After hiking all afternoon at the Dinosaur Valley State Park, I earned myself a nice meal and I found a great place to have one. Just a couple blocks off the town square in Glenn Rose, this restaurant is situated in an old restored house. The ambience, the food, and the service were great, even though I wandered in about 40 minutes before closing. It was a pretty straight forward meal (salad, bread, fillet, mashed potatoes, and vegetables) but they were well done and tasty. Only downside for me was the limited beer selection (not even any local craft beers) but perhaps that is the result of this being a dry county and their options consequently are not great. But that's a minor consideration in the grand scheme of things when the meal is that good. I'll be back to this place next time I am in town, and you should find your way here, especially after working up an appetite by hiking. One recommendation to my server, Nick: if you pour a beer with a huge head on it, you probably you should ditch it and have someone pour you another one. read more

The lovely front porch has seating and is perfect to enjoy lunch on a perfect day. We arrived for dinner without reservations. Kelly, the delightful owner was able to seat us in the cozy back room near the bar. It was private and just perfect for the two of us. This place fills up fast so reservations are suggested. My husband had the Voodoo Shrimp pasta and is still raving about it. I had the Wedge Salad and Kelly made some helpful snd yummy accommodations for my dietary needs. It was perfect. Should you find yourself in Glen Rose, the Riverhouse Grill is a must. Make sure you reserve a room at the Inn on the River, just across the street. Waitress added gratuity to the check at 20% and did not let anyone at our table know. We ate there on the way home from camping at Dinosaur Valley SP. we left on a Wednesday and were surprised to find so many restaurants closed that day. Riverhouse Grill was one of the few (besides fast food) that was open midweek. Having said that, my food was delicious (I got a mushroom Swiss burger sans bun and since I am on the keto diet, they let me change out the fries for tomato basil soup. It was actually the best TB soup I have ever eaten. Kudos to the chef. My husband got the regular cheeseburger and he loved his, too. Our grandsons ordered the pasta marinara and ate every bite (ages 5 and 6). We ate outside since it was a beautiful and cool day and it was wonderful. Great food and service! It was alright. I had the smoked turkey panini and hubs had the Riverhouse grill cheeseburger and we both subbed the fries for the Parmesan Garlic Truffle fries. Not worth the $3 upgrade. Overall, the food was slightly warm at best and we were underwhelmed for the price. Our server was very nice and attentive but not overly attentive. The food here was good. The prices were middle of the road, a little bit on the expensive side for the size of the portion, but cooked well, seasoned well. I guess my biggest complaint would be that even though this is a smaller venue, the wait staff seemed very rushed and hurried a little absent minded when it came to your orders, they were attentive to a degree, but the hostess staff kind of had a not my job mentality which was a little offputting. Other than that the food was good it was seasoned well and it was a cozy environment, so yes I would recommend it because it is a nice little out of the way place. read more

We were in town staying in a B&B after hiking at nearby Cleburne State Park! We were so ready to get out of the hustle & bustle of Dallas, and this was such a nice change of pace. We were recommended this restaurant by our B&B owner, as it had good food and a nice patio. Javier was our waiter and he was very attentive. We tried the special Prickly Pear Margarita which was not too sweet, and pretty strong. We also had a long island iced tea, which definitely was very strong, you get your money's worth. They have a pretty extensive wine/bubbles menu as well. To eat, we started with the Cesar salad. It was so good! You can tell that the dressing is homemade. Honestly if they had a dinner portion of it, I would've gotten that. I ordered the Cajun pasta (with blackened chicken instead of shrimp), and my fiance ordered the Filet Dinner. We shared the truffle fries and those were definitely the highlight! Such a great value for the quality and portion size of the food you get. The only downside was the flies!! There were soooo many outside, they were kind and brought a fan out, but they would not leave us alone. read more

Found this place while we were visiting yesterday. Made reservations for dinner as they were recommended and we were bringing our 2 yorkies and needed to sit out on the front porch. Started with the Garlic Dipping Oil and the Monterrey Jack Queso. Both were good. The bread for the dipping oil was hot and fresh. The queso came with too many chips, but better have extra than not enough. The made our dogs plain grilled chicken breasts and the dogs loved it. They even asked if we needed a water bowl for our dogs. We ordered the Baked Salmon, Cowboy Chicken and the Sirloin Filet with blue cheese sauce. All came with fresh vegetables and all plates were empty when finished. Good portions and good food. Ended with the creme brûlée that was also very good. Service was very friendly and great. We weren't rushed, timing was spot on. When we visit Glen Rose again, we will definitely go there again. read more

