Matt's has spent decades as one of the most reputable purveyors of musical instrument sales, rentals, accessories and most notably, lessons. While I've known of this store and the Piorkowskis for some time, it's only within the last year that I've become a customer. Both of my daughters have begun lessons here, on piano and guitar. The staff is extremely accommodating, matching the student with the most suitable instructor. They will ask if you're serious about formal training, or would rather take a more casual approach. They will also work with you to accommodate your scheduling needs. The current rate is $16 per half hour, which is very reasonable. Payment is due at each lesson. If you have to cancel and can give at least 24 hours, you won't be charged, and you'll be offered a makeup date if you'd like one. The joint is always jumping - there will likely be at least a dozen students across two floors. It can get cacophonous in the waiting room, but the energy level is inspiring. No reviews for Matt's Music?! How? Why? After acquiring my rented violin from Monaco's, I decided I wanted to do lessons. My parents agreed that providing me with basic lessons at Matt's Music would help me get my feet wet. Did I really want to play the violin? Hopefully I would find the answer quickly. You get an hour (I believe this still holds true) of your teacher's time for twelve dollars. This was the price from my youth, so I almost guarantee prices have gone up since then. Essentially, you can learn any instrument that your heart desires. I've seen people tote guitars, sheet music for piano, flutes, trumpets... This place has about fifteen rooms and is amazing. I've been in almost all of them and my mind plays back the design of this store frequently. Every Saturday I would lug my violin to Matt's, chat with all the other musicians in a small waiting room, and play my heart out. I started in the basement. That was typical for violin players, as it's much easier to bring down a violin than a grand piano. My first teacher was amazing and beautiful. She played for years, performed with her violin at her own wedding, and really helped move me forward with the violin. I was timid in the beginning, but I immediately grew to love my teacher and enjoy every class with her. She moved out west for a time and I got a new teacher. When my first teacher left, I lost interest. That's when I made the switch out of Matt's for a more advanced teacher at Monaco's. However, I accredit Matt's Music for building up the basics in the first place. Several years later, when I was performing for All State, I came back to Matt's to practice with my accompaniment. My pianist was amazing and wonderful and I was so pleased that Matt's was able to suggest her in the first place. She helped me with the pacing of my piece and played wonderfully when I performed in front of the judges. That 99 from All State... one of my favorite memories from high school, for sure. I've never been so proud of myself for performing so well. And with a good pianist to boot! They provide rentals and have a good selection of beginner books for the boy or girl learning to play an instrument. They also have a summer festival where everyone who has played with Matt's for the year can perform a piece in front of all the families! There's about a hundred people that show up for this event and it's the first taste you get of performing on a stage. I'd recommend Matt's to anyone! Although all teachers aren't perfect by any means, it's a great place to develop a passion for an instrument. If you are looking for boring lessons where instructors just teach music theory... you'd better go somewhere else! Matts music instructors are passionate and downright inspiring. They are adored by their students. My daughter has taken voice lessons and loves her coaches. We travel over an hour to come here because they are the best!!! read more

There aren't enough stars for Matt's Music! My daughter has been taking voice lessons here for a few years and we recently added piano lessons. Where do I begin?....The staff is so wonderful, warm and welcoming. They are so flexible & accomodating. They are inspiring and encouraging --- and wonderful role models for the children. The postive energy level here is off the charts! They are always smiling and ready to help. Zach Carr is the Vocal Director at Matt's (he and his family are the proprietors of this wonderful gem in our community). Zach...he is truly a teacher/coach you would select out of a catalogue! He is warm & kind, friendly & upbeat, sincere & encouraging, always looking at the positive and keeping things fun and interesting! He knows his stuff inside and out. And after each lesson, he explains exactly what they did and all the skills they are working on. My daughter absolutely loves coming here and loves practicing at home, always talking about whatever she and Zach are working on. She had other teaches in the past at Matt's and each one was just as wonderful. They also have competitive pricing. We love this place and all the people in it! :) read more
