It was a great pub when it was in business. But I'm pretty sure it closed down a few years ago. Miss it. Bedford needs more pubs!

I had a "Jeezus Murphy" Irish red ale at Riverside Pub in Bedford. It was so good I kept saying Jeezuz fword murphy that's good. While I was there I had the fish n's chips. Fries and fish were fan-freakin-tastic. The Slaw was ok... Meh. Very fresh. The tartar sauce was just the prepackaged usual. I would totally get this again. The beer though!! If service is what you want then this is definitely not the place to come. The staff are more interested in socializing with each other and serving customers. I'm not going to go detail, needless to say this is my last visit. I used to be a regular but this place has defiantly gone down hill For a place that needs to excel to compete I would rather pay a little more for better service read more

I just can't do it. I tried to come up with ways that I could ease my review into the two-star range but this place just hasn't been kind to me, making for many an awkward Friday office lunch excursion when the popular vote brought us to this top-floor dive (a term I still use with love) across from Sunnyside Mall. Made crueler still for being almost within earshot of divine dishes at Il Mercato. Service is sparse but definitely borders on friendly neighbourhood diner quality which is better than some other pubs in the area. So I'll give them credit for having some niceness in their backpockets for emergency use. Still, odds are you won't see your server more than four times: 1) the drink order, 2) the food order, 3) the food delivery, 4) when you eventually resort to drastic measures to get their attention for the bill. I recommend bonfires, flares, and a spirited musical number. The food? Um. Yeah. They have some that you can order...so there's that. Maybe I shouldn't even get into it considering my vegetarian status. I'll just say that the veggie wrap is an unsauced fried medley of whatever vegetables they have in the kitchen that day. Most times, this has been only onion and green pepper although on multiple occasions, it was just onions. Yeah. I paid money for what was literally an onion wrap. While I really do hate to hate on a neighbourhood favourite, I really just can't get behind this spot. read more

Seems like the Riverside is on the downslide. Had fish n chips and the cook may have forgotten that chips means more than what a mouse would eat. Fish overcooked. Perhaps a victim of their own success; place was packed but seriously understaffed. Waitress was doing her best. It was also government pay day. Also, the food is always cold; they walk the food upstairs from a downstairs kitchen and a cold hallway in winter. It's better on a non busy day. Perhaps. read more

This place used to be a semi-favorite of mine until the last time I came here on a busy night for beer & wings... The place was SUPER-packed and the server took almost 15 minutes to come take our drink order. I should have taken that as a sign of things to come and high-tailed it on outta there, but we were hungry and had secured a nice table out on the patio. I ordered sweet potato fries and chicken wings and they arrived after good 30 minute wait. Then, as I bit into the first wing I noticed the raw center!! It was bright pink and red around the bone!! Uhh, salmonella anyone?? Eww. I would have complained to my server but she was nowhere to be found. In fact, nobody even bothered to come ask how our food was at all. We'd finally had enough and went inside to get service. Another server hastily removed the wings from our bill without so much as an apology. No Bueno. Between the raw wings and the horrendous service, a 1-star rating is generous. Get your act together, Riverside, before you make someone really sick! I will NEVER step foot inside this place again and I can not recommend it at all. read more

I've been going to this pub off and on for the past 10 years, usually on Friday nights for their pan-fried haddock. A few Fridays ago I tried some of their new menu items. The lobster and crab dip with pita chips was great. I'll be ordering that again. The pub is always hopping on Friday nights. The servers are really friendly and work hard to get drinks and meals to customers. How they remember everyone's order is beyond me. Their deck overlooking the Sackville River is a great spot in the summer. The only negative I have is that the pub needs new carpets, paint, etc. It's looking really tired these days. read more

There's nothing fancy about this place, other than cheap suds & decent wings. For weekend & early week evenings, this is one of the better locations in Bedford for you to stop in, enjoy wing night or pasta night and cheap beer prices. The decor is generic dated pub, which isn't bad as it sets up your expectations accordingly. The service on par with other pubs, friendly and efficient. Depending on how busy it is, you might not see them often enough, but it was never a problem. They have daily specials and are usually good value. I've been in often enough during the week and weekend to see that it is never a problem finding space no matter the size of your group and serves its purpose very well. read more

