I shop at TJ's here, get my walk in at The Esplanade, meet friends here regularly and even do a little shopping here too. This is a cute, literally village-like area to have a nice dinner date. double date or meet up with friends. With the new artsy parklets in place, there is significantly more outdoor dining space and few less street parking meters. I still didn't struggle to find parking and wow, what a crowd recently. Obviously, wear your mask for safety and consideration of others. These restaurants and retail stores could not survive without our patronage. It would be sad to see empty shops and any restaurants closing for good. So please support local businesses (safely).

I like the RIVIERA VILLAGE and hope it continues to evolve, and ideally becomes a NON TRANSIT CORRIDOR that closes streets to all vehicles and becomes an open air area for pedestrians to walk freely. That, be design would be awesome. The restaurants here are diverse, and some are good, others are great and a few I can see going out of business soon. Parking can be easy and if you're willing to walk, it's even easier. They hold a HALLOWEEN EVENT here that's family friendly where they close the streets to parking and traffic and the merchants pass out candies to costumed kids during the day, starting at 4pm on Halloween every year. It's a nice community event. They also have (or maybe "had" if it's no longer happening) a "2 For Tuesday" 2 4 1 (BOGO) promotion at many restaurants that I used to go to about 5 years ago or so around 2010 I think, but then got busy on weekday mid-days, so haven't been able to check it out lately or confirm if that still goes on or not.

Another hidden gem in the South Bay!! A little uptown area of Redondo Beach (that's right near the borderline of Torrance & not too far from Palos Verdes). I love going there in the early mornings of the weekend. There's a ton of restaurants, businesses, shops, etc to go to, not only if you live right by it, but also to go for as a couple or on a date. You can go there, stroll around and then go stroll towards the beach...how good does that get? I see lots of active people out there, from the joggers, walkers, locals, bicyclists cycling through, motorcycles, the village comes alive! I love that Trader Joe's & Von's are there..you got coffee establishments and there's always something appealing or necessity to go get from there. It definitely is different from Manhattan & Hermosa Beach, however it does have that small town feel El Segundo has, but no definitely not and can not compare both cities, as Redondo Beach, has the beautiful surroundings within birds eye view (the beach for example) versus El Segundo being surrounded by Refinery, DWP, and Hazardous Waste disposal. So that little Riviera village is the uptown of Redondo Beach and it's just a cute little area to go venture in no matter what time of day or night :) Night's even better and romantic! Parking available, but gets packed, so you might have to park a aways, but not too bad, no comparison to Manhattan at all.

A Happening Place! A perfect destination to Dine, Shop & Relax.

[Review #817] 2024-016…read more Opened in the 1960s, Rolling Hills Plaza is an eclectic outdoor shopping center with restaurants & shops, anchored by AMC Theatres & 24-Hour Fitness. I first visited this plaza to watch movies with friends in the late 1990s. And on some nights with new movie openings, the lines were so long they wrapped around the building. Yikes! There's been a lot of turnover the last couple of decades that I can't remember some of the earlier tenants. A fav Japanese restaurant with a large diverse dessert menu had closed, replaced by Hakata Yamaya (renamed as Yamaya). Most recently, SHIOK! Asian Street Food (family fav for delish sandwiches & boba drinks) was closed due to downturn from the COVID-19 pandemic, replaced with Hanky's Hot Chicken, followed by Tap Society Brews & Bites (its sister Caps & Corks is still open) all within 4 years. Not sure why this particular spot always had high turnover. Bed Bath & Beyond is another former resident that I often shopped at for home goods, especially when I first moved to the South Bay. Although I no longer visit this AMC as much, I still shop & dine fairly regularly at the plaza: Trader Joe's, Whole Foods, Nijiya Market, Yi Fang Taiwan Fruit Tea, Mendocino Farms, Lunasia Dim Sum House, Stonefire Grill, Nice China Cafe, Pinwheel Cafe Bakery, Sidecar Doughnuts & Coffee, California Pizza Kitchen, Veggie Grill, Iccho Restaurant, Kabab Curry of India, Fanoos Grill. I'm sure there are others that I missed (supposedly there's 80+ eateries & retail tenants). While parking is plentiful, vacancies are challenging during lunch & dinner rushes, & weekends. Rolling Hills Plaza is one of the larger outdoor spaces for one-stop dining, shopping, & entertainment for the whole family... workout, grab a coffee, shop, dine, & watch a movie in one go.

