who confirmed my issue. She strongly suggested I call Apple Care to see if they would cover the cost. [ After a few hours on the phone, Apple covered the cost. However - technically I shouldn't have been covered. The agent I spoke with from Apple Care arbitrarily said I would be, the entire cost of repair would be covered by Apple. Technically my model was not covered under the recall, but because he initially said it would be, the cost was covered. I know this because the Apple Care agent over the phone said exactly this. ] A representative from the store called me a short time later, letting me know all of the costs would be covered (roughly about $1500-2000 if you consider a complete replacement). Roughly 2-3 days later after Riverdale Mac had recieved the parts from Apple, I came and got my mac. It was basically a brand new computer. When going to pick up my computer, I had to ask for the refund of the $50 diagnosis fee. I shouldn't have had to ask for something simple like this. This is what makes the difference between a good business and a great business. -------------------------------------------------- I'm happy with the service I received and I believed they helped me save hundreds if not thousands of dollars. ------------------------------------------------- Sidenote: I will likely never by an Apple product again. Their products are overpriced, difficult to service, and offer little to no advantage. And after this experience, even though the customer service went well, it still isn't worth the price of their products (not to mention the problem happened less than 3 years in and at the absolute worst time.) Do yourself a favor - buy the ugliest, cheapest, dirtiest laptop you can, because it'll last twice as long and cost three times less. read more

I have made emergency visits to these folks for mac accessories when I am visiting Toronto and always have a great experience. They don't have a lot of stock but what they do have is carefully chosen and reasonably priced. For example, I needed a cable for my iPad because my OEM cable had frayed. They stocked the OEM cable but recommended a better-quality re-enforced cable that they stocked as an alternative that wasn't subject to the fraying problem and was cheaper as well. This place is much more laid back than the Apple Store and the folks here are just as informed. I will consider them when it is time to replace my MacBook. read more

Riverdale Mac was a calm and steady help when my computer crashed and I didn't know what to do. It took a couple of days for the assessment, but they were up front about that, and then the wonderful technician explained very clearly what had happened and what my options were. He was understanding when I asked for a little time to think them over. After I made my choice the computer was serviced and ready to go very quickly. Again, a lot of time was taken with my questions when I came to pick up the computer and they were very clear in showing me what to do to restore my computer and get it back in running order. Not impressed with the customer service of this location. I came in on the weekend for a product. After waiting about 10 minutes in the store i had to overtly ask someone to assist me ( I'm guessing my standing in the middle of the store is not evidence enough to be asked if i need assistance) They didn't have the item i wanted in store, but offered to order it for me and said it would be in by following Tuesday. I called on Thursday to find they never placed my order and lost my information. They kindly put a rush for an order from a different store, but ordered the wrong item. When i asked about the product i was informed they didn't even have it in their inventory. What a colossal waste of my time I thought going into the store would be convenient, boy was i wrong. read more

This is my first review on Yelp and I have decided to finally write one because of the OUTSTANDING service at Riverdale Mac. Serious. I accidentally drooped my Macbook Pro earlier this week - shame on me! - and was in dire need of assistance to see if it could be fixed. I live in the east end and decided Riverdale Mac was my best bet due to the location. Although, I had some reservations after reviewing some of the comments by others BUT I was quickly, if not immediately, put at ease. Kevin was humble, modest, and an expert at dealing with my anxiety AND quickly addressing the problem. My Mac went in on a Thursday and I had it back, running better than new, on Friday. Such timely service! AND, it bears repeating, Kevin made me feel less anxious about the whole situation by diligently answering all my inane questions (i.e. Am I gonna have to be a new one now?) with respect. Sufficed to say, I am Mac naive - not Mac illiterate and, yet, it was a scary thing to think that I could have just wrecked a ~$1500+ piece of equipment. Kevin responded appropriately and even with the right sense of humour. There is no doubt I will be going back and I suggest that anyone who may be in the same mess as myself visits Riverdale Mac, as well - especially if you live in the neighbourhood. I have taken my Mac for servicing at Riverdale Mac more than once. Service is fast (which I need as I run a design shop and I can't be without my Mac). They always take great care of me. Kevin Scott in service is the person I normally speak to. He knows his stuff. I have also been surprised on more than a few occasions by how competitive pricing is for peripherals and accessories. (Apple stuff is the same price as the Apple Store) I would have expected Best Buy or some other big box store to have lower pricing...but that has not been the case. read more

Dropped off my computer for a common butterfly keyboard repair, they held it for five business days only to say they couldn't repair it despite it being under warranty because of "dirt" which I would maybe get if they didn't send it back in provably worse condition, not just more keys being sticky, but one of them has had the clip damaged and now totally comes off altogether, really sleazy shady place. read more
