Today, the staff at Riverside Automotive Repair were presented with one of the most unique scenarios they will likely ever be tested with. Did they pass the test? A little background: a week ago, my disabled wife and I were contacted by our dear friend who said that she was at the eye doctor. Her vision in her good eye was suddenly fading, and she had rushed in for an appointment. While at the appointment, her vision went black. She could see nothing. We scrambled to get to her as fast as we could. She received emergency eye surgery the next morning. Our friend happens to be the sole caregiver for her aged mother, so, we moved both of them into our home and worked and struggled to care of both of them, our young family, and our medical issues. Exhausted is a grand understatement. Today, a little over a week after her surgery, her vision has not improved. They are contemplating another surgery. After a rough night of taking care of two adult patients, and three children that had trouble sleeping, I stayed with the kids while my wife took our friend to her fourth eye appointment in seven days, just to find out that they aren't sure if she will ever regain her sight. When they got back to the car, the unthinkable happened. It wouldn't start. I got called in to save them, though none of the kids were dressed or had eaten yet, I raced and got us dressed, grabbed a few snacks and drinks, and jumped in the van off to the rescue. And then something even more exciting happened, something I had worried about. Our across the street neighbor has been re-roofing, and much of the debris was in the road over the last several days, and according to the alarm on my dashboard, one of those roofing nails had found its way into my tire, and my tire was going flat. Of course this would happen at the same time I was off to rescue my wife and friend from their predicament. I hoped I would get there before they had burnt to a crisp waiting in the car that would not start. I was so relieved when I realized that Riverside Automotive Repair was a block away, and when I pulled up I saw the word written in bold on the building that was my deliverance, "TIRES". I pulled up to the front door, rolled down the windows for the kids, made two steps into the building and exclaimed, "I have an emergency! My wife is stranded with my friend who just went blind. Their car won't start, and I am on the way to rescue them, but I just found a nail in my tire, and it is going flat. They are sitting in the hot car, and I have my children with me. Can you please take a moment and repair the tire?" Without missing a beat, the front desk worker responded immediately with the words no one would never imagine to hear in a dire situation such as this: "We don't have time. You would have to have an appointment." My head sunk, almost in tears I turned around and walked out. The worker stood and followed me out for some reason, continuing to tell me that they can't help us in our emergency. I got in the van, and drove a few feet into the shade to see if I could figure out how to access the spare. I have never had to get to the spare in this vehicle before. I watched as the worker went to the three or four mechanics in the shop, a glimmer of hope, maybe one of them would be sympathetic to our situation and come to our aid. Alas they did not. I sat in the parking lot for about 10 more minutes. I discovered that my van had a pump, so I pumped up the tire and prayed that I could make it to my wife and friend. In a genuine emergency, something that would have taken 10 minutes to repair, we were denied the basic human decency and even the slightest bit of help. We had a fantastic experience at this repair shop. We were on a road trip and our vehicle broke down at the gas station next door. The guys stopped what they were doing and took the time to come over and look at our vehicle. They gave us a clear and honest diagnosis as well as expected wait time and cost. They squeezed us in even though they clearly had a high volume of vehicles at their shop. The delivered on exactly what they said they would do and had us back on the road in a couple of hours. I've taken my older car to them several times now, and they've always been quick and on-time. Even for major repairs I've never waited more than 36 hours for my car, and they're often done same-day. They've never recommend a service that I didn't need. If something is critical and needs to be addressed, they'll say so; and if it's not, they'll still make a recommendation, but won't pressure me to do anything about it. I won't say their labor rates are the lowest around, but they're within reason and merited by their expertise, experience, and customer service. Professionals deserve to be compensated like professionals. If you want shadetree rates there are other options in town you can take your chances with. I'd prefer to stick with people who deliver consistently top-notch service. Riverside Automotive checks that box for me. read more

Not from the area but desperately needed a repair shop. On our route we unfortunately struck a deer and it bent our front end so badly we couldn't make it home. I had no idea where to look so I called Riverside Automotive and within minutes was relieved to know they could help. Brandon and his crew were effective, to the point, understanding of our urgency and got us taken care of accordingly. What would have been a nightmare being stuck 100s of miles from home turned in to an appreciation I can't even express fully. Thank you a million times. We were on a road trip and we're headed north out of Las Vegas. 117 degrees and our van's Air Conditioner stopped working! Luckily we were staying in St George, UT and we found Riverside.. I gave them a call the next morning and they told me to bring it over, and they repaired the Air conditioning system completely that same day and we were on the road again the next morning with ice cold AC! read more

I went in for an On the Spot registration renewal. I called before going in to see if they offered that service. Upon arrival, they charged me a fee that wasn't disclosed or posted until after they ran my card. It should have been mentioned on the phone or when I arrived. He was very rude about it and gave me a poorly printed registration paper, which should have also be mentioned - that their printer was out of ink. I had to ask it be emailed so I could print it myself. For their fee for their service, they should provide what their fee is even for - including a legible registration paper. I'd not recommend this place. read more

