I have been going here for 7+ years. Dr. Lachhar is great and so is vet tech Connie. Judy is a groomer that offers services here. I have used her many times, she does a great job. I've fixed my cat here and done several standard exams both cat and dog. Prices are OK, seemed reasonable to me. Dr. Lachhar is funny and caring. Connie is hardworking. I always felt my animals were safe in their hands. Overall, I would recommend this vet clinic. However, there was a substitute vet there during my last visit, Daniel E. Grayson, DVM who was very unprofessional. I would be careful of him and would not recommend him. He was not nice to the staff, me, and my cat. He seemed out of his league--he made Connie read the chart because he couldn't figure it out. He told her "you tell me what shots the cat needs" (it was concerning to me that a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine could not read a simple chart. I saw the chart, it wasn't hard to figure out when my cat last got her shots), he was irritated and pompous, he was extremely rude to me for no reason, and he didn't seem to know where the vaccines were in the office (I get he was substituting but take a moment to gather your bearings before seeing clients, you're supposed to be a professional). He just didn't give me the impression he knew what he was doing. He examined my cat strangely, he pulled her neck up and tight all the way back to look at her teeth in a way I've never seen (worried me) and she looked very uncomfortable, he combed her hair hard pulling it out, and he went overboard on fat shaming her (I'll admit she is chubby but not obese, she's working on it and she's very furry). But he was really overly rude about it. He talked down to me the whole time. Most importantly, I had to leave abruptly before my cat got shots and blood work because my cat was so uncomfortable with him and he wouldn't let me comfort her (swatted my hand away from my cat when I tried to comfort her and lectured me about liability if I got bit, which was silly of him because I am a lawyer. Not to mention I know my cat much better than him). He was incredibly rude to me throughout the visit and he gave me bad vibes. I researched him and found he wrote an article about animal cloning--very strange in my opinion. It was about the benefits of saving your pet's DNA so you could later clone it. I won't go back after this encounter, even if he was a substitute it makes me question why he was allowed to come into the practice in the first place. He was very obviously highly unprofessional and not a nice person. Disappointed in the ending here after all these years, still have so much good stuff to stay about Dr. Lachhar and Connie, but moving on. read more

We recently adopted a cat from the shelter, we ended up in this "hospital" by default because it was close to home. The staff and the Doctor seem nice BUT he barely looked at our cat and just injected him with something and gave us medications. However, he never really took the time to explain to us what else we could do to avoid any problems or how to address current issues like how to handle our pet's obvious wounds. Suddenly we end up getting texts and calls for appointments we did not agree with. We took the bait and went for the 2nd time, but the issues were still not addressed. We finally realized that their "friendliness" is not really part of their good customer service. This experience is very disappointing for us first-time "furry parents." We are now seeing a different Veterinary Doctor who is more willing to explain what is going on with our "baby" and tell us how to prevent any future problems. We are even able to ask (a lot) of questions about how to take care of our baby. This is a better doctor than him. read more

This place goes out of their way to rob you! I brought my new pup in for shots- they did shots and exam, told us to come back in 3 weeks for a booster shot. We go in they have the shot checked my pups ears and weighed her and charged us for a exam! I told them she already had a exam 3 weeks ago they didn't care it was all about getting more money! So $130 later for a booster shot! They also tried to sell us a bunch of crap we can get for 1/3 the price! Don't go here unless you want to pay 3 times more than necessary! This clearly is their practice to way over charge ! Very very sad! They should be assumed of themselves for taking advantage of people like that! read more

