Well I wish I would have come here to read the reviews before taking by vehicle to Riverside carburetor. My vehicle needed carburetor tuning, as i would accelerate it would bogg out and stall. I take it to them, uber back home, then in a couple days Larry say to pick it up. So I Uber back, pay the bill and start my drive back home. While on the freeway trying to merge, boom, stalled. The next day I take it back, uber home, now keep in mind it's 38 dollars for uber ride. They have the van a few more days. Larry calls says it's ready. I go back, yes uber, we'll cut to the chase 5 trips and it still doesn't work. Over 400 for the "repairs" and 260 in uber. Save the headache and go somewhere else. read more

Took in my Dad's 74 Duster. Waited over a week to get a response. I would call them every couple days and they would say yeah we will call you back. Nothing. I finally decided to show up to the shop in person during my work hours. When I showed up Larry told me there was an issue with the ignition module... then he told me to go get the part... That's ridiculous. What the hell am I paying for. Unprofessional and pathetic. I tried getting the part but I didn't trust this shop to finish the job. I towed it home and am taking it somewhere else. I paid $240 for a basic diagnostic. And got treated like a jerk. Total rip off. read more

I had these guys rebuild my marine Carburater for my jet boat. I let them know what I was running in it. Got the carb back in two day which was nice since I was on a tight schedule. Put it on and went to the river could not get the boat to run for two days. When I got back took the boat back to them and was told that my ENGINE set up was wrong and the engine was running to cold. So the next day took it to a local lake and over heated my engine blew a head gasket,. Got it rebuild $$$$ and steel could not get it to run right, had a buddy that rebuilds cars check it out after about two hours trying to tune it up he took off the carburater and found that it had four different size needles in the carb. I let them know what my engine set up was. Will not refer them to any buddy else. read more

Brought my car in for a $1k water pump change, in which I supplied all parts and oil. Few weeks after picking my car up, I discovered an oil leak. By the time I noticed the leak, my engine was jerking and I had to put more oil in. I took it back to be fixed. Turns out, not only was the oil filter was loose, but coolant was leaking because a seal was not properly tightened. I forgot to mention to Larry that my car makes a squeaking noise when cold, likely due to a loose belt. I understand mistakes happen and was planning to bring my car back for a $600 catalytic converter change. But, I will never do business here again due to the service I received from owner, Larry. When I asked Larry to refund me for the oil, he acted dumb and made me repeat the cost and quantity of oil multiple times, as though he did not know what 1.25 gallons of oil is. He did refund me, but had the nerve to ask me to bring in a receipt so he can properly itemized the deduction. This lack of customer service and willingness to properly right the wrong clearly caused by his mechanics inability to double check their work has now cost him thousands of dollars worth of future business. My dad buys, fixes, and sells vehicles. When I informed my father of what happened, he was planning on dropping off 2 vehicles here, but decided to go elsewhere. read more

And then I find the part you broke in my car, JB wielded from where y'all broke it. Hi, I've been going to R. Carb and Electric since 2002. They've completed approximately $15,000 to $20,000 of improvements and repairs for me along the way. However, Larry seems to have changed his business model over the past 3 to 4 years. Now, he doesn't care about customer care and much as making as much money from them as he can. I've noticed his return business decline drastically . This is what happens when you a shop charges the highest prices in town. Thus, my advise is to find another shop. I asked Larry what he would charge to replace the inline fuel pump and filter on my 1987 Bronco II. He told me one hour of labor, $100. plus parts of $50. I dropped it off yesterday morning and then he called me in the afternoon and told me it would be over $300.. that's twice the amount he told me 5 days previous.. I'm shopping for a mechanic on Yelp. read more

This repair shop does not know what thier doing they broke parts in my engine and let me drive away, stay away they do not back up thier guarantees or any warrantees they put in writing. I feel they ripped me off. I took my car there for repair, as it had an electrical problem. I explained to them that I smelled a burning wire inside the car the night before, But it was not check out as the small was not very strong, I got up the next morning and the car would not start.the battery was dead,it would not charge I took it out and charged it put it back in and tried to start it again it started but it would not come out of park. I turned it off and the battery was again dead and would not start. That is what I told to them.they kept my car for three weeks. I would pass by to see if they were working on it,sometimes twice a day and it would not be moved from the spot they put it in that morning. Finally they called and said it was ready for me to pick it up.the bill was 1093.dollars i drove the car less then 40 miles and I went back shop for some wires left loose parked in front of the office went to talk to them,machanic got it and it woulda not start.the same thing i took it there for.They made out a new repair order and I signed it it said N/C, I left my car there from 12-27-18 to the 02-22-19,the new bill was 2369.75.and in my mind this was what they should have repaired the first time when I gave them the 2369.75 he had me sign the new bill. I think this guy is a crook. I would not let him fix a bicycle of mine. read more

