    Riding a new horse!
    Mark K.

I have known Robert for 3 years after going through 5 various trainers over 7 years prior to that. He is very warm and caring person and he has a really big heart - quite an asset these days! He treats everybody with equal respect - be it a 7-year old little rascal, or an older assertive dude like me. Most importantly, he treats every horse like his family member. We actually refer to them as "family". I think what is special about RJN Stables wherever they are located (we had to change our location a couple of times) is that special "love is in the air" atmosphere. Needles to say that our current location in Calabasas is top of the world, with beautiful arenas, tons of fantastic trails and meadows and really good compassionate staff. Come visit us soon!

Beautiful and incredible place . my daughter started going for lessons and now she goes to summer camp . Robert is such an amazing instructor, he is great with kids , such motivation and diligent person . Lili is beautiful and so kind and fun to be around . I highly recommend this place .

Robert is hardworking, honest and knowledgeable. In my experience, he works well with beginning to intermediate riders.

Jennifer and her team worked with Sophie over a three-week training program, and the results were impressive. Sophie now has great leash manners and has mastered all her basic commands. But the biggest success was the change in her attitude. I learned that her behavior was caused by a lack of confidence, not defiance, and Jennifer showed me how to adjust my approach to genuinely build trust with her. Sophie is now a happy, confident dog. If you're looking for dog training that goes beyond commands and actually addresses the "why" behind your dog's behavior, LA School for Dogs is it. 100% recommend.

She also worked on his place command, and now he stays calmly on his bed until released, which has made having guests over so much easier. One of the things that really stood out was how Jennifer took the time to get to know us as well as our dog. She found out we have a horse background and used that to our advantage--explaining training techniques in ways that made total sense to us. She gave examples that tied into the horse world, which made the process so much more intuitive and familiar. She also helped address Maverick's excitement around other dogs, which stems from his strong herding instincts. With Jennifer's guidance, he's now calm and focused on us. Jennifer is incredibly knowledgeable, patient, and truly cares about setting both the dog and owner up for long-term success. We're so thankful for the transformation she helped us achieve with Maverick!

My male Basset Hound has been attending daycare for the past 3 1/2 years and has also stayed for numerous overnight boarding visits. As a first-time dog parent using daycare and boarding services, I was incredibly nervous and apprehensive. I had so many questions and concerns. When I called Barks N Rec, Debbie invited me in for a tour and spent so much time answering my questions and putting my mind completely at ease. Her kindness and genuine love for the dogs were evident from the very beginning. Our pup came in for his Discovery Day, and honestly, he had so much fun that he didn't want to leave! That was all the reassurance I needed. To say they take exceptional care of every dog is an understatement. Every dog's individual personality and needs are taken into consideration each and every day. At one point, our pup needed special accommodations and separation from the other dogs after a minor procedure. Without hesitation, Debbie, Val, and the entire staff made sure he received the extra attention, exercise, love, and care he needed while he recovered. Knowing he was in such compassionate hands meant everything to us. One of my favorite features is the ability to check the live pup cameras throughout the day. I love being able to see who he's hanging out with and catch him having fun with his friends. And don't even get me started on Woof Woof Wednesdays! They are absolutely adorable. From puppuccinos and dog-themed arts and crafts to water play and other fun enrichment activities, there's always something exciting happening. Val, the manager, pours her heart into creating engaging experiences for the dogs while also giving pet parents the sweetest keepsakes to take home. The entire team at Barks N Rec genuinely loves what they do, and it shows in everything they do. Their professionalism, communication, compassion, and dedication are second to none. I leave my dog there with complete peace of mind, knowing he's safe, happy, loved, and having the best day ever. Thank you, Debbie, Val, and the entire Barks N Rec family, for taking such incredible care of our boy over the past three and a half years. We are so grateful for all of you!

In their BBB response, they claimed they contacted "our veterinarian." That is false. They do not know who our veterinarian is, and our veterinary office confirmed they were never contacted. The real issues remain unchanged: they admitted they failed to feed Whiskey as instructed, admitted they overbooked the holiday weekend and kept dogs in kennels on a rotating schedule, and failed to tell us our dog had been injured while in their care. Rather than addressing those issues, they chose to deflect. Our family no longer uses this facility, and we believe other pet owners should be aware of our experience.

