It's been more than a year since my first review and I must say, Pobres Tacos has one of the best quesobirria tacos in this area. They now have a food truck and have been practicing the recommended safety measures during the pandemic. Gone (for now) is their beautiful table spread but for good reason. Condiments are now prepacked in containers and hand sanitizers is available. I recommend you try this spot! But I also recommend everyone to add their IG account for real time updates on where they are posted but also if they have sold out for the night. I had visited this stand when I still ate meat. They had this amazing quesotaco with jalapeño. They didn't have it now that I'm vegetarian, but they were very accommodating. My absolute favorite!! I've been coming here for months now and I have recommended this place on my social media several times! Every person I have brought here told me they loved it. I am obsessed with their quesabirria taco (extra crispy). I add some onions, cilantro, that heavenly pink sauce, and some lemon on top. Perfection. This is my usual order. I had to stop eating for a good 5 minutes before going at it again. They also have three sauces to choose from: darker red Chile, light green Chile and the mayo ketchup sauce. Definitely above average quality for a street taco. The crunchy taco shells are a must have! It's $3 for a taco, a little pricey than on other street tacos, but they're very tasty. The sauces and salsas are incredible. The chipotle is my favorite and the spicy red almost gave my tongue a seizure it was so hot. Overall presentation of salsa and toppings is so cute. Friday, June 28, 2019 Came by today after having two tacos earlier at L.A. Birria. The tacos here are OK. L.A. Birria's were better. I just don't understand all the 5 Star reviews. Especially when Pobres's tacos were compared to Teddy's Red Tacos. Teddy's is by far the best birria taco I have ever tasted. Sorry Janet. Monday, Memorial Day...May 25, 2019 I was driving on Pico around 2:30pm today and much to my surprise I saw Janet behind the table that was set up with the condiments. I circled the block and parked in front. I was excited to try her birria tacos again as I was hoping to elevate my 3 star rating to 5 stars. But when I tried to order, Janet stated they weren't going to be open until 4:00pm. I really like the whole vibe that this place emanates and I want them to succeed but after first trying birria here and then many others I found two places that seemeso much better; Teddy's Red Tacos in Venice and L.A. Birria on Adams just West of Crenshaw. I hope Janet can get close to them in both taste and appearance. I'll try again but not today. I came back again today, Friday, April 12...to get the birria burrito, the burrito was OK, the flavor of the birria didn't come through as the mixture of rice and beans overpowered the beef. I really like the people here but I can't up my rating. I have to say I absolutely loved the consommé/broth. I also saw the gentleman in front of me ordered three tacos and they looked crispy. So I will come back again and get another burrito but with just the birria meat, I'll pay more to be able to taste the birria beef and not have it dominated by the rice and beans. And I'll get one more taco that hasn't been drenched in the "secret sauce". I'll dip both in that incredible consommé. I really want this place to succeed and it kinda looks that way because the reviews seem to be all five stars. I just wish I could agree with all of them. Late I did come back as Janet suggested. I did so anonymously, not to get free tacos but to try their tacos prepared "crispy". The tortilla was only somewhat better and certainly less soggy than when I was here last week. The meat also had less inedible fatty pieces. The prices are now $3.00. I wish Janet and her wonderful crew much success but these tacos are just not for me. I prefer tacos dorados...with a crispy golden shell that has a crunch when you bite into it. I want to come back to try a burrito as I get to put my sauces and other "stuff" in it and then have Janet finish rolling it up. Maybe I will have found my new burrito place. They are open Friday-Saturday & Sunday. Verify the opening and closing times as I heard Janet tell someone they open between noon and 1:00. read more