Honestly they are terrible at getting in contact with, they're not cheap, they've quoted 2k for brushing my dogs teeth bc they wanted to knock him out to do it. Various other lil things that are so questionable as a vet place. When I board him there he comes back with a rash they said is from being stressed out but they didn't even know he had the rash... every single time. If I board my dog I have to pick him up by 5pm, he typically smells weird after being washed there... I just have not had any good experiences there over the last 9 yrs with my dog. When I get him bathed or anything, they call me after I'm almost home to tell me I need to come back and put a muzzle on him... I don't like going there but they're closest to me. Idk where they fall in pricing in relation to others but maybe they're still cheaper. You get what you pay for though. Currently very frustrated not being able to get a hold of them when I need to ... even though they're not supposed to be closed rn. Their hours are frustrating for me too. Do not bring your puppy or animal here! The amount of vaccinations they push in a short period of time is disgusting and should be reviewed. The fact that they try to charge you for things that you haven't had done to your done yet seems shady. Why would I pay for things for my next appt before the appt even happens? We specifically told the Doctor on our first visit that we only wanted the mandatory vaccines for our small dachshund. He seemed to understand and believed him. A visit that should have cost less than $100 was way more. (Since the visit was covered by the location we purchased her from) I began to grow suspicious and when we left I cancelled our next appt and spoke to the location we purchased the dog from. They said that we may have needed to caught up on mandatory vaccines and she may need one more. Well we made another appt and this time our bill was even higher. When we got to the car we noticed they charged us for things we didn't get. My husband went inside to ask and they told us it was all the stuff for that appt and the following one as well. They refunded us and we cancelled our next appt. After leaving we Go over the shot schedule and we realized they gave our dog one non mandatory vaccine. I called the location we purchased our dog from again and they said that seemed wrong and to ask to speak to the vet. No dog should be given any shots if the owner requests non mandatory vaccines not be administered. I called the Vet office and left a message to receive a call back. When the Vet called me he was very rude and refused to answer my questions. I asked over and over why he would give my dog a shot I told him I didn't want from the moment we met, he screamed stuff I could not make out and hung up. I assumed we were disconnected and called back since no respectable Doctor would refuse to answer why he administered vaccines that he was told not to give a puppy and no one would pick up. They are out to make money. He pushes way too many shots in a short period of time and gives unnecessary vaccines to small breed dogs that could cause more harm than good. There are plenty of good Veterinarians out there avoid this bad one. It's not worth your animals well being. read more

I bought my 15 lb 9 month old poodle there to be neutered. Thewound dehisced in under 48 hours with the hood on the entire time and the dog still rather lethargic from the surgery. This place wasn't opened on a Thursday morning so the pup had to go to an emergency place for dogs where they placed staples. I never heard from this place although the ER called them. They never called me and so 5 days later I called them and they had no concern as to what happened to the dog. Also they only gave him 5 doses of ibuprofen and 7 days antibiotics. People have told me they also got Gabapentin for their pets with this procedure. Could have made it a lot more comfortable for him. read more

My dog was abused before rescued, so he is very cautious about vets and often starts shaking the minute he gets inside the door, but here he allows the staff to hold him, as they are obviously caring and knowledgeable about how to correctly hold and calm down a dog. I appreciate they did not use a muzzle like in past with less experienced staff. I also like that the vet is thorough yet he does not do a lot of unnecessary practices as I have found a lot of vets price-gouge on the east end of L.I. The only thing I don't like is all the yukky photos all about the waiting rooms -- like closeups of ticks, parasites or worms which commonly prey on pets. Tho "an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure" or whatever, and I guess it is good to have those photos as it is educational. read more

Riverhead Animal Hospital - Back to being "Bouncer" after seeing Riverhead vet! - Veterinarians Near Me - Riverhead, New York

