The West Herr Riviera Theatre used to have a real, hometown nostalgic feel to it. It used to be a place of magic. Now, it's just a cash cow. I got this email basically warning me that all gift card transactions will incur a $3 fee. Is this fair? Absolutely not. How gross. Aside from this, I can't really say my experiences there recently have been great; the bar overcharges for drinks and the bartenders automatically set the card reader to a 20% tip on your beverages. I'm not kidding. They rush you to pay for your drinks if you're using credit so as to distract you from the automatic tip setting. If you don't catch it and change it, you're screwed. I don't mind tipping, I just don't like a place using scummy practices like this and essentially forcing you into tipping. Also...notice the lack of diversity in their show lineups: Mostly tribute bands. That's fine but like...there used to be variety, there used to be so much more. Anyway, I'm leaving this review as a life-long NT resident who misses the old Riv. It was truly magic. read more

I've been to the Riviera number of times in the last few years to watch cover bands perform. Usually the shows are quite good. Last year I saw a cover band for Crosby stills and Nash, which I really enjoyed. The most recent one was the cover band for the Bee Gees. Also pretty good. There have been renovations to the concession stand area I noticed when I was there last night for the Rocky Horror Picture Show event. But at $9 for glass of wine, I skipped out. Too steep. You can usually get a good view of the stage from most of the seating in this venue. I've never sat in the balcony. I believe you need to climb stairs to get there so keep that in mind if you cannot do the stairs. I have bought tickets in person with cash with no issues. Most shows are $20 a ticket. There is a concession fee if you buy with a credit card online. The burlesque show was quite entertaining before the Rocky Horror movie! Quite a hoot! Riviera, I could've done a better job and getting all of us into the theater on a cold night instead of making us wait until 9:30 PM in a line that literary ran around the block! Such a beautiful building, a real gem to have in our great city. The new lobby addition is wonderful too! Went last night to see Catapult, shadow dancers - they were amazing! All the seats in the theater give you a great view too. Highly recommend and we will be back many more times. read more

I came here a week ago with my mom to see the Shades of Blue, the Cyrkle, and the Lovin' Spoonful. The concert was great and the employees were too. They have a new bar, to the left of the entrance, that encompasses three storefronts. It has guitars on the walls and a good selection of beer, wine, and other options were offered. We went there for the Rev Horton Heat & their opener the surfragettes. The venue was clean, with many attendants to help find seats etc. drink prices were reasonable. Acoustics were very good. Went to the Riviera Theater for a short Pipe Organ concert. I have been to the theater before and heard the famous Pipe Organ but never really saw it or heard about the organ's history. This was a perfect opportunity to see and hear the organ. The organist did a great job telling the history of this organ and demonstrating its capabilities. Very fascinating. I purchased tickets for a tribute band playing at this theater in June of 2026 and was traveling from another state to see this particular band. The lead singer left the band after I purchased tickets and the theater said it has a no refund policy as "the band is still performing". I listened to the newest singer and it wasn't at all what I bought tickets for but the theater still refused a refund. False advertising on their part and I now know purchasing tickets too early means potentially not getting what you paid for. Word of caution....be sure to wait until the last minute to purchase tickets from this theater so you hopefully get what you paid for. read more

We have been to the Riveria with our friends many times to see the tribute bands. It is amazing how wonderful they have been! We have not been disappointed yet! We also saw Night Ranger and they were incredible! We absolutely love the new renovations and the bar area! They have a great selection of beer and cocktails available. We just wish they had a better, more upscale wine selection available. Would definitely recommend for a fun, affordable night out!! read more

The venue itself is historic and beautiful. The seat size probably a testament to the age of this building. We were squeezed into these seats and ended up leaving early because we were so uncomfortable. The seats are best suited for people who consider themselves petite. read more

We attended TOAST, an April 6th, concert and we were deeply disappointed with the experience. Number 1-the description of the concert was misleading. Sounded to me (and a few people around me) that at least one of the originals was going to be on stage with the band. Description should only include band members who would be present since the audience would only be seeing members of the band actually there. Obviously let the attendees know what songs the band would be performing. Since this was on a Monday and this was a tribute, unknown why the charge was almost double the copy band price. Number 2-Not only was it a copy band, the lead singer was also absent from the regular group. Brian, the stand in, talked way too much. Was cute at the beginning, but questionable when he kept droning on. We (which included a few of the audience members around me) were becoming increasingly impatient. We were there for the music. We weren't happy after the first set. The second set redeemed the band somewhat, but the songs were shortened, seemingly missing whole verses. After hearing the missing front man online, we were obviously cheated on this concert. This is a first-time complaint. Normally, the Riviera doesn't disappoint. However, for a copy band with a replacement of the front man, looks like the audience got the crumbs of Toast. The cost exceeded the reward. read more