The quesabirria and birria tacos I had were top notch. They had this creamy red-orange sauce that I wish I got the name of but it was absolutely incredible. Their toppings spread was sophisticated. I was in the mood for some food truck tacos and ended up finding this spot during my yelp search. They are a street vendor, not a food truck so I almost missed them as I was riding by. Luckily, there is plenty of street parking in the area. I originally wanted chicken tacos but they do not carry chicken so the owner suggested their speciality which is the Quesabirrias (shredded beef on a corn/flour mix tortilla) and I added fried onions. Me being super hungry from work I stopped by and OMG that five minute wait was so WORTH IT!! My mouth literally waters every time I think of the broth and dipping the crispy tacos in there I actually stopped by this Sunday, I had to bring my grandma who lives in Oxnard Ca, a hour drive just to try these tacos. She took home 10 after she had 6 there that night. Her son is vegetarian so she took some veggie tacos for him as-wells she loved them. Stumbled upon this random taco stand walking home from dinner from another restaurant. We eyed Chef Janet grilling up some delicious looking tacos and couldn't resist trying some even though we were stuffed! Found out she only makes one type of taco and it's beef birria. Fine by me, i was super stoked to have a red taco and it did not disappoint! It is jam packed with flavor and the meat was juicy and tender. There is a table set up next to the grill with a variety of condiments to go with your tacos. Several types of salsas, onions, cilantro, radishes, grilled jalapeños, whole tomatoes, & chips. I think i could have made a meal of just the condiments! Ivan and Janet were very nice and wanted us to try their tacos for free but at $2 a taco it's already a steal! I can't tell you how excited i am that Pobres Tacos is within walking distance of my home. Their stand is set up on the south side of Pico just east of La Cienega. Pobres Tacos is an awesome street food vendor. This family establishment has been open only for two months on Pico, just east of La Cienega. But their cooking is on point. While from Nayarit, their cooking really reflects broader Mexico rather than the particular region. Their are super friendly, it is insanely affordable, and they have a clean place to sit. What more can you ask for? My littlest one had a plain cheese quesadilla. For $6, it was a huge burrito size flour tortilla with mozzarella cheese. It was simple and perfectly cooked. The oldest LO ordered two quesabirria tacos. The fresh corn tortillas are dipped in consume and cooked on the flat top with super tender birria and a bit of mozzarella cheese. They were outstanding, and they were about $3 each. I had the veggie taco, which was $2.50 and was the best of the lot IMHO because it had a FRESHLY MADE TORTILLA!!! Fresh masa pressed in front of me cooked on the flat top and filled with a mélange of sautéed zucchini, mushrooms, red and green bell peppers and maybe a bit of eggplant. I added some tomatillo salsa from the crazy fresh spread and had some fresh and tangy nopales alongside. It was as good as Mexico City. I also had the secret off menu stuffed jalapeno taco - a roasted jalapeno loaded with cheese that is melted on the grill and put in a blue corn tortilla. I topped that bad boy with some fresh pico de gallo and had some of their beans alongside. So delish! For $19, we had a very generous lunch with great service. The spread of salsas is impressive - from mild to very spicy - and the nopales are like being back in Mexico. I highly recommend this little gem. read more

What an incredible find this was for us today. I am always constantly searching for that taco spot that leaves you sitting there not able to move. I am always in the search for authenticity, in the meats, tortillas, and especially in the Salsa. This little street spot is that and much more. The chef is super humble, this family run and operated spot is all you have been looking for. The carne Asada is grilled on the spot, the Burria taco is scrumptious. I am only disappointed that I missed out on the birria broth. I ordered 3 tacos the birria and 1 de Asada. My asada taco came out first, the chef promptly handed me my taco so that I can prepare it and eat it while the others stayed in the griddle to keep them warm. The salsa de molcajete was the cherry on top. Spicy as hell but that's exactly how I like my salsa for my tacos. I can honestly keep going on about this spot. I highly recommend it. Ordered two "Quesabirrias" and an asada taco. Everything was delicious. The birria was juicy and extremely tasty, and the melted mozzarella was a nice addition. They also gave me some of the consume to dip my tacos in. The asada was also really good despite it not being their flagship meat. They had a really nice salsa spread, with beans, rice and a wide array of fixins for your plate. It felt like a family operation through and through.