Dr. Lacchar is not a good doctor. He could not diagnose my cat properly after several visits, x-rays, antibiotics, ALOT OF MONEY and a referral to a specialty surgeon in plainview where he recommended getting a catscan done because he couldn't figure out what my cat's issue was. Her issue was ALLERGIES. He also charged me $60 for every visit, $160 for 2 x-rays and then charged me another $25 per x-ray when I needed copies to bring to the new vet. He hung up the phone on me when I tried to ask him for allergy medicine instead of the antiobiotic that didn't work and voiced my reluctance to bring her to a surgeon. The new vet properly diagnosed her with allergy medicine and she has been fine since. Also, the women at the front desk have an attitude when you call to set up appointments. The office is only open 8-12 most days and even though I informed them a couple times about their answering machine message sounding like a preschool when you first call, they still run the same message. They all seem very nice when you get there... but they keep reeling you in with follow up visits, mis-diagnosis and then bad referrals to surgeons where I would've spent even more money on unnecessary catscans and procedures. I'm actually happy that he disrespectfully hung up the phone on me which prompted me to take her to a specialty surgeon and I simply asked a few times about not going soo extreme yet, without trying allergy medicine first. I feel taken advantage of and like my money has been stolen from me with intentional continued misdiagnosis and referral to a specialty surgeon for what turned out to be simple allergies. Always a positive experience at Animal Hospital of Riverhead! Dr. Lachhar and his staff are always professional and compassionate. I recently allowed one of my cat's claws to grow so long that it grew into the pad. Stupid stupid me! I felt horrible and guilty. But the Veterinary Technician and Dr. Lachar treated my cat and clipped all of her nails and were kind and gentle and didn't make me feel worse for what had happened or the fact that I'm incapable of clipping this cats' claws. I had my puppy for just one week when one morning she started acting very strange and I felt she needed immediate help. I took her to a vet in wading river first where the vet denied helping my puppy because he said she was too sick. I quickly googled another vet to take her to and Riverhead Animal Hospital came up. I am so happy that I took my puppy here. The vet and staff were very kind and caring and helped my puppy right away. I called around 11:20am Monday for an appt. after a few days of my dog not eating well. Dr. Lachhar was going into surgery at 12pm. The receptionist said if I could bring her down before 12pm they would see her. I brought her right down. I have to say I didn't really think anything life threatening was wrong with her. I had just put down some pest killer outside a few days prior and figured she may have come in contact with some. But after a few questions and an examination Dr. Lachhar knew it was pyometra. He recommend an X-ray which we did and it showed her enlarged uterus, which he then drew blood to insure it was infected. The next morning he called me immediately with the blood results confirming his prognosis. He gave me two options (his recommendation) surgery, or antibiotics (which wasn't a guarantee cure). Since the antibiotics wasn't guaranteed to work and she needed to be spayed anyway I went with his recommendation. We scheduled the surgery for the following morning. Thank god we did, she was his 2nd worse case in the past 22yrs, she would of become septic if untreated probably and most likely died. Can't thank him enough! He was reasonably priced and the staff was so friendly and loving towards my Storm. Connie (I'm guessing his tech.) walked us out and made sure she got in my truck safely. I will only be using Dr. Lachhar from now on, since her current vet is on the more expensive side. I also noticed they clipped her nails and cleaned her ears at no charge. :) couldn't be more pleased with choosing them! read more

Please be careful here. I took my puppy eight weeks old to this vet for one puppy shot. He answered no questions, just took the pup and jabbed him with more then 3 shots, until he finally let out a scream of pain, for an extended time. I took the dog and left. After that he could not hold his urine for near 3 years. He has finally stopped uncontrolled urine. I would not use this vet ever again, he hurt the pup so bad. read more

Yelp made me give this place one star it deserves negative stars. I contacted this place for grooming purposes for my medium sized dog - bath, cut, ears and nails the regular grooming practice. Asked about pricing and was told $50-60. Receptionistsinquired as to current vaccines and I told her my dog was current and under the care of Mattituck-Laurel Vet. Needed to bring proof of same as well as a stool sample- for a bath? Nevertheless, I took my dog and proof of his vaccinations and upon entering was required to fill out forms seeking my social security # and driver's license. Then we were taken to a room whereupon the vet and his assistant proceeded to exam my dog and inquire about the stool sample. Again, for a bath? Talked about performing a kennel cough exam and when I stated I was just there for grooming, was told I wouldn't be charged for the exam. Really, all this for a shampoo and cut? After being told to reclaim my dog in two hours, I was confronted with a bill for $108.00. When I asked why, the receptionists and The Professional, i.e., doctor became combative along with a total stranger who was visiting the receptionist decided to chime in as well. Reluctantly, I paid the ransom and stated they would never see me again to which Doctor replied, GOOD!!! So, so professional and a stellar businessman! No wonder the waiting room is empty.
