So I'm on a road trip, heading north from Calif and left on the Sunday before Labor Day. Pull into La Pine, OR to fuel up on my way to Bend for the night. Get into Bend, OR thirty minutes later and pull into a strip-mall to check the exact address of where I'm staying. Left the engine running and grab the wheel. Uh-Oh, that's not right. By this I mean, I now have steering by Arm-Strong. Meaning, my power steering pump has failed and maneuvering the wheel is extremely difficult. I'm only supposed to be in town overnight but I know given the severity of the mechanical failure my vehicle has suffered and over a long holiday weekend, I could be stuck in town for more than a week. And I have reservations elsewhere in another state in the coming week. Get the number of a mechanic from an auto parts store that's open on the holiday and he can check out my situation on Friday. It's Monday when I place the call. The following day, Tues and I meet a local couple at the counter where we're having breakfast. I mention my situation and the husband whips out the cell and scrolls down, then stops. He shows me the name/number to Road Runner Auto and tells me to give them a call. Get back to my hotel and call this shop. My call is answered and I explain my situation in detail. The mechanic listens and then says he has a few vehicles he's working on already from the previous week so he says the earliest I could bring my vehicle around would be Thursday morning. I say that's fine for it's a day earlier than the appt I have already. The following day, [Wed] and I receive a call from the mechanic [Tim] just after 9 AM who informs me they're caught up and I can bring my automobile in now. Fantastic I say and let him know I'll be right down. Walk into a very small office/counter space and my entrance is heard and Tim comes in from the shop area. He shows me the power steering pump [he somehow already found this part for a 20-yr old American vehicle and ordered it!] and as I had already mentioned when we first spoke, the PS pulley was likely damaged and would need to be replaced as well. And as the serpentine belt was approaching 80,000 miles, I mentioned I would like to have this replaced as well since it has to be removed to replace the pump. Hence, kill two birds with one stone with this repair. As there's no where to wait while work is being done, I head to breakfast but remember something and turn around after 10 minutes and head back to the garage. In this short time span, my vehicle has already been pulled into a drive bay and the hood is up. Work has started on my vehicle. While at breakfast I get a call from Tim. He informs me the issue is not with the PS pump, rather it's the shaft coming from the pump to the PS Pulley. He says to me, "some customers prefer to go cheap and this is why I have called you, do you still want me to replace the pump?" I reply, "after 180,000 miles, yeah, it's probably a good idea to replace it, thanks." Now honestly, who the hell in the repair industry does this anymore, RE: contact the customer and let them know what they thought was a failure of one part, was in fact something else entirely and it doesn't need to be replaced? Sure I could have used the existing pump but the cost to put it back onto my engine was still going to be there so why not replace it since this mechanic already had a replacement procured? So in the end, I get the PS pump, pulley, fluid and serpentine belt replaced. The PS lines [which were not leaking] were flushed and the original PS reservoir was fitted atop the replacement pump. Thanks to Tim the mechanic, my vacation is not ruined and I'm back on the road Wednesday afternoon and on to my next destination. One thing that caught my attention with regards to this mechanic, Tim, it's obvious he pays attention when the customer is speaking, whether in person or like my first contact, over the phone. He clearly knew he had someone speaking to him who knew their way around automobiles and as such, to expedite the work necessary to get me back on the road, went ahead and found and ordered the PS pump I suspected was the issue. I mentioned the pulley would likely have damage so it too would need replacing and since I had as many miles already on the belt, might as well replace it as well. I was very impressed when contacted and told that the problem was not with the PS pump and I didn't need to replace it. I could have saved $110 and continued using the OEM pump in place. Knowing nothing lasts forever, I think I chose wisely to have the pump replaced. I was contacted just after 1 PM and a message was left for me letting me know my vehicle was ready for pickup. In less than 4 hours, all work on my automobile was completed. Plus, I was informed that all work performed that Wednesday morning came with a 12 month/12,000 mile warranty. Sweet. Long story made short.... in not a professional mechanic for a living, but I've been around and under cars/trucks enough in my life to know when a part is broken from negligence or a defective brand new machined part, broken at its seam. The "professional" behind the counter was very condescending and rude, and NAPA's warranty only holds true if the guy behind the counter is having a good day. Taking my business elsewhere. read more

I've been taking my cars and pickups to Road Runner since 2001. They have helped me out of a couple of situations where I had work out of town, and my vehicle broke that same day (my fault) They understood my urgency and did their best to get me back on the road - and neither time did I miss any work. My wife was having car issues while by herself and out of town - Ted helped her over a cell phone to keep the car from failing so she could reach the next town. I know it won't always go that smooth, but grateful that it did! I have purchased several "new to me" vehicles over the years - from mini-vans, SUV's and pickups - and every one of them were given a Pre-purchase inspection here. Yea these guys suck, took my f150 in for a new starter. Had to return because starter was not working right they said that a starter would grind every once in while I am now replacing it again, I think a starter should last more than 3 months after paying $700.00 Will not use this place ever again read more

MORONs. I used the "REQUEST a QUOTE" link on YELP, to ask for a quote to replace a radiator. Some fool responds he does not give quotes "online", I have to call. Took our van in to get a water pump replaced. He quoted us over 200 dollars for labor and the pump which was over 70 dollars. We went to O'rielly's and got the part for 18.00. (Rebuilt, new was 35.00)Took it back, and it was plain to see that he wasn't happy with my decision. Decided to let him work on it the next day. (Today) Went in and asked the guy if he could show me the 70.00 pricing for that part and he said "Huh" so i asked him again. 'Please show me where it says the part cost 70.00' and he asked me "Why?" i Told him that i believed he was gauging us on the part and he said "You know what, here!" and hands me our stuff back. Then cusses me out as i happily walked out the door smiling from ear to ear. I didn't like him from the start. several years of psychology and lie detection taught me a little bit of something. He got busted today and didn't like it. Very unprofessional, rude, verbally aggressive and ZERO integrity. No wonder their first good review is written by themselves. He was rude from the beginning. I've learned that hardships, pain and abuse will make you a wiser person IF you have a bit of general intelligence. This guy has no excuse for being a bad person. just ignorance. Don't go here, Stay away. Give your hard earned money to someone else. People like this don't deserve anything from this beautiful community.
