Updating my previous 1-star rating. We live in Kuna, bought a suit for my husband at Macy's. The slacks needed hemming, and Macy's highly recommended Larry's. We took the slacks there on June 30. The slacks were altered beautifully, the cost was reasonable. However, it took 3 weeks to get the item. We went on several days and at different times, but the office was closed. On the 6th trip there, we finally caught the shop open. Prior to that, I called but no answer, and his voicemail box was full. I left notes, in English and Spanish, requesting a call as to when I could pick up my item. No call. He's very good at what he does, but the lack of communication was very frustrating. read more

I dropped in the have a zipper repaired last week and Larry immediately determined what was needed and, rather that ask me to leave the pants for repair, he mended the existing zipper within 10 minutes. That save me the cost of a new zipper and the repaired zipper works perfectly. He only charged me $5! Great service, great price! read more

I called and asked for same-day service, and was told it wouldn't be a problem. I dropped off a pair of jeans just 10 minutes after my call, and picked it up only 1.5 hours later. I read reviews and saw he wasn't too chatty so his demeanor didn't bother me at all. Honestly, I was just a little jealous that I didn't get to act like that during my years in Customer Service!!! The work done was perfect. Not one single issue. And only $16 to shorten the length of these new jeans?! Heck of a price. If you're worried about price, get the quote when you go in and write it on the ticket he gives you, in front of him. We took my husbands army dress uniform to another tailor picked it up three days before the event and it fit horribly it looked worse than before we'd taken it in! Took a suit jacket in to have the sleeves hemmed, and was told it would be ready the next Thursday. I wasn't told what the price would be, but I thought, "how much could be?" I came back in six days later on Thursday around 2:30 (The day it was to be ready) and I was told to come back in a couple hours, as he hadn't even started the job yet. I had to come back the next day, and was told that the hem job would be $30. I've had jackets hemmed before at other places, and it was always at least half of that price. Just an awful experience. I needed a new zipper put into a pair of suit pants on a Saturday. I called, they were open and within two hours had replaced the zipper. Tailor shops in Boise that are open on Saturday and that will accommodate an emergency is very unusual in my experience. The service was great, friendly and the work was very good. I noticed that a few people mentioned his lack of service but the person I dealt with is not an American and his English is a little difficult to understand and I honestly feel like he may feel a little uncomfortable because of it. I'd forgotten my claim ticket at home and he couldn't have been nicer about it and while not chatty, was very pleasant. Today I called Larry's and he is back!!!! Today is 9/20/22 he said anytime today for pickup!

Larry had one week to hem the pants of a new $500 suit. When I stopped by to pick the suit up a day after it was supposed to be done, Larry said that he wouldn't have it ready until 1:PM. I was moving out of town and this suit was purchased specifically for my new job. I had to leave town without it and buy another one after moving. I gave the ticket to a friend to pick it up and send it to me. About a week later, that friend stopped by with the ticket to pick the suit up. His response? "it not here". My friend was surprised - how can someone pick it up without the ticket? Apparently if someone doesn't have a ticket, they can just show Larry a picture. I don't know about Larry's sewing skills because he never finished the job - or if he did, he gave away $500 of my property after the job was done. Larry is an incompetent businessman - do not trust him with your garments - you may never see them ever again. read more

Took a brand new suit to get tailored and chose this guy because of his good reviews.Like people said,the guy didn't say much.He did a very quick "measuring" when I dropped it off and said come back in a week. So I come back a week later for pickup and there's my suit....still hanging on the rack.He hadn't even touched it. So I took it and went somewhere else,now having to pay MORE for Express service. I love the comments below. And they are pretty spot on. Larry is from Peru and speaks English and Spanish. He is very quiet and didn't respond much, only with a shrug and grunt. So I switched to Spanish thinking it would be better for a response. No. He shrugged and grunted. I told him what I needed (alterations to pants and a jacket) and he gave me a ticket and sent me on my way. Picked up the goods 4 days later and they were perfect. I gave him one more jacket and picked it up 2 days later and it was perfect. The work is good, but he makes up prices on the spot. Not terrible but there is no price list. If you are looking for a great environment and good conversation look elsewhere. This is a house with what looks like the garage converted into a tailor shop. But Larry does all the work and is very good at what he does. Highly recommended, even though it is a little on the bizarre side. read more

OK I'm not one to jump on any band wagons, but hey, Larry is definitely not a people person. Having read that in previous reviews I thought well, neither am I. I went for quality alterations not to be best friends. I gave him two pair of pants, simple hemming task. He took an extra week from what he quoted me with one, and misplaced (they're still with him I guess) on the other. Today I go to Valentina's Alterations in Meridian. I feel the need to write this review for the individuals who actually look at the 4.5 stars and think that this is a place worth going to. If you are looking to get decent BASIC alternations done at fair prices (mind you, they are totally random as there is no price list), this is the place for you. However, if you're like me and actually factor in the customer service angle of a business into your overall impression and satisfaction, I would stay far far away. Larry is the most peculiar individual you'll ever meet. Like the other reviews say, he doesn't speak much. At first, I thought this was maybe a social handicap. Then I saw him interact with his wife and a friend, and behold, he actually CAN speak, he just chooses to ignore you. He doesn't even respond to a hello, and when he does say something, it's an incomprehensible mumble. This proves very difficult when you have a non-basic alteration that you need to speak through. His quarters are dark, creepy, and stuffy. Frankly, I feel very uncomfortable going to his "shop" (it's a garage). To top that off, if you're not happy with his work, or get a little outraged at the random bogus price that he throws at you ($24 to take a shirt in), he will become aggressive and tell you to eff off. It's unfortunate that there are so few options in boise, but I would rather wear too long pants than ever have to deal with this man again. read more

I can't recommend Larry enough! He doesn't talk much, but he's very polite and while English doesn't appear to be his first language, he can read it perfectly. I'm in the military and needed fast alterations to my dress uniform slacks. We have very specific regulations on what the slacks have to look like so I was nervous trying to find someone that would do them correctly. I showed him the reg, and he did them better than most alteration shops I've been to on military installations, and had them done same day! Yes, Larry was not easy for me to understand, communication probably not his strongest feature. However, he was smiling/pleasant in his demeanor towards me. Larry works out of his home, yet there were a steady stream of customers when I went there. Why? I'm guessing it's because word gets around. As busy as Larry was, he had my jeans hemmed in 20 min, and he did such a good job that they looked as though they had come from the store that way. HORRIBLE.....Larry is horrible. I called twice about cushion covers and he quoted me over the phone. I dropped them off we talked about it and he said they would be done in 2 weeks. I called the day they were to be ready and he never even started the job and said he was not going to do them. When I asked why he didn't call me to tell me that since it had been 14 days he said he was too busy. This guy is a fraud and a liar. I would never take anything to this guy. Who does that and stays in business. He could of called me anytime in the last 14 days. I asked him if I hadn't called him what would of happened and he said nothing. Would not even answer me. I needed these cushions back for my Mom's Mothers Day Brunch. Larry is a very unprofessional and a disrespectful person and I hope you will take your business elsewhere.
