We have never encountered any issues with Dr. Millers office in the 19 years of my children being patients here. Everyone is always friendly and attentive in the Leonardtown office. Getting appointments is never an issue and we never have to long of a wait. I'm extremely happy with the care my children get. read more

The office is dated. There has not been one change in 14 years. My children can't even fit in the exam table because the tables are small for toddlers. Everything is still paper. They don't do televisits when children are sick. They won't do refills or doctors notes unless you come in. They nickel and dime everything. read more

Before our daughter was born, my husband and I interviewed a few pediatricians to see who we'd go with. Once we went to Dr. Miller's office, we stopped looking. Everyone in the office is super nice and helpful. They have a well-side and a sick-side, which is more separated than I'd seen in other offices. Even their patient rooms are separated for well vs sick. There are 3 doctors (Dr. Miller, Dr. Tomarev and Dr. Brown), a pediatric nurse (Jennifer Sylvester) and several other nurses/assistants. My daughter's doctor is Dr. Tomarev, so we have seen her the most, but we've also been seen by Dr. Miller and Jennifer several times. They are all very kind, patient and understanding. Dr. Miller is very good at putting you at ease, and even threw me off once when he asked how my husband was doing with our new addition because I just didn't expect anyone to ask. I've also talked with Dr. Brown by phone when she was on-call and my daughter had an emergency and she also seems very nice. Another plus for me is that they seem very supportive of breastfeeding. There is no lactation consultant in their office, but they can refer you to a local one if needed. All in all I love this office, and most of all that they actually remember their patients rather than you being just another face. My only complaint is that sometimes the wait for the doctor to come in takes awhile, but I know it just happens sometimes. read more

To be fair, I have to note that I NEVER even made it to Dr. Miller so I cannot rate him. I had the unfortunate opportunity to interface with the office staff, & we will never be back. After making an appt to see Dr. Miller for the first time for our 2 year old visit, my daughter became ill & I called for a sick appt. The office gave me a very hard time, pushing me further back because she had to get "paperwork" together (as it turns out they had me complete 2 forms). If we have to do paperwork, shouldn't we come earlier?? Once we arrived, we had to wait until the ladies at the front finished their 10 minute long personal conversation before they even acknowledged we were there. At one point, one of them looked at us, turned her back and began WHISPERING (the other looked at us very obviously). Lovely way to greet new patients! We are finally called back to the room (by a nurse who doesn't even bother calling my child's name....but instead says generically "you can come on back" while avoiding eye contact.) I felt relieved when the doctor entered, and was all ready to explain our terrible experience thus far, thinking she might be able to talk to the staff about greeting new patients (or any patient/family for that matter). Dr. Brown (not the dr. we went to see) entered the room, announced herself with barely any eye contact (no greeting/handshake) and just began asking questions about my daughter. She never sat down, never smiled, and made very little eye contact. Not acceptable and we will never be back. A shame because Dr. Miller came very highly recommended by our previous pediatrician and sounds like he is a fantastic Doctor. He is unfortunately hampered by his rude, unprofessional, cold staff. My children deserve better and I will not tolerate terrible care and customer service. read more

Scheduled an appointment and met with Dr. Miller. By far one of the most professional pediatricians thus far. He was honest, informative and took an interest in my concerns and questions. The meeting was informal but I felt welcomed and confident in his expertise. I liked that there were two sides and entrances to the office. One for sick patients and another for well patients. Horrible front desk staff. There is a blond woman with shoulder length hair that looks oily or dirty who is so rude! She rolls her eyes,makes nasty remarks after getting off the phone with patients,etc. I went in looking to interview an office for our upcoming child and this was the first person we met. I don't know who this woman thinks she is but she is a terrible reflection on the doctors. There is no way they aren't aware of this. read more

