This is my go to restaurant. It reminds me of an English pub. There are no tablecloths and the food is great and not expensive. I call it a hip free zone. The owner Alana is a wonderful host and I dig her sense of humour.

Tried this place based on the good recommendations I had seen on line. Nice bar with several tables available in addition to bar seats. Menu some what limited but there were traditional breakfast dishes, a few salads , a burger & various sandwiches. Husband had the Croque Moisire (?) & I ordered a burger. Husband enjoyed the sandwich as well as the beer he ordered ( none on tap while we were there). Ordered my burger "medium" which was probably a big mistake- although the roll, tomato, lettuce and onion were fresh, the burger was pretty tasteless and had a gray pallor. The fries served with both dishes were very good and portion was generous. So, not sure if I would plan to go there again. However, it might have just been my choice and my "medium" specification.

This is one of those truly GREAT surprises. We would always walk past, peep inside the cozy interior, review the menu and think "Hm this could be good but...how could thai curried vegetables, mussels marniere and a black bean quesadilla all be done well on one menu"? We took a chance one night and have been completely converted. The food is consistently impressive and there is something to be said for a place that always delivers on good, simple dishes with the highest quality ingredients. Hats off to the chef, Mark and the owner Alanna for providing what feels like a dying breed of restaurants that offer a cash discount, perfectly executed humble food in a historic space (ask Alanna about its past). What we can vouch for: the Caesar salad (with perfectly cooked chicken), the mussels (best in early summer), the fish and chips, shishito peppers and don't forget the fries and mashed potatoes.

    Thai curry veggies. So so.

Cute spot, food was alright. I ordered the endive and pear salad. The portions were great but the honey mustard dressing was overly sweet. I was expecting something a bit more balanced. My husband ordered the Thai curry and this was similarly flat. There was only one note to the sauce that smothered the vegetables. However the jasmine rice was very good. Finally, the butternut squash bisque was delicious, and I would recommend getting that only. The bisque was rich and creamy as a bisque should be, but also had elements of sweet, (maybe vanilla?) flavors, balanced with the nuttiness of toasted kernels of corn. The service was friendly.

Penne pasta-- forgot to get a pristine photo before we started to dig in!

We were on a day trip to Hudson and stumbled upon this cute spot on the main promenade. It was a hot day, and we needed a dog-friendly spot to get some dinner and cold drinks. Their back garden looked peaceful and inviting, and we were not disappointed! There is a water feature in the garden space, and since it was nearing sundown when we arrived, the owner thoughtfully turned on the fountain and lit citronella lanterns (AKA kept the mosquitoes at bay). The server brought out water for our pup, was so kind and speedy, and our meal was delicious! We shared an AMAZING penne pasta and calamari appetizer, and our expectations were met and exceeded. It's worth noting that their menu/specials differed from what we saw online-- we came in hoping for a plate of artichokes, but landed on the very tasty calamari instead. I see it as a positive though; it means they are constantly updating and adding fresh dishes to the menu :) We will be sure to pop in again when we are in town!

Great food. We ordered calamari for starters that came with fried cilantro and their dip which was so good. Ordered their burger with Swiss cheese and grilled onions with a side of fries and coleslaw everything was fantastic. Fish and chips were great too. Pork was so tender. We just walked in and decided to eat here since we were hungry. The food is great but the interior needs some work. Service was fast and efficient. Overall 8/10.

    The garden is so pretty.

Red Dot came recommended to us by the lady who checked us in at the nearby Collective Retreats. Being that we wanted something on the lighter side with vegan options, it seemed like a good choice. Hudson has so many top notch places that we later heard about and I'm a bit disappointed that we didn't explore more before coming here for dinner. Don't get me wrong. The garden out back is a lovely place to dine on a cool early fall evening, but I think I would have been happier if we had picked this place to enjoy a glass of wine rather than commit to a pretty pedestrian dinner. Vegan starter options include guacamole & chips and hummus. There's a vegetarian curry dish as well, but it didn't include a protein and I like tofu in my veggie bowls. We opted for the guacamole which was excellent and I had the hummus, which was really just OK and could have used more olives and vegetables. My friend had an equally OK salad. The service was... odd. After a gruff greeting, we were seated at an extremely wobbly table in the backyard. The fern to the side of it was literally in front of my friend's face. Moving tables wasn't a problem (it was 5pm so it was pretty empty). It was probably just her personality, but our waitress was pretty gruff the entire time we were there. She seemed to warm up to us after a while, but... yeah, it was odd and I don't love wondering if I've somehow offended a server (I am a pretty conscientious customer:) This isn't to say I wouldn't return to Red Dot, but it would never be a first choice for dinner.

