He does not use anesthesia so prepare to go through torture. I have had these procedures without anesthesia and I do not recommend it.

They really don't come much better than Dr. Kendall…read more I've been a patient for almost 7 years now and there simply aren't enough words to adequately express my gratitude for the care and compassion he's shown me. I've found him very knowledgeable in his specialty and yet able and more than willing to explain a diagnosis or treatment in basic terms without being the slightest bit condescending. I've never felt rushed during an appointment or that I had anything but his complete attention. One of the best things about Dr. Kendall is his bedside manner and sense of humor. While no one ever wants to come to the doctor's office and there's sometimes a bit more pain before relief during treatments, he makes patients feel comfortable and you can tell he cares about their well being. He also understands that pain management means more than just pain relief - taking the time to understand the impact pain is having on his patient's quality of life and what activities the patient most wants to return to. He works to restore as much normalcy and activity to one's life as possible. I like that I'm active participant in deciding my treatment, often presented with options and information about them to make an informed decision as to how I wish to proceed. Should there come a situation where Dr. Kendall feels he's not the best to proceed, I like that I'm not referred off into the abyss. When one of my discs decided it no longer was content living between the vertebrae it was assigned, I landed in the ER. Already having a doctor treating me for back issues, the ER doctor called Dr Kendall to confer about treatment. A day (and MRI) later, I hobbled into Dr. Kendall's office to follow up. He reviewed my MRI and immediately let me know that I'd need surgery - at which point I'm sure my eyes got as big as saucers and I probably had panic written all over my face. But I wasn't just sent on my way with a referral slip. Dr. Kendall reassuringly said "Its OK. I'm going to send you to the person I'd go to if I needed surgery for this. But if I just give you a referral, it will take you a month to get an appointment." Then he reached over, picked up his cell phone and called the orthopedic surgeon himself. An hour later I was sitting in front of the surgeon for a consult and 4 days later had emergency surgery to reduce the ruptured disk. After a bit of recovery, I was back with Dr. Kendall resuming my regular treatment for my other back issues. He made what had the potential to be an extremely terrifying experience seem almost calm and routine. The physician assistants (PAs) and procedure assistants that Dr. Kendall selects to help him provide treatment are all great as well. All of them are very friendly and pleasant to work with, and I like that they stay with him for a long time so you don't have to deal with new people every few visits. Note: This review is for Dr. Kendall himself. I've posted reviews for the National Spine & Pain Centers offices he works out of as well: McLean / Tysons Corner (current location): http://www.yelp.com/biz/national-spine-and-pain-centers-mclean#hrid:jKVU21G7mw-F4K4Z5tjvqQ Shirlington (former location): http://www.yelp.com/biz/capitol-spine-and-pain-centers-arlington#hrid:1ugSpkbcwJr9cgA7FpZf-A

I've been going there for years. Dr Kendall is good at what he does and is personable…read more Unfortunately he doesn't really know me and made a decision that will keep me in pain with no end. I considered Suboxone because nothing else was working. My mistake. I talked to a Suboxone prescriber and he got the wrong impression because I didn't tell him the whole story. He sent a letter saying more or less that I was an addict. I'm not. If I were I wouldn't have sar in my apt for over a month in daily Pain. I talked to the Suboxone prescriber again and told him the whole story. He then agreed Suboxone is not what I need. I'm not an addict. I need medication because I've tried everything else. Now Dr Kendall refuses to prescribe me anything. It looks like I have a long miserable road ahead. I also had to quit both of my jobs due to no pain relief. Just be very careful what you do and who you talk to. Don't make my mistake.

I went a few weeks ago for severe chronic back pain. He literally opened with 'Why don't you just…read moretake acetaminophen?' And obviously I wouldn't be here if that worked?? And as I was answering he repeatedly kept interrupting me, for example with that question I was about to say I wouldn't be here if it worked and he interrupted me mid sentence to ask 'why haven't you tried injections?' He didn't even let me answer either, I have answers for all the questions he asked but I couldn't even say them because he interrupted me so much. In general felt he didn't care and I had even told him I don't get nerve pain and without much examination of me prescribed some random nerve pain medication. I questioned this and he said 'If this doesn't work we will only prescribe something similar'. Complete waste of time, all I wanted was a muscle relaxer so I could have a decent night's sleep for once. If you've been to a doctor that didn't take you seriously then you know what I'm talking about.

I was referred to Dr. Ramatia Mahboobi (pronounced Mah-who-bee) by the PA at the Anderson Clinic…read morefor lower back pain. It was suggested I go through a series of shots to avoid surgery. I had had these shots over a year ago by another practitioner, she was in and out and the shots did nothing for me. When I say in and out I mean it seemed like the procedure was simply to dispense some product into my back and charge my insurance. My experience with Dr. Mahboobi was completely different. He explained to me what he was going to do and systematically with great care and precision injected the medicine in exactly to precise spot it needed to be. During the procedure he told me every step of what he was doing. I found him to be professional, caring and an exceptional physician. The time he spent with me was triple what the other doctor had spent and the results were 300% better. I suggest that if you need spinal tap procedure for back pain you seek Dr. Mahboobi's excellent care. He is an expert at what he does and really cares about his patients.

Congrats to this guy who's got a virtual lock on the market as the primary traveling sedation…read moreanesthesiologist on most dental offices in the vienna/fairfax area. If you have a special needs child that needs to be sedated, you're in luck. His policy is to prioritize those children only. If your child is 4 or over, the earliest he'll see your child is noon. And your child can't eat anything for 6 hours. He makes absolutely no exceptions and will refund your money back if you're as much of a pain in the butt as I must have been to try to insist that my 4 year old needed an earlier time. I can't comment on whether he does a good job or not. i was just frustrated by his unbending policy. Luckily, it forced me to shop around and find a dentist who uses a HOSPITAL instead which is much safer alternative, anyway.

The idea of sedation is always scary for me, especially since my son has had 2 major surgeries in the past. I really appreciated that Dr. Tran and Dr. Rishita both explained the difference between general anesthesia and IV sedation to me. That helped me ease my nerves a ton!!! After I discussed my son's medical history with Dr Tran, I was advised to have medical clearance from one of my son's specialists since there were potential medical concerns, everything ended up fine and we were cleared for treatment by the specialist. Which was great because that made me feel more comfortable with the idea of IV sedation too. On the day of treatment everything went beautifully! I am so grateful for all of the time and explanations of what I needed to do before and after treatment. I highly recommend Dr. Tran! Thank you so much for watching out for my little guy!!!