You know what? I am a fan of this place. I wasn't sure at first what to expect after reading Yelp reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised. It seemed hard to find and possibly a little dive-ish. I went in last week in search of the burger week special - poutine burger. This place is very large and has a great view of the river... hence the name I suppose. it looks like it would have a kick butt patio whenever summer decided to rear it's big beautiful head. I remember thinking, this is a place my parents would like, big booth seating, tons of parking outside, a pub menu and not crowded. My burger was good until my dinner partner starting making comments on the gravy which put me off. it's a little thick and congealed. I'm not sure the poutine burger is a regular menu item, so you don't need to worry about that. It's a seat yourself atmosphere and the service was friendly and fast, my two favourite service qualities! read more

I admit I have a soft spot for pubs. I like them gritty with character and stories, faded elegance. I don't know that the Riverside was ever elegant, but it looks like it had it's day and if you go on a Friday or Saturday the day is now it's so busy! Admittedly you have to work to get great service (read put on your I'm the best/funniest/sweetest/ customer ever routine) but the Friday night 2 4 1 Haddock is great as is the Artichoke/Spinach dip with fresh parmesan....and I've seen the famous huge burger polished off here...ick... Now here's my tip. Go in the mid afternoon when there are only a few hard cores sitting around the bar. Slide into one of the three booths by the window over the Sackville river. You now have a treetop view and a pub so quiet it feels like your own... read more

I've been to the riverside a number of times and most recently went to meet a friend for lunch on Friday. I always have great service here, for some reason Ben. B doesnt - maybe its my good looks that help me out ;) I had the kahuna beef grill with a tossed salad on the side. The sandwich was delicious but messy, had to be eaten with a fork+knife. I was happy they delivered the salad with the dressing on the side, as I dont like my leaves to be drenched in dressing. The decor is dated and one evening when I was there they didnt have music playing, and it was desperately needed! My plan is to eventually go and eat the mighty dog when Im in a "man vs food" kind of mood! As far as pubs go, this place works for me! read more

Came to Riverside to take in their wing night, was disappointed that they no longer sauce shake their wings and now only do sauce on the side, not my choice, also one of my favourites, potatoe skins, has been deleted from the menu. The Riverside is located on the top level of Sunnyside Too (the restaurant formerly known as Smitty's) in Bedford, across from Sunnyside Mall. Generally, it's not a bad pub experience. The menu's pretty extensive, with more variety than you might expect, and the food, which comes in quite large portions, is tasty. They also have an all-you-can-eat brunch buffet on Sundays. Nothing to write home about here though, just large vats of various foodstuffs including scrambled eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, and slightly stale pastries. It won't blow your taste buds away, but it's cheap and decent hangover food when all you need is something greasy in your stomach. If you're feeling particularly adventurous, they have a 24 oz. burger on their menu, and if you manage to eat it all, as well as the mountain of fries they serve with it, you get the honour of having your name engraved on a plaque on the wall. #BurgerWeek2016 #round2 First things first tough spot to find! Hidden away behind another restaurant left us in a dizzy till we spotted it! The Poutine Burger! I must say this definitely proves simple is better! Unlike my first burger week experience.... this was a good burger! Beef Patty! Cooked Medium-Well! Not normal for these parts but actually gave the meet some character! Cheese Curds! So squeaky it reminded me of my college days in the townships of Quebec! Then finished with a thick beef gravy! With good flavour that complemented my protein well! Lesson for burger week so far! Simple is good! Service: 6/10 read more

This place is terrible. Had the MR steak, it was small, part was overcooked, part was medium, and all of it was tough as shoe leather. Very small portion of fries. No veggies as listed on menu. 2nd visit: a drizzly Monday for lunch in May. Arrived probably around 11:50 and we were only the third party there, taking a booth by the bar. For the next 45 minutes or so, I didn't notice any other customers arrive. I tried the Riverslide Slammer? Strange that I don't recall that name when I saw the menu, but when I go online, that's gotta be the one I ordered because it most closely fits the description (grilled burger with pulled pork, caramelized onions and cheddar for $12). It was good, but I found a few pieces of the pork to be a bit tough, and not as intense a flavor as I find most pulled pork is. I was full from it with the fries. My friend tried the hot hamburger sandwich, opting out of vegetables for only fries on the side ($12). He gives it a 2.5, with good gravy but found it a bit small and not hot. Friendly service, as last time. Although there's nothing memorable about here, I'd go back and try something different if someone wanted to go. read more

