Today was my first consultation with Dr. Timothy Gifford, periodontist. I barely slept I was so anxious. I'm so glad I found this practice! After a comprehensive exam, Dr. Gifford spent time providing me four incrementally more aggressive treatment options. I have never in my life had a dentist spend so much time with me. I have confidence we will find a workable plan to treat and/or mitigate further disease. Bonus: The staff is really fun and the office is cheery and comfortable. 10 stars! Thank you! read more

I used to love and swear by this dentist until I learned the truth. When I had to change insurance and get a new dentist, they were flabbergasted by how shoddy their work is. The nightguard that Dr. Kaur gave me had been so improper that it was damaging my teeth and causing the front teeth to chip and crack. I was actually asked if I had gotten this nightguard from a different country, that's how slapdash it was. When I came in to ask for a refund to at least get some kind of moral mea culpa from them (this nightguard costs $735ish before insurance, according to the receptionist, but replacing a tooth is easily ten times that much, so it would be a drop in the ocean compared to the damage done to my mouth) I kept getting the runaround about things being "subjective". Then when I wasn't dissuaded I got an appointment with the doctor to talk it over, which I assumed would just be them trying to convince me my new dentist is a con artist, doesn't know anything, etc. And lo and behold, no surprise that's exactly what the appointment was about. No refunds, and that I should consider myself lucky my mouth guard even lasted this long. Now instead of things being "subjective" it was preposterous and no dentist in their right mind would say such a thing. Yeah, I'm sure my board-certified TMJ specialist was just making it up, while the dentist who made the device in question has no room for doubt. I mean I'm pretty sure they even made sure to CYOA by asking to take a look at my mouthguard so they could do an official "reply from the owner" here with something like "Actually when you came in we proved your teeth were already broken and we didn't do anything wrong-" and try to make other people reading this think I'm not being accurate. They tried to say my current dentist must be a scammer for charging around $1100 for an occlusal guard and that must be why. But I called around town and most dentists are in the 1000 dollar ballpark for guards. The only ones who quoted me lower than 900 were quick and clear to point out "that's just a base price, we increase it if it's more complex, and it'll probably involve exams too". Oh and if that wasn't enough, Dr. Kaur insisted the receptionist had just been mistaken and that actually it was only $300, and that I should be counting myself lucky to have gotten such a good deal - as if I care about saving money when it means breaking my teeth. While this is mostly what I'm pissed off about today, in the last few years I got the same fillings done on my teeth again and again from these people, while the filling I got ages ago from my paleolithic-era dentist in Mountain View is still holding strong. So I'll ask again who the real scammer is. And just as a funny aside, while I was waiting in the office, there was a guy at the front desk who showed up for his appointment, only to find out it had been canceled, despite having confirmed it. It turns out that the front desk just relies entirely on the automated system with no verification, had somehow sent another confirmation to the wrong number, and canceled his appointment. Obviously this doesn't impact my own experience, but it does make one question why there are so many screwups in one office. In one day. At the same hour. read more

I had a very negative experience. I was charged for procedures without being given clear information or consent beforehand. When I asked for clarification, my concerns were not handled in a professional or compassionate way. Some of my personal information was also shared without my permission. I've loved this dentist for years, but feel disillusioned by them- twice now. The first time was years ago, I would get my teeth whitened after every cleaning, then they raised their prices (by $40!) without disclosing the large increase in cost. I stopped getting my whitening done there. Luckily, home kits are surprisingly just as effective for $15. This time, I made an appointment was told that I was due for x- rays, an exam and cleaning, and that they would verify my dental dental, send in the billing paperwork and I would be reimbursed within two weeks. Prior appointments I have always owed nothing because they were in network, but I verified while making the appointment and they let me know they are now (OON), which I was concerned about because I didn't want get cheated by the system- which is exactly what happened. Today I got an EOB from delta dental that NONE of my services were covered. The receptionist said my coverage SHOULD have been verified by a their staff but wasn't due to the nature of my appointment being made the same week that I attended the appointment. (What?!). $319 that I would never knowingly spend on a routine dental appointment. Secured new insurance for $15 today. If they had done their job and verified that my insurance wasn't active, I would have skipped the appointment altogether or, had I really needed, gone to a low cost /free clinic. Extremely disappointed by this situation. However, they did say they would speak to management so I am hopeful this mistake will be graciously corrected and they will learn for future reference to avoid this kind of stress for their patients. (They never got back to me.) I called 4 days later because no one ever got back to me. The manager then said it was on me and it's not their problem. They also changed their story and said they DID verify my insurance and it showed as active. I called my insurance and they said it was not active. Very misleading. Save a headache, and lots of cash- and find an honest and customer service driven dentist. read more