    Matan Dog Training

I can wholeheartedly recommend Matan Dog Training based on our experience with our Rottweiler,…read moreSequoia. Sequoia spent seven weeks in their Board & Train program. She is a two year old Rottweiler who, despite a tremendous amount of effort on our part with training, socialization, and exposure to both people and dogs, had become increasingly reactive toward humans and other dogs. With a large, powerful working breed, that level of reactivity is something you simply cannot take lightly. I don't believe in saying that a dog like Sequoia is suddenly "cured." She is still naturally cautious around unfamiliar people, and she is not, and probably never will be, the type of dog that every stranger should walk up and pet. But the change in her behavior after seven weeks with the Matan Dog Training team has been dramatic. Her human reactivity is now virtually nonexistent. The lunging is gone. We can actually sit with her on a bench or at a coffee shop and relax instead of constantly worrying about how she might react to a waiter or someone walking past us. That alone has been a huge change in our lives with her. She is substantially less reactive overall, more confident, much better with commands, and extremely responsive to the e collar system they introduced and taught us how to use appropriately. Just as importantly, I feel more confident handling her and better able to provide the clear, consistent leadership she needs. The program didn't just improve Sequoia's behavior. It gave us better tools and improved our relationship with her. I also can't say enough about the people at Matan Dog Training. Matan Shaibi himself has built an incredible team and clearly understands dogs, particularly dogs with more challenging behavioral issues. Amelia did an amazing job working with Sequoia, and Heather, Michael, Josie, and the rest of the staff were consistently kind, communicative, responsive, and supportive. Throughout the seven weeks, I trusted them completely with Sequoia's safety, happiness, and well-being. That means a lot when you are leaving a dog you love somewhere for that length of time. They were professional, compassionate, reliable, and have continued to make themselves available when we have questions or need advice. I genuinely feel like Sequoia now has an extended family there. For anyone dealing with serious reactivity, particularly with a large, powerful working breed where the stakes are higher, I would recommend Matan Dog Training without hesitation. They understand that some behavioral tendencies are deeply rooted in a dog's temperament and cannot simply be erased, but they know how to work with those traits and create meaningful, practical, real-world improvement. We are incredibly grateful to Matan, Amelia, Heather, Michael, Josie, and the entire team for what they have done for Sequoia and for us.

I'm highly upset and disappointed with this company. If you didn't read my husband's review…read morealready, I want to explain my frustrations. My sweet 1-year-old German Shepherd, Oso, was scheduled for a 2-week board-and-train and came home under horrible circumstances. We've had Oso since he was a baby and taught him the basics ourselves (Sit, Down, Wait, Up, Free, Spin) using positive reinforcement. See Video 1 for an example. Oso has had high reactivity toward other dogs, which we made very clear was something he needed training on. The trainers kept saying that he likes to "pick fights" with other dogs. I understand Oso has a big bark, but he has never once been aggressive toward another dog. We understand aggression can occur, and I'm not a dog trainer, so if that's what you call "picking fights," so be it. (See Video 2 for an example.) In Video 2, you can also see two trainers come together to talk about Oso's dewclaw. They didn't even know what it was called and referred to it as "weird," which I took offense to. Keep this dewclaw in mind, because that story isn't over. Communication overall was poor. For $2,000, I would expect, at minimum, pictures or videos every day. Mind you, when Oso was home, I had a dog walker who walked him for 30 minutes every day and sent me multiple videos along with a map of where they went on their walk. With this company, the pictures we received were mostly just Oso sitting outside on their dirt patches. We received two videos of Oso on the dog treadmill, with no explanation until I asked how long he was on the treadmill for. I felt like I constantly had to ask for information, and if I didn't ask, it wasn't a priority. Oso also came home with what looks like pimples on the inside of his mouth (see image). He did not have these prior to going there, as I am very conscious of everything regarding his health and appearance. The facility may not have noticed this, but I believe they would not take responsibility for it. I'd love to hear the excuse they would give: "These things happen." On the last day of his training (go-home day), we were already struggling to make the appointment because my husband and I are both active-duty military and can't just leave work. My husband received a call that Oso was receiving his bath, and during his blow-dry session, his dewclaw got caught in the grate and RIPPED OUT. I can't imagine the pain he was in. They took him to a local pet hospital, which didn't even see him until SIX hours after his initial arrival. After many attempts to get in touch with them regarding payment, Matan finally called and said he would cover it and that "things like this happen." I would love to see the camera surveillance and a written report of what happened. I can only imagine what the excuse will be as to why I'm not able to receive these from Matan. Oso is home with us now and recovering. We are extremely dissatisfied and honestly can't forgive ourselves for giving this company $2,000 for this treatment. Matan, to make this right, a refund is due--or at least half. We should have known we made a mistake when we paid first and then signed the contract stating refunds are not given. You were so personable and reassuring over the phone before booking, which unfortunately fooled us. Never will Oso or any of us be near this company again. I hope this review helps other responsible dog owners think twice before choosing this company

We have two dogs needing training who are sisters approximately 2 years old and adopted 9 months ago. They also have a big sister, age 15, who needs no training but was hanging out to supervise. Ashley Bartlett was our trainer. Since we live in Santa Barbara, logistics for the brief pre-meet were more challenging as the Karma trainers for our area are in the Los Angeles area, but we arranged for FaceTime interviews. On the day of departure, we spent some time going through the details of our dogs and house, and then left our girls in Ashley's capable hands. We were gone 6 nights and 7 days, and returned to the dogs having basic loose leash skills (they are pullers), a better understanding of "sit", "stay", and "come", and the training basics to begin working on "down" and "leave it". Two days after our return, Ashley came to our home for a 75 minute follow-up where we worked on the training skills, tips, and a plan for how we will continue the consolidated efforts of Ashley's week of work with them. Karma Dog Training, and Ashley, were easy to communicate with, responsive to emails and inquiries, and overall seem to have helped establish a routine for us through their "boot camp".
