Great, another day where I need a service call on Labour Day Weekend (if anyone knows me -- I always run into problems on a holiday weekend - be it Memorial Day, Labour Day, Christmas, Thanksgiving... you name it, I've had problems then!). Anyway, I was notified by my HOA that I had a hornet's nest on my patio. Frantically, I sent out a blast-request on Yelp for an immediate hornet nest removal request for quote (with pictures). It turned out (Thanks for helping to identify!) that this was a bald-faced hornet nest - similar to yellowjackets, but WOW, these bugs were HUGE. Jacob from Robbins Pest Solutions (Jacob R - I assume he's Jacob Robbins) answered the call quickly and efficiently! For a $250 flat rate (they'll come back if they rebuild the nest within a few days), he showed up ON LABOR DAY (today!) at 1:30pm (within the timeframe of 12pm to 2pm that he quoted me on Yelp Messaging), and quickly set to work cutting down the hornet nest. First, he sprayed the inside with a flower-based insecticide - that was pressurized, but didn't need a pressure washer to go with it. Then, he took the scraper thing (you normally use these for wallpapers) and scraped off the nest, putting it in an industrial-sized bucket. Finally, he dusted off the top area to get rid of any residue (and I assume to prevent future hornets from rebuilding a new nest). Given that hornets only build nests for a single season, I reaaaally hope they don't come back to my place. But if they do, I know who I'm contacting. Jacob was awesome. He responded right away to my wasps call, and was very professional. I tried on my own for four days, must have killed at least five hundred wasps using duct tapes, wasps sprays, and my fly zapper (I killed at least a hundred wasps on those) using my tennis forehand and back hand techniques, but those wasps just kept on coming. So I decided to just rely on a professional to take care of this issue. Jacob had special equipment that didn't require removal of my sidings, and was able to spray into those little holes in the walls.
