I'm in my seventies and live less than a mile away. When I asked if I could get a ride back home after dropping off my car, I was told NO... I'm the only one here (which is not true, as it's a father and son operation... the son is the mechanic... the father handles the phones and taking payments) and I can't leave the shop. Now this would be a legitimate answer IF the following hadn't happened: Last summer, I called to make an appointment and for an entire week, probably at least thirty calls, no one answered the phone or returned my call after leaving a message. Turns out that they had closed down for vacation without leaving any kind of message on their phone system that they were closed for the week. When I finally got through the next week and questioned why there was no phone message that they were closed, I was told that it was too complicated and time consuming to do. So, it's OK to close for a week with no information available whatsoever, but can't drive someone home, which would take maybe ten minutes roundtrip. Now, I'm supposed to walk home, and back again to pick the car back up, in 15 to 20 degree weather? Hung up and got an appointment at Wark's in Merion, where I can walk to in less than a minute. I understand that they do excellent work.

I called Fountain Street Auto Service and was greeted calmly and with confidence that I'd be back on the road soon. Anthony and crew are true professionals. Courteous, knowledgeable, and great at juggling phone calls while taking a small line in the late afternoon. I overheard them offering a drop off for a customer, fixing a minor thing that came up after service was performed for another, and handling multiple walk ins with zero pushback or attitude. I legitimately was shocked. Never have I seen this level of competence and service in an auto shop. I asked if they could service my electric car on future returns and was told it was not a problem, as long as I made an appointment. After all of this, I was back on the road within 45 minutes for only $27 out the door. That's half what my OLD shop charges. Amazing bang for your buck and the respect was top-notch. In 2021 my tire popped and I was only able to get the car within close range of their shop. Someone came over with me to take a look and they helped me get the spare changed until a new tire could be ordered. They did not need to stop their work to help me, especially when I was not even parked in their lot. it says a lot about them!! most recently, winter storms and ice caused major damage to my hybrid vehicle's battery and additionally, AAA caused extra damage when I called for a jump, and they handled it incorrectly. Fountain Street accepted a tow on a Friday during this time when they had 0 appointments available for 3 weeks. Anthony was able to get my battery replaced, and they kept my vehicle over the weekend so they could address the electrical issues that were not there before the battery was dead/AAA caused damage. I had my car back that Wednesday. I am a single female living close by in Manayunk for the last 10 years, and I am disappointed to have ever used any other shop. I will absolutely be switching to regular service with these guys. They are kind, laid back, and in my case, made me feel confident they could handle the issues rather than causing me more stress over the unknown. That is invaluable service to me and not easy to find!

Don't look for frills, but recognize the efficiency of how well this couple runs their business. I arrived at 4:30 sharp, but no appt is necessary. I presented my (required) registration/insurance cards to the kind woman and I sat down. He finish the car ahead of me, then I pulled my car up next. While a gentleman did the inspection the kind woman proceeded to verify my info and do the paperwork. They work very effectively together. The whole process took 15 minutes and cost $70. I paid cash. I believe she said you can also pay another. When the inspection was finished the gentlemen suggested I soon purchase one new rear tire and I was on my way. I also noticed they do other things like clear your yellow head lights, oil changes, flats and I think they're even mobile. These kind people will get my money every year.

Joe Long operated this auto repair shop for decades. Joe passed away several years ago and the shop…read morehas been operated by a series of other people since he died. The good reputation of this shop is strictly based on Joe Long's supervision of mechanics, but that is long gone. Service there has significantly deteriorated since then. I miss Joe, as does my family fleet that once numbered five vehicles. Joe maintained them for about 25 years and I never had a problem with his mechanic's work. (I'm a "farm boy" with some mechanical and DIY skills, so please know that when you read this review.) I took my Prius there for annual inspection about a year ago, and reported no known problems on this highly reliable 2010 car with about 130K miles. They called me and said "It's in pretty good condition for its age and miles but many of the cushions in the suspension system are badly deteriorated and need to be replaced." The price, with inspection (which it already passed except for this issue) was $700. I told them "I have owned six Toyota's during my 60+ year driving career and all of them were very low maintenance and highly reliable, I drove each of them at least 150,000 miles and never needed any suspension work--not even to replace shocks or get a wheel alignment. I simply can not believe what you are telling me." They said to come pick up the car. When I did I saw elevated on a repair rack my neighbor's car with front and back suspension components disassembled and hanging--obviously as part of the process to replace these suspension component cushions. That auto was less than 1/3 the age of my car and I could not believe it needed this type of suspension work. I took my car to Midvale Auto in East Falls and it passed inspection without a problem. Avoid East Falls auto like the plague!
