I love this place. It takes me back to my youth when our hometown cobbler repaired and provided new life to all our well-worn​ shoes (belts, handbags, coin purses and kinds of other things). Nope, we did not throw shoes away just because there was a hole or a tear. Riebes is a BIG upgrade for me. The shop has MUCH better lighting and a MUCH larger service area then the shop of my childhood​ and the Riebe's craftsmanship​ is as good or better! The shop has all the equipment and smells of the cobbler shop of my youth. This week, my slippers had a blow-out in the toes. The Riebes expertly​ sewed the brokenseam and​d I am confident the seam is now better than when they were new. My slippers were returned to me in an​ environmentally friendly​ paper bag! Thank you for this, too ;) For under $25 I will get much more service out of these slippers! This is Boise's best shoe shine hands down. Old school shoe shines (you'll even find a Playboy on the chair if that's your thing) done quickly and inexpensively. The shines are thorough and your shoes end up looking spectacular. I've had a number of other shoe services completed here and the work is always top quality if a tad on the expensive side based on my experience with other shoe services but not enough to keep me away or make me shop.That said, they've added years of life to expensive shoes so I think pricing is relative. They are not open on the weekends which is a challenge and they only take cash so be aware, more than once I've had to run to an ATM because I forgot they don't take credit or debit cards. They have the best selection of polish and shoe care equipment in Boise. You'll find colors that you don't expect that will match your toughest shoe colors and if they don't have it they can get it. If you need work done on shoes, purses, belts or bags, it is definitely worth the drive downtown to go to Riebe's. read more

Indigo and I dropped off one of my favorite handbags a few weeks ago. It had a broken zipper and mailing it to get repaired (to the company I bought it from) would have cost shipping and 75 -90 to fix. I was told (by the purse company) that it probably wouldn't be fixable anyway because it was several years old. However, Bob, is magical. He had his wife check it out and they just replaced the slide! It's as good as new and the bill was very reasonable. My husband dropped off a pair of shoes for a shine and to have the heel repaired. He is a shoe snob, having owned this particular pair for probably 20 years. Short story is they did an excellent job at a fair price. They also completed the repair in a very timely manner which was important as we are not from Boise and needed the shoes back rather quickly. The guy running the shop has enough business he doesn't need to kiss anyone's backside so don't expect them to grovel over your patronage. Just accept that these are craftsmen performing a (nearly) outdated service with exceptional skill and job pride. They do good work on polishing and some repairs, a bit pricey though. Only beef I have is he's pretty selective about the repairs he does. I have a pair of cowboy boots that I need repaired/resoled. Originally I took them in and he said it would be ~$90 for the work. I was short on funds and brought them back a month later. This time he said he would not mess with them and that I should buy a new pair. Not really that big a deal, I have another shop that will do the work (for $60), just a little frustrated by the waste of time. I have a pair of boots that had soles that were separating from the uppers. When I dropped them off, I mentioned that I would like to take them on a hunting trip the following week. (I know... "You want it w-h-e-n?") Robert said he would try to get them done by then. He called me in three days and told me they were ready. He did an excellent job and even buffed in boot grease which was above and beyond my expectations. These are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned (dex +3, for you gamers) so I am very pleased to have them restored. For this amazingly fast, excellent service, I was charged $23.50 and now have boots in an almost-new condition; that sure beats shelling out $180+ for a new pair. :D read more

I honestly do want to give them as many stars as possible based on the fact that they are, for the most part, very friendly. However, I'm very disappointed in my first (and last) experience after picking up my shoes today. Fail #1: A pair of practically new, beautiful heels now look like something you'd see in a vintage clothing store - the leather is crinkly and looks extremely weathered. I brought this to his attention and he said "Yeah, that's what happens when you stretch them". Ummmm...perhaps a little heads up beforehand. I asked if he shined them (which I had requested) and he said "No, that costs $6.50" --- ummm...yeah, so? Now I must either try to find a "quick-fix" or new shoes for an event TOMORROW night. Fail #2: The sole around a pair of gorgeous wedges from Nordies needed some attention as the rubber had worn away and a crack on one of the soles needed bonding. Much to my dismay, he only repaired the crack but had done nothing with the toes and said "Well, that'll cost you $13.50 but honestly I don't think the shoes are worth it". Thanks dude, they are only my favorite ....(and in great condition - other than the toes that needed repair). So I left w/ new shoes looking old, a pair that were hardly repaired, and having been insulted. It was frustrating that each service I asked for was met w/ "Well, that'll cost you........." in a discouraging tone. Mister, I promise you, I'm not poor...I can afford it and I definitley don't want to have to beg! read more

I found my puppy chewing on the heel of a pair of [gasp!] Ferragamo black suede boots. The damage was mostly on the bottom, but approximately 1/2" of the suede-covered heel had teeth marks. The owner of this shop was very friendly and suggested he cut 1/2" off of both heels and add a thicker replacement heel, to balance it out. Worked like a charm and saved my favorite boots (which I'm more careful to keep out of harms way, now). I have since taken all of my shoe repair business to this shop, with always excellent results. The shoe/boot shines are also very reasonable and make your shoes look better than the day you bought them. read more

Would definitely recommend and will continue to return to! I was nervous about taking a high end designer purse some where to have fixed with out knowing much about the place. When I came here the gentleman running it was so nice. I explained to him that I was going to have a hard time parting from my purse for the weekend, I dropped it off on Thursday and he got it done quickly by Friday (the next day) so I could have it for the weekend. They also did a great job repairing a pair of shoes. I should clarify that his wife did the work on my items and did an incredible job. It was also half the price I was expecting.