I have tried many dentists in Santa Cruz County over the years and this office, by far, is the best I have been to. Dr. Devin, the staff, the relaxing office itself- all top notch, friendly and responsive. The office is very well run and super efficient. After my last dentist repaired the wrong tooth (and tried to blame me!) I knew I needed to make a change. I have been here 3 times for initial consultation and cleanings and its been absolutely great. My family of four were loyal patients since moving to Scotts Valley in 2017 but recently had to reconsider due to the office no longer accepting Delta Dental. We were told that Delta would likely cover 50-70% of the coverage and would mail us a check. Unfortunately, when the check arrived the coverage was only about 30%. As a family of four, this is very expensive so we had to find another dentist. Subsequently, we owed a balance on our account which we paid through their portal on time (but apparently the payment portal did not work), and then my wife was called threatening collection (after LESS THAN 30 days late which is crazy). I just called them now to pay in full and shared my feedback. It is really adding insult to injury to threaten collection after we have been good patients for a long time and most recently being left with a huge bill thanks to their inaccurate estimate of Delta Dental payout. We are happy to leave this dentist now as it is clear that payments are more important than patients. read more

They botched a simple filling procedure for my daughter and she was in pain for weeks after her appointment. They kept telling us that's normal and swelling will go away. It didn't. After going back and forth two more times with no resolution we went to a different dentist and it was finally fixed. "The best" part about being a patient here is getting their passive aggressive letter reminding you you're doing yourself a disservice by neglecting your oral health because you haven't been back. Truly one of the worst experiences I've had with a medical professional. The dentist Nannette's communication style is very shame-based. I felt like I was being scolded by my grandmother. In addition to that, there were 4 incidences where I had to scream to get her to stop drilling because I wasn't numb enough. I had told her I was resistant to novacaine but at no point did I feel like she actually heard me until I was jolting in pain. Lastly, I'd called ahead to ask for nitrous. It wasn't ready when I arrived and she said I'd needed to call ahead. I replied "I did" so they got it ready, and halfway through the session some canister leaked and it sounded almost like an explosion. They couldn't fix it after that and said I wouldn't be able to do nitrous. Won't be going back. If you have a tough time at dentists I would avoid this business. read more

