Duck breast and rustic bread with cultured cream
    Jamie C.

I'm embarrassed to say the tavern name almost made me skip this gem. Tavern conjured up images of smoke stained walls and sticky floors. But boy oh boy, I'm so glad I trusted my trusty Yelp app and the other reviewers. I'd always heard the food in Hudson was legendary and Rivertown did not disappoint. I was so impressed by the complexity of the flavors brought together. The duck breast was perfectly cooked and paired with cherry mostrada (which I learned is a mustard seed based sauce). The potency of the mustard perfectly balanced with the sweetness of the cherry and the duck. Then there was Yuzu Kosho (also had to look this up) jus. A perfect dish. I also cheated and allowed myself to experience the rustic bread with cultured cream. YUMMY! Will be back and recommend to my friends.

I went to Rivertown Lodge when I was away with my boyfriend in Hudson. This restaurant was truly one of the best restaurants ever. Every dish was so unique and fresh. It was insane. The restaurant itself is so cool and cozy. It is a perfect vibe. Overall, not much could top this meal.

The review is for the restaurant. Beware when ordering the salad - we found that it was unwashed, there was dirt in the leaves (see photo). When we raised it to the server and manager, no one seemed to mind nor care (they didn't even offer to compensate us for the salad). Service was average, manager was sassy, very unpleasant experience overall. I've been to Hudson a number of times and always stop here; this will likely be my last. $

Awesome vibe and experience all around -- and something about the limited seating inside made it feel even a bit exclusive. The food was all creatively conceived of and well executed. If we had more room, we would've tried some more plates off the menu.

I made reservations for 2 on Easter evening. The hotel was renovated and the lobby had such a nice ambiance and spacious. We ordered the sourdough bread and butter. They gave us 4 thick (over 1" thick) toasted and crusty. Butter was dusted with seasoning which adds to the toast's enjoyment. We started with the GaiLan broccoli and Grilled cabbage with Bartagga. The sauce with the cabbage was delicious and was good with the crusty toast. We ordered the Scallop and pasta special Agnolotti( butternut squash). Scallops were seared beautifully and perfect doneness. We ate the broccoli and cabbage before I remembered to take pictures. So I have after pictures and will come back to take the before pictures next time (lol). We did take pictures of the entrees. Definitely a place to come back for a meal or hang out at bar and bites.

It was hard in the past to find places for all of us but now it's even more difficulty because we still have my extremely picky BIL who has stomach issues, GERD, and a multitude of other issues, and now we have a vegan-ish person who tries to stay vegan but eats cheese, dairy, and eggs. So finding places to satisfy everyone is more complicated. This place met our needs and can meet yours: dog friendly, vegetarian options, and has something for even the pickiest of people. Me and another person got the strip steak, my husband got the Philly cheesesteak, MIL got the wunderbar burger, FIL got salmon burger, the vegan-ish got a veggie burger and one of the salads, which he split with his wife the SIL, and my picky BIL got the chicken sandwich. He freaked out over the sandwich because he wanted to know why it was moist and not dry. His partner and I were like, "You can have fully-cooked, moist chicken. Dry chicken isn't the only cooked option." But he continued to have a meltdown over his perfectly cooked chicken. He did eat it though. Family can drive you nuts sometimes. Anyways, despite the meltdown, I think we were all satisfied with our food. I did find the mashed potato on the steak to be very creamy but everything else on the plate was very good. Steak was cooked medium-rare liked I asked. Overall, the place is very good, excellent food, excellent service, and it was a busy night.

"We don't have a cocktail menu, but we can make anything you'd like."…read more That was one of the first things our server told us, and honestly, it was refreshing. These days, it feels like every bar has a cocktail menu full of creatively named drinks that require reading a list of ingredients just to figure out what you're ordering. At Governor's Tavern, if you want a gin and tonic, you simply ask for a gin and tonic. The only decision you need to make is which gin you'd like. I'm not much of a cocktail person, but I appreciate that not every place feels the need to reinvent the wheel. The place was packed at lunchtime, but we got lucky and grabbed a pair of seats across from the bar. The server who I quoted was genuinely friendly and welcoming. I ordered a Guinness, but unfortunately the keg had just kicked. She recommended the Samuel Smith chocolate stout instead and even brought me a sample before I committed to taste since I never heard of it, which was a nice touch. For food, we ordered the State Grill burger and the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. Both were excellent, and each came with Belgian-style hand-cut fries. If you're spending the day browsing the boutiques and antique shops along Warren Street and want a drink, a good meal, and a lively mix of locals and tourists, Governor's Tavern is worth a stop.