What a great spot. Found it by chance, but it will now be a destination. Would describe the food as deceptively simple. Had the eggs benedict on a potato latke. Killer. Unique lighting, during the day in bar area, made it feel like a Vermeer painting. Highly recommend.

OMG! What a cute place. We drove up to Hudson, NY, to see our cousin who lives in Albany. I wanted to meet her mid way and this place popped up on google. After reading the reviews and looking at the pictures, I sent the link to my cousin and she gave it the thumbs up! It took us an hour and a half to drive there from Chappaqua on The Taconic State Parkway. The town of Hudson is just so quaint with beautiful antique and craft shops. The Red Dot has a bar, an outdoor eating area and a larger eating room to the right of the bar. The staff were friendly and attentive. Once we ordered from the Brunch menu our food was delivered quickly. I ordered the challah French toast with fresh berries. It was light and tasty. The berries were fresh strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. Delicious! Everyone was very happy with their food. Moderately priced. The bill including drinks and tip was around $110 for 5 of us. I will definitely return the next time I am in town.

Came for brunch/lunch on a Saturday and it was pretty busy but still enough room to seat 8 without a reservation. There was only one waiter but it still came together pretty quickly so no complaints there! I got the croque madame with a poached egg and fries which were both good.

Bacon and blue cheese burger with fries and a Blood Mary. Sunday brunch perfection!

These days, it feels like every bar has a cocktail menu full of creatively named drinks that require reading a list of ingredients just to figure out what you're ordering. At Governor's Tavern, if you want a gin and tonic, you simply ask for a gin and tonic. The only decision you need to make is which gin you'd like. I'm not much of a cocktail person, but I appreciate that not every place feels the need to reinvent the wheel. The place was packed at lunchtime, but we got lucky and grabbed a pair of seats across from the bar. The server who I quoted was genuinely friendly and welcoming. I ordered a Guinness, but unfortunately the keg had just kicked. She recommended the Samuel Smith chocolate stout instead and even brought me a sample before I committed to taste since I never heard of it, which was a nice touch. For food, we ordered the State Grill burger and the Nashville Hot chicken sandwich. Both were excellent, and each came with Belgian-style hand-cut fries. If you're spending the day browsing the boutiques and antique shops along Warren Street and want a drink, a good meal, and a lively mix of locals and tourists, Governor's Tavern is worth a stop.

It was hard in the past to find places for all of us but now it's even more difficulty because we still have my extremely picky BIL who has stomach issues, GERD, and a multitude of other issues, and now we have a vegan-ish person who tries to stay vegan but eats cheese, dairy, and eggs. So finding places to satisfy everyone is more complicated. This place met our needs and can meet yours: dog friendly, vegetarian options, and has something for even the pickiest of people. Me and another person got the strip steak, my husband got the Philly cheesesteak, MIL got the wunderbar burger, FIL got salmon burger, the vegan-ish got a veggie burger and one of the salads, which he split with his wife the SIL, and my picky BIL got the chicken sandwich. He freaked out over the sandwich because he wanted to know why it was moist and not dry. His partner and I were like, "You can have fully-cooked, moist chicken. Dry chicken isn't the only cooked option." But he continued to have a meltdown over his perfectly cooked chicken. He did eat it though. Family can drive you nuts sometimes. Anyways, despite the meltdown, I think we were all satisfied with our food. I did find the mashed potato on the steak to be very creamy but everything else on the plate was very good. Steak was cooked medium-rare liked I asked. Overall, the place is very good, excellent food, excellent service, and it was a busy night.