I express my appreciation to some of the gals here. I have a small auto repair shop and have definitely compared some dentists to auto shops, the good and the bad. I Don't have insurance so I only comeback when I have cash set aside, but I will continue to remain a client. I know peoples teeth are affected by so many different variables that its tough to consider every job is just as important as the last. Dr. Kaur and Tia are who I get to work with. and they are knowledgeable, firm but delicate when they work on you. They give me my priorities ahead of when they need to get done and they don't push high margin up sales. I appreciate the Integrity and hard work these two women put into their jobs, I Normally hear from the receptionist Karina and she has always been helpful and nice on the phone. I believe you will get what you pay for and I don't think I have ever gone to a dental office and been stoked on how much the bill was but but these people actually care. Then AFTER the procedure was done they sent us a bill saying we owed for it!! This is so unprofessional and careless. It jeopardizes trust which is a very important of a relationship with a dentist. I was charged treatment fees in a false and misleading manner. I was given an estimate for services by the front desk that showed an 80% coverage by my insurance for fillings. When the services were carried out and I received my bill after, coverage was significantly lower and the bill was 70% more. The insurance provider's Explanation of Benefit shows 80% of this service is covered but a customer service rep stated that there is 80% coverage only for a cheaper silver enamel while Nannette Benedict DDS & Associates used a more expensive white enamel without my knowledge. My expectations were set with their estimation that quoted a certain amount but then was given a significantly higher bill only after services were carried out. This feels like a predatory practice where both the insurance provider and dental office are taking advantage of a grey area that ends up putting patients in a financial hole. Is it specified that there are two types of enamel when the dental office gets an estimate of insurance coverage? Why should it be the patient's responsibility to take on the financial burden of a flaw in the communication between the Dental Office and the Insurance Provider? While I am satisfied with the dental work I received and the initial willingness of the office manager to work with me on financing their mistake, the end result was the office still trying to get $165 from me, an international student, despite admitting that the situation is unfair. On a higher level, I want dental offices to communicate coverage estimates with insurance providers on their own instead of pushing problems to the consumer, someone who is not equipped or qualified to deal with the technicalities of insurance coverage. I also want dental offices to inform patients about their choice to only offer non-required types of material that they know might not be covered by insurance. read more

Had two appointments to get cavities filled. After the first one, I could barely floss because there was a giant chunk of filling material that hadn't been ground down properly. When I went to get my other fillings done, they seemed unconcerned about that and made a half-hearted attempt to fix their mistake (it's still difficult to floss, but at least now it's a possibility). The other filling that I got was by far the worst experience I have ever had with a dentist in my life. I could feel her and see her struggling while she tried to jam spacers between my teeth, and could feel blood dripping from my gums into my mouth. I had to ask several times to get suction to remove some of the blood that was filling my mouth. Despite all the trouble that the dentist had, she never once told me what was going on or why I was bleeding so much. She did not prescribe me ibuprofen for the swelling and could not wait to leave as soon as I was done, seemingly unfazed by what just happened. I have never had a harder time recovering from a simple filling than after that incident. I was in excruciating pain for the rest of that day and swollen for two days and could barely open my mouth, let alone eat. From a filling. Additionally, I can no longer floss that tooth because there is another large chunk of filling sticking off of it; when I have tried I just end up breaking the floss. Would never recommend this place to anyone. Don't let the nice decor, "hip" music, and young dentists fool you: this place is terrible. read more

Had heard some amazing things about this dentist office and was really excited to try it out! My parents love it, and I have some friends who enjoy it! However, my experience trying to book an appointment was less than pleasant. I want to extend the benefit of the doubt and assume the receptionist (Cindy) may have just been having a bad day, but in any case, my excitement to try this new dentist was met with a very short (dare I say rude) women on the other end of the phone. She could not schedule me for two months, was very condescending and snippy in our conversation and made no effort to engage or accommodate my schedule as a teacher. I understand scheduling conflicts and have grace for that, but being rude in the process is not how I want to be treated as a customer (of which I am no longer one.) Again, I hope it was a one time thing and maybe just a bad day, but I did not have a great experience and looked else where as soon as I hung up (or more accurately was almost hung up ON!) for my dental needs. read more