Stores have been closing due to the lack of business in this mall. At current status, its a Ghostown! Shopping is really non existence. "Its rather creepy." Its a sad situation to see that so many businesses are closing down. There is talk that this mall will completely close for good, maybe a couple of years from now. Rumor has it that this mall will be demolished for condos or some type of housing real estate investment? Overall I would come back! Its probably a good time to shop at this mall now since everything will be in liquidation soon. As for now, every stores is giving some type of discounts. No congestion, no traffic and plenty of parking. The mall is clean. I advise to look out for some deals. I seen discounts here and there that is ridiculously great! Lots of history at this mall. Going to be sad to see when this place gone.

Review #606 2025-095…read more I'm backtracking my review count because the original #606 was for defunct Bird Talk Chicken that "it was removed due to the review & photos posted appears to depict a YEE" (I went back the next day because my fam really loved their food so it's unrelated). Anyways, the last time I've been to South Bay Galleria was in 2019, & dined at a few restaurants & shopped at a few stores: Sunny Side Up Deli & Grill (refer to Review #272), Fresh Splash (refer to Review #273), Cafe Meli Mellow (refer to Review #434), Crazy 8 (refer to Review #372), H & M, Payless Shoe Source, etc. Post pandemic, I only recently visited a handful of times for a Yelp event at French Touch (refer to Review #790), birthday parties at Wonder of Dinosaurs, Urban Youth Parks, & most recently, I went to an event at Orange Door Spaces with fellow mom from SBCS & watched a movie at the AMC Dine-In with my Yelp gal pal, Lily W. South Bay Galleria opened in 1985 & housed anchor stores like Nordstrom, Mervyns, Macy's. I started coming here in the late 1990s when I moved to the South Bay. I noticed declining foot traffic (likely because the food court lines have gotten shorter) since the departure of Mervyns in 2008 or 2009, followed by Nordstrom, & more store closures. Their foot court is on the 3rd level with a handful of eateries distributed on other levels. South Bay Galleria will be undergoing major redevelopment from its traditional shopping mall into a mixed-use complex. News vary from residential units, hotel, with commercial spaces & a parking garage on the surrounding parking lots, with the potential of some original buildings remaining, though a significant portion will likely be demolished to make way for the new development. There's not as much shopping opportunities/retail stores as there are experiences: Battleground (competitive multi-player story driven free roam VR experience), VR Place (10 station VR experience), QuestRoom (escape rooms), Skate Farm (skating rink), Funshare Arcade (arcade games, claw machines, ticket redemptions), Cherished Memories (elective 2D/3D/4D sonogram), Zen Relax (massage). Peekaboo Bin Store might be interesting, a sort of bargain hunt/discount, last chance store. Mall hours are short, & opened from 11:00 AM - 7:00 PM. If you're here for the movies in the evenings, park in the structure & exit at Level 4 to enter the empty mall (I was lucky to run into security patrolling the grounds to learn about this outside Q). I don't feel very comfortable here at night due to the parking lot's desertedness, but am glad to see security both times when I was here at Orange Door Spaces & AMC. I'm not sure if I'll be returning any time soon, but my kiddos are curious about VR & may stop by Battleground or VR Place, & possibly QuestRoom (are escape rooms still a thing?). Sad to see this once bustling mall fade away.

