Birria Taco
Jim G.

This place was awesome. Absolutely will be coming back on a regular basis. Plenty of street parking, friendly staff, and crazy delicious food. The shrimp tacos were the best I've had in LA. So good. The asada was delicious; I would have liked the birria more if it had the asada meat in it Really awesome. Went back for seconds.

It's been more than a year since my first review and I must say, Pobres Tacos has one of the best quesobirria tacos in this area. They now have a food truck and have been practicing the recommended safety measures during the pandemic. Gone (for now) is their beautiful table spread but for good reason. Condiments are now prepacked in containers and hand sanitizers is available. I recommend you try this spot! But I also recommend everyone to add their IG account for real time updates on where they are posted but also if they have sold out for the night. Sometimes they sell out as early as 7pm depending on the crowd.

Birria tacos at the best. #1 for me in LA for birria tacos. Because it's so good better just put simple ingredients (onion, cilantro, spicy chili salsa for consome if you like spicy) and enjoy the flavor of real birria consome. Real deal. Fish tacos were very nice as well. Everything is really fresh.

Their meat substitute, lol!

I had visited this stand when I still ate meat. They had this amazing quesotaco with jalapeño. They didn't have it now that I'm vegetarian, but they were very accommodating. They had potato taquitos on the menu and were kind enough to make me a quesadilla. With all they're fixins, this was a marvelous meal! Thank you again for making my visit a pleasant one!

Tacos: $3.00 each

In a city of so many tacos, Pobres stands out as a wonderful neighborhood spot that will exceed your expectations regardless of your taco preference. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? As others have pointed out, Pobres is a quintessential neighborhood spot, and they really are the heart and soul of a city like ours. Everyone is so, so friendly, generous with samples, accommodating, and particularly aware of health and cleanliness standards that are common place these days. Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Tacos at Pobres are $3.00 each, and while that's on the pricier side compared to say $1.25 street tacos, these are larger than your average taco. Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? It's exceptionally rare that I get both surf and turf tacos at any spot in Los Angeles. Sure, it's easy to combine the two down in say San Diego, but up here spots usually specialize in one versus the other. I strayed from that trend here at Pobres having heard great reviews on both, and was really impressed with both the fried fish and the carne asada tacos. Good proteins, decent peripherals, and solid salsas. Single Star. Star 5: Would you be excited to go back? Definitely. Star.

Shrimp Taco ($4) - HIGHLY RECOMMEND

PS - fried shrimp tacos are beer battered so if you are looking for a HALAL alternative, they can also do them grilled :) and they were just as delicious!

AMAZING!!!! Amazing birria tacos! Mom and son shop, they are both sweethearts and so hard working! Starting their days at 7am with shopping and prepping!! They're open from noon to 10PM Thursday-Sunday. Birria was delicious and the meat so tender! Their topics are amazing as well, they have a wide selection of salsa, sauces, and topics that is all self service!

Crunchy Quesabirria Taco

My absolute favorite!! I've been coming here for months now and I have recommended this place on my social media several times! Every person I have brought here told me they loved it. I am obsessed with their quesabirria taco (extra crispy). I add some onions, cilantro, that heavenly pink sauce, and some lemon on top. Perfection. This is my usual order. I have tried their quesabirria burrito and quesedilla as well and they are also both delicious!! Chef Janet is seriously one of the nicest people I have ever met. I come here at least once per week and I love how she always remembers me and greets me. They have such a lovely family!! 5/5. Would recommend!!

**Reviewing the beef quesabirria and the cheese stuffed jalapeño taco- they are both very good. Definitely try the beef quesabirria. It's SO crispy and tasty overall. Props to the team for creating this stuffed jalapeño taco, which is something I don't see too often on menus. It's good but after taking a small bite, my mouth was on fire and. I had to stop eating for a good 5 minutes before going at it again. They also have three sauces to choose from: darker red Chile, light green Chile and the mayo ketchup sauce. I tried all of these AND the consommé on the tacos and I can't pick a favorite. They're all great! This is a family run business and they are so nice! Will have to come back and try their regular tacos and other items!

Definitely above average quality for a street taco. The crunchy taco shells are a must have! It's $3 for a taco, a little pricey than on other street tacos, but they're very tasty. The sauces and salsas are incredible. The chipotle is my favorite and the spicy red almost gave my tongue a seizure it was so hot. Overall presentation of salsa and toppings is so cute. Everything looks fresh and well prepared. Recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