The perfect spring dish. Next was a Tuna crudo with ramp oil, watermelon radishes, fresh microgreens and toasted hazelnuts. Finally, their take on a Frisée aux Lardons, served with pickled figs. The lardons themselves were nicely crisped, and very satisfying. We had Negronis for cocktails, and a generous carafe of rose, served off the tap. All around one of the best meals I've had. I also have to say -- I genuinely do not understand some of the comments saying the waitstaff were rude or uninviting. Every female waitress we encountered was beyond gorgeous, cheerful, smiling constantly, and so kind to both me and my older great aunt. We got so many sweet compliments throughout the day and everyone made us feel very welcome. Michelle behind the bar was especially lovely and pours a STRONG drink, which we appreciated Honestly, I'm surprised they weren't busier for Memorial Day weekend, although maybe the bigger crowd came earlier in the day. Food-wise, the appetizers and seafood specials were very satisfying and obviously fresh. We ordered the crab cakes, soft shell crab special, their clam special (half clam casino / half clam oreganata), and a Bloody Mary topped with what had to be 12 shrimp. The crab dishes especially were fantastic -- those crab cakes were PACKED with crab and tasted incredibly fresh. I do want to leave a couple honest criticisms though. I was not impressed with the mussels in white wine sauce, despite multiple waitresses recommending them. This is a dish I order frequently in NYC and Long Island, so maybe my standards are high, but the sauce was unusually sweet -- my great aunt noticed it immediately too. It almost tasted like a sweet white wine was used, which just doesn't work for this kind of dish. The wine either tasted low quality or maybe wasn't cooked off enough. One other thing that disappointed me: the drawn butter is definitely not real butter. It tasted like a vegetable oil-based substitute. For a seafood restaurant serving fresh crab and lobster, I really think real butter should be standard. That said, I would absolutely come back here for the vibes alone. Beautiful waterfront setting, friendly staff, strong drinks, and fresh seafood made for such a relaxing holiday afternoon.

We were sat at a large table on the huge patio, and it was good, even though the live music ended a bit early. Our server was lovely, her smile never faltering even when my mother insisted we sing for a birthday boy at the table. Personally, I want to eat seafood anytime I'm near the water, and this was no exception. We shared oysters (solid, but very pricey), baked clams (quite small, but tasty enough), sesame crusted ahi tuna (solid), a beet salad special (well balanced and one of the best things we had), and fish and chips for my kids (solid). In the future, I'll probably stick with starters because those were a better bet than the mains. We shared the Cod Mediterranean and the Honey Soy Glazed Salmon. Both dishes were undersized, underseasoned, and overcooked. That's a bad combination. If I have anything to say about it, and I usually don't, we'll be back for drinks and apps but forego the mains next time.

Now first off, don't get me wrong, buying in bulk or sacrificing the quality of some ingredients to large suppliers like this is definitely a reality when running a restaurant. Even moreso in this day and age when ingredient prices are exorbitant. That said, it needs to be reflected in the price point. Pastries are arranged beautifully under cloches in the display case, but I could spot the premade, ready-to-bake spinach feta bistro (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/QZ119984/) or ham and cheese croissant (https://www.chefswarehouse.com/products/99971/) from a mile away. The avocado spread on the preassembled breakfast sandwiches is definitely the pulp from the 3lb bag from Chef's Warehouse too. I know that taste! All of that said, they had a few items in the case that I'm sure weren't from one of these big vendors. Which was great to see. My (yes, unsolicited!) advice would be to pare down the menu. Offer just a bit less so you can focus on the quality. Try and tap into some local producers if you can! That's one of the best things about the Hudson Valley... how much all the purveyors and markets and cafes support each other. It's clear too how much they care about the community. They're dog friendly inside. No WiFi to encourage people to chat with one another. Fine. I really want to see this place continue to thrive, it's just a bit of a bummer that a significant part of the menu including things that really should be fresh, aren't.
