The owner was there and without hesitation he reply Friday would be a good time to bring it in. I was surprise because everybody else stated a two week window. I have used Tom for years but will never set foot in his location again!!! My wife who is disabled called to inquire about a service they charged who for that they did not perform. Not only did this man tell us to lawyer up if we wanted are money back, but he then proceeded to verbally attack my wife for being disabled. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. Thay over charged me ask 100.00 dollars to check my Car. then they did the work on my car with out telling me the price up front Then they had to adjust the part I brought Then charged me extra with out telling me how much it would cost . When I took the car home the next day my car would not start I called AAA they said the mechanic Drained my battery. They did that so I could bring it back to them. All together I paid 280.00 for putting a small part on my care .beware do not trust them they ripped me off. I will never take my car to them ever again. read more

I recently started having Tom do maintenance on my wife's Toyota SUV, he came recommended from a friend. So far we've have two great experiences with the service that I can speak of: 1) About two months ago we got new brakes and tires, oil change and some other minor repairs. We paid what I thought was a reasonable amount for the service, and it was done fast. 2) This past week I took the car back for a new engine timing belt and 200K service, including new water pump and other belts. Also had a new battery and the annual PA inspection done too. Everything was done right the first time, no surprises. He even replaced an extra brake light bulb (something I hadn't asked about), at no extra charge. Overall very happy with the service, parts were NOT outrageously marked up, and the vehicle runs smooth. Glad I found a good local shop I can trust to maintain our cars. read more

I have been visiting Tom's Automotive over the years for Subarus and an old Chevy truck. Most of the time I leave feeling like I didnt pay enough. In the past I've used different shops for each vehicle because places specialized in either new or old but not both. I brought my car here under a recommendation from a close friend. My car needed spark plugs and they called and told me I needed an engine coil as well. Let's start with the positives: I dropped my car off the night before because I had work the next day They finished the work on my car before I was done work and gave me a decent price. Now the negative: I drove my car off the lot that night and as soon as I got to a store a mile from the shop my car wouldn't shift into gear. I towed my now undrivable car back to the shop to find out what's going on and they told me that not only does my car need a transmission (which had no issues before drop off) but I needed to come get it or they would charge lot fees. Upon talking to technicians they told me my gear shift was giving trouble while they were doing maintenance. NOONE informed me of this at all. So not only did they allow me to drive my vehicle in that condition, the owner Tom told me that I would need to pay diagnostic charges and lot fees if I didn't come get my car. They told me they would provide an estimate to replace the transmission, and when I called to follow up after not receiving it they told me they don't even work on transmissions and could not provide one. The owner was nasty to me when i mentioned that clearly something happened to my car while it was in the shop. I've never had a business owner treat a customer like this after clearly dropping the ball on my car. So to sum it up: my car was in working condition when I dropped it off for a tune up, and now it's totaled with no acceptance of responsibility from the shop. Classy. read more

Based on the other great reviews, I really wanted to like this place. Let me start with the positives. - Tom is a really nice guy. When I dropped my car off, he had one of his guys give me a ride home. - Price was reasonable, and I didn't feel like he overcharged me. Now, the negatives. - I was told my car would be ready for pick-up at 12 noon, so I showed up at 1:30 PM. But my car still wasn't ready. They were apparently waiting on a part to come in. When I asked why he didn't call to let me know, he admitted he should have. Still, it was an inconvenience, had to drive home, wait and drive back. -The tire gauge left on my passenger car seat hinted to me that the mechanic who worked on was a bit careless, which was verified in my next point. - Right before I pulled into my driveway I noticed my car stuttered a little bit when accelerating. I thought maybe it was a hiccup, so I let it go. Later that day, my girlfriend and I get in the car to take a drive, and now it is stuttering BAD. It was unsafe to drive, so I had to take it into Tom's again the next day. Turned out the mechanic who worked on my car didn't insert one of the spark plug wires all the way into the engine. As a small business owner, I know it's all about customer experience. But here, a lack of communication and sloppy work by the mechanic left me with a than stellar taste in my mouth. read more

After looking through many places on Yelp, I came across toms auto who were able to take me in as fast as possible. I walked in and was greeted very politely and generously. Tom was able to make a seat for me in the garage so I wouldn't be waiting outside in the cold. They were very accommodating and nice. They offered drinks and snacks several times. They thoroughly checked my car for any leaks or things that needed to be tuned up. I ended up getting an oil change and brakes change because they recommended it. Not only were they friendly about what I need, they didn't pressure me to get this and that to burn a hole in my wallet. They are amazing! Definitely would recommend this to everyone! They've serviced my car several times over the last couple years and I'm more impressed with every visit. Have turned several neighbors on to this reliable, friendly, reasonable and competant auto service center over the years. I was visiting from out of town and had problems with my car. Tom not only got my car back on the road but kept informed about all that was happening while I was waiting. He was even willing to stay after hours because the part he had ordered had not been delivered. I don't come across this kind of customer service anymore. I wish I had Toms in my hometown. I am starting and ending this story on Yelp. I started here as a person who was unhappy with her previous mechanic and who had a car that was making a squeaking noise and occasionally not starting properly, that was also overdue for an inspection and had an expired registration. Sooooo I needed to take care of some business. I called because of the favorable reviews I read and because of the shop's proximity to where I live. Tom got me scheduled asap, allowed me to email in my documents (including my very recently renewed registration), which he later very kindly printed out and left for me. He gave me instructions on how to leave the car since my work schedule was going to make it impossible to drop off or pick up during normal business hours. He let me know what I needed fixed to pass the inspection, and approved the cost with me before starting the work. It was done in the time he said it would be and I was able to pay for it over the phone and pick it up exactly as I expected. The work was very well done and my car runs noticeably better, even sustaining a trip out of town later that same week that had me putting way more miles on her than I usually do. Side note: I've had a very obvious crack in my back bumper since I bought the car, and could never come up with a way to take care of it that didn't involve replacing the bumper, which I don't particularly have any interest in doing. Tom took it upon himself to mend the crack for me and it looks fantastic! I was so grateful, so pleased. Looks like I've found my new mechanic. Tl;dr: Tom's is a fantastic shop. Overall a pretty good place, but charging an "MCI charge" of just over $2 is low form. That's a charge for them calling you to tell you that your car is ready. It's a really insignificant amount for both sides, since it's a small percentage of the overall bill. Tom, you should get rid of that charge. MCI hasn't been around forever... read more