Friday, June 28, 2019 Came by today after having two tacos earlier at L.A. Birria. The tacos here are OK. L.A. Birria's were better. I just don't understand all the 5 Star reviews. Especially when Pobres's tacos were compared to Teddy's Red Tacos. Teddy's is by far the best birria taco I have ever tasted. Sorry Janet. Monday, Memorial Day...May 25, 2019 I was driving on Pico around 2:30pm today and much to my surprise I saw Janet behind the table that was set up with the condiments. I circled the block and parked in front. I was excited to try her birria tacos again as I was hoping to elevate my 3 star rating to 5 stars. But when I tried to order, Janet stated they weren't going to be open until 4:00pm. I really like the whole vibe that this place emanates and I want them to succeed but after first trying birria here and then many others I found two places that seemeso much better; Teddy's Red Tacos in Venice and L.A. Birria on Adams just West of Crenshaw. I hope Janet can get close to them in both taste and appearance. I'll try again but not today. I came back again today, Friday, April 12...to get the birria burrito, the burrito was OK, the flavor of the birria didn't come through as the mixture of rice and beans overpowered the beef. I really like the people here but I can't up my rating. I have to say I absolutely loved the consommé/broth. I also saw the gentleman in front of me ordered three tacos and they looked crispy. So I will come back again and get another burrito but with just the birria meat, I'll pay more to be able to taste the birria beef and not have it dominated by the rice and beans. And I'll get one more taco that hasn't been drenched in the "secret sauce". I'll dip both in that incredible consommé. I really want this place to succeed and it kinda looks that way because the reviews seem to be all five stars. I just wish I could agree with all of them. Late I did come back as Janet suggested. I did so anonymously, not to get free tacos but to try their tacos prepared "crispy". The tortilla was only somewhat better and certainly less soggy than when I was here last week. The meat also had less inedible fatty pieces. The prices are now $3.00. I wish Janet and her wonderful crew much success but these tacos are just not for me. I prefer tacos dorados...with a crispy golden shell that has a crunch when you bite into it. I want to come back to try a burrito as I get to put my sauces and other "stuff" in it and then have Janet finish rolling it up. Maybe I will have found my new burrito place. They are open Friday-Saturday & Sunday. Verify the opening and closing times as I heard Janet tell someone they open between noon and 1:00.

SO SO SO GOOD!!!! I live down the street and just checked this place out. The Birria Burrito is amazing. So delicious and fresh. Everyone is super nice and the food really hits the spot!!

It was my first time here, so I wasn't sure where to go at first, but it's pretty easy to figure out. They have separate lines for tacos, burritos, and aguas frescas, which keeps everything organized and moving smoothly. I went straight for the tacos. I ordered two carne asada, one chorizo, and one al pastor. The condiment setup was also really good. Let me tell you, this hit the spot! I loved the grilled onions, serranos, hot sauce, and especially the curtido de habanero,so good. The carne asada was okay slightly on the tougher side but the chorizo and al pastor were really solid. Taco prices are fair, but the aguas frescas felt a bit on the expensive side. Overall, I'd definitely come back again.

Having been to so many taco stands, I think what makes Tire Shop Taqueria really stand out are the right-off-the-grill charcoal-grilled meats, the freshly made tortillas literally in front of you as you are waiting on line, and the free guacamole that comes with each taco. The ordering process is like any other taco stand, though one difference is here the salsas/guacamole are all handled by the staff. If you'd like more of something, just ask them instead of reaching for the ladle yourself. There is a separate area though for grilled onions/peppers and radishes you can serve yourself. I got the asada, chorizo, cabeza, and al pastor, and they were all so good. The asada and chorizo are specifically grilled over charcoal, and that flavor really shines through. I loved how meaty and tender the cabeza was too, and the classic al pastor hit the spot. They have large communal tables setup, so it is a great friendly vibe to enjoy your meal I will say, the surrounding area is not the best in LA, especially given how the taco stand is only open at night. The parking lot is quite small, so I parked on a side street that had some abandoned cars, but of course, if you are in/from LA, this is not that new for us. I would hesitate if I am a tourist though to make it out here. Anyhow, the food really is worth it here, and I can't wait to be back!

We found easy street parking in the neighborhood on 41st Street, and waited in line for about 15-20 minutes. We ordered the asada tacos. They pre-sauce your tacos, which was fine by me, but my boyfriend who can't handle as much spice would've preferred it on the side (so warning for anyone similar! they do put a little habanero on them, so just ask them for salsa on the side). I think I ran into a problem of reading too many raving reviews -- these tacos were good but I was expecting them to be mind blowing, so I was a little disappointed. I tasted the charcoal char, but kind of wished the taste was more pronounced, or at least the meat more seasoned. The hand made tortillas were definitely the coolest part, but I thought they were a little dry too. The ladies whipping those out are artists though. Actually, all the workers here have the assembly line down to the tea, and they definitely add a little flare for a show. I particularly liked how they had a lot of seating at this location, instead of just a couple stools lying around like most taco trucks. It felt more like outdoor patio seating than a normal taco stand. They could probably take more time to wipe down tables more often though. Overall would visit again if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way for the tacos here.

They have real Al Pastor on the trompo (the spit) so of course I ordered pastor tacos and a pastor mulita. I also ordered a few SUADERO tacos which you don't find just anywhere. I am still raving about the amount of meat and flavor of the food here, it's insanely delicious. Once you get your food you make your way down to the end of the taco stand where you are met with an amazing array of fresh taco fixings and salsas. It was my first visit so I had to get a mix of their tacos and burritos with the various meats they serve. It was a nice fact to know their tortillas have some lard also so it adds a nice flavor as well. + Burrito 2.0 (asada) + Chivichanga (chicken and beef) + Tacos (chorizo, tripe, cabeza, asada) I enjoyed the burrito with asada and thought it was good portion size for the cost. The guac, cheese, and beans pair well with the meat and has a nice grill on the tortilla. The tacos were a solid size as well but I was surprised to find the tripe as my favorite because they fry it and it adds a nice crunch/texture change. The cabeza was a close second with the stewed flavors. The chivichangas were also tasty but not the traditional chimichanga I was anticipating. It's definitely on the softer side as everything mixes together and there's not much of a texture change. Worth trying if you are curious though. I ordered to go so I didn't see if they have a salsa bar but I did have to pay $.10 per to go container which would be nice if they were free. However, I liked mixing their red and green salsa with each bite. I am curious to try their avocado salsa next time. Overall, I thought the portion sizes were good for the prices and I felt full afterwards.
