I live in hudson and Red Dot is my absolute favorite restaurant. The ambience is cozy , the staff friendly and Alana a perfect owner/ hostess . The food is always excellent. One of the rudest and most unpleasant experiences we've ever had. There was no one to greet us when we walked in, and when we went toward the garden to find someone, the owner approached us with an immediately hostile attitude. She clearly did not want us there because we had a stroller and treated us as though she was doing us a favor by allowing us to sit. While we were maneuvering the stroller through the garden, I briefly placed my small handbag on an empty dirt area and she proceeded to yell and curse under her breath in front of the other customers thqt I was ruining her nonexistent plants. Completely unnecessary and incredibly unprofessional. We left without ordering because there was no way we were going to spend a single dollar in a place where customers are treated this poorly. If this is how the owner treats people walking through the door, I can only imagine how the rest of the experience is. Absolutely disgusting customer service. Avoid. read more

I've never written a restaurant review before but I think I should on my experience today at the Red Dot. The service and food were horrible. The person who escorted us to the patio was so rude, which set a bad tone from the beginning right away. The server seemed new to the Customer Service Industry. The Fish-n-Chips was inedible; the cod fish was hot (on the outside) and lukewarm (on the inside). The undercooked cod fish was gummy and translucent, I took a bite and then shredded the 2 pieces to see if I could eat any of it, I could not. The fries were stale and seemed like they were reheated (dry and burnt). The restroom was filthy (I will save you from the disgusting details). They automatically charged a 20% tip to my bill without telling me. read more

The food was fine. The drinks were quite pricey for the neighborhood. The owner seems to be going through a lot, and while it's somewhat entertaining, it's also rather unprofessional to watch. Rather than hiring staff she wants to run around and do everything. Eating at the bar, coughing because she can't take a sick day since she's understaffed, complaining that nothing is where its supposed to be, or that they're running out, and basically telling her one waitress to quit. Telling your staff you haven't made enough money yet for unemployment is really not necessary. Get some more staff, they're lovely. read more

Menu some what limited but there were traditional breakfast dishes, a few salads , a burger & various sandwiches. Husband had the Croque Moisire (?) & I ordered a burger. Husband enjoyed the sandwich as well as the beer he ordered ( none on tap while we were there). Ordered my burger "medium" which was probably a big mistake- although the roll, tomato, lettuce and onion were fresh, the burger was pretty tasteless and had a gray pallor. The fries served with both dishes were very good and portion was generous. So, not sure if I would plan to go there again. We had a terrible experience here. We made a reservation for six people, a child, and our dog--fully expecting to sit in the back garden where dogs are allowed. When we arrived, I politely said we were there for our reservation and mentioned we had a dog. I was met with immediate disgust and attitude. The staff told me dogs were "illegal" and that I "should have known because I'm in New York." First, I'm not even from New York, and second, your own listing says dogs are allowed. The tone and lack of courtesy were shocking--especially since we had confirmed ahead of time. We left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. There are plenty of restaurants in Hudson that treat guests (and their dogs) with kindness and respect--unfortunately, Red Dot isn't one of them. read more

This is one of those truly GREAT surprises. We would always walk past, peep inside the cozy interior, review the menu and think "Hm this could be good but...how could thai curried vegetables, mussels marniere and a black bean quesadilla all be done well on one menu"? We took a chance one night and have been completely converted. The food is consistently impressive and there is something to be said for a place that always delivers on good, simple dishes with the highest quality ingredients. Hats off to the chef, Mark and the owner Alanna for providing what feels like a dying breed of restaurants that offer a cash discount, perfectly executed humble food in a historic space (ask Alanna about its past). What we can vouch for: the Caesar salad (with perfectly cooked chicken), the mussels (best in early summer), the fish and chips, shishito peppers and don't forget the fries and mashed potatoes. read more

