7/31/26 Delicious special. My bf Anthony has blue cheese burger and I had the special Turkey on croissant with onion rings

I had an "interresting" morning....compliments of Cheyl's Diner. I am a trained military explosives expert- however " the type of Explosives I am referring to here is NOT a quality ANYONE would hope to have to deal with- and very much warrant an honest YELP review, warning, or an I told you so. Yes,That bad. A skimpy ration of what they put between the rye toast and the disgusting over pricing - I gladly welcome vs. the "effects" of it on the human body. The rudeness, teribble service, and ignorance of the owner, and staff there goes right along with the effects of what happens afterwards. I would appreciate it if I were issued a T- shirt reading " I survived Cheryl's Diner" to serve as fair warning to those who are not aware. I believe in supporting the "Mom & Pop" establishments in our communities, but I would have to bet that "Pop" suffered and exited - after dining in this place. This would be a perfect target for Chef Gordon Ramsey to visit. Can't imagine the horror he'd find in the walk in freezer. Needless to say, If given the choice- I would choose military MRE's over this futile attempt of actually considering this place a " Diner". The loud gossip between the waitresses should have been enough of an indicator to leave. The results of the effects on the human body after eating there though, will assure that I will NEVER return. Actually, I feel it's only fair to warn others of the results of this poor choice. I would seriously consider beginning a "fast" to going through all that again. I'd love to admit I am exaggerating- were that the case. If they have " negative" grades on rating the "cuissine"- This place is a banner reason why. I can only offer my appology to my date, and fair warning to any who consider eating there. I would go onto the lack of cleanliness of the restrooms- but I am truly ready to simply let the memory of the place fade, and become an automatic warning to avoid it at all costs in the foreseeable future. If I had to sum it up on one word, I rekon "Disgusting" would do. read more

Service is not like it used to be. So slow and no one seems to care. We used to come here all the time when we visited. Not anymore. Servers were literally arguing with each other instead of taking our order or picking up the food when ready. We were one of two tables. We thought it was odd so went back for breakfast - same thing. Two tables again and no one even said hi. Took a while to take our order because servers were chatting with each other. Food was just ok. Is as good. We wondered why it isn't packed anymore. Now we know. It is a bummer. read more

Worst eggs Benedict on planet earth and didn't tell us they're gonna charge 1.50 if I switch out the ham for spinach

Food was really good. We came to see the national forest/100 trails and on our way back down we were hungry and we found this diner! We believe the food was pretty good and the service was good too. They had good music and good ambiance. Definitely recommend. read more

Breanna and Lori made for a delightful brunch experience. We opted for one plate of breakfast, the combo. Perfect pancakes, eggs and bacon! Bonus to the customer that gave a slice of his bacon to our dog!!! There are options for dining inside and outside over a covered patio. I had the grilled chicken salad. The homemade blue cheese dressing was excellent. I'd skip the olives, the salad didn't need them. Nice place, cute ambiance, worth a visit for some nice mountain hospitality. read more

Great service and amazing breakfast! Ambience was very welcoming and my group enjoyed the old-timey look.

As soon as we walked in, the environment from the waitresses did not feel welcoming. We felt stared down and judged. No hello, no smiles, no kindness. We are a Hispanic family and we hope this treatment has nothing to do with our race... While we waited to be seated, a few new customers came in and were seated before us. We felt overlooked and disrespected. At the end we chose to leave this horrible restaurant and go across the street to an amazing cafe called Sequoia mountain bakery! read more

This place is a must if you're in Kernville. We ordered a Turkey and Bacon sandwich and a Patty Melt with fries. It was all so delicious and we have a special treat, Cheryl on the piano playing patriotic songs. It was a wonderful experience. read more

Stopped this diner for the first time. Our waitress Judy was amazing. She took the time to explain all the specials we received our food. Delicious hot tasty. Amazing. Will definitely come back. You must try the desserts. The pies are off the chart. read more

After staying at a nearby campground, decided to stop with the family for a bite on our way out of town. 10ish on a Sunday morning. We waited briefly and were seated. The lady that seated us was very friendly and upon passing out the menus reminded us that, "although crepes are on the menu, we no longer carry them" (Remember this tidbit, it will make more sense later) Very slow morning both in business and in service. Waited patiently before our drink order was taken, and even longer before it arrived. Eventually placing our order I eyed a local favorite, the French dip. It's Kernville, I get it. It's a slower pace of life up here, but my goodness...Life will literally pass you by in this diner. Several moments later everyone was served but the waitress had bad news for me, she was "unimpressed with the quality of the meat" and let me know that the cooks are going to try again OR she'll return the menu and I can order something else. No big deal and thank you. I actually appreciate her refusal to serve a sandwich that falls below her standards. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, they couldn't get it right and instead I ordered a Reuben from the "special sandwiches" section. While waiting I tried my daughter's biscuits & gravy. Very ordinary but the gravy tasted slightly sweet. I honestly couldn't get past the slight sweetness to enjoy them. I also tried the chicken strips and, while the chicken was tender and juicy, it also had a hint of sweetness that I just didn't care for. A short time passes and more bad news...The kitchen doesn't have any sauerkraut ‍ Okay okay, stay cool. Another menu, another sandwich. At this point everyone is just finishing their meal and I'm again choosing another alternative. Turkey & bacon club. Ehh...It could be that I was just happy to finally be eating or just an ordinary sandwich but either way it got the job done, nothing special. I will say that the waitress was very sincere and even comped my meal for the inconvenience. The damage? 66$! Mind you I had 2 small children that both ordered the exact same thing (chicken strips & fries) 3 drinks, and even though they comped my meal they also still had the the nerve to give themselves a pat on the back in the form of a 20% gratuity?! You've got to be kidding me Cheryl. Here's a tip, if you don't have the ingredients or can't fill an order, then take it off the menu. read more

