My family has used Mcgill for over 25 years, when the owners Father ran it. I have referred them to countless clients. I bought a new system a couple of years ago from them and have had nothing but trouble with it. Of course parts are under warranty but labor is not and their technician did not even find the problem, another company did. They have come and misdiagnosed my unit and another at a property I manage next door. They never own their mistakes. Even with a service contract they claim to have done a service when I was present and they did not do any scheduled service, only replaced a thermostat that cost $72 for $700. I have tried to speak with them and get a run around of rude people. I will admit my mistake, it was sticking with them for as long as I have. read more

Clearly not fixing things. Do you not understand that your lack of response just supports everything thats wrong with your company. A thermostat hanging for months but you decide "well it doesn't matter cause he was gone for part of that time". Why didn't you say to your team "Let's get this fixed right away". From my experience with this contractor, it appears they are more interested in selling service contracts and new equipment then repairing your present equipment. I recently purchased this property here in Florida and was not that familiar with exactly how my air conditioner was supposed to perform. There was air blowing out of the vents, All I knew my house was not cool. I went and checked the outside components to discover that the fan was not spinning. Not familiar with reputable contractors in the area, I used Google search to find one. Mc Gill popped up and most reviews were favorable. In hind sight I'm surprised since their pricing is far from reasonable. Most contractors I have dealt with in the past would charge a service or estimate fee for initial service call but applied the fee towards the total cost of the repair once the job was satisfactorily completed. They made it a point to say that it would be a $129. just to send a technician and that there would be additional charges if problems needed to be addressed. Unfortunately, I agreed. A technician arrived shortly and within a few minutes he concluded that a capacitor needed to be replaced. The capacitor was installed. Initially the fan engaged and then the technician appeared to be checking other aspects of the AC unit, I noticed the fan had stopped and did not appear to be working properly. Was told by the technician that he was checking the thermostat and when it is turned off or when the house reached its desired temperature it can take a few minutes before the fan re-engages. Being new to Florida and central AC, I did not know what to expect so I waited over a week to realize that my home was just not getting comfortable the way it should. I called Mc Gill up and said my fan continues to run intermittently and my house is not being cooled properly the way the air conditioner was currently working. Another technician was dispatched. Technician arrived and began to trouble shoot the issue and with in short order claimed there was a faulty wire going to the capacitor that needed replacement which may be the issue why the fan was not working properly. The technician then handed me a bill for another $129. For a service call and $97.75 to replace a nut and a wire. I initially refused to pay for a repair as something petty as replacing a nut and wire. There should not have been any charges levied just as a gesture of good customer service. After having a discussion on the telephone with a representative of the company who stated that he held a supervisory position and had some authority, who in my opinion was the least bit customer friendly finally conceded the $129. Service call fee but insisted that I needed to pay the $97.75 to replace a worn wire and a screw. Soooooo...... a week goes by and my home still hotter than a sauna and the fan in the unit still refuses to engage. And again, they send out a technician who doesn't even bother to trouble shoot any issues and immediately contends that the reason the fan does not engage and not cool the house is because the unit is really to small to cool the square footage of this house and tells me I should just consider replacing the unit and will have a Rep from the company contact me. I don't buy it! My working Volkswagen engine works fine in my Mercedes it just takes longer to go from 0 to 60 mph! Long story short.... Called in another AC contractor that fixed the problem in a heartbeat who determined that there was a wiring issue associated with the thermostat. He was very reasonable, charging me considerably less than McGill with a lot less aggravation. I am now calm cool and collected and living happily ever after having no further problems with my AC! read more

Ten years ago, neighbors recommended Robert R McGill Air Conditioning. I have used them since for service at two different condominiums. The fifteen year old air conditioner in my present condominium shot craps August 29th. Kevin was sent to service and told me the news and my options. He was clear, thorough, and well spoken. 26 hours later, I had a brand new system and the installers, Louis & Terrence, were driving away. In 90°F plus heat, they never lost their cool, and they completed the entire job (with the help of a crane operator) in three hours and 20 minutes. Louis must have been roasting on the roof but he never complained. The time frame is an impressive feat as I followed up with Derrick to ask more questions, and my HOA required proof of workers comp & general liability insurance, proof of licensure, and a copy of the permit from Robert R McGill before work could begin. Everyone I spoke with at Robert R McGill was unfailingly polite and competent. All requirements were quickly satisfied. My HOA assistant manager said they were a terrific company to work with. I'll continue to use them to service my now one day old system and recommend this company as enthusiastically as my neighbors recommended them to me! read more