I recently changed dentists, partly because my gal pal works for a dentist and she said "Come to my dentist." and I said "Ok." It wasn't a hard sell, because the last two times I've been here I had to wait 25 minutes. That's pretty frustrating for an office that has very strict cancellation rules and is very insistent that you arrive early for your appointment... so that I can wait 40 minutes? Also, the last two times I was here I kept getting asked why I don't have kids and when will I have kids and aren't you getting to the age where you should have kids? I am shocked at the negative reviews here! I am 30 years old and have a dental phobia so it took me YEARS to find a place I entrusted with my mouth. I have been with this office for over two years and ever though I live in San Francisco, I actually travel there to get work done. Funny enough, I am about to leave for an appointment and was looking up the address when I saw this, so I had to comment. Nannette is wonderful! I even have a friend who lived with a dentist and when I spoke with her about Nannette she mentioned that she actually studied under her and was extremely inspired. I also showed her my treatment plan & she commented that the cost was really really good. Her hands are small so they actually fit in my mouth, she is bright and warm. She also works with a lot of kids so she knows how to be gentle. I had ONE problem there and it was with a hygienist and I have never been back to her. Nannette promptly called me when I left to find out what happened. Bad day or not, I don't like people being rude! So I heart Heidi and Nannette. I've been going to Benedict DDS for a couple of years now. Overall, they are OK. They do have a very new/modern office with good equipment, for the most part. So far, I have only gone in for cleanings. At one point, Dr. Bernhardt told me that I needed to have some filling replaced soon and that I had cavities developing in 2 places. For some odd reason, that has never been mentioned again...and it's been over a year. My main concern is with their prices. I usually ask for nitrous oxide when I get my teeth cleaned. My teeth are very sensitive and the nitrous helps a lot. Unfortunately, they charge me $150 each time. Compare that to my wife who sees a periodontist and is charged $40 for nitrous oxide. Bottom line.....I wish they had better prices, especially for the nitrous. read more

My North Bay perio referred me to Dr Benedict, as someone who greatly stood out at UCSF dental school. So I was prepared for someone special but had no idea how special. Yesterday Dr Benedict took on my loose 25 year old crown sitting on top of a 25 year old implant, and she won. With a butterfly touch she drilled through and found the secret key, and tightened the crown. She finished with just the right amount of resin which allowed for comfy chewing. Most dentists I've met could not have done all that with such an old crown. She's a supreme technician with a compassionate nature. You're in for a good time in her chair with that combo. So pain free and quick, while attending to every detail. What a gem! Praise also for the friendly and efficient front office. And a gold brick for their perio Dr Gifford who did my emergency surgery just as Covid closed us down! I'm forever grateful for his compassion and excellent care. th read more

Every time I go to see my dentist I am Always greeted by the wonderful ladies at the front desk who know me by name. I never have to wait more than 5 minutes to get taken to the back. Tried this dentist when they first opened at their new location in the newly built building. A dental assistant who books appointments was inappropriately aggressive and discourteous. There was a hard sell push to become a regular patient. I had an immediate need and was also looking for a dentist. This was a convenient location. I had some initial work done. This was performed by another dentist in the office not actually Dr. Benedict. I liked the dentist for being very nice but within a month I needed to have the work corrected because it did not last. This was not to be a temporary fix. It was something posing a choke or swallow risk if it was not addressed ASAP. When I called to set up an appontment to have it corrected it was now a warranty issue on their previous work. This dental assistant would not even book an appointment unless I agreed to become a regular patient and have a full workup of x-rays and exams. So I agreed to the full workup and x-rays. They corrected their previous work but this time it did not last one week. I ended up taking a day off and going to my previous dentist where I lived before moving to Scotts Valley. read more

Everyone was kind and friendly while welcoming me in for my first appointment today. I filled all my registration forms out ahead of time using the online portal, which made my check-in process smooth and quick, plus eliminated any use of pens and paper during covid. However, if I did need to touch anything I would feel safe and fine doing so, as the facility was immaculate, and the staff is very cautious and constantly cleaning equipment immediately after its use. The assistant (Tia) who took my x-rays and roomed me for the dentist explained everything to me perfectly and was happy to answer my questions, she also helped me explain some pain I was having, as it was difficult for me to articulate it and pinpoint where it was coming from. The dentist, Dr. Kaur, was able to investigate and find the cause of my discomfort and explained my teeth and their state to me in easy-to-understand terminology. The treatment plan proposed to me was explained as well, and the pricing was very fair, especially for the quality of bedside manner alone!