Dave Fillensworth has banned me after decades of superior support. Personal biasty and misunderstanding. Venue has turned more elite and expensive after a pointless unpopular upgrade. This gorgeous architectural gem is located in the heart of North Tonawanda, NY. You can't miss the spectacular newly restored marquee sparkling in the night sky. Once you step in the door, you are swept away to a time long gone by, with the gorgeous chandeliers and beautiful artwork. There are many lovely volunteers just waiting to welcome you to the event of the evening. Make sure to purchase some popcorn in the lobby-it's delicious! We happened to learn of a free concert, performed by the incredibly talented Camden Church, on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ, on a Sunday afternoon in February. Camden played many varied selections to showcase just what this amazing instrument is capable of, and the audience was so impressed by his talent, that he received a standing ovation. Upon exiting the building, we were handed a flier with upcoming events. We will definitely be returning for many more outstanding performances. read more

I was excited to hear about the new renovations so I looked up an event that I was interested in & decided to see if buying in person at the box office would save a $5 convenience fee per ticket. The woman at the box office was extremely rude. She didn't speak clearly about what she was trying to do & got mad when the response was confused. She never said that an account needed to be made & got even more mad when I didn't know Why she needed name. I regret trying to buy tickets & I won't be going to any future shows at this theater. Customer service doesn't mean making customers feel bad for trying to make purchases. Cash required to avoid convenience fee so really all that was accomplished was turning me off to this venue. 0 stars. Do not recommend. read more

I attended a concert at Riviera Theater recently and it was thoroughly enjoyable. I thought I might feel uncomfortable in a mixed crowd (masked and unmasked) but I didn't. The airflow was wonderful, they had fans blowing facing away from the stage and the air circulator in the rotunda was going strong. The theater is well kept, slight restroom issues And slightly uncomfortable seats, but other than that it's a great theater. And the popcorn was delicious! read more

This is a beautiful theater. It has the grandeur of a major metropolitan theater, but it is strictly a local, regional live venue. The building itself is absolutely beautiful. Most seats at both levels are excellent. The acoustics are better than adequate. The stage is capable of all the effects that a stage Manager needs to accomplish. A magnificent original Wurlitzer organ is kept in fine shape, and is played upon for many live performances by very capable organists. Aesthetically and spiritually, you are stepping back in time with the original ticket booth and amenities, but technologically this place is kept up-to-date. There are nice restaurants and bars nearby to enjoy as you wait for curtain time, or after the show. I do enjoy this theater. read more

Had the pleasure of attending the Grass Roots concert here last week. The minute you walk in the door you get to enjoy the old time atmosphere of this place as you take in the view of the chandeliers and the small concession stand with staircases leading up to the balcony on each side. Another old movie house that's been restored and is now used for multiple purposes including movies, plays, and musical events. Before concerts and I'm sure other events, there's a small bar set up in the lobby serving beer and wine. A little crowded since you're also fighting the ladies room line but they were pretty fast. Then I love that before the performances you get to enjoy the mighty wurlitzer organ! Only negative I have are the seats. They're rather tight with not much leg room but I guess you just have to think of it as part of the charm of an old theater. Every year before Halloween they show the Rocky Horror Picture Show. It included a group that 'performs' the whole movie on stage in front of the screen. Lots of fun. A show I'd recommend everyone to experience atleast once in their life! read more

The Riv is like a mini-Shea's. It is smaller than Shea's, but still with some of the flare and grandeur of a stately old theater with vaulted ceilings and sculptural moldings. There is ground floor and balcony level seating, with the theater being cozy enough that there's really not a bad seat in the house. I spent many a year at The Riv as a dance mom when our daughter was still dancing, as our studio's recital was held here. But I much prefer attending a concert here to running up and down the backstage stairs for costume change after costume change. I recently attended two concerts in one week here. The second was "Simply Spice", a Spice Girls cover band. The Riv regularly has cover bands for all sorts of musical genres that come through. Usually for $20 a ticket, it's a great deal for a fun night out of live music! There is a Nirvana cover band coming up that I hope to make it to, too. The first show I saw in my recent two-shows week was Flock of Seagulls, (PHENOMENAL show! If you are unfamiliar, Flock of Seagulls is MUCH MORE than "I Ran"; crank up your Alexa and play their "Man Made", such a great track!) The Riv also regularly has shows for throwback and/or offbeat bands. If you have some older and/or lesser-known faves, check The Riv's calendar to see if they are coming through! A while back my brother, husband, and daughter came to The Riv to see the Mystery Science Theater 3000 road show and had a great time. Check the schedule for non music concert shows here, as well. Always ABBA was terrible! Played maybe an hour of ABBA then had what they said was a medical emergency. The intoxication or drugs were obvious. If it was medical they should have called it. Played a little bit of ABBA (that we paid to see) and fumbled through some terrible covers of music that wasn't close to ABBA. They didn't even know the music they were trying to play. This is unacceptable! I don't mind paying for a decent show but this wasn't close to decent. read more

