The Alta Salad with shrimp added

Alta is a MUST when you're in the Berkshires! The food was outstanding, as was the service. This was a top-ten experience for us, ever! The atmosphere is warm and cozy, and our server was really so kind and knowledgeable. The food portions were perfectly sized and delicious!!

Excellent food and service. We absolutely loved our meal. Great vibe and everything was top notch.

I don't know much about the area but after some brief research Alta seemed like one of the places we should make sure to visit during a short stay in the Berkshires. We were able to snag a reservation for 6pm on a Wednesday. The staff were exceptionally friendly, especially the host. The clientele is definitely of a post-retirement age. A lot of walkers around. Like I said already, the service was excellent. The cocktail menu was also enticing. I ordered Lisa's Favorite (house jalapeno infused tequila, agave, muddled orange and cilantro, lime juice) and idk who Lisa is but we have very similar taste. GF ordered the Cherry Rose Gimlet with gin, lime, tart cherry, and rose syrup. These cocktails were not only a sight to behold but were some of the best cocktails I have ever had. They weren't too strong or too sweet. The flavors were balanced perfectly. Really outstanding drink program. We started things off with the burrata. The toast with that (arugula?) pesto topped with the burrata was so fucking good. The toast was surrounded by a sea of strawberries and cherry tomatoes in a balsamic like dressing that I unfortunately got a touch of on my shirt sleeve. Ugh. I could hae done without the strawberry and tomato thing but the rest was very good. I LOVE the vegetarian options, the possibility of having tofu as a protein in addition to the more standard animal based options. I ordered the spaghetti with tofu. The serving was GIGANTIC. Like an entire plate full of pasta and two massive slabs of grilled tofu. You definitely get your money's worth. When I put it in a box (and then subsequently left in the hotel fridge the next day) the box was legit heavy. It would have been a nice tool if I had been attacked on the way home but this does seem like a low crime area. My only criticism was that I wasn't particularly fond of the flavors of the pasta. It was a little sweet and I would have preferred more of a savory/umami direction with spaghetti but I am very opinionated regarding when and where things should be sweet. There is a time and place. Ice cream? Yes. Candy? Yes. Popcorn? No. Spaghetti? No. I will say that I appreciated that they didn't salt the shit out of everything just to make it taste good. I can see why people love this place, I think it's a very solid spot, I just probably ordered the wrong thing. I almost forgot, GF ordered the trout special which she seemed to really enjoy.

On vacation, and per recommendation from our hotel decided to come here. Definitely, glad we came here. We sat down and we quickly got our water and bread. Shortly after we ordered drinks. Our waitress told us the specials and gave us a moment to think it over. My husband and i decided to share the smoked braised brisket - beautiful presentation. My husband had the pork cheeks bourguignon and I had the special- rainbow trout with mashed potatoes, spinach, etc. Both dishes came out hot and both were delightfully satisfying. The manager even came over to check on us and to make sure we were having a good meal and that service was good. I was very appreciative of his attentiveness. We ended with the chocolate mi-cuit. Perfect indulgence to share. Overall, excellent meal. For anyone in the area, this is definitely a fine dinning experience.

Cosy and welcoming. Highly attentive staff. The tofu appetizer was fantastic! Loved the cod entree! No wonder the ratings are so good! Top notch!

My husband and I enjoyed a lovely dinner while visiting the scenic town of Lenox with its beautiful Berkshire Botanical Garden, Ventfort Gilded Age Mansion and of course, the famous Tanglewood venue nearby. We were graciously greeted by the host and very good server. For dinner we enjoyed - Mediterranean salad and Foie Gras to start. For entrées, I enjoyed the seared Duck and hubs enjoyed the Fettuccine pasta. Both were accompanied by excellent wine recommendations that complimented the cuisine. To finish for dessert we had the Chocolate Mi-Cuit and ice cream for my birthday celebration. It was a wonderful evening. Thank you!

You can't go wrong with anything on the menu here! We each started with a wine flight of 3, pre-selected by the staff. All of the wines were incredible and a generous serving for $18. The fresh bread and butter just melts in your mouth. We shared a mushroom appetizer that was so tasty, we ended up using the mushroom sauce on our bread, omg! I enjoyed the special - a steelhead trout over potatoes and asparagus with an amazing chive sauce. We were celebrating our anniversary and the server brought out two pistachio macaroons, nice touch and so thoughtful. Alta knows hospitality! During our meal, the owner stopped by to check in on our experience and even provided some tips for preparing fish at home. 100/10!

Wonderful atmosphere for a casual evening in Lenox. Service was polite and attentive and made us feel welcome. Unfortunately we made the "mistake" of eating a late lunch so the more substantive options escaped us this time. That didn't prevent us from trying some delicious wine with appetizers that were on point.

Upon entering my wife and I were graciously greeted by the host. He was kind and genuinely happy to serve us. We were shown to our table and met by Carolyn our server. She was wonderful and attentive from start to finish. She offered suggestions, specials, and helped pair our wines. I ordered the duck and my wife the tenderloin, both were cooked to perfection and beautifully presented. They were delicious and hot. We had a wonderful dinner and dessert was fantastic too. The Paris-Brest and Chocolate Mi-Cuit were delicious and finished the meal off nicely. The ambience was comforting and inviting and not to over the top, just perfect. We really enjoyed our meal and dinning experience and highly recommend Alta!