Took over an hour to get an appy order of fries, that arrived as we were leaving. Naturally, they were soggy and not even cooked. We were supposed to believe the kitchen was too busy to make fries, and not that they forgot to place the order, while my partners starter chicken wings and main course steak showed up. Food was ok, the helpings were generous, prices were fair. I ordered the Fisherman's basket, it had a variety of deep fried seafood items. The clams were not good, battered fish was ok, a bit soggy. The shrimp and scallops were tasty and the fries were average. My cousin ordered the lasagna, he didn't have nice words for it. It was wings night, so we ordered a couple kinds. They were plump and the honey garlic was great, if you like hot wings, be sure to order hot, we ordered medium hot and it barely registered. My wife and I had the fish special tonight. It was a very good choice. Fish was fresh and done to perfection the spinach salads was perfect. It was busy and a bit slow but the wait staff rise to the occasion as they do on fish special Friday night. I would recommend this pub to anyone. Haddock done perfect. read more

I've been for lunch on a few occasions midweek. It wasn't busy, the service was great and the food was very good. Their pricing is on point with other pubs too. There's limited parking and no elevator to the 2nd floor; a consideration for anyone disabled. Recently there again on a very busy Thursday and Tammy, the young manager, was our server. The food was great, the service was impeccable, and I don't think I ever saw the smile leave Tammy's face. Great place and I'll be back with more friends!! read more

This is by far, one of my favourite places out there! The staff is always fantastic and friendly, the beer cold and refreshing and their wings, fantastic. Every night has a different special and Friday night they have live music, that is better then some of the bars downtown that I've paid cover at. The décor here is pretty typical of many Nova Scotian pubs, a little faded and aged, but to me it just made it cozier. Riverside is the kind of place where strangers will stop by your table to chat, the waiters know your name and a fun time is had by all. The wings are always a good choice, as is the haddock (especially when its the 2 4 1 special) the beef dip and any of their burgers. read more

I'm definitely a fan of the Riverside Pub. I've been an occasional customer of the Riverside for years now and I can't say I agree with a lot of the negative reviews they've been getting. I've always found their service to be extremely courteous and accommodating. For example, after telling them that we are vegetarians and didn't want bacon on the BLT, they offered to saute mushrooms and onions to replace it, something that cannot be found on their menu. After reading the previous post regarding their lack of vegetarian options, I am surprised they didn't tell them about all their options. Something the waitresses reminds us about, from time to time, is that their menu isn't limited to their restaurant. They share a kitchen with the restaurant downstairs which you can order up to the Riverside, giving them a very broad range of options (including some excellent vegetarian options). The corn chowder is amazing. And don't get the vegewrap, it truly is as bad as they say, they should really take it off the menu. read more

Great menu. Good food it can be a busy spot here some evenings. Love their potato skins and caesar salad plus much more. They also have a few two for one night specials. The Sunnyside Too kitchen is a shared kitchen for this one so if you like the food there it is pretty much the same here, with a "pub style" menu. read more

We always enjoy the quick pace and casual style of the Riverside. The wings are pretty good and are a good value item on Wing Nights. The beer is always lovely and cold, and the service is friendly and generally, very speedy. The specials are worth a visit. Been here quite a few times.Stopped by here on a Sunday before the Christmas parade.It was quite busy both upstairs and downstairs.There is ONE kitchen for all three restaurants and they do the best they can and do a good job depending on who is working in the kitchen.This particular night our server did an awesome job.She took care of the children first before the adults which I had forgot to ask her to do,so she was a few thoughts ahead of me.Our food was slow coming up but we expected it.But what we didn't expect was a rude table across from us that treated the server like dirt.They were so rude and loud because their food was coming up slow and cold but yet they waited til the bill was at their table to complain about everything even though the server checked on them quite a few times and each time they smiled and said Everything is fine.I love this place so if you are a newbie coming here on one of their busiest nights then expect the food to be slow coming up so get to know your server and she will remember you the next time and make sure you are taken cared of. read more