Great looking early twentieth century theater very similar to Shea's performing arts center in Buffalo. They serve a variety of alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages as well as popcorn and candy and allow food and drink in the theater. I enjoyed the experience and look forward to coming back. read more

What a beautiful Theatre we have nestled in North Tonawanda. This Theatre boasts some of the most beautiful interior architecture that I've ever seen. It's acoustics are wonderful as well. My family came here to see one of the many shows this theatre offers and we were wowed by the experience. If you see a show that you're interested in playing here, I'd implore you to get tickets. They tend to be reasonably priced and you would be supporting a historic business with the kind of interior beauty that today's utilitarian auditoriums cannot offer. read more

I've been at the Riviera twice in the past month. Once for a Journey cover band and last night for Night Fever, a tribute to the Bee Gee's. The audience for both was mostly geriatric. I think it's ridiculous the security measures that take place in order for a person to enter this theatre. Armed security guards pawing through women's purses and doing pat downs on the guys for weapons. This practice is uncomfortable and uncalled for. If management is so concerned of a threat, then they should invest in metal detectors for the entry points like every other large indoor venue has in WNY. Just bull and btw, the seats suck !!! The Riviera Theatre is a Historical landmark located in the heart of North Tonawanda. This little theatre is a small town gem. When you enter the theatre you will find that the Rivièra still has its 1920's character and charm. It is Beautiful. The Riviera is popular spot for locals to see plays, recorded artist and local cover bands, but you won't break the bank. Our date night to see Chicago Authority was a sold out gig costing only $27 each. I would recommend checking out their schedule and show support keeping this theatre alive. I love the Riviera Theatre! It's such a cute and charming place for a movie or concert. The theatre creates a classic atmosphere with its painted gilded ceiling, chandeliers and old fashioned seating. The exterior of the building is painted with a mural of Charlie Chaplin, The Muse of Comedy and the Muse of Tragedy masks, and the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ (which is located inside the theatre). The theatre also has an old time light up marquee at the entrance of the building. I always love driving by it! The Riviera Theatre hosts a Summer Film Series every year. This year, the theme was Tom Hanks movies. My friend and I went to see our favorite, Forrest Gump. it's only $3.00 per person! They also host a Rocky Horror Picture Show viewing every year right before Halloween. They have a full popcorn and snack bar. The volunteer employees are all adorable and happy to be there. It's definitely worth a visit, especially in the summer! read more

I have frequented the Riviera theatre for several events over the years (most recently this past weekend to see Post Modern Jukebox). They have probably one of the most diverse and affordable event calendars around with several cover bands, movie features, and who can forget the great Wurlitzer! I've also got to go behind the scenes and tour this wonderful establishment and can see the rich history within the building's walls. I do wish that the seats had a bit more leg room, especially in the balcony area. Also, staff should help navigate the crowds leaving the shows better, especially when there are elderly people in the audience. The line for merchandise was blocking the exit and made for quite the traffic jam leaving the show the other night. But overall, I love the Riviera and plan on going there many more times in the future . P.S.- side note, always order tickets over the phone or in person, you avoid some of the service fees that way! read more

Love when they do Rocky Horror at Halloween time because they let you do all the fun stuff that comes along with the movie as long as you are not sitting in the balcony. We picked up some "good vibrations" at the Beach Boys concert on Sunday. The 2pm matinee concert was a blast from start to finish. We picked up our tickets at Will Call without a hitch. It was awesome that we didn't have to show ID because we both forgot our licenses. Our seats in Row F were fantastic! We were so close to the stage. While we were waiting, we were in awe of the beautiful architecture here. Amazing decor and detailing in this historic theater. I will have to come to a movie here sometime to take it in again. The seats were your average pre-recliners in the movie theater seats, but they were so squished together that it made getting out of the aisle very difficult. Minus one star for that. The only other problem was that the doors were supposed to open at 1pm and we couldn't get in the building until 1:10pm. Usually not a problem, but it was freaking cold!! Perhaps my favorite parts (besides the actual concert itself) was the organist who played for 30 minutes before the show. He was entertaining and definitely something you don't see every day. Concessions were average-- $7 or 8 for a water and a regular popcorn. Now for the show itself-- what a blast!! The lights were fabulous and the guys were rocking! I really appreciated that security let everyone dance in the space between the seats and the stage for much of the show. It was just magical. Can't wait for more great concerts at the Riviera. read more

It is a beautiful venue (although very cramped!) and everything about the show and theater ran very smoothly. My only concern is that they are not enforcing (or even requesting) masking among the staff or patrons. We are currently experiencing a major COVID surge in our area and people could not have been more closely packed together in this space. While I'm not terribly concerned about myself (I wore a mask and am fairly young and vaccinated) the majority of the audience was 50+ and unmasked. The performers also kept encouraging people to shout and sing. This just seems like a recipe for disaster. Why risk it just before the holidays when our hospitals are already nearing capacity? I will not return until the pandemic is under control. read more