I give the Riverhouse Grill an A for ambience, B for food. The restaurant's in a huge, gorgeous old house with a big wrap-around front porch. If the weather's nice, a table for two on the porch makes for a very pleasant al fresco dining experience. I started with a house salad, whch was tossed in a citrusy vinaigrette dressing. The flavor was crisp and refreshing, and complemented nicely by a glass of sauvignon blanc. By the way, because of local liquor laws, you'll need to join a "private club" to enjoy a glass of wine - which is as easy as presenting your photo ID and $2. For dinner I had the baked salmon with rice pilaf. The salmon was properly done and doused in a light sauce that I"m told was wine-based. This dish was solid, although not reeally remarkable. I also grabbed a shareable side of the gouda mac and cheese. The sauce was rich and delicious, but unfortunately the pasta was a bit overcooked and lacked firmness. I thought the prices were fair. If you order salads and a side dish, you can probably get away with sharing a main dish. The restaurant will plate each person's portion separately for a modest fee. Overall, I'd recommend Riverside Grill for a nice dinner experience, especially in nice weather. read more

Stopped in on the way to Dallas. This place is great!! Soothing jazz, big high ceilings and a full liquor license in a dry county the place itself is a renovated home with a lot of charm. Everything came out perfectly. Had the wedge salad and salmon w fresh veggies and cilantro rice. Only thing I would change is red onions on the wedge instead of white. Service was great too. What a wonderful Reataurant in Glen Rose! The home is a Sears kit house from 1903. We were here with 5 teenagers to celebrate a 14th birthday. The service atmosphere and food were fantastic! We had the spinach artichoke dip to start and a couple of us had Cesar salads. Both were great. The pork chops were outstanding and many in our table had chicken piccata which was delicious. For dessert we had one of each. ...Everyone loved the bread pudding. The least fav was the chocolate cake. Dustin was a terrific server and we all enjoyed the night! read more

Omg! So tonight my husband and I came for our anniversary dinner. There was a small wait but it was so worth it! We decided to get an appetizer of Smoked Gouda with bacon and jalapeños! We were given fresh homemade rolls to begin while we waited for the yummy goodness. Let me tell you the Smoked Gouda was so creamy and had such amazing flavor I just wanted to take the bowl and hide in a corner. I literally had to stop eating it so I could eat my dinner. I decided to get the Sirloin Steak and my husband got the pork chops! When the food came it was so pretty that I almost didn't eat it but I dived in. The steak was juicy and had great flavor. The mashed potato and vegetables were fresh and you could tell the potatoes were homemade because they had some lumps of potato in them. Now my husbands pork chop was very good even for a person like me who doesn't like pork! So after all that the owner came to us and offered us a dessert for our anniversary! Creme brûlée or chocolate chip peanut butter bread pudding! We will take both! Let me tell you I am not a dessert fan but this made me a believer! So fresh and yummy! We visited Riverhouse Grill recently during a weekend trip to Glen Rose. It is a cute little place and maybe our expectations were too high after reading all those reviews or maybe the kitchen was just having a bad day but we found everything that we ordered to be below our expectations! The whiskey sour (for me) and the wine (for her) were ho-hum. It is hard to go wrong with tomato bisque but it was too salty and a tad too creamy. The chicken Marsala was, well, like an average chicken Marsala. But the disaster of the night was 'Italian' flatbread. It was overloaded with some sort of melted American white cheese, a few stray pieces of sun dried tomatoes and that's about it. The tragedy was that the underlying bread was actually quite ok and I would have been better off just eating the flat bread with no toppings. Dessert did nothing to brighten the evening either. Which was surprising because I love Creme Brûlée. However, it came in a large, oval dish which made the presentation weirdly unappealing (compared to how the dessert is traditionally served - in a small, round dish). And the large surface area had an added negative effect of sugar crust getting almost cold by the time it arrived on our table. I'm sure Glen Rose has better culinary options. read more

Outstanding service and excellent food! We were in town for a special occasion and Riverhouse Grill was recommended as a good spot for a nice dinner. I spoke with the owner about dinner and he was so accommodating to get us what we needed to make it PERFECT for our anniversary meal. The steak was excellent, the cajun shrimp was full of spice but not overly "spicy," and I was thrilled to find port wine on the menu to complement our dessert! This place is in an old house--great atmosphere and decor. The rolls are top notch, especially when fresh out of the oven. My waitress was great too--attentive without hovering. She warned me right away that they were out of several dishes and that there would be about a 20 minute wait for the food. I didn't mind because she was up front about it (plus she brought extra rolls to tide me over). For the price, I expected a bit better quality. I ordered the steak with fresh veggies and mashed potatoes. The steak was mediumish rather than medium rare and a little on the tough side. I would have preferred more veggies than potatoes, rather than the other way around. The potatoes were good but a bit heavy in the tummy. I also got a side salad but it turned out to be some shredded romaine with a few shredded carrots, a couple of tomato slices, and one slice of cucumber all drowning in house dressing. I don't know why I thought it would be on the river. Food- it was just okay. The person I was with raved about the mushroom soup. It really wasn't like "wow this shits good" and more like "humm interesting." Atmosphere: the house is beautiful. I love the front porch & the antique touches. Staff: Really sweet & I think did a decent job. They close for a few hours between lunch & dinner & I guess we made the cut off but sadly they sent away two groups of people who came after us which I thought was was kind of sad for the people but even sadder for the restaurant bc I thought to myself "that was a good $100-$150 bucks lost & most likely people who won't come back & most likely will complain to their friends they were sent away which leads to another 10 customers not coming."
