Working with Doug Schonfeld at Chef Toys has been an exceptional experience from start to finish…read more Doug is a wealth of information when it comes to EVERYTHING that belongs in a kitchen. He has a way of explaining things that makes even complex decisions feel straightforward and manageable. What I appreciate most about Doug is how genuinely helpful he is. No matter the question or challenge, he takes the time to understand what's needed and always comes back with thoughtful, practical solutions. He's a natural problem solver who anticipates issues before they arise, which makes a huge difference. Doug is also incredibly responsive. Whether it's a quick question or a more detailed request, he consistently replies promptly and thoroughly, keeping everything moving smoothly. Above all, Doug is honest and trustworthy. His recommendations are always grounded in what's best for the situation, not just making a sale. That level of integrity is rare and makes him someone you can confidently rely on. Doug is the reason we love Chef Toys and continue to choose them every time here at Orange Coast College. His professionalism, knowledge, and dedication make all the difference. I highly recommend Doug at Chef Toys to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, dependable, and genuinely supportive partner in kitchen equipment.

I have a trusted knife sharpener, but wanted to give Chef's Toys Knife Sharpening services a try…read morebecause it's close to my work. Bad decision on my part. When I got back my "sharpened" knives, one of them had nicks and burrs. I don't know if you can see in the photos. The bottom part of the blade feels chewed up and rough. I had two other knives sharpened and they're not as sharp as when I've had them done with people who know what they're doing. I will only go back to see ask if they can fix the one with the nicks. After that, never again. I'm actually scared to have them touch my knife again, but it's want them to be aware of the lack of quality. If you care about your knives, call ALL SHARPENED UP (Orange County) or GARY'S KNIVES (South Bay and West Side) instead.

It took maybe 90 mins or so from start of class to chow time and we were ready to eat! I imagine we would have gotten hangry I we didn't, so I would recommend snacking before class!!! The instructing chef was very thorough and helpful. The food was on theme and SO good. We were surprised we could make such tasty bold flavors with simple everyday ingredients. (Our dish we Moroccan chicken night with couscous, beet salad, homemade ice cream with grilled peaches) Plenty of food to eat and even took some home. They were even so gracious to accommodate my vegan/vegetarian diet by subbing the chicken with either vegan chicken or potatoes (I chose potatoes). Flavors did not miss!! Would recommend and will be doing again...

Dear Sur La Table Management, I am writing to share my…read moredisappointment regarding a cooking class I attended on 1-24-26 at 4:00 pm at the South Coast Plaza location in CA. I have attended several classes at your establishment and have always had a welcoming, positive experience. Unfortunately, tonight's experience was the opposite of what I have come to expect. Our chef appeared ill-prepared for the class, which led to a disorganized environment. Furthermore, the chef was unnecessarily aggressive and yelled at participants when they were ahead of his instructions or, in my case, when I misunderstood a direction. This created a stressful, uncomfortable atmosphere rather than a fun, educational experience, which is not what we paid for. Additionally, due to the poor flow of the class, our food was cold by the time it was served to eat. I also observed that the support staff working with him appeared miserable, likely due to the stressful environment created by the chef. I believe this is important feedback for your team to address to maintain your usual high standards of service. I hope you will take steps to better prepare your instructors regarding both their preparation and their customer service skills. Given the nature of the experience, I would appreciate a response regarding how you plan to handle this situation. Sincerely, Theresa Smith

After cooking a casserole in the oven, the bottom of the pan cracked in a large circle visible on the inside and outside of the pan. I took the pan to the Newport Beach store where I was informed by the collective of 3 Sur la Table employees at the register that Sur La Table only has a 30 day return policy. I'm not returning this item because I'm unsatisfied with it, (it's a great pan). This falls into the Sur la Table Lifetime Warranty classification whereas this product is defective and should last YEARS...not 18 months. I have cheap Pyrex dishes that are 20 years old and have never cracked. Of all products sold at Sur La Table, I would think they would stand behind their warranty for a white labeled product, especially if defective. Since their store clerks cannot distinguish between the 30-day return policy and a lifetime warranty issue, I raised this issue one last time with their customer service department to see if they would make the effort to accommodate a loyal customer. Needless to say...the response was the same from their online customer service team. I'm DONE with Sur la table! If I could leave 0 stars, I would. Worst experience EVER and will now purchase kitchen and household items from Williams Sonoma and Pottery Barn only!

I ended up finding edible flowers in a glass jar that I plan to put in homemade butter for a nice visual appeal. I've only ever seen fresh edible flowers in some grocery stores, so this dried one is nice. The staff also made me a Nespresso as I shopped around. There was a lot of options for stainless steel and wooden cooking utensils I plan to come back and look at.

I had been wanting stainless steel kitchen scissors, but I refuse to pay the $20 price I had been seeing in the chain stores. I found a great pair here for less than half that price. The kind that allows you to separate the blades to ensure a thorough washing so there won't be any food bacteria buildup between the blades. I even found, and purchased, some small glass soft boiled egg holders. Who sells those anymore? They each have a removable silicone collar for easy washing. A small detail, but appreciated. I had to walk through the aisles twice to make sure I didn't miss anything because there were so many items to see. And if you can't find what you're looking for, just ask the owners for help. They will be more than happy to help you. So, I found a good selection, fair reasonable pricing, offered by a couple of very fine people. I got what I needed and I supported a local merchant. I'd say that was a win-win.

Whether you're a serious home cook or just enjoy discovering useful gadgets, this place is definitely worth a visit.