Ordered their burger with Swiss cheese and grilled onions with a side of fries and coleslaw everything was fantastic. Fish and chips were great too. Pork was so tender. My husband ordered the Thai curry and this was similarly flat. There was only one note to the sauce that smothered the vegetables. However the jasmine rice was very good. Finally, the butternut squash bisque was delicious, and I would recommend getting that only. The bisque was rich and creamy as a bisque should be, but also had elements of sweet, (maybe vanilla?) flavors, balanced with the nuttiness of toasted kernels of corn. We were on a day trip to Hudson and stumbled upon this cute spot on the main promenade. It was a hot day, and we needed a dog-friendly spot to get some dinner and cold drinks. Their back garden looked peaceful and inviting, and we were not disappointed! There is a water feature in the garden space, and since it was nearing sundown when we arrived, the owner thoughtfully turned on the fountain and lit citronella lanterns (AKA kept the mosquitoes at bay). The server brought out water for our pup, was so kind and speedy, and our meal was delicious! We shared an AMAZING penne pasta and calamari appetizer, and our expectations were met and exceeded. It's worth noting that their menu/specials differed from what we saw online-- we came in hoping for a plate of artichokes, but landed on the very tasty calamari instead. I see it as a positive though; it means they are constantly updating and adding fresh dishes to the menu :) We will be sure to pop in again when we are in town! read more

Red Dot came recommended to us by the lady who checked us in at the nearby Collective Retreats. Being that we wanted something on the lighter side with vegan options, it seemed like a good choice. Hudson has so many top notch places that we later heard about and I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't explore more before coming here for dinner. Don't get me wrong. The garden out back is a lovely place to dine on a cool early fall evening, but I think I would have been happier if we had picked this place to enjoy a glass of wine rather than commit to a pretty pedestrian dinner. Vegan starter options include guacamole & chips and hummus. There's a vegetarian curry dish as well, but it didn't include a protein and I like tofu in my veggie bowls. We opted for the guacamole which was excellent and I had the hummus, which was really just OK and could have used more olives and vegetables. My friend had an equally OK salad. The service was... odd. After a gruff greeting, we were seated at an extremely wobbly table in the backyard. The fern to the side of it was literally in front of my friend's face. Moving tables wasn't a problem (it was 5pm so it was pretty empty). It was probably just her personality, but our waitress was pretty gruff the entire time we were there. She seemed to warm up to us after a while, but... yeah, it was odd and I don't love wondering if I've somehow offended a server (I am a pretty conscientious customer:) This isn't to say I wouldn't return to Red Dot, but it would never be a first choice for dinner. read more

OMG! What a cute place. We drove up to Hudson, NY, to see our cousin who lives in Albany. I wanted to meet her mid way and this place popped up on google. After reading the reviews and looking at the pictures, I sent the link to my cousin and she gave it the thumbs up! It took us an hour and a half to drive there from Chappaqua on The Taconic State Parkway. The town of Hudson is just so quaint with beautiful antique and craft shops. The Red Dot has a bar, an outdoor eating area and a larger eating room to the right of the bar. The staff were friendly and attentive. Once we ordered from the Brunch menu our food was delivered quickly. I ordered the challah French toast with fresh berries. It was light and tasty. The berries were fresh strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. Delicious! Everyone was very happy with their food. Moderately priced. The bill including drinks and tip was around $110 for 5 of us. I will definitely return the next time I am in town. read more

Our friends, local to Hudson, told us that if nothing else we had to eat at the Red Dot. On our last night of a rare get-away we did! What a way to end a magical and much needed break. We came in on Monday night at 5:05 and within 20 minutes the place filled up with everyone knowing everyone's name. This was a "home-away-from-home" bar and restaurant-it was cozy and warm and welcoming. We ordered the crab cakes to start and the meatloaf special with mash potatoes and the pork shank with white potatoes as entrees. Crab Cakes are not my thing and I can see why in the past they weren't - because crab cakes are SUPPOSED to taste like the Red Dot's crab cakes! These were spectacular. And then the entrees came. We were sharing and neither of us could decide - bite by bite - which was more incredible - the meatloaf, the pork, the potatoes, the sauteed spinach???? The only reason we had pork left over was because we were attempting to be civilized. That small portion went on the train with us the next day and lasted 3 minutes into the trip home. Our thanks to the lovely waitstaff, barkeep manager and chef for such a wonderful way to end a special trip. Highly recommend!! read more