We were here yesterday and Kernville was a very busy place, there was some type of Halloween festival going on across the street at the park. They sat us down at a booth in the back very quickly. We were bought drinks and ordered cheeseburgers and a club sandwich. Food came out fairly quickly, especially considering how busy they were. The cheeseburgers were good, served with a very good potato salad, but the club sandwich was excellent. It was huge and everyone had a section, the bacon and turkey is very good on this sandwich. Service was prompt and friendly. If you are a fan of club sandwiches by all means try this one. It is not my favorite sandwich but I may order it here. read more

Great spot for breakfast near Lake Isabella & Kern River Camp Grounds. The eggs Benedict were fantastic, the pancakes were also very tasty. The coffee did taste a bit funky, and the OJ was mid. First and foremost the food was awful. My husband and I ordered a burger medium rare. The patties were super thin and way over cooked. I asked for coleslaw and received fries as my side. They didn't have a salad as an option as they ran out. Hmmm... I won't go back. read more

Once again, Cheryl's Diner does not disappoint! We had a big family group and there was plenty of space for us all in the back. We ordered the combo appetizer with fried mushrooms, zucchini, jalapeño poppers, and cauliflower-- all fried and delicious. We ordered a variety of entrees from burgers to an open-face hot beef sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy, and crispy chicken sandwiches to taco soup and onion rings for the table. Everything was fresh, hot, and delicious. Our servers were friendly, professional, and very attentive. Definitely will be going to this place when I am in Kernville. Enjoy! read more

Built in 1985 family owned business the mom is 80 years young and the daughters are running the restaurant now dad passed last year so they are keeping the legacy going. Biscuits and gravy are homemade and taste delicious the biscuits melt in your mouth and the heaven is creamy and are heavenly. Cheryl diner is filthy dirty! The people that work there are so gross and smelly it's disgusting. The uniforms are so dirty and the shoes are so greasy and unwashed as well as a dirty floor all around the place. Horrible greasy food anymore not like it used to be when Cheryl had it years ago. So sad to see this place will run down and filthy. I would never eat there again it was my favorite place for a burger and a piece of pie never again! It's not that difficult to make diner food. This isn't like we're looking for a Michelin star meal. It's a diner. So when you order a HAM sandwich and you're given a turkey sandwich you would expect more than just having your lemonade comp'd. Yes... not once was an attempt made by the green haired waitress to actually give us a HAM sandwich (which was what was ordered and what we were charged for). No.... she just pretended to yell at the 'cook' but never gave us what we ordered. Then she pretended that comping us a drink (which in reality really costs about a $1) is going to make us forget that the internet exists for a reason and that reason is to let others know what kind of real service you can expect here at Cheryl's. There is an honest reason why this place has so many one star reviews. And there's also a reason why the owner of this place simply doesn't care/ doesn't do anything to make the customers (who pay for her livelihood) happy. The reviews are here for a reason. Our guess is the reason the owner doesn't care is because she gave up a loooooong time ago. There are other places to eat in Kernville. Heck, the fried chicken and twice baked potatoes at the grocery store are 1000 times better than what you can order here. We stopped by for brunch while hiking in the area, and were all very happy with the experience. When we got there they were busy, and quoted us a 45 minute wait . We took advantage of the time , and visited shops across the street. I really thought the portion sizes were a good value for the money . My only complaint is that I was dining with another couple, and the only option was to split the check down the middle . They said we had to let them know up front to separate by couple . read more

This is what I can't stand about restaurants today! Explain to me why restaurants stop caring about the quality of the food you make and ingredients. I understand the cost of everything has gone up, but why do you make sub par food! Home style potatoes terrible. Microwaved potato then thrown in a pan and half burnt half dried out all peppers and onion burned, over medium egg well done on one side, biscuits and gravy not good. Nothing was homemade all frozen or packaged it's just sad we're all supposed to just bend over and accept high prices and sub standard food I'm done eating out. From out of town just wanted an early dinner, it's pretty pricey everything is about 14 dollars or up. The food was so good the patty was cooked perfectly. And the salad was so refreshing. The iced tea SO GOOD! The fries were crispy! The service was go good we loved our waiter talking to her for a while she was so nice. There were a lot of dead flies by the window (inside by the booths) that's gross.. no one wants to see that while they eat. They need to clean them off.. read more

Food is always delicious. The waitress's are always pleasant. It's a nice home town feel atmosphere.

A bit pricey for that kind of food but location explains. Food was good enough, big portions, OUTSTANDING customer service. So friendly and funny waitresses You gonna like the old ambience there! This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. From the moment we arrived, hygiene and sanitation were appalling. Staff were eating at the front, and I even saw someone spit while eating. At one point, floor broom trash was poured directly into a plate container--absolutely disgusting. The servers handled silverware by the tops with their fingers, and their attitude was just as bad as the cleanliness. They were unfriendly the entire time, and when we politely made an excuse to leave (we said there was a family emergency out of courtesy), they mocked us with comments like, *"Who wants food staff they don't want it,"* while giving us smug looks. Overall, the environment felt unsanitary, the staff were rude and unprofessional, and we left feeling uncomfortable and disgusted. I would never recommend this place to anyone. read more