I will start by saying that I have taken my 5 children to Dr. Miller for 5 1/2 years and have loved having him as a pediatrician. He is personable and kind. One of his nurses, CJ, is, by far, the best nurse I have had the pleasure to take my children to over the last 18 years. All of this being said, I have decided to switch the pediatrician that I have loved and than I have taken my 2 youngest daughters to since birth, because of their "office manager." I had the unfortunate experience of speaking to Dr. Miller's "office manager" yesterday. I had a question about an eye exam that was uncovered by our insurance. (apparently when a child reaches the ripe old age of 6, they no longer need eye exams at their pedi) I did not ask for an eye exam, nor am I concerned with my daughters vision. I asked the billing office, who you cannot actually pay your bill with, only ask questions, about why I was being charged $39 for an eye exam when my insurance was paying only $9.79 for an equally charged hearing text. The billing office (who they switched to last year and I had not previously had the frustration of working with) was not knowledgeable and did not return my calls. I finally called back after waiting several weeks to hear back from them. After calling back several times, over the course of 5 weeks, I was told "The office manager said she will not reduce your charge. You are responsible to know your insurance." While I somewhat agree with that, I expect that my doctors office, and billing office, both of which work with insurance every day, would be knowledgeable and understanding about which services are covered and which are not. After speaking to the billing office, I still had questions, so I tried contacting the office manager. I called on Wednesday, then Monday, and by the following Wednesday still had not received a call back. I called again and left a message with the receptionist. The receptionist called me back and said she had spoken to the office manager and again, she was unwilling to work with me on this bill. I feel that after spending 5 1/2 years as a responsible patient, who has always paid bills promptly, I deserve at least the common courtesy of the office manager speaking to me herself. I told the receptionist so, and as if by a stroke of magic, the office manager walked in while I was on the phone with the receptionist. She first asked me how she could help, then as I began to explain my question, she interrupted me by very aggressively telling me that she already knew my "story." From that instant her voice was raised and she was very aggressive. She interrupted me several times and was rude and hostile. She said that they "couldn't just go adjusting everyone's bill," that if they did it, which she did not know if they would, it would only be a one time courtesy adjustment. I told her I would appreciate that, seeing as how this was a misunderstanding and my insurance was paying only a quarter of a similarly charged service. Then I expressed my frustration with the billing office. As a customer I think it's important to discuss my concern over services and employees that are amazing, and that are not. I thought the "office manager" would appreciate knowing that the billing office does not return phone calls. She interrupted me (again) by very loudly telling me the billing office had been in business for over 25 years and they were very reputable. Then she continued by telling me she did not need to be abused by me. I told her that I simply had a question and did not understand her immediate animosity towards me. I was trying to resolve a bill, and had been for over 5 weeks. She went on to tell me that she was Dr. Millers wife of 40 years and she did not need to be abused. Because I have not had any questions or problems with their billing over the past 5 1/2 years, I was not aware that I was not allowed to ask questions to understand my bill and insurance. Throughout the entirety of the call, the only time I have ever spoken to her, her voice was raised and agitated and she was extremely rude. She ended up hanging up on me after saying she would talk to Dr. Miller. She called back almost immediately, and left a message, to let me know that she was sorry, but they simply could not adjust my bill, that they appreciate my business, and that if I still felt the need to call her back, I knew the number. I have a pretty thick skin, but I have never been treated as badly as I was treated by this "office manager." In spite of loving Dr. Miller and nurse CJ, I do not feel that I can continue to patronize an office that would allow such behavior towards their patients. If the office manager would have calmly and professionally told me they would not adjust my bill, I would not have been happy, but I would have paid it and continued with this doctor. There was absolutely no need to behave the way she did. I paid my bill and will begin with our new pediatrician as soon as possible. read more

I have taken my two children to Dr. Miller's office since 10/2000 and have always been extremely pleased with the medical staff and the front desk staff. Over the years, I have called too many times to count to get advice concerning an illness that I didn't think warrented a visit and I was pleased. Office visits have always been excellent and all have been pleasant. Overall, I couldn't be more pleased and definitely think Dr. Miller is an outstanding doctor. Comparing his office staff to other offices - they are very good and pleasant, as some others are awful. read more