I cant imagine ever taking my car anywhere else, they finished my car one day ahead of schedule and made me very happy. Car runs 10 time better then when I drove it in. Called this shop late last week, talked to Larry the owner and explained the issues i was having with my vehicle. After getting answers i decided to take my 1986 Toyota puck pick up truck to him for carburetor work. After all was said and done, i ended up paying a little more than originally quoted because i had my fuel pump and fuel filter replaced but i was okay with the pricing, it was fair. Overall, my experience with this business was excellent and my little commuter truck now runs like a champ! I am extremely pleased with the service and personnel at this shop. Riverside Carburetor & Electric has been my "go-to" shop for over six years and I take my car there whenever my 50 year old fully restored classic VW bug needs some TLC. His shop was recommended to me by a friend who takes his classic car to Riverside Carburetor & Electric. Larry and his team of mechanics fix whatever has gone wrong, broke, failed, or just doesn't "seem right. " He is good at diagnosing the problem, good at fixing it the first time and, at least for me, completes the service the same day (I also have a BMW which I take to the BMW dealership for warranty work and BMW takes days to do a silly oil change!). I have ALWAYS felt I was in good hands with Larry. His customer service gets high marks from me. This past week, I had to call on him to fix a fuel line problem with my bug. He went to extraordinary lengths to take a look at my non-running car, fixed it enough so I could get it to the shop, then fixed it immediately once i got it there! Done! He went out of his way to assist me and get my baby back on the road! Thanks for consistently delivering a good outcome at a reasonable price and please, NEVER RETIRE from the biz! I took my 78 CJ to Larry. My dad bought the Jeep new. I inherited it from him when he died . It needed to be rebuilt.which I did most of the work myself. I put fuel injection on it and problems with it stalling off road. I called​ Larry. We talked bit I took it to him the next day he had the soulution that same day a few days later it was finished. He had quite a bit of work to do to it but it was finished in a few days and has never ran so good. Dad's Jeep means the world to me.i can't thank them enough. My son took my 1974 plymouth Duster to this shop to diagnose the problem and repair. I spoke with Larry who said he would charge me 3 hours for diagnostic and call back that afternoon. 3 days went by and i called to check the status. Someone answered and told me Larry was on the phone and would call me back. No call back from Larry. I waited 3 more days and called again to get a status. Someone answered and when i called they were rude saying they just started to look at my vehicle and would call me back. Again i received no call back. 3 additional days went by and my son went to the shop to find out if there was any status on the vehicle. Larry told my son it was the ignition module and that we needed to get the part. I calked Larry and he said he did not know what module it was since it was an after market part. Larry told me i could call J & M speed center and get the part and bring it to him. What type of service is this? What muscle car out there does not have after market parts when it is changed from points to electronic ignition? What type of "Bozo" outfit is this place. The ignition module was still in the car with a part number on it. At that point i decided to tow my vehicle out of there and take it somewhere else. Larry charged me 240 dollars for diagnostics. What a ripoff. 240 dollars for what. Do not take your vehicle here you will be disappointed. An unprofessional shop that could not even get the part and charged 240 bucks. Take your car to Ed Martin's Garage and get professional service. They will not tell you to get your own parts. Ed read more

Won't be back. 2 reasons: took my classic 1965 Mustang in for some engine repair. It sat outside day and night for nearly 2 weeks while we waited for the parts. It was raining, a lot. I asked Larry if he could at least put the car in at night to help keep it out of the rain. He replied, "There are other cars more important than yours that need to go in at night." That's a direct quote. When the work was finally completed and I picked up the car the carpet was completely soaked from being out in the rain day after day. You could just press your hand on the floor and it was literally soaked. When I complained to Larry he did offer to have "my guy" vacuum the carpet with a wet vac. I declined because at that point I just wanted to get the car out of there and back home and in the garage. Incidentally, I had taken the car in because it was making a funny noise. Larry said it was the carburetor and replaced it among other things. Soon after I started driving it again it started making the same noise. I took it somewhere else and they fixed the brakes (yes, the brakes!) and the noise went away and it's been fine ever since. Hmmmm. Fast forward about 2 years, my Mom's car needed a new ignition switch for about $800. Against my better judgement I went back to RCE and thought I'd give them another try with this car. Sure, they fixed the ignition but Larry soon called and strongly recommended over $1,800 of additional repairs that he said were really needed. Things like rotating the tires, changing the oil, flushing out the radiator, etc. I declined. Larry said, "Well, you really need to change the oil, it's really dirty!" I declined again. When I went to pick up the car Larry had someone else wait on me even though he was right there and wouldn't look at me and didn't say a word. I went a few days later to another garage to have the oil changed since Larry had said it was "really dirty." Halfway through the oil change the worker came up to me and asked me if I had just purchased the car. I said no and asked why. He said, "The oil is clean. It looks like it was recently changed. You don't really need this service." Hmmmmm. So, I went home and found my paperwork for the car. Guess what? Every single thing that Larry said needed to be done for the additional $1,800 had been done at the dealership when my Mom had taken in the car LESS THAN 1,000 MILES EARLIER!! Seriously! Sorry, Larry. You had my business for several years but I won't be back to a mechanic I can't trust. I would encourage anyone considering using RCE to think twice and get a second opinion. I learned the hard way. read more