Lenox has some really cool spots and Ombra is one of them. Recommended by a local, we stopped here on Valentine's Day after our dinner for a nice glass of wine. The place was crowded but luckily a few people were leaving so we scored some seats at the bar. I ordered a glass of Nebbiolo from Italy which was good. My husband had a beer. The place is so cute and very romantic with dim lights, a great wine selection and their food looked so good. Unfortunately, we were so full that we did not end up ordering anything. Although, the french fries were calling my name. Ombra is a place that I could see us coming to almost every week and not getting tired of it. We met a local who is very nice and told us how Ombra is very popular. I think we will have to come back in the spring/summer to get those french fries :) If you are ever in Lenox definitely make your way to Ombra for a nice glass of wine or try a cocktail. This is the perfect date night spot for sure whether you start or end your evening here, you will be happy! Cheers~

Our food fell on it's face. We went based on a personal recommendation and backed by YELP reviews. This was my first big disappointment on YELP. We ordered bruschetta and meatballs for apps. Bruschetta was a bit too charred but ok. Meatballs arrived.... Gray balls sitting on ricotta and oil with an herb and shallot crumble. Meatballs were meh and topping was bitter like burnt garlic and onion. Table bread, delicious. Beverages, delicious. Entrees we were split 50/50. Eggplant parm was very tasty and red sauce tasted fresh and well seasoned. My chicken marsala with creamy polenta was very disappointing. Instead of marsala forward it tasted of mushroom gravy, chicken dry with hard edges and polenta you could cut and chase chunks around the plate. Not a bit like polenta should be. Dessert was warm ricotta cake with gelato. Gelato was essential to this dessert as the lemon sauce was so intensely tart and sour it was near inedible without some buffering by the gelato. Value wise it would have been a fairly pricey meal by our standards even if the food was good. However price point is more palatable when the food is.

We ordered the bread and butter off the menu (only way to get bread) and the butter was individually wrapped in packets labeled Sysco. It was too salty and not good at all. We adore the butter in France and expected better from a boutique French restaurant. We also experienced the owner as being quite argumentative and we experienced his manner as condescending when we made what we thought were two fairly normal requests. Two requests that this restaurant had honored in the past under previous ownership (but we were unaware of the change of ownership). Our experience was that the new owner belittled our requests. One, to cook the oysters (my mother can't medically eat raw oysters but adores them if they can be cooked. And this was a special birthday dinner for her.) And a request for organic wine which we had had at this restaurant before. (Non-organic wine gives her a headache.) We also found the owner quite argumentative and experienced his manner as condescending when we made what we thought were two fairly normal requests. **In response to the restaurant's comments below, the issue was not that he said no; it was the way in which we were spoken to. (My mother actually left the restaurant for a bit to collect herself but chose to come back in for the meal. I wish we had just left.) The waitress was lovely and attentive. She was professional in all of her interactions with us and we were very grateful for her kindness. The eggs mayonnaise was just ok (could have made better ourselves). The ratatouille was quite disappointing, no depth or real flavor- definitely would have been tastier if we had made it ourselves. The branzino was the only highlight of the meal yet they had left a cluster of the green bean stems on the plate... ? On purpose? The night before we had an excellent dinner at Alta in Lenox Center. Don't hesitate to go there! Cafe Triskele used to be consistent and excellent. Unfortunately, our experience this time was very different. ** My comments below were added after the restaurant's response: I have made a few minor edits above to clarify my original review. I would also like to note that the person who posted the restaurant's response below was not present during the interactions described above. And at no point during the evening was an apology offered or did anyone come to our table to acknowledge what had happened or ask if there was anything they could do to address the situation.

Five stars, hands down. ***** The exterior is a pop of color in the small town of West Stockbridge and it is conveniently located near the I-90, Tanglewood, and all things Berkshires. Check out the original artwork on the walls and relax as you are transported to another place. What makes this restaurant so special is the authenticity of the food. All the recipes are from the original Florence location, perfected over many years by the owners. If you are a meat-eater then you'll be delighted by any of the filets. I enjoyed both the blueberry filet and the green peppercorn filet (strategically ordering both with a friend and then switching plates once halfway through!). The port wine sauce chicken is also quite tasty. The restaurant offers several "samplers" (salad, steak, pasta, dessert) which makes it easy to try lots of different flavor combinations, textures, and fresh ingredients. We did get the pasta sampler, and my favorites were the gnocchi (that day it was served with red pepper sauce - but on my next visit I tried the Gorgonzola sauce, yum) and the bow tie pasta with pumpkin and tiny but delicious morsels of almond crunch. I love greek salad and Acqua Al 2 did not disappoint. Fresh, crisp and refreshing cucumbers & tomatoes with a "to-die-for" feta cheese. I am also a huge fan of tiramisu so while others in our group opted for the dessert sampler, I went all-in on my top choice... iykyk. A good tiramisu can make or break a meal.