Review #977 2026-043…read more Village Del Amo is now a hoppin' & bustling business plaza since its new construction on the west side, bringing in new restaurants & businesses. The withering row of restaurants (aka Restaurant Row) got a face lift & slew of fresh tenants. Parking is plentiful, particularly on the east side along Hawthorne Blvd.; however, it can be cramped on the west side at Restaurant Row, particularly during lunch & dinner rush. The refreshed Village Del Amo is anchored by Hannam Chain Supermarket & BevMo! Beverages & More, with a slew of restaurants. It's quite unusual for a plaza to have more than 1 bank, & VDA has 4. Wells Fargo Bank is more mainstream than the other 3, whereas PCB Bank is a niche Korean-American community bank, SchoolsFirst Federal Credit Union is a member-owned cooperative for CA educational employees with higher savings yields & lower fees, U.S. Bank offers better APYs/specialized savings. There's several on or near Restaurant Row that I'm hoping to explore soon: Yori Tofu, The Kebab Shop, Board & Brew. I'm hoping Korean fusion Yori Tofu is here to stay; that spot has had high turnover in the past decade, likely due to its corner location having lower foot traffic. I'm mostly here for groceries at Hannam. Village Del Amo is becoming a popular dining destination, assisted by its anchors to maintain steady customer traffic. Its easy access off Hawthorne & Torrance Blvds. & proximity to Del Amo Fashion Center makes this plaza a convenient spot for dining & shopping.

[Review #805] 2024-004…read more I started shopping at the Torrance Promenade when I moved to the South Bay in the late 1990s. My former co-worker, Jayne, loved this discount fashion store (don't remember the name & the store is no longer a current tenant) that stocked named brand fashions at discounted prices. Originally built in the early 1970s, the mall was designed for 100+ tenants with Kmart as the sole anchor store, & a section called "Artisan's Way" dedicated to glass blowers, crafters, & silversmiths. Since the entry of Del Amo Fashion Center & South Bay Galleria, the mall was remodeled & anchored by Marshalls & Plums in the 1980s. I watched more transitions: OSH Outdoor Supply Hardware (discovered the lemon boy tomato here & started a small patio garden), Aki-Home (home furniture & kitchen essentials), Bally Total Fitness (workouts with my manager who was also my exercise partner), Office Depot (personal office essentials), Babies"R"Us (supplied most of my daughter's clothing & entertainment; essentials: bottles, nipple replacements, pacifiers, baby food & pouches; safety: car seat, stroller, booster seat), & David's Bridal (my daughter's one & only flower girl dress), come & go, or just go, since shopping at the Promenade. OSH & Babies"R" Us spaces are still vacant & it's been several years with no tenant on the horizon. The best additions were Trader Joe's in early 2002s when I started to transition from the staple grocery stores, & In & Out about a decade ago for its convenience to grab a bite after shopping. I think I ate onsite twice? I mostly ordered via drive-thru & enjoyed my burgers in the comfort of home. In the 2020s, part of the south side parking was removed to make way for Jollibee, a Filipino fast food restaurant. David's Bridal vacated, & will be succeeded by New Balance. I think I shopped about 1/3 of all the stores at one point or another with my regular or infrequent go-tos: Trader Joe's, In & Out, Marshalls, Burlington, HomeGoods, Carter's (my son is aging out), Walmart, Party City, just to name a few. Besides In & Out, & Jollibee, there's not too many food options are available: Flame Broiler, Jersey Mike's, Simply Salad, Togo's Sandwiches. The Promenade offers plenty of parking, but gets super congested during the winter holidays, & businesses with lots of food traffic like Trader Joe's, north side by Walmart & Marshalls, & In & Out. Sometimes I'm not buying a huge amount between stores, I prefer to walk the distance than hop in my car by parking in the middle of the 2 furthest (& drop off the bags as I walk south), but it's not designed to be walker-friendly, especially if you're walking from Walmart down to Burlington & need to stop at Party City & Trader Joe's. If you're seeking an alternative to the larger malls & off-priced retail, Torrance Promenade is conveniently located between the 2 largest in the South Bay & is likely to serve this niche market.
