Note, the later you come (closer to lunch'ish, the busier it gets). We got here around 11:30/12 and it was perfect. They have a wonderfully expansive menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner (they close at 6:30). I got a breakfast burrito with rosemary potatoes inside (no meat), for like 8.50. Big and good! The tuna taco was super meaty, not my most favorite tuna but still good I think I prefer raw to seared. The lack of parking in the area is hard but doable. Very small humble place you can almost miss on Venice Blvd. But don't miss it. This is the best Mexican Seafood restaurant on Westside. They have an array of seafood tacos, lobster, mahi mahi, cod, ahi, tiger shrimp, along with the standards all below $6 except the lobster. I had the cod and it was tempuraed, and flaky, sooo yummy. I also had the shrimp cocktail. It was in a delicious Bloody Mary type sauce. There were probably 20 shrimp, maybe Colossal 16/20 size for $11. My husband had the 7 lares seafood soup, in a big bowl. 7 types of fish, clams mussels, octopus, squid, salmon and shrimp. That was $14. We had a quesadilla and they have a salsa bar with 8 salsas. They also have blueberry lemonade and smoothies, and a pineapple green drink, which were good. No alcohol.Parking in Venice or surrounding streets. This dinner would've cost $100 anywhere else. I would recommend this hidden gem local spot to anyone! I used to live in the neighborhood and I would go to RJM every week. All the food has really large portions, healthy ingredients, affordable, and everything feels home-made and fresh. I came here because a friend of mine recommended it. She loved it so I brought my family here for a Valentine's Day lunch yesterday. I am SO glad too because this is easily our new favorite restaurant and I already have plans to bring my best friend and my mom here. I'm telling everyone. I was greeted by one of the cooks I believe. She was super nice and got us seated. We ordered and she brought us out chips, we helped ourselves to the salsa bar. I was hungry and ordered a lot but everything was SO good and so fresh. Handmade tortillas on the tacos, refills on the home made horchata. and my shrimp cocktail was DELICIOUS! The star of the show easily. Really fresh, large shrimp. Lots of avocados and cucumbers and onions and not watery but almost creamy. It was hands down my favorite. My kids gobbled up their quesadillas! They were large! Next time I'll order just one so they can split it. We took home leftovers and as we were leaving the young girl that was helping us handed us a box of chocolate covered strawberries. Such a nice sweet touch. ALSO our meal was so affordable. I have been a local to this neighborhood for a long time so i've seen this place have different business owners but I was finally able to try RJM Mexican Grill. I ordered two carne asada burritos and an horchata ice drink over the phone for pick up. Mind you this was the first time i've ever ordered from here so i didn't know what to expect. I got there and the place was very welcoming with friendly staff. There's a seating area outside and a salsa bar where you can serve yourself as much as you'd like! I wish I could've stayed to enjoy my food there but i was in a time crunch so i had to leave quickly. When I finally opened my bag i couldn't believe the sizes of the burritos, they were both HUGE, bigger than my head! I tried a couple of bites and indulged in the burrito that i fell head over heels for this place. Every ingredient tasted fresh, well seasoned, and was perfectly cooked. The drink itself was so well balanced with sweetness and some cinnamon that it tasted perfect; mind you im very skeptical in ordering horchata everywhere since i don't really have a sweet tooth for it. Since this place is really close to my house I really wanted to give this restaurant a stellar review just so that they stick around. After a couple of visits, however, I'm unfortunately left with mixed feelings and here's why: First off, the hostess girl at the counter is super friendly (which actually matters a lot) and also the portions were impressive by any standards - even just lifting the bag after check out I noticed how bulky and heavy the thing was - this was a LOT of food for what I ordered. Great value for the pricing by any standard. However, upon opening my food I found not one, not two, not three, but several pieces of twice-cooked meat, fish, fried food, and other foreign food bits mixed in with my food. I have personally worked in several kitchens over the years as a prep cook, fry cook, line cook, etc. and one thing I've learned is that finding food "shrapnel" in your dish is a clear sign of cut corners and questionable standards in food prep; (i.e. it was hard not to think about how many other people's leftovers were cooked in with my tacos and burritos....). Sorry RJM, I really want a neighborhood taco place to frequent but hoping you guys can do better. read more