First opened in late October of 2024, Manor Rock is located in a historic townhouse in Hudson and offers the quintessential farm-to-table dining experience--primarily from their farm located a few miles away in Taghkanic. My review for card-carrying members of team Cliff Notes: "Creative cuisine featuring mainly ingredients--vegetables and meats--from the Manor Rock farm in a lovely venue with engaged staff, at prices competitive with the Hudson dining scene." Everyone else is invited to continue reading. We were seated promptly at our reserved time at a round table in a cozy alcove at the front of Manor Rock. The menu, while not extensive, is filled with various sized options, designed and plated to share. Our primary server throughout the evening, Jax, advised us on how many dishes we should order after taking our drink orders. Our son ordered the evening drink special, a Maple Old Fashioned, my wife ordered a Pinot Grigio, our DIL ordered a non-alcoholic bitter called Ghia, and I order their non-alcoholic Negroni---the St. Agrestis (which was, by my taste, indistinguishable from an alcohol-ladened Negroni). Everyone really took their time savoring their drinks throughout the meal, along with water of course which was refreshed throughout the meal by the staff. Our courses started arriving promptly, a few before our drinks which was okay with us since we had already enjoyed a round of cocktails at The Here After (just around the corner from Manor Rock--721 Columbia St.) beforehand (along with an appetite-enhancing bowl of anchovy buttered popcorn). First to arrive was the Sparrowbush bread (locally baked) and a tub of soft, salted butter along with a plate of house-make pickles. The bread was fresh, slightly warm, with a lovely, spongy texture. The pickles--an assortment of golden beets, sliced fennel, and florets of cauliflower were crisp and tart in a properly savory way. Next up a salad of assorted chicories with gold tangerine, candied pecans and small cubes of Pecorino sardo. This was an incredible collection of unusual chicories which were both delicate and flavorful. Apologies for not getting a photo of this attractive dish. Along with the salad, we enjoyed a dish of Butter beans, maple bacon in a smoked broth with chermoula and grilled bread for soaking up the rich broth. Nothing was left on any of the plates during our feeding frenzy. The third round of dishes featured the stuffed roasted leeks, natascha gold potatoes, dried basil all presented over a really rich Champagne-infused raclette. While the leeks were a little difficult to cut, the taste was luscious, though the taste-star of this dish IMO was the raclette. My personal favorite dish of the evening also arrived with the leeks--Crab panisse, green garlic aioli, pickled celery and lardo. The green garlic aioli was on the bottom of the plate holding the panisse made of quinoa flour on top of which rested the fresh crab meat, a small amount of pickled celery and paper-thin slices of lardo. It was a fascinating combination of flavors which everyone raved about. I immediately put in an order for a second round of those so we could enjoy the sensation again. Our final savory course was a grilled coppa steak, spigarello, and porcini sauce charcutière. I've never seen coppa steak on a menu before and knew we had to try it. Also known as pork collar steak, coppa is a cut of pork from the shoulder, specifically the neck muscle extending down to the shoulder. It was an amazing taste treat--served medium-rare, the steak was luscious and rich, a nice contrast to the slight bitterness of the roasted spigarello (which is similar to broccolini). The sauce, made with porcini mushrooms, was sumptuous enough to drink on its own--though we resisted the temptation to do so. While we were all well satiated--though not stuffed--we had to try one of their desserts. Our DIL chose the honey ice cream with a rhubarb granita. What a splendid taste to end the meal--the rich, sweetness of the ice cream balanced wonderfully against the tartness of the granita. This was served in an ice-cold, old-fashioned silver ice cream cup illustrating the attention to detail which characterized our entire dining experience at Manor Rock. It was a memorable dining experience and there are so many others to be had in Hudson's vibrant bar and restaurant scene.
