My husband and I were surprised by how much we liked this park. We were also surprised by how much this park has to offer. It has wide walking paths with beautiful waist-height light posts lining one of the paths for when it gets dark - very romantic! The river view is really nice. There are lots of trees, 2 covered areas with several picnic tables under each one, horseshoe-throwing sand pits, tennis courts, 2 basketball courts, several sandy river-front areas, and 2 beach-volleyball courts. Also within Louis Rasmussen Day Park is Ahle's Point Cabin, a small, gorgeous, wood-paneled restaurant/bar with 2 fireplaces (1 indoor & 1 outdoor), a patio overlooking the river which is a nice place from which to watch the sunset, and a variety of games to play if you're in a game-playing mood, from cribbage to chess. I'll review Ahle's Point Cabin (which is a part of McMenamin's) more extensively on its own separate listing, but for the purposes of this review, the cabin really adds a lot to this already impressive park. This park has 3 signs saying that: 1. Beachfront hours are from 5am - 9pm. 2. There is no camping or overnight staying at this park. 3. No alcohol is allowed in this park. The public bathrooms in this park are easily accessible - they're near the basketball courts and the tennis courts - and they're very clean, well-kept-up for outdoor bathrooms, and well-stocked with toilet paper and paper towels. To my surprise, I noticed a full walk-in shower at the back of the women's bathroom. However, the shower was out-of-order at the time of my visit. Do note that this park is a stone's throw away from a busy amtrak train track and close enough to I-5 to clearly read the exit signs on that freeway. However, don't let that deter you from visiting this lovely park. We saw couples, teenagers, families with small kids, 20-somethings, and elderly folks enjoying their time there yesterday. This is a delightful park for a stroll along the river, a chat seated on a park bench, watching a sunset from the Ahle's Cabin patio, a picnic, or a fun game of basketball, horseshoe-throwing, tennis, or beach volleyball.

What a wonderful under the radar waterfall this is...Beaver Falls!…read more Located 6 miles east of Clatskanie, Oregon, this area near the Columbia River is beautiful. Let's get straight to the heart of what Beaver Falls is all about... If you plug "Beaver Falls Trailhead" into Google Maps, you'll have no problem finding it. Then just park along the side of Highway 30 and hike 1/3rd of a mile through the forest to the base of the falls. It's that easy. When I visited on a Thursday in early afternoon of July, there was hardly anyone around which was good for taking quality photos. Best of all, you can swim in the waters. So definitely bring a bathing suit, towel and a pair of water shoes so the rocks won't hurt your feet while entering the pool beneath Beaver Falls. The water is cold but once you jump in and get comfortable, it's a terrific setting. There's also a long rope where you can swing across and splash down below. It's great for kids (and adults too, lol) to have playful times. For me, I was content soaking in the pool and appreciating the surroundings. More info... - It's free to visit. - Cell phone reception works fine. - You can walk underneath the falls! This is a Must-Do. You can capture some amazing moments standing beside Beaver Falls. It's not hard or dangerous and offers a unique perspective. - Beaver Falls is just one of many outstanding waterfalls situated around Oregon and especially near the Columbia River. There's also Lower Lewis River Falls, Panther Creek Falls and Spirit Falls, to name a few. - You can spend a few hours hanging out or as little as 30 - 40 minutes. It depends on your time horizon. But overall, it's really pleasant to be here that I'd suggest bringing snacks, lunch and maybe having a picnic. This Beaver Falls is absolutely so much fun to hang out at. When you can swim in the waters, swing from a rope and even walk underneath the falls, It makes for a worthwhile summer visit.

A very unique and beautiful area to visit!…read more The trailhead has a nice parking area, with bathrooms. The trail to the winding, aqua blue stream is wide and well maintained. You can view the main attraction from trails on both sides, as well as looking down from the bridge. We took the trails on both sides of the water. The trail across the bridge is much easier to traverse, and winds down to the (closed down) suspension bridge. The opposite side leads down beyond the suspension to the waters edge, but even to get down to that point isn't for the faint of heart. It includes a narrow, steep downhill trek...including a section over running water (with a wire handrail for support). Once you arrive at the water at the bottom you can view the suspension bridge above, and if you dare, the waterfall below. We did attempt to continue on a little ways down the trail from there, but as reviews describe, the next section is even steeper with a very loose and dangerous footing. I got vertigo trying to look over the edge at the falls right before that section, so continuing on was a huge no. I'm sure that many people without height woes have no issues moving on, but if you're like me, the trail ends there. This area is stunning. The waters and canyon are a site that pictures simply cannot do justice. Highly recommend!!

The…read moretrails wind through this lush, green wonderland, with pockets of shade that feel like little natural hideaways and open spaces that invite you to just sit and breathe. I watched families and hikers passing by, some daring to dip into the water. I can only imagine how cold it must be, but it looked exhilarating! Every turn offered something new, towering trees, sparkling streams, and even little corners where wildflowers peeked out. We ended up spending hours wandering, stopping whenever we felt like it, and just enjoying the simple beauty of it all. It's definitely a stop that makes you slow down, notice the little things, and feel refreshed by being outside. I can see myself coming back again and again.

The park's 2.8‑mile trail winds through a mix of dense forest and sunlit meadows along the East Fork Lewis River, giving you moments of peaceful reflection and wide-open breathing room. We decided to spend our time taking Halloween photos all over the park. While enjoying ourselves, it was great inspiration. There is something grounding about the tall Douglas firs and the hum of the river nearby. I found a quiet spot on one of the gravel paths, sat down for a bit, and just watched as the river ran. Apparently it's not just a walking park, either..there are places to picnic, horseshoe pits, and even a small boat launch if you want to get out on the water. There are lots of picnic tables and covered shelters too, perfect for a family gathering or a chill afternoon with friends. I heard on warm days, people swim here..though heads up, there are no lifeguards and the river currents can be strong. Parking is simple, though there's a daily fee (around $3 for a car). If you come here often, the annual pass is a pretty good deal. If you're craving a place to get away from the city, stretch your legs, or just be near water and trees, Lewisville Regional Park is the perffffect place. We took the loop trail, about 3 miles around the park, into the forest and along the river. There are multiple large grassy areas, play areas, and courts. The pavilions are superb. They are fully equipped, including a water source and fire pit, and are spread out throughout the acreage. The trail was great as well. The paths are very wide and well maintained, a dog walkers paradise. I was also impressed with the amount of trash cans, no excuse for litter in this park. There was a very small thing that really impressed me, hadn't seen it before...a container near the waters edge to place used fishing line. Would love to see those more often! The ONLY negative experience we had was trying to get in. Neither of the parking pass machines were working well and consistently. It took us about 10 tries to get a ticket. After multiple swipes of the credit card and attempts with some bills, we finally got one. And it wasn't us, we had a long line behind us and multiple people out trying to get them to work. When we left the park we noticed the same traffic jam...they definitely need addressed! As frustrating as the parking machines were, the park made up for it. Fabulous place to spend an afternoon!

Also a lot of green space, trees for climbing and forested park edges for exploring and letting dogs run.

It's beautiful, sprawling, and accessible. The playground equipment is well maintained, and the free range of green grass is lovely, full of hills and beautiful. My only concern was the amount of garbage spread through the park. I had to keep an eye on my little guy to make sure he wasn't eating any candy wrappers. A bit more of a cleaning during the garbage pick ups could really help. We will be back very soon!
