In full disclosure, we did have to have one side of the garage re-done due to some James Harding and a portion of the roof re-done (due to rushed contracting work), we still were really happy with the overall project. My friend had them build a garage in St Paul. She wanted me to look it over because she was having…read moreissues and was concerned about Sussel not doing the work properly. My first look inside I saw the concrete floor was not finished correctly. Know how the sidewalk or walkways you see everywhere outside? That's what they did inside. troweled crack control joints and the floor was not troweled flat at all. The lighting was done incorrectly and not according to plan. Not a single light was installed over the workbench but off to the other wall instead. the sheetrock wasn't hung in any timely matter at all. missing vapor barriers. She told me that they charged her $1500 for electric service connection which she later found out that $300 was what Excel charged Sussel. The subs Sussel uses must be getting shorted on pay for them to do such shoddy and incomplete work. Can't think of any other reason for them to not care about getting it done correctly. She said she has not been successful in getting them to fix anything and they sued her when she tried withholding the last payment. I really feel sorry for her getting taken by a company that really does shoddy work. I've read other reviews about Sussel and it really seems to be about which subs they use. My advice? Hire your own subs. Make sure everyone sticks to the blueprint.

We…read morewent to them for an estimate after getting the first bid from another contractor and I am so glad we did. They were responsive, on time, on budget and they even take credit cards. The garage roof is perfect at half the price of our first bid. After the garage project, we unfortunately found a problem with a roof truss on the house and had to get it fixed quickly. Again, Wonderwoman was responsive in evaluating the issue, gave us two different project scenarios and explained everything along the way. Big repair jobs are scary. You just don't know (and neither do they) what you are getting into until you begin the project. The fact that they walk you through it step by step, including contingencies and worst-case scenarios makes it a lot less scary. And their prices are very reasonable. Highly recommend!!!

Wonderwoman came to the rescue! They were responsive, fit this job into their schedule, and picked up my new doors for me. The best part, however, was the installation. It took two days for both doors, but the precision and attention to detail just blew me away. They addressed issues, like a missing floorboard, that were not strictly part of the job but they clearly wanted my entryway to look perfect. And it does! They were true to the bid and the price was very reasonable. I highly recommend them. I can't wait to hire them again.

Much to our surprise, three of them recommended the same company, College City Design, Build and Remodel. We called them and Dale, one of the owners came out. He didn't seem like a salesman. He wasn't trying to get us to make a decision and sign a contract. Rather, it was quite the opposite. He asked questions, took a lot of notes and asked if we would like to have Rebecca, their Lead Design Consultant stop by and help us with some design ideas. She really had some great ones. Then she scheduled selection meetings for everything we were replacing and she was terrific. We met with other remodeling companies but they didn't seem nearly as professional or as trustworthy. College City wasn't the cheapest but we were more concerned with our new bathroom being functional for our needs and the quality of workmanship rather than entrusting our home to a company that we didn't feel as comfortable working with or one that might not do things quite right just to give us a lower bid. We are delighted with our decision to select College City for a variety of reasons. Dale, the owner, kept each and every promise that he made. At first, my wife was concerned about dust but they did a great job of covering the floor leading to the bathroom and installed a floor to ceiling plastic cover around the work area. When they were done, they cleaned everything around the work area and it was spotless. Buzz, the Project Manager was better than we could have ever imagined and he's really a good guy. If we had a question or concern, he was immediately responsive. Every facet of the job was done to our complete satisfaction and we will definitely use them again if we have another remodeling project.

College City flunks out. This company was more like fraternity row. The level of disrespect and…read morecarelessness only continued to grow. The owner could have cared less about how his brand was being represented and instead blamed the homeowner for every failing of his project manager Buzz ( they only have 2 pm so you get a 50/50 chance of getting this guy.)On day one they caused the ceiling to leak because Buzz forgot the premise of the remodel. Then Buzz put the plumbing on the wrong wall because "he forgot". Then the carpenter installed things blatantly crooked and required three visits to fix. Then they forgot to have the painter come out until everything was installed, thus requiring three sessions to fix paint that was done sloppily or not at all. They has no idea when employees didn't show up without us telling them.Then they hung the lights upside down requiring another visit. When things were questioned the pm Buzz would blow it off, say he forgot or yell at me in my own home saying;" I don't care" over and over. Buzz then mistakenly sent derogatory texts to me that were intended to other employees about us. When I brought that to the attention of the company, they also couldn't care less that this is how paying customers are treated. When we thought it was finally over, the plumbing didn't work so an inspector and plumber needed to come out. The company tried to blame us until the plumber said it was most likely them leaving the drain uncovered during the project that caused the inevitable. Just another careless step by this company. When our concerns were expressed ,and rightly so, there was never accountability even though at time they would apologize. When we brought another tradesmen in he was disgusted by the sight he saw and the carelessness. So much for "treating us like we were the only one they were working with." Perhaps since out remodel wasn't bringing in as much $$ we were not as important? When my mom fell on their tart breaking her hip, we learned from the caregivers that they should have been able to take it down each night, but chose not to. They were told at signing not to smoke on premise due to severe allergy ( epipen) and they did it anyway because Buzz for got to tell anyone. The list goes on.Perhaps they shouldn't take on more clients than they can remember. MY advice is to skip the college boys and go to the professionals.