Our 3 year old daughter fell off the playground swing set and hurt her arm.. They ordered x-rays and confirmed it was a fracture. They did not offer to splint or immobilize until she could get into the orthopedic. They did attempt to send my Wife on a goose chase around town to find a sling. We took her to the Hospital and they immobilized it and made sure she couldn't cause further injury. Dr. Millers office was horrible and just offered sub-prime care. This review is about Dr. Miller's office in Leonardtown. We stuck with his office for about a year due to limited options at time in Southern Maryland. Finally ended up switching offices after latest illness with children, the only doctor we built a good rapport within office was with Dr. Lecky who was only available 2 days a week at the Leonardtown office. Our new pediatrician is a bit longer of a drive but leaps and bound better and reminded us of what a good pediatric office should be like (We had a great pediatrician for 18-months while living in Honolulu. The cons: * Desk staff is rude: Have never felt warmth or care from the staff, whether it was on the phone or when we walk into the office. When you walk into the office they slam paperwork on counter window and tell you to sign paperwork without even providing a proper greeting. On the phone when calling for a sick appointment, they make you feel as you are inconveniencing them. *** The first time I walked into our new pediatric office I was greeted with "good morning" it may seem simple but speaks volumes to the providers office environment. * Sick child Follow-ups: Never once did we ever receive a follow-up call from actual Doctor. It is always a member of staff and it always felt as though it was a check in the box call than a real call to check on health of child. The final straw was most recent illness where our almost 3-year old ran a fever for 6 days, sick-child visit was on 4th day with a follow-up call made to us on 5th day - I advised that we were still concerned as fever hadn't broke and I receive zero feedback, I ended up forcing a follow-up visit on day 6 and was prepared to bypass office and head straight to ER. Doctor ordered chest x-ray and identified pneumonia. *** Both our new pediatric office and our old office in Honolulu, follow-ups were always by the provider and frankly, I believe they would not have waited till day 6 to run tests. * Doctor-Parent relationship: Never developed one. Doctors seemed disinterested in our concerns (with the exception of Dr. Lecky) and never provided any reassurance or communication on what we should look out for. Typical response was "will see how they progress." Doctors never seemed to understand that on Fridays more concerned about a fever because office is closed during weekend so as a parent less inclined to wait and see. Also, never felt comfortable that doctor never really listened to our concerns. This was highlighted by our last visit where we brought our 8-month old infant who developed a fever and had thrown-up (a few days after sibling was diagnosed with Pneumonia). In this case Dr. Richardson saw our infant, her treatment was to let's see how it develops. I asked about running tests and she said she wouldn't do it at this point. I explained sibling was sick with 6-day fever, and he threw-up while in the doctors office. She didn't seem concerned so 2-days later at our new pediatrician our infant's illness had developed into bronchitis. ***We once again have a relationship with our provider, they listen to our concerns and tell us what they did/did not observe during visit. * Calling for medical advice: We used on after-hour contact on 2-occasions and did not provide assurance that doctors were actually concerned about children, they came across as after-hour contact was something that they had to do. * Office coordination: Is terrible. During above-mentioned visit I received a "follow-up" call to check on our toddler. I was in their office and they are calling my cell-phone. I could understand if it were a big office in city but it is a small-town practice. For our toddler, I had to follow-up and call the office back after going to pharmacy (twice) to find out Doctor hadn't issued prescription yet, Doctor Miller wasn't even the one who called me to inform me of test results on toddler. Unfortunately, choices are limited in Southern Maryland for pediatric care but there are choices which we found thru American Academy for Pediatrics website. The only reason we stuck it out with this office was because of Dr. Lecky but we couldn't get any more appointments with her (she doesn't appear to be with office anymore). I did not give practice a 1-star because I think that should be reserved for incompetent care. 3-star is "ok" practice, which for us they are not. We understand that fevers and sick kids are a normal thing. However, we have also had the experience of having a good relationship and rapport with our kids care providers - that is something that we never established with Dr. Miller's office. read more