UPDATE: Nina is correct. The original review was made prior to coming to an arrangement to reimburse me for my expenses. I had not gotten around to editing my review to reflect that. HOWEVER, I still stand by the poor communication and poor service, regardless if I'm the tenant or not. They also failed to properly communicate what was going on to the landlord. I know this because I was in constant contact with the landlord who did everything he was required to do by law and beyond. He paid for the replacement unit and the company dropped the ball repeatedly after that. In the end, the company was in and out of my apartment over the course of a full week. During that time, they tried to blame my condo building as the reason for the newly installed unit not working. I would leave for work with them working on the AC unit and come back to a humid and hot apartment without anyone around. There was not as much as a call or a text to advise what the status was. I needed to call and find out what was going on. In particular, when I returned from work on Friday after 5pm the tech that was working on the unit from earlier that morning had left and the unit was still not functioning. So I called and called without answers. Finally, I was told the brand new unit was defective and required a complete new unit installed. But the new installation could not occur until the following Monday. If I hadn't called I wouldn't have known. They certainly didn't tell my landlord who mind you had paid them already. And they certainly didn't care to communicate that I would continue to be without AC over the weekend. After I don't know how many phone calls placed I finally got a hold of someone who would make it right and reimburse me for my hotel stay. They may try to say that the defective unit was out of their control, but I submit to anyone reading this review that this brand of AC unit was the product they sold to my landlord without another option, because it's the manufacturer they have a contract with to sell (likely) exclusively. Maybe they should stop peddling unknown brands and partner up with reputable manufacturers instead of trying to save a buck. In the end, they did the right thing. But it came at a cost of my and my landlord's valuable time trying to get answers, multiple nights of sleep deprivation in a sweaty apartment, and likely a piece of my sanity. The lesson is to communicate whether they're the owner or the tenant. I'll change the review from 1 Star to 2 Stars. When I do become an owner, I will never forget this experience and think twice before using them for my AC related needs. read more

I found them to be affordable, neat, thorough, and to take care that they did the job right, not just in the way that made them the most money. The city inspector just came and made a comment that their job is easier when it is a Robert McGill job, because they never find any problems. Talk about an endorsement! He parked in a no parking space blocking a fire hydrant and another unit owners space. When we asked him to move his truck and park in the guest space he refused. I hired this company to install an AC unit during a recent remodeling project. From the start, Derek (son in law of the owner) was a complete jerk. Rather than follow the architects drawings, they tried to cut a 3 ft square return in the center of our new dining room wall rather than using an existing ceiling return. Derek copped an attitude rather than just doing what the job called for. In addition, we found out later that they also tried to rip us off by neglecting to install the heating unit. There are a lot of decent companies out there, run by good honest hardworking people. This company is not one of them. Use them at your own risk and be prepared to be treated like crap. Wow! So, I've been using Robert McGill for years. They serviced my old machine and I bought a new system from them ten years ago that's still going strong...uh, well, except for today when I was cleaning the house with the windows wide open...and I guess the warm air kind of taxed the a.c. a bit -- and water started dripping out the bottom (it's a central a.c. unit). Called up Robert McGill and let them know I was kind of having a panic attack as am about to head out of town and just didn't want to leave the a.c. like that if it was a real problem...honestly did not expect them to come right away.. figured I'd have to leave keys, etc. But you guessed it. They were on the way within minutes!!! Did a super-thorough job cleaning the whole system. They are always so polite, explain exactly what they're doing, and they really seem to care about 'doing things right'. Definitely recommend! read more

We have been loyal customers of McGill Air for many years. When it came time for a new unit, McGill Air recommended a 5 ton Rheem. First, McGill Air hooked up the supply line incorrectly. They hooked the line up to the emergency overflow, instead of the main supply line. Then, there was a leak in the compressor. Within, 5 years the Rheem unit completely rusted and deteriorated causing the unit to collapse on itself. We have faithfully paid for annual service/maintenance contracts, however no one noticed the unprecedented amount of rust and deterioration until I called for a service. McGill Air and Rheem would not take any responsibility stating, it was due to environmental conditions. Although, Rheem couldn't take the time to send their local representative to the property to inspect the unit. Our neighbor's Bryant is in tact, only 30-40 feet away from ours. Our Lennox 5 ton unit on the other side of the house, is in tact. Two outside air-conditioning companies inspected the unit and stated they have never seen a unit deteriorate like this in all their years of experience. McGill Air and Rheem have proven not to stand by their customer or their product. This was an extremely costly mistake. read more