I had a crack in my oil filter housing unit, called and spoke to a very nice man who said he is very familiar with the flaw and fixes dozens of dodges a year for same issue. I scheduled appointment for later in week and next day he called me offering me an earlier appointment. I agreed and the car was fixed in within the time he quoted and the price was good. On Saturday, Oct. 20, 2023, I had a problem with my bumper. After running atop a parking bump, something under the front bumper came apart. At 8:15 a.m. I pulled up to the garage and Brock came out to see what I needed. I explained, and he looked under the front bumper and found that I needed to have a plastic plug pushed back in, and one other was missing. He went to the toolbox, found a plastic peg, installed it, and I was on my way. I was so happy he helped me as I was coming from California to Salt Lake. My niece's Ford Explorer was giving her problems, Brandon and his team spent considerable time trouble-shooting the problem, and making the repair. Although she experienced overheating from her Ford, Brandon did not attempt to sell her a new water pump ($1,900.00), he indicated that it may have been an oil leak only. He spent all of Saturday (well after the shop closed) working on my car, and coordinating with me, and what felt like every auto part store in the try city area, to get the part I needed and get me back on the road as soon as possible. We were on vacation in Utah when the rear shocks on our Acura RDX collapsed, we were on a tight schedule with hotel reservations and had to get back home in time for work later that week. We needed a shop that had the parts we needed, was on our route, and could fit us in on our schedule, and Riverside Automotive met all those requirements and more. Very friendly and flexible, they were able to order the parts and although they open at 8AM said they really showed up around 7:30, I showed up at 7:20 and they were already there, got our car in right away, had it fixed and test drove in a little over an hour, and we were back on schedule. I was on a road trip with my jeep wrangler in the north rim of the Grand Canyon crossing over to Ely Nevada to look at old mine sites when the jeep started acting up. I called Brandon at Riverside Auto and he said he could look at it the next day if I brought it in. After having it towed arriving about 3PM, Brandon had his team immediately look at it and by 5 let me know my options. He could not directly diagnose the problem because it was intermittent but said it was probably my fuel pump failing. I had talked to my normal mechanic in San Diego and he had also said it was probably the fuel pump. Brandon was up front and said he could not guarantee that the fuel pump was the problem but was likely the issue, so it was my gamble to take, or he could try testing it more the next day to see if it would fail. I took the gamble and replaced the fuel pump. He prioritized me the next day knowing I was traveling and passing through. He had the Jeep ready to go by 12 the next day and I was back on the road, losing only one day on my trip schedule. The fuel pump was the issue and the jeep ran great afterwards. Getting such quick one-day service was amazing. You don't see this in big cities like San Diego. read more

I am from NC and was having problems with an fluctuating coolant temps. After spending nearly a grand at various other repair shops, I finally limped it into Riverside. Was told I needed a head gasket, then a milled head (with no available machine shop for a week). So they sold me a remanufactured head. Had me on the road the next day! Very friendly bunch, and worked me right in. However, I am a little leery. Tried to sell me a water pump, tune-up, and I cant even remember the rest of the list. Told them no, and I am now making my way back across the desert eastward. I check my oil and coolant every day. Had driven over 4000 miles up to that point; my Jeep uses no oil. One day with them and it is a quart low Called to find out they only put in 5 quarts, instead of the required 6 (4.0 liter inine six). Have to wonder now...but so far, so good. read more

While moving from Carson City, NV to Chattanooga, TN, our car overheated about 100 miles out into the desert. We managed to get it cooled down and into Riverside in St George. The guys at the shop were awesome. We ended up finding that we had a cracked head along with a slew of other problems and it would cost more to fix than the car was worth. We ended up junking the car to them at a fair price and when they overheard us talking, they helped us get a discount on a rental car. After everything was squared away, we needed a way to get our cargo back to the hotel (remember that we packed to move) and one of the guys there was nice enough to take us and our belongings back to the hotel. They definitely made a terrible and stressful experience a lot easier to handle. read more

A great repair shop with highly professional and conscientious employees! Brandon and Jeff didn't have to help me, but understood my dilemma and did whatever they could to help me. I'm from Kentucky and while driving the scenic route at Zion National Park on a Friday evening, all of the vertical welds holding my very heavy RV rear bumper upright broke allowing the bumper to tilt down about sixty degrees from its upright position and only inches from dragging on the ground. The horizontal welds held and was the only reason the entire bumper didn't completely disengage from the truck. The RV was undrivable and so, I had it towed all the way back to St. George to Riverside Automotive because it is one of the only auto shops open on Saturday and because of all the great reviews I read. I met Brandon when he opened the shop early Saturday morning and asked him if he could take a look at the bumper and if someone could jack the bumper up and weld it into place. Although the repair shop had a full schedule, limited personnel and the shop only open for a half day, Brandon got together with Jeff, an employee with welding experience, to take a look at my truck and see if there was anything that they could do. Jeff and Brandon inspected the bumper and put a game plan together and Jeff jacked up the bumper and took great care in welding plates onto the spots where the vertical welds broke and allowed me to get back on the road. Jeff took at least an hour of his day, doing the best welds he could to ensure that my vehicle would be safe to drive. Great people work here...highly competent and caring. If I lived in the St. George area, I would bring my auto(s) to them exclusively. read more

Miracle workers! We were passing through town when the intercooler hose on our Sprinter van busted. There wasn't a spare part to be found anywhere near St. George. I had over 100,000 miles on original shocks they were making noise. Riverside did the work. I drive away, and next day shocks are making noise. I called them inform me, they saved me labor cost by just changing the lower section (shocks) . So now too correct the noise I will have to replace the upper mounts! I found out that there is not much cost difference replacing the entire shock ! That is what the should of done! read more