Last summer, new to Riverside, I brought my car here because I didn't know where else to go, and this place was close. I am pretty suspicious of mechanics in general. However, they did fix the problem. It turned out to take longer than they expected, but they did not charge me for extra labor. More recently, they fixed a problem that numerous other mechanics had tried to fix. For the first time in years, our check engine light is off- thanks to these guys. I bought a used car from a small dealership, and almost as soon as I drove it off the lot, the check engine light came on. It turns out they had falsified the smog report and covered up several things that were wrong with the car, but I didn't have enough experience to realize it at the time. I took the car to Larry, and he looked at what repairs might be needed and coached me through how to deal with the shady dealership. With his help, I was able to make them allow me to return it, but this meant Larry lost the revenue he would have gotten from doing all the repairs it needed. Today I got a confirmation on my opinion of Riverside Carb & Electric. I was picking up some auto parts from [I was asked not to name them so I will just say they are a well known, large auto parts supply chain] and thought I would ask them what they think of Riverside Carburetor and Electric. Their answer: they refuse to sell them parts! "Why?" I asked. the answer: "Too many times they order parts, then 2 or 3 days later, they return them for credit, unused. Big paperwork pain in the ass and a wasted trip by our runner who first delivered them, then has to go pick them up again." When I asked what that was all about, he just rolled his eyes, shook his head and said, "c'mon man, you do the math..." I pressed him to explain it to me and he made me promise that we were 'not on the record'. So all I can say is this: if you took your car to be fixed, and they charged you for it, and you then thought they hadnt actually renewed the parts they were charging you for, but they could show you the invoice from the supply house for the very parts on the very day they fixed your car, would you be satisfied?... 'nuff said. These guys are as crooked as a dog's hind leg. And I'm not the only one in town who thinks so. read more

I've brought 2 of my cars here. A newer Toyota Tundra and an older VW Fastback. I've also paid multiple thousands with Larry. Both being aircooled Volkswagen fans we became close quickly. I thought I had found my permanent shop and was excited on how close to my house they were. I could walk there. On my Volkswagen I did a full mechanical restoration where I had a motor, transmission and custom front beam/suspension built by the best names in the business. I installed everything myself and took it to Larry for a final inspection/tuning. He fixed many small issues that made the car feel road ready but also left a fuel line hanging down to where it was being eaten through by the axle. It wore through most of the insulation before I caught it (luckily). Had him install an exhaust that started leaking the next day and he also stripped the nuts that attach said exhaust. He took all the play out of my carb linkage and it was knocking all the wires off my coil. The car could've burned to the ground and was cutting out and not charging. I ended up fixing these myself but was extremely disappointed that a seasoned pro would miss such obvious dangerous conditions that I paid specifically to have checked for. On my tundra I voiced extensively that the tires need precise balancing to eliminate highway speed vibration. He laughed at me and said my tires were the problem. I looked online for possible remedies and found an article about lug torque being important for Tundra alloy wheels. But unfortunately this was only applicable to the new tundras...not my vehicle. Well Larry took this so personal...Like I was the asshole to suggest a remedy found on a Google search. I just wanted my truck to stop shaking. Anyways the last time I went here, he wrote up the lug torque on my invoice as to rub my face in it. And the funny part is that he STILL left me with a shaky mess after a 300$ brake job. My truck vibrates violently every time I apply the brakes at highway speed. He told me to bring it back in the next day but I'm busy and at this point realized I was never going back here again. Makes me cringe to think about all the money I payed to end up with 2 cars that ultimately had unresolved issues immediately after paying my bill. Larry is very knowledgeable and experienced but that does not always translate to results. In the end both of my vehicles had very bothersome, elementary safety problems that could have easily been fixed with a little more attention to detail. And checking tire balance. Unfortunately Larry seems more concerned with being right, instead of GETTTING IT RIGHT. I'm not always an easy person to deal with. I expect the best and am willing to pay for it. Unfortunately I paid thousands and was not satisfied in the end. Never going back because when I did speak to him about the issues, he didn't offer the immediate attention that I would give an unhappy customer. He seemed like I was bothering him for even bringing it up. Not the service I expect from someone I not only established a relationship with but paid every dollar (and then some) he ever asked me for.
