We were looking for a place to eat near Barrington stage, and lots of places closed on Tuesdays. We decided to take a chance on RJ's and were extremely pleasantly surprised - the place looks like bar and grill, but the food was very good. We took a chance on fish, and it was beautifully prepared - service was great and we wish we had time for dessert... oh, and a good list of wines by the glass. Definitely a winner read more

I had a great meal here with a group of friends and families. Our waiter, Taylor, was terrific: attentive, professional, and with a nice sense of humor which made dinner a special experience. Holy moly was this bad. We took our granddaughters to Applebee's the night before and that was better and Applebee's was bad! My husband had the calamari it wasn't seasoned and was overcooked. I ordered crab cakes I got one the size of a half dollar with wilted arugula and uncooked corn. Our entrees were even worse. Burnt eggplant with one piece of mozzarella. Osso bucco was tasteless. Chef definitely needs help with seasoning. Waitress needs training so bad we had to point to our selections. My water glass had lipstick stains to top it off. Was recommended by a local store owner who we frequent every fall so thought it would be great as he knows our taste. Don't waste you time or money here. Read their story about being from Long Island and owning restaurants there blah blah blah. It's all hype, I work in NY and this place wouldn't survive. We arrived right on time for our reservation, 5 people standing in the entrance no host. After 5-6 min someone showed and sat 3 and turned away the other couple as they were walk ins, place wasn't full so definitely a staffing issue. We were told it would be a few minutes. After 10 mins more another person showed up that looked like management, by this time two more couples were waiting. He sat us, ny layout, tables close together then we waited for a waitstaff for about 6 minutes. The waitress had the enthusiasm and personality of a brick. In fact everyone working there came across miserable. We were already on alert and almost left but since it was Sunday after 6pm we stuck it out. No bread was brought out though it was on other tables, we got after asking and it was underwhelming with butter in plastic cafeteria packs. Ordered drinks and got a half full martini glass with salad olives, sure sign of a place charging high prices and cutting corners. I ordered the NY strip and my wife ordered the chicken Marsala. No apps as we didn't want to waste additional time and money being disappointed. I asked for medium (pink) steak was mostly grey, weird cut thin on one end and double thick on the other, came with one small ice cream scoop of "mashed potato's" they were bland and the vegetable medley I didn't bother to try. My wife's Marsala was a fail. We brought the meats home for the dog, got the bill (didn't even have a check holder available) and got out of there. Did tip the waitress 20%, not her fault no one trained her and the kitchen doesn't have their act together. $90+ For a maybe $40 dinner, they're charging 4-5 star dinner prices in Pittsfield and cutting corners, being cheap on the back end to fatten their margins. Worked in the biz for years and this is the worse business model. Save your money and go to the District or Trattoria Rustico even Christainsen's at jimmy peak is a better meal for the price. If I could give 6 stars I would. The veal Parmesan was to die for and don't even think about asking for it tomahawk style. Kenneth kept us topped up and all our wine decanted. It just doesn't get better than this. The bread is good too read more

My wife and I decided to try RJ's for dinner yesterday. We should have gone somewhere else. The food was mediocre at best. My wife's lasagna didn't have much meat in it, and was presented basically flattened out in a bowl. I tried it, and found it to be very salty. I can get better lasagna at a diner not far from home for half the price, and that includes soup and salad. The tortellini in my tortellini carbonara was overcooked, and the some of the cubes of what was supposed to be ham were actually nothing but fat. When we got the check, I was charged $8 for a glass of wine that was $7 on the menu, and there was a 3% surcharge for using a debit card. My wife didn't finish her drink, and had to take the rest of it home in a soup container because there were no "to go" cups. We will be going elsewhere in the future. read more

We wanted to try the new RJ's since the Rainbow had been a good choice for decades through all the re-vamps. We made reservations for Friday night and were seated promptly. the waiter brought water and a mingy plate with five small bits of stale bread and five little pats of butter, no olive oil. I was beginning to think maybe another place would have been better. Drinks were ordered ; mine a glass of wine, herself had a special cocktail which she found good. The others at the table are fans of beer. Unfortunately, the waiter had no idea what was available. Later we saw other customers get a beer list. We ordered appetizers all around, I had the calamari with hot peppers. It was done perfectly, tender and hot, a salad was ok, shrimp cocktail was fine and the lobster bisque was pronounced good. My wife's clam chowder was the worst I have ever had in 78 years. It was inedible; thin watery, no clams, no potatoes, and a disgusting tasting broth. A spoonful was enough to question if the "chowder base" was just heated and served. It was positively nasty. The entrees were much better. I had the Veal Francaise which was about the best I ever had. Herself's lasagna almost made up for the awful clam thing. The other three entrees were pronounced quite good; veal parm, a mac & cheese dish and spaghetti. The service was abysmal. No one ever came back to ask if we wanted another drink or some bread or even water. There must be a severe shortage of help. We waited a full 45 minutes from the time of ordering our entrees till they were presented. We understand that there might not be enough kitchen staff [all our entrees were delivered hot and fresh] but the front of house need better training. Bread should be fresh, Italian restaurants should serve olive oil with bread. If there is to be a long wait, the wait staff should let the diner know that and maybe offer some water or additional bread ar even if we wanted to arder another drink. He did come by and noted that our drink glasses were all placed together, he continued walking and disappeared for the better part of 45 minutes. We skipped dessert, having been nearly three hours at table. Will we go back? Maybe, but the memory of the less than welcome atmosphere and the really, really nasty chowder will certainly factor in. read more

I really wanted to like this new restaurant and support new local business but to be frank the food was not good. I knew there was service issue going into it but had saw that the food was worth the wait on other people's comments . Our meals were not good. I ordered chicken it said it had bones but there was tiny bones in it that you can not see at is covered in dark glaze that was salty and sausage. It was way over cooked and dry. There was a puddle of grease around the plate. Even the mixed vegetables which where fresh was not cooked through some were look warm and the broccoli was cold. My fiend had the salmon and it was over cooked and dry. The sauce was good but not enough of it. The risotto was like paste and not good. The waitress took our order and dropped off our bread then never saw her again. I did not have water with meal and was able to get the owners attention at the end to get some water before I choked on the dry chicken and bones. I really wanted it to be good food but it was probably one of the worst meals I have had in some time. We asked another waiter to bring us bill and no one ever asked how was your meal. read more