Visited Red Dot for brunch based off all the amazing reviews on Yelp. Food was decent , it was nothing stellar or noteworthy . We ordered for an Eggs Benedict / Burger. The worst part was sitting inside the restaurant and trying to enjoy a meal when it's freezing cold. I kept my winter jacket on the whole time along with a hat. My husband and I were looking for somewhere to have dinner on our way through the Hudson area. We happened upon Red Dot Restaurant and immediately knew that we had found a very unique place. We were kindly greeted by the bartender, Alana, whom I later found out through conversation, is also the owner as well. Very cool. The restaurant has a very chill and relaxed vibe, almost like a modern day speak easy. The building is historic and magnificent, from the wood floors to the big, beautiful windows! The food was fabulous. I chose one of the specials - Chipotle Chicken nachos - delicious! The waitress even let me taste the chipotle sauce before I ordered them to make sure I'd like it. It was mouth-watering. She also recommended the fish and chips and said they're one of the best choices they offer. I really wanted to try the nachos, so I stuck with that. We will have to try that next time. We love a good fish and chips! My husband went with a cheeseburger and fries. He also found this to be excellent and perfectly cooked. We wanted to try the calamari as an appetizer, but we decided not to this time because we really wanted to be able to finish our meals. Instead, he ordered a Guinness on tap. He was highly satisfied and so excited to see this. He drank it rather quickly as he said it was "perfect". Throughout the meal, we kept hearing someone singing to the music playing in the bar area. I neeeeeeded to find out who this was! What a stunning voice! I sat there through my meal thoroughly enjoying the angelic voice that was blessing our eardrums. We ended up finishing everything on our plates. We unfortunately had no room left for dessert, but we will make sure we try that out next time too. Overall, if you're in the Hudson area and looking for great food and a relaxed, chill environment, don't hesitate to stop at Red Dot. You definitely won't regret it! You may even be lucky enough to catch a few verses from Alana as your stomach fills up with all the deliciousness their menu has to offer. This place is a Hudson 5 star (I found the restraunts in Hudson to be sub par). The decor was cool as and stylish. I loved the table by the fireplace(electric). From past reviews I wasn't sure how the service would be, BUT on our visit we had excellent service! Our glasses were never empty and every request was meet promptly. The food - the lamb shank was by far the best dish I have eaten in Hudson! I don't know if I've ever had a bad lamb shank but this one was great. Very meaty. The greens and mashed potatoes it came with were excellent as well. We also ordered the endive pear and candied walnut salad. I liked the pears and walnuts, but I was not a fan of the lettuce. I don't think this is the restaurants fault as I didn't know what endive lettuce was. I also was not a fan of the Shelley vinegarette dressing but they quickly swaped it for Caesar. I wouldn't get the salad again but would definitely get the lamb shank! Overall- great service and the best meal I've had in the Hudson area... Hudson 5 star read more

My wife had the fish and chips and was very happy with her meal and I had a burger that was juicy and delicious...throw in some tasty French fries and what could be better for a quick stop for lunch while touring the local scene. Simply lovely! Very cute and cozy ambiance and friendly staff. Food was awesome. We had the incredibly tender calamari appetizer which was perfectly cooked. I had a shrimp Caesar which tasted spot on and not too over whelming with dressing or croutons - nice ample cheese and spiced shrimp. My husband had also perfectly cooked fish and chips - fish and breading were delicious- so were the fries. Our friend raved about the pot pie. We finished with some heavenly crème brûlée.
