We ate here for lunch today, and it was a very disappointing experience. There were only three tables waiting for food, yet it took nearly an hour for our meals to arrive. We were told the delay was because of the mac and cheese, which was supposedly cooked in a cast-iron dish. Instead, it appeared to be Kraft mac and cheese heated in a ceramic bowl. Because of the long wait, all of our fries were cold by the time they reached the table. I ordered the buffalo chicken wrap, and it was difficult to eat because of the way it was prepared. We drove to Madison hoping to enjoy a nice lunch, but unfortunately it was one of the most disappointing restaurant experiences we've had. Four of us for lunch. Started by splitting a half order of chicken livers. The menu stated a half order was a half pound of livers. The livers were very good. However, the order seemed awfully small to be a half pound.. We also tried their cup of gumbo ($9.99). The gumbo was pretty good, but I prefer gumbo made with a brown roux, this gumbo was tomato based. Three of us had the Half Corned Beef Reuben lunch special served with fries ($9.99). Tried Rivertown for the first time while in town. Food was mediocre. The burger was OK. It tasted like a froze. Patty- I don't know that it is- just on the same par. It had a very strong pepper taste. I ordered it without the bun. Our party had the Ruben as well and it was ok- it was compared to Arby's and Arby's winning. The positives: service was GREAT! Our waitress was very nice, friendly and attentive. It was reported that the crawfish étouffée was "very good." The dill ranch was good as well! It was pretty quiet and there was only one other table. I could see it being a fun place to have a drink or two and meet up with a friend. I went to this location with my mother and sister for dinner. My sister and I had the whitefish basket with fries, and my mother had the 1/2 Reuban with fries. All the portions were large, tasty, and satisfied our appetites. The service was quick and efficient. Our drink order arrived immediately, and the meal within 20 minutes. Our server was polite and checked back on us often, even though she had other tables with more guests. The atmosphere in this restaurant is reminiscent of an Irish pub, with a friendly feel, and the molded tin ceiling is absolutely gorgeous. I asked for mine MEDIUM and it came well done and was written that way on the receipt, I don't think Medium and Well Done sound anything alike. I did not send the burger back. In addition to the dried out burger there was an up charge, 50 cents each for pickles, onions, tomatoes, lettuce and cheese. The spiral cut potatoes get a thumbs up. The service was excellent. I commend the young man who was taking care of us. As out-of-towners, we LOVED this place! We ordered the angus steak burger, white cheddar mac, white fish & chips, Cajun gumbo, and the chicken Caesar salad. EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING. The service was fast and our waitress was the sweetest and gave us her recommendations before ordering. The atmosphere is a little quiet, but overall a really cute hole in the wall restaurant. My alfredo had great flavor but the sauce was so thick it was like the consistency of mashed potatoes and there weren't enough noodles. Not ideal for a pasta dish. Food sucked!! Me and my friend were down a few weeks ago and both got there signature burger. We both asked for medium on doneness however we both received well done burgers and cold fries. Also dont get the stuffed peppers its just a plate with diced peppers with some shit sprinkled on them. It sucked all around wont be going back. Not really what we expected... From the higher than normal prices on the menu we thought we might be in for a real treat, instead, the food we received was amateurishly prepared at best. While looking on the internet for a place to eat and spending the afternoon shopping on our Anniversary weekend in Madison, IN, we saw pictures of fried chicken livers at the Rivertown Grill. Since there are not many places anymore that have chicken livers we decided to try it. The chicken livers were not on the menu so we almost left (and maybe we should have). But our server told us that they do in fact have them, plus quite a few other things that are also not on their menu. If you have food items that are not on the menu, how do you expect to sell them? So i ordered the chicken liver entrée that came with a biscuit and southern style white gravy. My wife ordered the Flying Pig hoagie that came with chips and a pickle spear according to our server (the menu specified the pickle spear but not the chips). Chicken Livers - Not the best I've ever had but the familiar flavor of something I haven't tasted in a long time was a welcome experience. Livers at other places have a thicker breading, these seemed to be just lightly dusted with unseasoned flour. The biscuit that came with my entrée was obviously a pre-packaged product, soft and fluffy, but certainly not made from scratch which would usually be expected at this price point ($12.99). And although a white gravy pairs very well with a biscuit, it doesn't pair so well with chicken livers. I was confused as to weather the gravy was intended for the livers or the biscuit. I would have rather been served a brown gravy to compliment chicken livers... Not really what I expected... The portion size was generous. The Flying Pig - "Grilled chicken, ham and cheese on our fresh hoagie bun served hot $11.99" as described on the menu. We cannot attest to the freshness of the hoagie bun since my wife cannot have gluten, so we ordered it with no bun. When you see "grilled chicken" on a menu, it usually indicates a breast of chicken, and since grilled chicken was listed first in the description, one would assume that chicken would be the dominant protein on the sandwich. It was not. When my wife's sandwich came out it consisted of sliced ham on the bottom, a scant splattering of diced chicken topped with a melted white cheese (type of cheese was not specified on the menu). Our server told us the sandwich was served with chips and a pickle spear. Once again, for the price point of the sandwich I would expect house made potato chips or at the very least a pre-packaged kettle chip of some type served next to the sandwich. Well, it was pre-packaged alright! A pre-packaged single serving size of Lay's potato chips, still in the all too familiar yellow Lay's bag! I literally laughed when the plate was presented... Not really what she expected... And to top it off, the pickle spear was absent. Another observation - When we arrived, an 8 top across from us was finishing up and left shortly thereafter. Their table sat not bussed for the entire duration of our visit (approx. 1 hour) and was only attended to right before we paid our check. There were only 2 other tables of the 15 or so tables available seated at the time. The food items looked attractive on the menu. Unfortunately, that's the only place they were attractive. The menu could be potentially really good if they would refine the offerings already there and prepare everything to meet the expectations of the asking price. I would hate to find out how disappointing the $36 6oz. Filet Mignon is, or better yet, the $54 double 6oz. Filet Mignons. And please, if you're going serve Lay's potato chips, at least have the mindfulness of food presentation to take them out of the bag! Our server was pleasant and sufficiently attentive. read more

The lobster bisque was missing the key ingredient--lobster-- and my husbands gumbo had only smoked sausage in it and tasted like it was straight out of the Campbell's can.
